Last updated: October 2026

QBE North America's summer 2027 internships are open, but one track has already closed. On October 5, 2026 its careers site listed 14 US intern roles, posted between August 31 and September 22, 2026, in specialty underwriting and claims, data science, machine learning and crop insurance with NAU Country. None states a deadline. The actuarial internship is already gone: its posting has been taken down, and a student reported holding a QBE offer with an October 12 deadline on October 1. In plain words: you apply during fall 2026, you intern in summer 2027.

Every role runs June 1 to August 6, 2027 and lists an hourly rate, from $19.50 for crop roles to $29.50 for data science and machine learning. All 14 postings say the role isn't eligible for visa sponsorship.

What Is a QBE North America Internship?

A QBE North America internship is a 10-week paid summer program at the US division of QBE Insurance Group, the Sydney-based insurer founded in 1886. Interns join one team, such as construction claims, accident and health underwriting, data science or crop underwriting, and get weekly Insurance 101 sessions, group projects and time with leaders, according to QBE's US early careers page. QBE North America wrote $7.3 billion in gross written premium in 2024, per its about page, and its crop business is NAU Country Insurance Company, which posts its internships on QBE's site. The US division is based at 28 Liberty Street in New York.

When Do QBE North America Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?

QBE posted its summer 2027 wave in two bursts: claims, accident and health underwriting, data science and machine learning between August 31 and September 2, 2026, then the NAU Country crop roles and two more underwriting roles between September 17 and 22. That's about nine months before the June 1 start. The actuarial posting went up in the first burst and was gone by early October. Last cycle QBE's summer 2026 roles showed up on job boards in September and October 2025, so this year's wave came at or slightly ahead of last year's. QBE says it recruits on campus from September to November and makes offers by late January. Applications for summer 2028 are expected around late August to September 2027.

How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.

Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open

QBE fills on a rolling basis. None of the 14 open postings names a deadline, and each is a separate role tied to one team and office, so it can come down as soon as the team has its intern. The actuarial internship shows how fast that can happen: it was posted in the first burst at the end of August, and by October 1 a student was holding an offer with an October 12 deadline while the posting itself had already come down. QBE's own calendar says offers arrive by late January, but that's the latest, not the typical, answer. Apply in October.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

QBE's summer 2027 postings set these requirements:

• Enrollment: enrolled in a bachelor's program at a four-year college; data roles want computer science, engineering, math, data science or a related major.

• Crop roles: a bachelor's program in the agricultural industry, and you must return to school after the internship.

• GPA: none of the 14 postings states a GPA.

• Work authorization: every posting says the role isn't eligible for visa sponsorship.

• Availability: June 1 to August 6, 2027, four days a week in the office (crop claims is remote with field travel).

Does QBE Have a GPA Cutoff?

Not a published one. None of QBE's 14 summer 2027 postings names a GPA. They ask instead for leadership shown through activities, community service or work (claims and underwriting roles), working Python (data roles), or agricultural coursework (crop roles). The firm line is visa sponsorship: all 14 postings rule it out, so international students who'd need sponsorship should look elsewhere.

For QBE North America applicants: QBE's summer 2027 actuarial internship is already closed, with offers out by early October. If you're on the actuarial track, aim for the summer 2028 posting around late August 2027, and look at QBE's open data science role in Madison in the meantime.

What Is the QBE North America Application and Interview Process Like?

QBE's US early careers page lays out a simple calendar:

1. Meet QBE on campus. QBE says it visits campuses from September to November.

2. Apply online. Each role is a separate posting on careers.qbe.com; apply to the specific team and office.

3. Assessments and conversations. QBE's hiring page lists online activities and conversations with the team, and says the steps vary by role.

4. Offer. QBE says students hear back about offers by late January, though the actuarial track made offers by early October this cycle.

5. Internship. June 1 to August 6, 2027, four days a week in the office for most roles.

How Do You Stand Out for a QBE North America Internship?

Three moves. First, apply in October. The actuarial track closed within about a month, and the other roles are rolling with no deadline. Second, write to the competency list. Ten postings ask for attention to detail, clear communication, juggling priorities and knowing when to escalate; one short example of each in your resume bullets and interview answers covers most of the screen. Third, match the track. Claims and underwriting roles ask for leadership through activities or work, data roles want Python you can show, and NAU Country crop roles want agricultural coursework and a plan to return to school. QBE publishes no applicant count or conversion rate.

FAQ

Can I still apply for a summer 2026 QBE North America internship?

No. Summer 2026 has already run. The open door is summer 2027: on October 5, 2026 QBE had 14 US intern roles live for June 1 to August 6, 2027, in claims, underwriting, data and crop. The summer 2027 actuarial internship has already closed, so actuarial students should aim for summer 2028.

When do QBE North America summer 2027 applications close?

None of the 14 open postings states a deadline, so each closes when the role is filled. QBE says it recruits on campus through November and makes offers by late January, but the actuarial track had offers out by early October. Apply this month rather than waiting for the campus season to end.

How much do QBE North America interns make?

Every posting lists an hourly rate. Crop roles pay $19.50 to $21.50, specialty claims and underwriting roles $21.50 to $26.50, and the data science and machine learning roles $27.50 to $29.50. Over the 10-week program at full time, that's roughly $7,800 to $11,800 before tax.

Does QBE North America sponsor visas for interns?

No. All 14 summer 2027 US intern postings say the role isn't eligible for visa sponsorship, and QBE's crop and specialty roles use the same line. If you'll need sponsorship now or in the future, check this before applying, and focus on employers whose postings say they sponsor interns.

Is NAU Country part of QBE?

Yes. NAU Country Insurance Company is QBE North America's crop insurance business. Its six summer 2027 internships, four crop underwriting roles plus crop marketing and crop claims, are posted on QBE's careers site and ask for students in an agricultural bachelor's program who will return to school afterward.

Where are QBE North America internships located?

Specialty roles are in New York, Chicago and Marblehead, Massachusetts, and the data roles are in Madison, Wisconsin. NAU Country crop roles sit in Council Bluffs, Topeka, Missoula, Greensboro and Eau Claire. Most are hybrid four days a week; the crop claims role is remote with field travel.

What is the QBE Next Generation Underwriting Program?

It's a paid, full-time early-career program for graduates, not an internship. Associate underwriters rotate across commercial, specialty, reinsurance and claims with a coach, in Atlanta, Chicago, New York or Boston. QBE encourages top interns to apply at the end of senior year.

Does QBE North America hire interns full time?

QBE says it welcomes the chance to discuss full-time roles after graduation with interns who excel, and encourages top interns to apply to its Next Generation programs. It doesn't publish a conversion rate. A former intern on Reddit described the internship as a great experience.

QBE North America's summer 2027 roles are open now, and one track has already closed. Apply this month, and build a project to talk about in parallel: a remote Externship gives you finished analysis work for your interviews.
