Octagon, the Stamford-based sports and entertainment marketing agency that represents athletes like Stephen Curry and Simone Biles and works for brands like Mastercard and BMW, doesn't run a classic ten-week US summer internship. Its student program is the Capstone Internship: a paid, roughly three-week immersion that ran from 26 May to 12 June in 2026, ending with a team pitch to Octagon's executive board. The posting goes up in spring and comes down fast; it was pulled on 7 April 2026 and on 28 April 2025. In plain words: you apply around March or April 2027, and you join the Capstone in late May or June 2027. On 3 October 2026 Octagon had no US intern openings, and its only intern listings were in Singapore and Sydney.

Externships are short, remote programs where you finish a real project for a real company, most running 8 weeks at 5–10 hours a week. The Khan Academy Strategic Partnerships & Earned Revenue Externship builds the partnership thinking behind sponsorship work, and the Pinterest Gen Z Consumer Behavior Externship trains the fan and consumer research a Capstone pitch rests on.
What Is an Octagon Internship?
An Octagon internship, in the US, means the Capstone Internship: a short, paid program for aspiring sports and entertainment marketers run by Octagon, the sports, entertainment and experiential marketing arm of Omnicom. Omnicom became the parent when it completed its acquisition of Interpublic on 26 November 2025. The 2026 program had two phases. Some participants first worked one of Octagon's live experiential activations, setting up, troubleshooting and looking after attendees. Then teams ran a thought-leadership project on a trending category or brand, sat in on 101 and case-study sessions with New Business, Client Services, Strategy and Production, and pitched to the executive board. Alumni join a Capstone Legacy LinkedIn group. Octagon calls itself one of the "Best Places to Work in Sports".

When Do Octagon Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
The Capstone is a short-lead, late-window program. Its postings have never been observed opening, only closing: one came down on 28 April 2025 and the next on 7 April 2026, four to seven weeks before a late-May start. A 2025 participant announced accepting her place on 31 May, days before the program began. For summer 2027 we expect the posting around March to April 2027, about one to two months ahead of the start. That's low confidence, and it's the opposite of the fall rush at most companies, so don't spend this fall waiting on an Octagon posting.
Applications aren't open. Octagon's US board showed no intern roles on 3 October 2026, and its other-regions board lists only Singapore and Sydney internships. This window is for building a portfolio piece you can pitch from.
Build a short sponsorship idea deck, get event or hospitality experience, and start checking octagon.com/workday-job weekly from February.
Capstone posting for summer 2027 expected. The last two postings came down on 7 April 2026 and 28 April 2025, so apply the week you see it.
Offers. In 2025 a participant accepted on 31 May, days before the start, so a late answer isn't unusual.
About three weeks in late May and June, remote in the US in recent years, with a possible live activation first and a final pitch to the executive board.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
This is a short window, and it's short in a way that's hard to plan around. Nobody has recorded the day the Capstone posting opens; we only know when it closed, 7 April in 2026 and 28 April in 2025. With a single three-week cohort, the class is small, and the posting comes down once it closes. Missing it means waiting a year. Set a weekly reminder from February 2027, keep your resume and a sample deck ready, and submit the day it appears. Use only Octagon's own job pages: in 2026 scammers impersonated Octagon with chat-only Teams interviews.
Which Octagon Internship Programs Should You Target?
Octagon's US student offering is one program with optional extras; non-US internships run separately.
| Program | Focus | Duration | Key skills |
|---|---|---|---|
| Capstone Internship (US) | Thought-leadership project on a trending category, specialty sessions, pitch to the executive board | ~3 weeks (late May–June) | Research, presentations, teamwork |
| Capstone Activation Experience | Live experiential activation: set-up, troubleshooting, attendee experience | Start of program, if timing allows | Event operations, guest interaction |
| Experiential road-rally add-on (2024 only) | 10 spots on a two-week automotive client tour: parking, registration, merchandise, vendors | 2 weeks (July 2024) | 21+, driver's license, stamina |
| Creative Intern, Singapore | Art or copy for campaigns with Strategy, Account and Production teams | 3 months | Creative ideas, detail, English |
| Sports Consultancy & Data Analyst Intern, Sydney | Sports broadcast and brand-exposure data, fan survey analysis | Course-credit placement | Excel, detail, sport knowledge |
The non-US roles are listed on Octagon's other-regions job page; the Sydney role is unpaid and limited to Australian students. Capstone details come from Octagon's own program text on Built In.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
The Capstone posting is light on formal rules.
• Availability: you must be available for the full internship dates and times (9am to 5pm ET in 2026, varying during events).
• Student status: not stated; the program targets aspiring professionals exploring sports and entertainment careers.
• Location: listed as hiring remotely in the US in 2026; 2025 offered remote or in person in New York. The activation phase can involve travel.
• Age: 21+ applied only to the 2024 in-person road-rally add-on, which also needed a valid driver's license and a clean record.
• GPA and work authorization: neither appears in the postings we read.

Is the GPA a Hard Cutoff?
No GPA appears in any Capstone posting from 2024, 2025 or 2026. The stated requirements are about how you work: team player, detail-oriented, comfortable with high-profile guests, confident verbal communication, and able to handle several tasks at once. A short pitch sample and real event experience say more about those than grades do.
What Skills Does Octagon Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
We read four Octagon intern descriptions: the 2026 and 2024 Capstone texts plus the live Singapore Creative Intern and Sydney Sports Consultancy & Data Analyst Intern postings. Detail, verbal communication, cross-team work, trend research and curiosity each appear in three. The Capstone-only skills are pitching to executives, multitasking and running a live activation. Excel shows up only in the Sydney data role.

