Standard Chartered recruits US summer interns for its Corporate & Investment Banking business in New York, and both of its summer 2027 internship postings are open today (rechecked on its job site on October 25, 2026): the Markets Intern US 2027 and the Transaction Services Internship Programme US 2027. Each is a 10-week program starting in June 2027 for penultimate-year students, and both postings say assessment centres began in October 2026. Sophomores have a separate route: a three-day Spring Insight Programme in New York on February 1 to 3, 2027, with applications closing November 15, 2026. In plain words: you apply during 2026, you intern in summer 2027. The bank doesn't publish internship pay on its own pages, so this guide doesn't quote a figure.

What Is a Standard Chartered Internship?

A Standard Chartered internship in the US is a 10-week summer placement in the bank's Corporate & Investment Banking business in New York, where its Americas operations are headquartered. Two programs are open for summer 2027. Markets has you work across two of Sales, Trading, Structuring, Financing Risk, Research, and a risk-modelling and XVA group. Transaction Services covers Cash Management, Trade, Implementation, Transaction Banking Sales and Digital Channel Solutions. Both postings promise a structured induction, real projects from day one, and support from managers, mentors and buddies. The bank describes itself as a skills-first organisation where "your potential matters more than your background." Its UK, Asia, Africa and Middle East internships follow different calendars and are outside this guide.

When Do Standard Chartered Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?

Standard Chartered opened its US summer 2027 postings early: Transaction Services went up on July 6, 2026 and Markets on August 27, 2026, roughly 11 and 9 months before a June 2027 start. Both show a system end date of December 31, 2026, but they also say assessment centres run "October 2026 onwards," so the practical window is already closing. The sophomore Spring Insight Programme posted on October 16 and closes November 15, 2026. For summer 2028, the bank's global internship page says applications open August to September, and with only one documented US cycle we expect US postings from about July to September 2027 (low to medium confidence).

Summer 2027

Interns start in June for 10 weeks, and the postings tie the program to a full-time start in July 2028. The next cycle, summer 2028 internships, is expected to post around July to September 2027.

How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.

Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open

Neither internship posting states a closing date, but both name assessment centres from October 2026 and were posted in July and August. That points to applications being reviewed as they arrive, although the bank doesn't say so. Treat it as rolling and apply before you feel fully ready. You can only submit one application in any six-month period, so choose Markets or Transaction Services on purpose. Sophomores face the opposite shape: the Insight Programme is a fixed window that closes November 15, 2026, and its posting says strong performers are first in line for the 2028 summer program.

Which Standard Chartered Internship Programs Should You Target?

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

These come straight from the live postings.

• Class year: a penultimate-year student who can intern in June 2027 and start full time in July 2028. In practice that means a junior graduating in 2028.

• Work authorization: the "permanent legal right to work" in the country you apply to. The postings list visa-sponsorship exceptions for the UK and UAE only, so don't expect sponsorship for a US internship.

• Degree: the postings welcome students "from all degree disciplines and backgrounds."

• Sophomores: the Insight Programme takes sophomores from any discipline, with no prior banking or financial services experience required.

• Limit: one application per six-month period.

• GPA: none of the three postings states a minimum.

Do You Need a Finance Major?

No. Both internship postings welcome all degree disciplines, and the Markets posting says that during assessment the bank will "help you explore which of the following areas best match your strengths and interests." What the postings screen for is ownership, critical thinking, fast learning and curiosity about markets and current affairs. A non-finance major should still show evidence of that curiosity.

Could You Get In at Standard Chartered? Compare Your Profile

Based on 543 investment banking summer analysts at top investment banks from the classes of 2025 and 2026 (public LinkedIn profiles, aggregated). Six questions, under a minute.

Question 1 of 6

Which summer are you applying for?

Recruiting timelines differ by class year, so we compare you with the right group.

Question 2 of 6

Which group is your school closest to?

Firms recruit on campus in tiers. We match you against admits from schools like yours.

Question 3 of 6

Is your major finance, economics, accounting or business?

Math and statistics count too. Major is not a hard filter, but it shifts how much your coursework has to prove.

Question 4 of 6

How many internships, externships or research positions have you held so far?

Count anything with a real employer, mentor or principal investigator attached. Retail and food service do not count.

Question 5 of 6

Has any of that experience been finance-related?

Banking, PE or VC, corporate finance, wealth management, equity research, accounting or consulting. Any size of firm counts.

Question 6 of 6

Are you in a finance club, investment fund or case competition team?

Campus clubs are how most admits get their first deal and modelling reps.

