Roush Industries has two Winter/Spring 2027 engineering internships open right now, and it hasn't posted summer 2027 yet. Roush posts student requisitions for every term (fall, winter/spring and summer) on its own career site. Wayback captures of those postings show the first summer requisition appeared on January 12, 2024, January 6, 2025 and January 12, 2026, so the summer 2027 wave is expected from January 2027. In plain words: for a January to May 2027 internship you apply now, and for summer 2027 you apply in January 2027. Roush calls the roles paid but doesn't publish an hourly rate.

What Is a Roush Internship?
A Roush internship is a paid student placement at Roush Industries, the Livonia, Michigan engineering firm that provides engineering, testing, prototype and manufacturing services to the transportation industry, with support for aerospace, defense and theme park work. Roush says it has over 2,400 employees. The Roush Internship Program hires for fall, winter/spring and summer terms, mostly engineering plus some business roles in past summers. Roush Industries isn't Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing, the NASCAR team. Roush doesn't publish a class size or a conversion rate.

When Do Roush Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
Roush hires in three waves a year, each posted shortly before the term. The Winter/Spring 2027 postings went up on September 15 and 25, 2026, about 3.5 to 4 months before a January start. Summer is the big wave. In 2024, 2025 and 2026 the first summer requisition appeared in January, the bulk followed from February to April, and the last in 2026 was created on May 20, so summer postings run about 1 to 5 months ahead of a May or June start. Fall postings come in July. These dates are requisition creation dates embedded in Roush's career site ids, a lower bound on the public posting date, and the January 2027 window is an expectation, not a confirmed date.
Winter/Spring 2027 applications are open: a Powertrain Calibration Engineering Intern (Livonia and Allen Park) and a Mechanical Engineering Intern (Livonia, Advanced Engineering), both 40 hours a week from January to May 2027. Two Fall 2026 postings also remain listed even though that term has started, so don't treat them as open starts.
Apply this week. No posting states a closing date and Roush takes a requisition down when it's filled. The powertrain posting's body text still says "Summer of 2026" even though its title and availability line say Winter/Spring 2027, so go by the title.
Summer 2027 postings expected to start. The first summer requisition appeared on January 12, 2024, January 6, 2025 and January 12, 2026. Powertrain Calibration has posted earlier: October and December 2023 for summer 2024.
Most summer requisitions were created February to April in earlier years, with a few as late as May. Expect engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, project management and marketing roles, based on past summers.
The summer 2027 internship itself. Roush's 2025 interns presented their projects to supervisors and senior leadership at an event at the SEMA Garage in Plymouth, Michigan. Fall 2027 postings are expected around July 2027 (Roush created fall requisitions on July 1 and 10, 2025).
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
Roush's cycles are short, so the first weeks of each wave matter. Roush posts requisitions one at a time with no closing date, and a requisition disappears when it's filled. In summer 2026 the postings were created across more than four months, from January 12 to May 20, which means the early ones, such as the Mechanical Engineering and Supply Chain roles from mid-January, had the longest time to fill. Set an alert on the career site and the Roush Talent Community now, and apply the week a role in your field appears.
Which Roush Internship Programs Should You Target?
Four postings are live today: two for Winter/Spring 2027 and two for Fall 2026, which has already started. The table also lists the tracks Roush has posted in earlier summers.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
Requirements differ by posting. These come from the four live postings we read on October 26, 2026.
• Class year: minimum freshman for Mechanical Engineering (Spring 2027), minimum sophomore for the powertrain postings, minimum junior for Mechanical Engineering (Fall 2026).
• Major: a bachelor's or master's program in engineering. Powertrain calibration names mechanical, electrical or automotive engineering, and electrified powertrain adds software engineering.
• Work authorization: the Spring 2027 Mechanical Engineering posting says you must be a US citizen or US lawful permanent resident for ITAR compliance. The powertrain postings don't state it, and earlier Defense roles also asked for US citizenship.
• Availability: 40 hours a week, Monday to Friday, for the whole January to May 2027 term, with willingness to travel or work overtime on the powertrain posting.
• Other: a valid driver's license on three postings, and Excel plus MATLAB/Simulink or C on the powertrain postings.