How Is Demand for Marketing Interns Moving Right Now?
Marketing intern postings · Sep vs Aug 2026
vs 1,424 in August
Most summer 2027 marketing internships opened in September, months before Octagon's spring window. Apply to a full summer internship now and treat the three-week Capstone as an add-on you can still fit in next May or June.

Build These Skills Before You Apply
Each skill maps to a remote Externship you can finish long before the spring posting.
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| Partnerships & sponsorship thinking | 2026 Capstone: project on a category with "potential opportunities to engage in sports and entertainment partnerships" | Khan Academy Strategic Partnerships & Earned Revenue |
| Fan & consumer research | Singapore Creative Intern: "Hunt down the latest trends"; Sydney: "Analysis and summary of trends in Futures sports fan surveys" | Pinterest Gen Z Consumer Behavior |
| Pitching strategy to executives | 2026 Capstone: "Each team will pitch their project to Octagon's executive board" | Corporate Strategy Externship Mentored by Eric Ries |
| Social and brand storytelling | Capstone teams work with Strategy (Sponsorship, Digital, Creative) | TikTok Social Media Content & Brand Strategy |
Since the Capstone ends in a pitch, a finished deck from an externship is the most direct sample you can bring.
What Is the Octagon Application and Interview Process Like?
Octagon hasn't published its Capstone interview steps, so this is what the postings and past participants show.
1. Watch the right board. US postings appear on octagon.com/workday-job, now served from Omnicom's Workday; the 2025 posting sat on an IPG board instead, so check from February.
2. Apply with a resume. The 2024 form also asked whether you were applying for the in-person experiential add-on.
3. Interview. The format isn't published; prepare to talk about teamwork, events and a brand you'd pitch.
4. Confirm availability. You must be free for every program date; offers have landed as late as the end of May.
5. Check every contact. Octagon's job page warns that it never uses outside recruiters, never asks for fees or equipment purchases, and writes only from @octagon.com addresses.
If a recruiter interviews you only by text chat, stop and report it to Octagon.
What the Community Says
There's little public discussion of the Capstone itself, so these cards mix Reddit and one Glassdoor intern review.
In March 2026 a job seeker described a fake Octagon recruiter who ran a chat-only Teams interview and then asked them to buy equipment. Commenters on a second thread named Octagon as the impersonated agency too.
A former Octagon agency intern says they worked on a NASCAR sponsorship during their internship, and that the relationships they built there paid off later in their sports-business career.
A Capstone intern reviewing in October 2025 gave it 3 out of 5: good for networking and not hard, but remote, and a full-time job isn't guaranteed at the end.
How Do You Stand Out for the Octagon Capstone?
Three moves. First, arrive pitch-ready. The program ends with your team presenting to Octagon's executive board, so a two-page sponsorship idea for a real brand shows you can already do the final task. Second, show you can work an event. The activation phase wants people who can set up, troubleshoot and keep attendees happy, so list any event, hospitality or game-day work. Third, know Octagon's world. Its talent side represents athletes like Curry and Biles, and its brand side has worked with Mastercard, BMW and AB InBev; reference one partnership you'd change and why. Octagon doesn't publish applicant counts or a conversion rate, but one 2023 Capstone intern became an Account Trainee and later a Senior Account Executive.

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2026 Octagon internship?
No. The 2026 Capstone ran from 26 May to 12 June 2026, and its posting came down on 7 April 2026. Nothing is open in the US now. The summer 2027 Capstone is expected to post around March to April 2027, so check octagon.com/workday-job weekly from February 2027.
When do Octagon internship applications open for summer 2027?
Octagon hasn't announced the 2027 Capstone. Based on the last two years, applications for summer 2027 are expected around March to April 2027; the 2026 posting came down on 7 April and the 2025 posting on 28 April. Opening dates were never recorded, so treat any spring posting as urgent.
What is the Octagon Capstone Internship?
It's a roughly three-week program, 26 May to 12 June in 2026, where participants may first staff a live experiential activation, then research a trending category or brand in teams and pitch it to Octagon's executive board. Sessions with New Business, Client Services, Strategy and Production run throughout.
Is the Octagon internship paid?
Yes. Octagon's 2024 program text describes the Capstone as a paid internship, but no posting from 2024, 2025 or 2026 publishes the rate. Its Sydney internship, by contrast, is unpaid and limited to Australian course-credit students, so check which program a listing belongs to before you apply.
Is the Octagon Capstone remote?
Mostly. The 2024 and 2026 postings listed it as remote in the US, and 2025 offered remote or in person in New York. The activation phase can require travel, and the 2024 road-rally add-on was fully in person. Expect a 9am to 5pm Eastern schedule that shifts during events.
Who owns Octagon now?
Omnicom. It completed its acquisition of Interpublic, Octagon's parent since 1997, on 26 November 2025. Octagon's own postings now call it the sports, entertainment and experiential marketing arm of the Omnicom Group, and its US openings run through Omnicom's Workday system on octagon.com/workday-job.
Does Octagon hire Capstone interns full-time?
There's no published conversion rate, and a 2025 Capstone reviewer noted full-time jobs aren't guaranteed. At least one 2023 Capstone intern became an Account Trainee, then an Account Executive and Senior Account Executive. The 2024 program also paired the winning team with Octagon mentors for long-term guidance.
How do I avoid Octagon job scams?
Apply only through octagon.com's job pages. Octagon says it doesn't use outside recruitment agencies, never asks for fees, equipment purchases or banking details, and writes only from @octagon.com addresses. A 2026 scam used chat-only Teams interviews; stop engaging and report anything similar to Octagon.
The Capstone posts in spring and lasts three weeks, so you have months to prepare. Use them on a remote Externship and bring a finished pitch to the application.
