SouthState Bank's summer 2027 internship season is half over. Its Commercial Banking Intern requisitions for Atlanta, Charlotte, Columbia, Greenville, Tampa and Waco reached their posting end date on 2 October 2026 and have closed, and Richmond has also come off the board. But 19 summer 2027 roles were still open on 3 October: nine Commercial Banking cities (including Miami, added on 1 October) and ten newer roles in operations, data, digital banking, marketing and quantitative work, most of them remote. SouthState's own page says applications run "August through October". In plain words: you apply during fall 2026, you intern in summer 2027.

SouthState is a regional bank of about $65 billion in assets that merged with Texas-based Independent Financial on 1 January 2025, which is why its intern map now runs from Raleigh and Charleston through Orlando and Miami to Austin, Houston, McKinney and Denver. Its 10-week program targets rising seniors, with a 3.4 GPA preferred.

What Is a SouthState Bank Internship?

A SouthState internship is a paid, 10-week summer program at a Southeast and Texas regional bank. The flagship Commercial Banking Intern Program pairs you with a local mentor in one city and, per the requisitions, has you do market research and financial analysis, prepare financial spreads, run due diligence on borrowers and guarantors and review loan documents. SouthState's early careers page adds instructor-led training, collaborative projects and a chance to meet executives, including the CEO.

For summer 2027 the bank has added functional internships beyond commercial banking: Business Solutions, Core Banking, Digital Banking, Data Analytics, Loan Closing, Loan Operations, Card, Cash and Deposit Operations, IT Business Office, Marketing and Communications, and a Quantitative role. Commercial Banking interns work on site five days a week; most of the newer roles are remote within SouthState's eight-state footprint.

When Do SouthState Bank Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?

SouthState recruits about ten months ahead in a single fall window. The first summer 2027 Commercial Banking requisition was public by 6 August 2026 (a repost of the Austin role), most city reqs went up in late August and early September, and six of them carried a posting end date of 2 October 2026. A second wave of functional internships followed between 23 September and 1 October.

The bank's early careers page sets the outer limit: "Applications are open August through October." Interviews run later; one applicant reported a SouthState commercial banking interview on 1 December 2024, during the summer 2025 cycle.

Applications for summer 2027 are open in part. Commercial Banking closed on 2 October in Atlanta, Charlotte, Columbia, Greenville, Tampa and Waco, and Richmond is gone too. Nine Commercial Banking cities and ten functional internships were still open on 3 October, with the bank's window ending in October.

August to October 2027EXPECTEDSHORT WINDOW — APPLY WEEK 1

Applications for summer 2028 expected, if SouthState repeats its August-through-October window. Some city reqs may close as early as the start of October, as six did in 2026.

How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.

Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open

SouthState runs a short window with city-by-city end dates, not an open-ended rolling program. Six Commercial Banking requisitions carried an end date of 2 October 2026 in SouthState's own Workday records and closed on schedule; the rest print no date but sit inside a window the bank says runs "August through October". Each city is a single requisition, so a market can close while its neighbors stay open.

Rising seniors who wait for the end of October may find their city gone. The safest plan is to apply in the first week a city posts, and for summer 2028 that means watching the board from early August 2027.

Which SouthState Bank Internship Programs Should You Target?

SouthState posted two kinds of summer 2027 internships: one city-based Commercial Banking program and a set of functional roles.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

The summer 2027 postings set these requirements:

• Class year: rising seniors. Commercial Banking reqs say "graduating in 2028"; several newer roles say December 2027 or May 2028.

• GPA: 3.4 preferred on most postings and on the early careers page. It's a preference, not a stated minimum.

• Majors: Business Management, Mathematics, Accounting, Finance or related for Commercial Banking; information systems, analytics, computer science or statistics for the data roles. The Quantitative role prefers master's candidates.

• Skills: proficient in Excel and Word on almost every posting.

• Location: on site in your city for Commercial Banking; remote roles require residence in one of eight footprint states. Sponsorship isn't addressed in the postings.

Is the 3.4 GPA a Hard Cutoff?