What Skills Does Standard Chartered Look For, and How Do You Build Them?

The two internship postings share one skill list. Standard Chartered looks for people who take ownership and show initiative, think critically and solve problems using "logic, analysis and sound judgement," learn quickly, build relationships, and adapt under pressure. The Markets posting adds curiosity about financial markets, current affairs and the forces shaping the global economy, and the Transaction Services posting asks for curiosity about how businesses, markets and economies connect. Neither posting names a software tool.

The closest overlap is the finance work: a finished valuation or deal-screening deliverable gives you something specific to describe when an assessor asks how you think about markets.

What Is the Standard Chartered Application and Interview Process Like?

Standard Chartered doesn't publish a full US interview guide. This is what the postings state:

1. Choose one posting and apply online. Applications go through the bank's job site, and you can submit only one in any six-month period.

2. Complete the assessment. For the Insight Programme, invited applicants complete an online assessment. The internship postings don't describe their first stage.

3. Attend an assessment centre. Both internship postings list assessment centres from October 2026 onwards. The format isn't published.

4. Explore your desk fit. The Markets posting says the assessment helps you explore which areas match your strengths, and you then work across two of them.

5. Start in June 2027. The program runs 10 weeks in New York, office-based, and the postings call it the first step toward a graduate role.

The bank hasn't published interview questions or stage lengths for US interns, so we haven't described any.

What Students on Reddit Say

We found no first-hand Reddit report from a Standard Chartered US internship. Searches returned threads about Kenya, Singapore, the UK and general banking careers, none about the New York program, so we haven't built community cards from them.

How Do You Stand Out for a Standard Chartered Internship?

First, apply while assessment centres are still running. The postings have been live since July and August, and the bank has been assessing since October. Second, choose your desk deliberately. You get one application per six months, and the Markets posting expects you to work across two areas, so say why those suit you. Third, show curiosity you can prove: both postings screen for interest in markets and the economy, so bring a specific view or a finished project, such as a valuation or deal-screening exercise. Standard Chartered doesn't publish class size, applicant counts or a conversion rate, so we won't estimate them.

FAQ

Can I still apply for a summer 2026 Standard Chartered internship?

No. Summer 2026 programs ran June to August 2026 and are over. What's open now are the summer 2027 Markets and Transaction Services internships in New York, plus the sophomore Spring Insight Programme, which closes November 15, 2026. Summer 2028 applications are expected around July to September 2027.

When do Standard Chartered internship applications open for summer 2027?

They're already open. Transaction Services posted on July 6, 2026 and Markets on August 27, 2026, with assessment centres from October 2026. Both show a December 31, 2026 system end date, but apply now. The next cycle, summer 2028, is expected to post around July to September 2027.

Are Standard Chartered internships rolling?

Probably. Neither posting states a closing date apart from a December 31, 2026 system end date, and both say assessment centres run from October 2026. The bank doesn't confirm rolling review, so apply early. The sophomore Insight Programme is different: it has a fixed close on November 15, 2026.

How much does Standard Chartered pay US interns?

Standard Chartered doesn't publish US intern pay on its own pages. The two postings carry no pay line, and the early-careers pages say only "competitive salaries that fully reflect your skills and experience." The sophomore Insight Programme is unpaid, with travel and accommodation reimbursed for students outside the New York area.

Who is eligible for the Standard Chartered US internship?

Penultimate-year students who can intern in June 2027, can start full time in July 2028, and hold the permanent legal right to work in the US. Any degree discipline is welcome. You can submit one application per six-month period. No GPA minimum appears in the postings.

Is there a Standard Chartered program for sophomores?

Yes. The Spring Insight Programme is a three-day, in-person introduction to Corporate & Investment Banking at the New York headquarters on February 1 to 3, 2027. It's for sophomores of any discipline, closes November 15, 2026, and gives strong performers a fast-track opportunity for the 2028 summer program.

Can international students apply for Standard Chartered US internships?

Only with permanent US work authorization. The postings require the permanent legal right to work in the country you apply to, and the visa-sponsorship exceptions they list cover the UK and UAE only. Assume F-1 students on CPT or OPT can't rely on sponsorship for a New York internship.

Do Standard Chartered interns get full-time offers?

The bank doesn't publish a conversion rate. Its postings call the internship the first step toward a graduate role, tie it to a full-time start in July 2028, and its US student page says many interns join as graduates. Treat any percentage you see elsewhere as unverified.

Apply to Markets or Transaction Services now, and sophomores should put November 15 in the calendar. While you wait for an assessment invitation, a remote Externship gives you a finished finance project to discuss.
