The Islanders run their student program under one name, IslesU, and it follows two calendars. The summer cohort runs from mid-June to the first week of August and has been posted in mid-December both times we could date it: 16 December 2022 for summer 2023, and 12 December 2025 for summer 2026. The season-long roles for the new hockey season post much later, between late June and late August. Here's the cycle in plain words: you apply in December 2026 or January 2027, and you intern in summer 2027. On 17 October 2026 no internship was open, so you're early, not late. If you wait for spring, the summer cohort will already be closed.

Islanders interns are asked for demo reels, portfolios and Excel-based tracking, so a finished project helps. Externships are short, remote programs where you complete a real project for a real company, most commonly over 8 weeks. What Is a New York Islanders Internship?

A New York Islanders internship is a student role with the NHL club, based at its Floral Park, New York offices and at UBS Arena in Elmont. The club's student program is called IslesU, which its postings describe as an experience in the sports and entertainment industry for current and postgrad students. The summer cohort runs from mid-June to the first week of August, and summer interns complete a Keystone Project, a business project on a real scenario. The club also hires season-long interns for production, design and partnerships, who work around home games. The Islanders post everything on their TeamWork Online board; the NHL league office has its own, separate program.

When Do New York Islanders Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?

The Islanders run two clocks under one program name. The summer IslesU cohort posts in mid-December: 16 December 2022 for summer 2023, closing 9 February 2023, and 12 December 2025 for summer 2026, closing 9 January 2026, about six months before the mid-June start. The season-long roles post late and fast: 2024, 2025 and 2026 each had postings between late June and late August, several closing within two weeks. We found only two dated summer cycles, so the December expectation is a moderate-confidence projection.

~Mid-December 2026 to early February 2027EXPECTEDSHORT WINDOW — APPLY WEEK 1

Applications for summer 2027 IslesU are expected to post around mid-December 2026 and close between early January and early February 2027. Last cycle's main posting ran 12 December to 9 January, and a Motion Design role posted a month later. Apply in the first week.

Mid-June to early August 2027EXPECTED

Summer 2027 IslesU is expected to run from mid-June to the first week of August, as it did for summer 2026. Interns work within their department and finish a Keystone Project.

~Late June to August 2027EXPECTEDSHORT WINDOW — APPLY WEEK 1

Applications for 2027-28 season-long roles are expected to post between late June and late August 2027, with windows from under two to five weeks. Check the board weekly from late June.

How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.

Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open

This is a short-window employer with published close dates, not a rolling one. The summer 2026 posting ran 12 December to 9 January, the Motion Design add-on ran 14 January to 6 February, and the fall Finance role in 2025 was open from 7 to 19 August, only 12 days. Nothing we read promises late applications will be considered. The summer window also lands over winter break, when it's easy to put an application off. Have your résumé and any reel ready by early December so you can apply the week the summer posting goes up.

Which New York Islanders Internship Programs Should You Target?

These are the internships the Islanders posted for 2026-27 and for summer 2026. Which departments appear changes by year, so treat this as the range, not a guarantee.

Find every role on the Islanders TeamWork board. Part-time retail, visual merchandising and game-day jobs on the same board are jobs, not internships.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

Eligibility depends on the posting:

• Summer IslesU: received or working toward a bachelor's degree, per the summer 2026 posting.

• Production Associate (2026-27): currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from, an accredited program in communications, event production, broadcast journalism, television or theater production.

• Finance (fall 2025): enrolled or a recent graduate in accounting, finance or analytics.

• Partnership Management (2026-27): proficiency in PowerPoint, Word and Excel, prior internship experience preferred, and reliable transportation to events.

• Hours: evenings, weekends and holidays are part of event work.

• Credit, GPA and work authorization: not stated on the postings we read.

Do You Need to Be a Current Student?

Not always. The summer posting accepts students who have received or are working toward a bachelor's degree, and the production and finance roles accept recent graduates. That means a senior can apply for summer 2027 and a new graduate can still qualify for some roles. Check each posting's wording, because it changes by department.

What Skills Do the New York Islanders Look For, and How Do You Build Them?

