The key detail most applicants miss: the window is about two weeks long. Last cycle the posting went up around mid-September and closed September 30, so your resume needs to be finished before September starts, not after.

Past rotations include Finance, Marketing & Sales and Football Operations, so the strongest applications show business work you've actually finished. A remote Externship like the Attronica Financial Planning & Analysis and Private Company Valuation Externship gives you a finance project for your resume well before the September 2027 window.

What Is the NFL Rotational Program?

The NFL Rotational Program is a full-time, two-year entry-level program at the NFL. Participants complete up to four rotations, each in a different department, working on project-based assignments. Past departments include Communications & Public Affairs, Events Strategy, Finance, Football Operations, International, Marketing & Sales, Broadcasting, Labor Operations and Media. Rotations can sit in the New York League Office, NFL Media in California, NFL Government Affairs in Washington, DC, or NFL Films in New Jersey, and everyone starts in July in New York. Participants work 40 hours a week and take part in league events and networking along the way.

Who Is the NFL Rotational Program For?

The program hires graduating seniors. Based on the 2027 posting, you need:

• Class year: senior year, including a fifth consecutive year. For the 2027 program that meant graduating between Winter 2026 and Spring 2027, so expect Winter 2027 to Spring 2028 for the 2028 program

• GPA: 3.0 overall or above

• Work authorization: legally permitted to work in the US. International students must have their visas and US employment authorization before the program starts

• Relocation: willing to move to any NFL league office for a rotation

• Experience: strong internship or prior work experience, plus advanced Microsoft Office skills

• Start: available to start in July in the New York League Office

If you're a junior this year and graduate by spring 2028, the 2028 program is the one to plan for. Underclassmen should look at the NFL Summer Internship Program instead.

When Does the NFL Rotational Program Open for 2028?

The NFL says applications are posted in September of each year, and the last two programs both closed on September 30: in 2025 for the 2026 class, and in 2026 for the 2027 class. So the 2028 window is expected to open in September 2027 and close around September 30, 2027. The exact posting date isn't published, and the NFL hasn't published its interview timeline either.

How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and the employer's own postings. Treat future dates as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The program's official page is always the most current source. If it's posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.

How Do You Apply to the NFL Rotational Program?

The NFL posts one job listing for the program each September:

1. Check the NFL early career programs page and the NFL's Greenhouse job board from the start of September 2027.

2. Apply to the 2028 NFL Rotational Program posting while it's open. Last cycle, that was about two weeks.

3. Submit a fully completed application with an updated resume. The NFL says it only considers complete applications.

4. Be ready to confirm your GPA, your graduation date and your willingness to relocate to any league office.

The NFL doesn't publish its interview steps or assessments, so keep an eye on your email after the close and keep some flexibility in your fall schedule.

What Happens After the NFL Rotational Program?

The program is a two-year job, and what comes after it isn't set. The NFL's posting says continued employment past the scheduled end date isn't guaranteed. It says participants may go on to internal NFL roles, NFL clubs or partners, further education, or roles outside the league. Two years across up to four departments gives you a wide view of how the league runs, which helps on any of those paths. For the NFL's summer internships, see our NFL internship guide.

How Do You Build a Strong NFL Rotational Program Application?

The posting asks for strong internship or prior work experience and a 3.0 GPA, so your resume carries most of the weight. With about two weeks to apply, build these three things well before September 2027.

FAQ

When does the NFL Rotational Program open for 2028?

Applications for the 2028 program are expected in September 2027. The NFL says it posts the program in September each year, and the last two cycles closed September 30, so expect a deadline around September 30, 2027. The 2027 program already closed on September 30, 2026.

How much does the NFL Rotational Program pay?

$72,000 a year. That was the posted salary on both the 2026 and 2027 program postings. It's a full-time job at 40 hours a week, and you start in July in New York, so plan your budget around New York costs for at least the start of the program.

What GPA do you need for the NFL Rotational Program?

An overall GPA of 3.0 or above. The 2027 posting also asked for senior standing, including fifth-year seniors, strong internship or work experience, and advanced Microsoft Office skills. Only fully completed applications with an updated resume are considered. The 2028 requirements haven't been posted yet, so confirm them in September 2027.

Can international students apply to the NFL Rotational Program?

Yes, if you'll have US work authorization in place. The posting says you must be legally permitted to work in the US, and international students must have their visas and US employment authorization before the program starts. It doesn't say the NFL sponsors visas, so check before you apply.

Do you have to relocate for the NFL Rotational Program?

Yes. You start in July in the New York League Office, and the posting requires you to be willing to relocate to any NFL league office for a rotation. Those include NFL Media in California, NFL Government Affairs in Washington, DC, and NFL Films in New Jersey.

Does the NFL Rotational Program lead to a permanent job?

Not automatically. The NFL says continued employment beyond the scheduled end date isn't guaranteed. Participants may move into internal NFL roles, NFL clubs or partners, further education, or jobs outside the league. The two years give you the experience and contacts to compete for those roles.

Can juniors apply to the NFL Rotational Program?

Not to a current posting. The program hires seniors who graduate before the July start. If you're a junior now and graduate by spring 2028, you're expected to be eligible for the 2028 program when it posts in September 2027. Underclassmen should look at the NFL Summer Internship Program.

With about two weeks to apply each September, the real work happens before the posting goes up. If your resume needs a finance or marketing project, a remote Externship gives you one to discuss long before the September 2027 window.
