Last updated: October 2026
Oppenheimer & Co. doesn't run one internship application. It runs four, on four calendars, and every one it opened for summer 2027 has closed. Investment Banking opened in March 2026 and was closed by April 19. Equity Research closed on May 29, 2026. Business Segments and Corporate Infrastructure closed on September 30, 2026. On October 12, 2026, Oppenheimer's internships page read: "Oppenheimer is no longer accepting applications for the 2027 Summer Internship Program." So this page targets summer 2028. In plain words: you apply during 2027, you intern in summer 2028.
The next door is Investment Banking, expected to open around March 2027, about 15 months before the summer. This guide covers Oppenheimer & Co. Inc., the New York broker-dealer and investment bank owned by Oppenheimer Holdings (NYSE: OPY). It isn't OppenheimerFunds, the mutual fund firm that became part of Invesco in 2019.
What Is an Oppenheimer & Co. Internship?
An Oppenheimer & Co. internship is a paid, eight-to-ten-week summer program at Oppenheimer & Co. Inc., which describes itself as "a leading middle-market investment bank and full service broker-dealer" with roots back to 1881. Interns join one department, from investment banking and equity research to fixed income, wealth management, compliance or operations, and the firm says they get "responsibilities that come with the same expectations as a full-time employee." Its parent, Oppenheimer Holdings, reported record 2025 revenue of $1.6 billion and $143.3 billion in client assets under administration in its 2025 annual report, and its year-end earnings release counts 88 US retail branch offices. Oppenheimer & Co. ranks #31 on Vault's 2026 Most Prestigious Banking Firms list. Don't confuse it with OppenheimerFunds, a separate asset manager that Invesco acquired in 2019.

When Do Oppenheimer & Co. Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
Archived copies of Oppenheimer's internships page, plus its own postings, show a different calendar for each application. Investment Banking for summer 2027 opened in March 2026 and was marked closed by April 19, 2026, about 15 months before the summer. A year earlier it was open in May 2025 for the summer 2026 class, so that window has moved earlier. Equity Research for summer 2027 closed on May 29, 2026, about 12 months ahead. The summer 2026 posting closed on September 8, 2025, so that date moved about 14 weeks in one year, which makes our projection for that track low confidence. Business Segments and Corporate Infrastructure for summer 2027 closed on September 30, 2026, about nine months ahead, and the summer 2026 application was closed by October 5, 2025. The Office of General Counsel said its 2026 applications would open in mid-fall 2025; no 2027 notice is posted.
Every summer 2027 application Oppenheimer opened has closed: Investment Banking (by April 19, 2026), Equity Research (May 29, 2026) and Business Segments and Corporate Infrastructure (September 30, 2026). Applications for summer 2028 aren't open yet, so this window is when you build the proof.
Watch the internships page for an Office of General Counsel notice for summer 2027. Last cycle's notice said applications would open in mid-fall 2025, and none is posted yet. Banking applicants: check the 3.5 GPA line and get your resume and technical prep ready.
Investment Banking applications for summer 2028 are expected to open, about 15 months before the summer. For summer 2027 the page said applications would open in March 2026, and it showed them closed by April 19.
Equity Research applications for summer 2028 are expected around May 2027 (low confidence). Business Segments and Corporate Infrastructure applications for summer 2028 are expected to open in August or September 2027 and close around September 30.
The eight-to-ten-week internship. Oppenheimer doesn't publish a return-offer rate, and its full-time banking analyst recruiting runs as a separate process each August.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
Oppenheimer's applications aren't rolling. Each one is a hard deadline written into the posting. The 2027 Fixed Income posting said the Business Segments and Corporate Infrastructure application "will close on September 30, 2026," and the 2027 Equity Research posting said it "will close on May 29, 2026." The bigger risk is missing a window entirely, because the four calendars are spread across the year and two of them have moved. Banking was open in May 2025 for one class and in March 2026 for the next, and it was closed again by April 19. Equity Research closed about 14 weeks earlier than it had the year before. A student who starts looking in the fall has already missed banking and research. Put all four dates on a calendar and apply in the first week each one opens.
Which Oppenheimer & Co. Internship Programs Should You Target?
Oppenheimer splits its summer program into four separate applications, and a Business Segments and Corporate Infrastructure applicant must name an area of interest.
| Application | Areas | Summer 2028 window (expected) | Requirements |
|---|---|---|---|
| Investment Banking | Advisory and capital markets work for emerging growth and mid-sized businesses | Around March to April 2027 | Entering senior year; 3.5 GPA or higher |
| Equity Research | Company analysis and the research report process | Around May 2027 (low confidence) | 3.5 GPA or higher; the summer 2027 class had to graduate between May 2027 and May 2028 |
| Business Segments | Equities; Fixed Income sales and trading; Wealth Management (Asset Management and Private Client) | August to September 30, 2027 | 3.2 GPA or higher; the summer 2027 class had to graduate between May 2027 and December 2028 |
| Corporate Infrastructure (same application as Business Segments) | Compliance, Finance & Accounting, Human Resources, Internal Audit, Information Technology, Marketing, Operations | August to September 30, 2027 | Same as Business Segments |
| Office of General Counsel | Legal department, "at the crossroads of finance and law" | Around mid-fall 2027 (one data point) | Not published |
The full-time Investment Banking Analyst Program is a graduate job with its own August recruiting process, not an internship. All four internship applications are described on the Oppenheimer internships page.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
Each application sets its own rules, and Oppenheimer hasn't published the summer 2028 versions yet. Last cycle's were:
• Investment Banking: students "entering their senior year" with a 3.5 GPA or higher.
• Equity Research: a 3.5 GPA or higher. The summer 2027 posting wanted graduation dates between May 2027 and May 2028.
• Business Segments and Corporate Infrastructure: a 3.2 GPA or higher. The summer 2027 application took graduation dates from May 2027 to December 2028, which included sophomores.
• Summer 2028: expect each graduation window to move forward one year.
• Other qualities: "contributions to campus or community activities, strong communication and problem-solving skills."
• Work authorization: the postings we read don't state a sponsorship policy, so confirm it with the firm if you need sponsorship.