The Islanders' postings are role-specific, so the skills are too. Creative roles ask for proof: Motion Design wanted Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro, Illustrator and Photoshop with a demo reel or portfolio, and called Cinema 4D a major plus. Production Associate asked for professional video cameras and non-linear editing. Partnership Management asked for PowerPoint, Word and Excel. Every posting we read also listed flexibility, collaboration and accountability, and event roles expect evenings and weekends.

Note: No skills chart on this page: the Islanders had no internship open on 17 October 2026, and we could read only five closed postings, which is too few to chart. The skills above are quoted from those postings.

For creative roles, an Externship deliverable can sit in your portfolio next to your own video or design work, which is what the Islanders' creative postings ask to see.

What Is the New York Islanders Application and Interview Process Like?

The Islanders don't publish an interview format. This is what the postings show:

1. Watch the board. Every Islanders internship is posted on TeamWork Online. NHL.com has no club careers page.

2. Pick the department. The club posts separate roles, not one pool, and which departments appear changes by year.

3. Attach your work. Motion Design asked for a demo reel or portfolio, so have creative work ready before you apply.

4. Complete the application. Summer postings tell applicants to finish the application on the follow-up screen after clicking apply.

5. Interview. Stages aren't published. Summer interns finish with a Keystone Project, a business project on a real scenario.

What Students on Reddit Say

We found no first-hand Reddit threads about the Islanders internship. The only matches were automated reposts of job ads with no comments, so there are no community cards on this page.

How Do You Stand Out for an Islanders Internship?

Three moves. First, know which calendar you're on. Summer IslesU posts in mid-December and closes within about four to eight weeks, while season-long roles post between late June and August and can close in under two weeks. Second, apply to the department with proof in hand: a reel for Motion Design, a portfolio for Graphic Design, an Excel tracker for Partnership Management. Third, plan the logistics. Event roles run evenings, weekends and holidays, the office is in Floral Park, games are at UBS Arena in Elmont, and the Partnership Management posting asked for reliable transportation to events. The Islanders don't publish a class size or conversion rate, so treat the internship as the goal and ask about next steps once you're in.

FAQ

Can I still apply for a summer 2026 New York Islanders internship?

No. The summer 2026 IslesU posting closed on 9 January 2026, and no Islanders internship was open on 17 October 2026. The next summer cohort is expected to post around mid-December 2026, based on postings dated 16 December 2022 and 12 December 2025.

When does the Islanders summer internship (IslesU) open?

Both dated cycles posted in mid-December: 16 December 2022 for summer 2023 and 12 December 2025 for summer 2026. Expect summer 2027 around mid-December 2026, closing between early January and early February 2027. That's a projection from two cycles, not an announcement.

Are any Islanders internships open right now?

No. On 17 October 2026 the Islanders' TeamWork board listed four jobs, all in retail, and no internships. The 2026-27 season-long internships in production, graphic design and partnership management closed between 12 and 26 August 2026. The next internships are expected from mid-December 2026, when the summer IslesU cohort posts.

Are Islanders internships paid?

Posted pay varied by role. The summer 2026 Motion Design internship paid $17.00 an hour, and the 2026-27 Graphic Design internship paid $20.00 to $25.00 an hour at 30 hours a week. Other postings we read state no pay figure, so ask at the interview.

When do the season-long Islanders internships post?

Late June to late August. The 2024, 2025 and 2026 postings we dated all fell in that stretch, and windows were short: the fall 2025 Finance role was open 12 days. Expect 2027-28 roles from late June 2027 and check the board weekly.

How long is IslesU?

The summer IslesU cohort runs from mid-June to the first week of August, per the summer 2026 posting, with occasional hours at the Floral Park office and at events. Season-long internships follow the hockey season, at about 30 to 35 hours a week on the 2026-27 postings.

Do I need to be a current student for an Islanders internship?

Not always. The summer IslesU posting accepts students who have received or are working toward a bachelor's degree, and production and finance postings accepted recent graduates. Credit, GPA and work authorization weren't stated on the postings we read, so check each posting when it opens.

Where do I apply for an Islanders internship?

On the Islanders' TeamWork Online board. NHL.com has no club careers or internships page, so every internship is posted there. Part-time retail, merchandising and game-day jobs sit on the same board but are jobs, not internships. The NHL league office runs a separate program.

The Islanders' summer window is expected in mid-December, so the best use of the fall is a finished project and a portfolio. A remote Externship takes about 5 to 10 hours a week and gives you something real to show.