Do You Need Engine Experience for Powertrain Calibration?
For the Winter/Spring 2027 powertrain posting, yes: it lists specific hands-on internal combustion engine experience as a requirement, not a preference. Formula SAE, Baja and engine dynamometer testing are listed as pluses. The Mechanical Engineering postings are more open: they prefer CAD experience and list automotive projects as a plus, and the Spring 2027 posting accepts freshmen. If you have no engine background, the Mechanical Engineering role is the realistic one.
What Skills Does Roush Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
The four live postings share an engineering profile. All four ask for a 40-hour week and three ask for a valid driver's license. Excel and MATLAB or Simulink appear in the powertrain postings, along with the ability to read C-based or controls software and wiring schematics. The Mechanical Engineering postings ask for CAD (SolidWorks, CATIA or NX), proficiency in MS Office and root cause analysis. Formula SAE or Baja experience is a plus in three. High voltage safety and BEV, FCEV and HEV controls come up in the electrified role.
Note: Roush has four live intern postings, which is too few to chart skills honestly.
How Is Demand for Mechanical Engineering Interns Moving Right Now?
Mechanical engineering intern postings · Sep vs Aug 2026
vs 207 in August
For Roush applicants: Roush's own JazzHR board listed 72 open requisitions on October 26, 2026, and 4 of them were internships, with the next summer wave expected in January.
Daily US job-posting counts, Sep 1–30 vs Aug 1–31, 2026. Covers under half of US postings; shows direction, not market size. Pay = median of employer-published ranges only (87 postings in September, 36 in August).
Build These Skills Before You Apply
Each skill in the postings maps to a remote Externship you can finish before the next wave.
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| Test data analysis | Powertrain Calibration: analyze, interpret and present test data | SQL & Database Architecture with Breaking Games |
| Embedded and controls systems | Electrified Powertrain: controller software, CAN protocol, high voltage systems | Hydroficient Advanced: IoT Cyber Defense |
| Manufacturing and supply chain operations | Earlier summer postings: supply chain, manufacturing, quality | Amazon Fulfillment Center Operational Strategy & People Analytics |
| Marketing and sales coordination | Earlier summer postings: Marketing and Sales Coordinator Intern | Health-Ade (Generous Brands) Consumer Behavior & Insights |
The overlap is closest on data analysis and systems. No open Externship teaches CAD, dynamometer testing or engine calibration, so keep your SolidWorks or MATLAB projects for the resume.
What Is the Roush Application and Interview Process Like?
Roush doesn't publish interview steps. This is what the career site and application form show.
1. Find the posting on jobs.roush.com; the apply button opens Roush's JazzHR form.
2. Apply. The form asks for a resume, desired salary, earliest start date and whether you're a current or former Roush employee, and has a cover letter field.
3. Confirm the term from the title and availability line, not the body text.
4. Wait for contact. Roush doesn't publish interview stages, timing or offer dates.
Roush's career site also offers a Talent Community sign-up for alerts.
What We Found on Reddit
Almost nothing we can use. The one readable thread is a 2025 r/Imagineering comment about Roush's entertainment side, and a thread about Detroit summer work wouldn't load for us. We'd rather show no quotes than stretch a comment about one business unit to the whole company.
How Do You Stand Out for a Roush Internship?
First, show hands-on work. The postings ask for engine experience, dynamometer testing, CAD or automotive projects, and they name Formula SAE and Baja, so lead your resume with those. Second, time your application to the wave: for summer, be ready in early January, when the first requisitions have appeared in each of the last three years. Third, check the work authorization line before you apply, since some postings carry ITAR wording. Roush's 2025 class presented projects in powertrain and vehicle development, manufacturing, parts tracking and logistics, marketing and communications, and defense programs, so pick a project you can describe the same way. Roush publishes no class size or conversion rate.

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2026 Roush internship?
No. Roush created its summer 2026 requisitions between January 12 and May 20, 2026, and those postings have closed. Open now are two Winter/Spring 2027 internships for January to May 2027. Summer 2027 requisitions aren't posted yet and are expected from January 2027.
When do Roush summer internship applications open?
Expected in January 2027. In 2024, 2025 and 2026 the first summer requisition appeared on January 12, January 6 and January 12, and most followed from February to April. These are requisition creation dates from Roush's career site, so treat them as a lower bound on the public posting date.
Are Roush internships paid?
Yes, the postings call them paid internships, but Roush doesn't publish an hourly rate in any live posting or in the archived postings we read. The Mechanical Engineering postings list part-time benefits of earned sick time and a 401K. Treat any pay figure on a job-board site as unverified.
Do I need to be a US citizen for a Roush internship?
For some postings. The Spring 2027 Mechanical Engineering internship requires US citizenship or lawful permanent residence for ITAR compliance, and earlier Defense postings asked for US citizens. The powertrain postings we read don't state work authorization, so check each posting before you apply.
Where are Roush internships located?
In Michigan. All four live postings are on site in Livonia and Allen Park, working 40 hours a week. Livonia is Roush's headquarters area. Roush also has facilities in other countries, but every internship we found is in Michigan, so plan to relocate or commute.
Is Roush the same as Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing?
No. This guide covers Roush Industries, the Livonia, Michigan engineering firm. Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing is a separate NASCAR team. Roush Performance, which makes aftermarket parts, is a Roush business and has posted its own intern roles, such as a Mechanical Engineering internship.
What year do I need to be in for a Roush internship?
It depends on the posting. Mechanical Engineering for Spring 2027 asks for minimum freshman standing, the powertrain postings ask for minimum sophomore, and Mechanical Engineering for Fall 2026 asked for minimum junior. Most are for engineering majors working toward a bachelor's or master's degree.
Do Roush interns get full-time offers?
Roush doesn't publish a conversion rate. Its internship page features one former intern who now works at Roush while pursuing a mechanical engineering degree, but that's a single story, not a rate. Ask your recruiter how Roush hires from its intern class.
Apply to the Winter/Spring 2027 postings this week if the term fits, and set your alert for January. While you wait, a remote Externship gives you a finished data or systems project to talk about in the interview.