Is the GPA a Hard Cutoff at Oppenheimer & Co.?
Treat it as one. Oppenheimer writes the number into each application's eligibility text, asking for "an outstanding record of academic achievement of a 3.5 GPA or higher" for banking and research and 3.2 for everything else, and we found no statement about exceptions. The class-year rule matters as much. Banking is for rising seniors only, so sophomores should aim at the Business Segments and Corporate Infrastructure application, whose graduation window is wider. The Office of General Counsel listing gives no degree requirement, so don't assume it's limited to law students.

What Skills Does Oppenheimer & Co. Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
Oppenheimer's intern postings are short on tools and long on fit. The Business Segments and Corporate Infrastructure and Equity Research postings ask for a strong academic record and an interest in financial services or the markets, and the general application adds "strong communication and problem-solving skills." The hard skills show up on the full-time Investment Banking Analyst Program page, which lists "company valuation and financial modeling," comparable companies and precedent transactions, and "proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint." Equity Research interns learn "in-depth company analysis and the processes involved in generating research reports."

For Oppenheimer & Co. applicants: Oppenheimer's job board listed no internship postings on October 12, 2026, and its internships page says the 2027 Summer Internship Program is closed to applications. The next application expected is Investment Banking for summer 2028, around March 2027.

Build These Skills Before You Apply
Each Oppenheimer skill maps to a remote Externship that gives you a finished project to discuss in interviews.
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| Valuation and financial modeling | Analyst program: "company valuation and financial modeling" and "comparable companies, precedent transactions" | Yinan Zhao Investing & Financial Modeling |
| Company and sector analysis | Equity Research: "in-depth company analysis and the processes involved in generating research reports" | HP Tech Ventures Deal Sourcing & Startup Analysis |
| Data analysis | Corporate Infrastructure: Finance & Accounting, Operations and Marketing areas | Breaking Games E-Commerce Data Analysis & Strategy |
| Strategy and structured presentations | Analyst program: "Crafting detailed memos, presentations and pitches" | Lean Startup Co. Corporate Strategy, mentored by Eric Ries |
The modeling match is the closest, since valuation work is what the banking and research applications lead to.
What Is the Oppenheimer & Co. Application and Interview Process Like?
Oppenheimer publishes an interview format only for its full-time banking analyst program. Here's what its pages show:
1. Pick the right application. There are four on the internships page, and the Business Segments and Corporate Infrastructure form asks you to name an area of interest.
2. Apply through the job board. Each application links to a posting on Oppenheimer's hiring site, with the closing date in the text.
3. First round. For full-time analysts, Oppenheimer says first rounds are held remotely, "last about 30 minutes and can include both technical and nontechnical questions." The intern format isn't published.
4. Super Day. For full-time analysts, a small number of candidates are invited on-site for "a series of 30 minute interviews."
5. Offer and placement. Interns spend eight to ten weeks in one department, with firm-wide information sessions and department training.
Older accounts on Wall Street Oasis, community-reported and about eight years old, describe banking final rounds as "usually pretty technical." Our investment banking internships guide covers the technical prep.
What Students on Reddit Say
Reddit has no first-hand account of the Oppenheimer & Co. internship itself. These two threads touch on it.
A sophomore at a target school held an Oppenheimer equities sales and trading internship for sophomore summer and asked whether it would help with junior-year banking recruiting.
Asked to choose between Big 4 M&A and an Oppenheimer banking analyst seat, the top replies picked Oppenheimer. One called it "not a bad shop" and an easier base for moving to a larger bank.