No. SouthState writes "3.4 GPA preferred", and one applicant with a 3.3 GPA from a state school reported reaching first and second rounds for a SouthState internship in the 2026 cycle. A GPA under 3.4 means the rest of your application has to carry more weight: accounting or finance coursework, Excel you can show, and a leadership role you can talk about.

What Is the SouthState Bank Application and Interview Process Like?

SouthState doesn't publish its interview steps. From the postings and applicant reports, the path looks like this:

1. Apply per city or role on Workday. Each Commercial Banking city is its own requisition, and so is each functional role.

2. Infoship side door (optional). Infoship completers who meet a posting's requirements get an automatic interview for the summer program.

3. First and second rounds. One 2026-cycle applicant reported first and second rounds; another had a commercial banking interview in early December 2024.

4. Offer. No published timeline. For Commercial Banking, expect your market's team to be involved, since you'd work with its relationship managers.

The fall 2026 Infoship registration closed on 23 September; the next run is the spring semester, February to April 2027, per SouthState's Infoship page.

A banker with ten years' experience said mid-sized banks like South State offer the best of both worlds: more structure than a community bank and a better work-life balance than the largest banks.

How Do You Stand Out at SouthState?

Three moves. First, apply to a city you can commit to: Commercial Banking is five days a week on site, and each market hires for itself. Second, learn to read a simple financial statement. Spreads, borrower due diligence and loan documents are the core duties, and being able to walk through a balance sheet sets you apart from applicants who only list Excel. Third, bring a leadership story, such as a club treasurer role, with numbers attached.

If you're a sophomore or junior who isn't eligible yet, take Infoship in spring 2027. It's the only published route to an automatic interview.

FAQ

Can I still apply for a summer 2026 SouthState Bank internship?

No. Summer 2026 has already run. Summer 2027 is partly open: Commercial Banking closed in Atlanta, Charlotte, Columbia, Greenville, Tampa, Waco and Richmond, but nine other cities and ten functional internships were open on 3 October 2026. SouthState says its window runs through October.

When do SouthState summer 2028 internship applications open?

Expected in August 2027. SouthState's early careers page says applications are open August through October, and the first summer 2027 requisition was public by 6 August 2026. Some cities closed on 2 October this year, so plan to apply in August or September 2027.

Does SouthState review internship applications on a rolling basis?

Not in an open-ended way. Six Commercial Banking requisitions carried a 2 October 2026 end date and closed on it, and the bank's window ends in October. The other postings list no end date, but each city or role is a single requisition that can close at any point.

What GPA do you need for a SouthState internship?

SouthState prefers a 3.4 GPA but doesn't state a minimum. One applicant with a 3.3 reported reaching first and second rounds in the 2026 cycle. Below 3.4, lean on finance or accounting coursework, Excel skills and a leadership role you can explain in detail.

How much do SouthState interns get paid?

The newer summer 2027 roles list $20 an hour, and the Quantitative intern lists $22. For Commercial Banking, the Denver posting gives an annualized range of $34,587 to $51,879, roughly $16.60 to $24.90 an hour by our arithmetic. The other city postings don't print pay.

Are there remote SouthState internships?

Yes. Seven summer 2027 roles are remote, including Data Analytics, Quantitative, Digital Banking, Core Banking, Loan Closing, Business Solutions and Marketing and Communications. They're open to residents of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Texas and Colorado, and run 40 hours a week.

What is the SouthState Infoship program?

It's a free virtual webinar series for students who want to learn about banking before they're eligible for the internship. Completers who meet a posting's requirements get an automatic interview for the summer program. The fall 2026 registration closed on 23 September; the next run is February to April 2027.

Does SouthState hire interns full-time?

SouthState doesn't publish a conversion rate. Its new-graduate Commercial Banking Associate Program asks for prior internship experience and trains associates for six months in Tampa before sending them back to their market. A summer internship is the most direct preparation for it.

SouthState's summer 2027 window closes in October, city by city. Apply first, then finish one project you can walk through in an interview: a remote Externship gives you that, with a real company behind it.
