Last updated: October 2026
Nutrien's US student board is mostly one role in many towns, and it runs on three clocks at once. On October 25, 2026, Nutrien's careers site listed 37 US student-titled requisitions: 23 internships for a roughly 12-week summer 2027 program, mostly Retail Field, Agronomy roles at Nutrien Ag Solutions locations; five engineering co-ops at the Aurora, North Carolina phosphate site starting January 11 or June 7, 2027; and a handful of other student postings. Every one says it "will remain posted until filled". In plain words, you apply during 2026 to intern in summer 2027, but the nearest door is the Aurora co-op starting January 11, about two and a half months away. Ten of the retail postings publish pay ranges from $15.00 to $21.71.

Externships are short, remote programs where you finish a real project for a real company, most commonly over 8 weeks at 5 to 10 hours a week, short enough to finish before a January co-op. The Amazon Fulfillment Center Operational Strategy & People Analytics Externship builds the supply and order analysis Nutrien's sales and logistics roles describe, and the ARCeH Data Analytics Externship gives you practice turning field-style data into findings. What Is a Nutrien Internship?
A Nutrien internship is a paid US internship or co-op at Nutrien, the Canada-headquartered crop inputs and services company. In the US it means three things: summer internships at Nutrien Ag Solutions, its ag retail network, where interns do tissue sampling, soil sampling and sales or operations tasks; engineering co-ops at the Aurora, North Carolina phosphate site; and corporate internships in Dyersville, Iowa and Deerfield, Illinois. Nutrien's postings describe nearly 26,000 employees and Nutrien Ag Solutions at more than 2,000 locations in North America, South America and Australia. There's no single application: each location posts its own role. Nutrien's Canadian co-ops and internships are outside this guide.

When Do Nutrien Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
Nutrien runs three student cohorts, and its site shows no posting dates, so we can't measure a lead time. What the postings do give are term dates and a recruiting season. The Aurora co-ops list Spring 2027 (January 11 to July 16) and Fall 2027 (June 7 to December 17) terms, and the retail internships say they last about 12 weeks. An open Students and New Grad posting says the recruiting team reviews its talent pipeline "throughout the Fall hiring season for our upcoming 2027 starts". Pick the cohort you can actually start, and read the term line first.
37 US student-titled postings are live, including 23 summer 2027 internships and 5 Aurora co-ops. All say they stay posted until filled. Four retail postings still carry August 2026 graduation-date text from last cycle, so confirm the term before you apply.
Fall hiring season. Nutrien says its recruiters review the student talent pipeline through the fall for 2027 starts. Some postings say pre-screen interviews may be transcribed, and AI tools may summarize the transcript but won't be used to make hiring decisions.
The Spring 2027 co-op term begins at Aurora, North Carolina (January 11 to July 16). It's the nearest start date for any Nutrien student role.