How Do You Stand Out for an Oppenheimer & Co. Internship?
Three moves. First, calendar four dates, not one. For summer 2028, banking is expected around March 2027, Equity Research around May, the general application from August to September 30, and the legal internship in mid-fall. Second, pick the application you qualify for. Banking and research need a 3.5 GPA, and banking takes only rising seniors. The Business Segments and Corporate Infrastructure application needs a 3.2 and has taken sophomores. Name an area of interest you can speak to, since the form asks. Third, bring finished analysis. For research, have a sector and two companies you can discuss in detail. For banking, bring a valuation you built yourself. Oppenheimer publishes no class size, acceptance rate or return-offer rate, and older Wall Street Oasis reports on return offers contradict each other.

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2027 Oppenheimer & Co. internship?
No. As of October 12, 2026, Oppenheimer's page says it's no longer accepting applications for the 2027 Summer Internship Program. Investment Banking closed by April 19, 2026, Equity Research on May 29 and Business Segments and Corporate Infrastructure on September 30. The Office of General Counsel hasn't posted a 2027 notice. The next cycle is summer 2028.
When do Oppenheimer internship applications open for summer 2028?
Expected dates, projected from the last two cycles: Investment Banking around March 2027, Equity Research around May 2027, and Business Segments and Corporate Infrastructure in August or September 2027 with a close near September 30. The Office of General Counsel is expected around mid-fall 2027. Oppenheimer hasn't confirmed any of these dates.
Does Oppenheimer hire interns on a rolling basis?
No. Each application has a closing date written into the posting. For summer 2027, the Business Segments and Corporate Infrastructure application closed on September 30, 2026 and Equity Research closed on May 29, 2026. Banking opened in March 2026 and was closed by April 19, so apply the week each one opens.
How much do Oppenheimer & Co. interns get paid?
The two summer 2027 postings we read list $20 an hour in New York City: the Fixed Income posting under Business Segments and Corporate Infrastructure, and the Equity Research posting, read from a mirror. Oppenheimer hasn't published an Investment Banking intern rate that we could find, and neither posting mentions housing or relocation support.
What GPA do you need for an Oppenheimer internship?
A 3.5 or higher for Investment Banking and Equity Research, and a 3.2 or higher for the Business Segments and Corporate Infrastructure application. Oppenheimer writes these into each application's eligibility text and publishes no exceptions. Banking also requires that you're entering your senior year, so check class year before GPA.
Can sophomores apply for an Oppenheimer internship?
Not to Investment Banking, which is for students entering their senior year. The Business Segments and Corporate Infrastructure application for summer 2027 accepted graduation dates from May 2027 to December 2028, which included sophomores, and a Reddit poster described holding an Oppenheimer equities sales and trading internship for sophomore summer.
Is Oppenheimer & Co. the same as OppenheimerFunds?
No. Oppenheimer & Co. Inc. is the New York broker-dealer and investment bank owned by Oppenheimer Holdings, which trades on the NYSE as OPY. OppenheimerFunds was a separate mutual fund manager that Invesco acquired in 2019. Internship advice or reviews about OppenheimerFunds, including some older Reddit threads, don't describe this program.
Do Oppenheimer interns get full-time offers?
Oppenheimer doesn't publish a return-offer rate. Its full-time Investment Banking Analyst Program recruits through a separate process that begins each August, with remote first rounds of about 30 minutes and an on-site Super Day. Older community reports on Wall Street Oasis disagree about how many banking interns received offers, so we don't print a rate.
Every summer 2027 door at Oppenheimer has closed, and banking for summer 2028 is expected around March 2027. Use the months in between: a remote Externship gives you finished valuation or company analysis work to bring to the next application.