Summer internships run approximately 12 weeks at Nutrien Ag Solutions locations, per the retail postings and the open Students and New Grad posting, which lists May to August terms.
The Fall 2027 co-op term at Aurora. Nutrien publishes no summer 2028 dates yet, so don't wait for a seasonal reminder.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
Nutrien's own text is the best evidence of urgency: every US student posting we checked says "This job will remain posted until filled", so each location can close the day it picks someone. There are a lot of postings, but each is a single seat in one town or division, and the retail ones have no posting date to tell you how long they've been up. Four retail postings still show last cycle's August 2026 graduation line, a sign that some postings are never refreshed, so a live posting isn't proof of a live seat. Apply to the location nearest you now, and ask the recruiter whether the seat is still open.
Which Nutrien Internship Programs Should You Target?
These are the four groups of US student postings live on October 25, 2026.
| Track | Focus | Term and pay | Key skills |
|---|---|---|---|
| Retail Field and Pipeline Intern (21 postings) | Agronomy and operations at a Nutrien Ag Solutions retail location: tissue sampling, soil sampling, sales and related tasks | About 12 weeks, summer 2027; $15.00 to $21.71 on 10 postings, none on the rest | Agronomy, crop scouting, customer service, safety |
| Corporate interns (Dyersville, IA; Deerfield, IL) | Strategic Accounts and Proprietary Products in Dyersville; Sales in Deerfield (order entry, ERP master data, supply and demand analysis) | Summer 2027 (Dyersville); Deerfield $34,865 to $53,588 | Sales, ERP data, Excel, analysis |
| Aurora, NC engineering co-ops (5 postings) | Chemical, Electrical/Instrumentation, Mechanical, Mine and Process Safety engineering at the phosphate site: scopes, cost estimates, process troubleshooting | 6 months: Jan 11 to Jul 16 or Jun 7 to Dec 17, 2027; hourly, with $23.62 to $27.09 on Process Safety | Engineering fundamentals, Microsoft Office, safety awareness |
| Students and New Grad open postings (Trades, Engineering) | Talent-pipeline postings for intern, co-op and summer student roles for 2027 starts, including Borger TX, Geismar LA, Lima OH and White Springs FL | Summer (May to August) or 4 to 6 month co-ops; no pay stated | Varies by site |
Open the student category page, then read each posting's term and graduation-date line. The Aurora co-op postings are the clearest example of a posting with exact dates.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
Nutrien sets eligibility by posting.
• Retail Field and Pipeline interns: currently enrolled in a 2- or 4-year program in agriculture or a related field with an interest in agriculture, and a graduation date of August 2027 or later.
• Aurora co-ops: currently enrolled, with at least one year of an undergraduate engineering degree completed, and returning to full-time studies after the work term.
• Work authorization: the Aurora postings require US work authorization without sponsorship. The retail postings don't say.
• Safety and physical requirements: Aurora co-ops must work at heights, outdoors and around chemicals, and in confined spaces.
• Other: all postings mention a background check and possibly a substance test. No GPA floor is stated.

Do Postings That Still Say August 2026 Count?
Probably not for you, if you graduate in 2027 or later. Four retail postings (the Southeast Division in Georgia, the Carolinas Division in North Carolina, and Auburn and Blissfield in Michigan) still require a graduation date of August 2026 or later. That wording looks left over from last cycle, but Nutrien doesn't say so. Email the recruiter before applying, and apply to the 23 postings that say August 2027 first.
What Skills Does Nutrien Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
Nutrien's retail postings share one template: sampling, sales and learning how an ag retail location runs, with interest in agriculture as the main requirement. The skill signals sit in the other postings. Aurora co-ops ask for Microsoft Office, safety behavior, teamwork and communication, and the Process Safety co-op adds hazard reviews. The Deerfield sales internship centers on ERP master data, order-to-cash activity and analyzing supply and demand scenarios. The Dyersville Proprietary Products internship adds field trials, product demonstrations and a capstone project.
Note: Most of the 23 summer 2027 postings use one shared template, so counting skills across them would measure the template, not the market. We haven't charted skills for Nutrien.

Build These Skills Before You Apply
Each row maps a skill from Nutrien's live postings to a remote Externship that produces a finished project.
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| Field data and sampling analysis | Intern - Retail Field, Agronomy: "direct responsibility relating to tissue sampling, soil sampling, sales" | ARCeH Data Analytics, Health Outcomes |
| Supply and demand analysis | Summer Intern, Sales (Deerfield): "Analyze global supply and demand scenarios for specific products" | Amazon Fulfillment Center Operational Strategy & People Analytics |
| Customer insight and sales | Retail Field Intern: sales and operations tasks at an ag retail location; Proprietary Products interns call on current customers and prospects | Health-Ade (Generous Brands) Consumer Behavior & Insights |
| Cost estimates and financial analysis | Aurora Mechanical Engineering co-op: "Preparation of engineering scope of work and cost estimates" | Attronica Financial Planning & Analysis and Private Company Valuation |
None of these Externships is affiliated with Nutrien. Most run about 8 weeks, so one started in November can finish before the Aurora co-op term begins on January 11.
What Is the Nutrien Application and Interview Process Like?
Nutrien states its process in each posting.
1. Find a location. On the student category page, filter to the United States and open the posting nearest you; each division is a separate requisition.
2. Apply and resume review. The postings list the order as Application, Resume Review, Pre-screen or Interview, Offer, Pre-Employment Conditions, then Welcome to Nutrien.
3. Pre-screen. Some postings say pre-screen interviews may be transcribed and that AI tools may summarize the transcript but won't be used to make or influence hiring decisions.
4. Pre-employment conditions. You'll need a background check, and possibly a substance test.
What Students Say
We found no first-hand Reddit posts about a US Nutrien internship. The results we saw were about Canadian or Australian programs or weren't about internships, so we haven't used them.
How Do You Stand Out for a Nutrien Internship?
First, apply to the location where you can actually work, since each posting is a single seat in one town or division. Second, show real exposure to agriculture: a farm job, a 4-H or FFA project, an agronomy course or lab work. For the corporate and Aurora roles, bring the tools they name, such as Excel and ERP data work or Microsoft Office with safety awareness. Third, check the term line and the graduation-date line before you apply. Nutrien doesn't publish applicant counts or an intern-to-full-time rate.

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2026 Nutrien internship?
No. Summer 2026 is over. Four retail postings still carry August 2026 graduation-date text, which looks like leftover wording, so confirm with a recruiter before applying. The live opportunities are 23 summer 2027 internships and the Aurora co-ops starting January 11 or June 7, 2027.
When do Nutrien summer 2027 internship applications open?
They're already open. Nutrien's US summer 2027 internship postings were live on October 25, 2026, and each says it will remain posted until filled. The careers site shows no posting dates, so we can't say when they opened or when the next cycle starts.
How much do Nutrien interns make?
Ten retail internship postings publish ranges from $15.00 to $21.71, and only the Central Illinois posting says per hour. The Aurora Process Safety co-op lists $23.62 to $27.09 an hour, and the Deerfield sales internship lists $34,865 to $53,588. Most other postings state no pay.
How long is a Nutrien internship?
Summer internships last approximately 12 weeks, according to the retail postings. Aurora, North Carolina engineering co-ops last six months, with a Spring 2027 term from January 11 to July 16 and a Fall 2027 term from June 7 to December 17, and Nutrien says dates can be adjusted to school terms.
Who can apply to Nutrien internships?
Retail Field and Pipeline internships are for students in a 2- or 4-year agriculture or related program who graduate in August 2027 or later. Aurora co-ops need at least one year of an engineering degree completed. Corporate postings list their own majors, including agriculture, business, logistics and economics.
Does Nutrien sponsor visas for interns?
The Aurora co-op postings say applicants must be legally authorized to work in the US without sponsorship. The retail and corporate postings we read don't mention sponsorship, which isn't the same as a yes. International students should ask a recruiter before applying to any US posting.
Does Nutrien offer co-ops as well as internships?
Yes. Five Aurora, North Carolina engineering co-ops cover chemical, electrical and instrumentation, mechanical, mine and process safety engineering. Nutrien's open Students and New Grad postings also list co-op terms at Augusta, Georgia and Lima, Ohio. Co-ops are hourly paid, temporary and full-time.
Do Nutrien interns get retirement benefits?
No. The Deerfield posting says student and intern roles don't participate in any retirement savings or incentive programs. It does list insurance coverage for positions of at least three months and more than 30 hours a week, plus paid sick days and holidays and an employee assistance program.
Nutrien's US student roles are open now and say they stay posted until filled. Apply this month to the location nearest you, and if you want a finished project to discuss, a remote Externship can wrap up before a January co-op.
