Nelnet has 13 internship requisitions open right now. They went up on Nelnet's own Workday board between September 28 and October 21, 2026, for spring, May and summer 2027 starts, and the ones that state pay run from $15 to $25 an hour. Nelnet says it filled 81 internship roles in 2025. The nearest start is spring 2027, so you don't need to wait a year: you apply during 2026 and you can start as soon as spring 2027, or in May or summer 2027 for the later cohorts. No requisition lists a closing date.
What Is a Nelnet Internship?
A Nelnet internship is a paid, part-time student placement at Nelnet, the Lincoln, Nebraska education finance and technology company. Nelnet describes itself as a Fortune 1000 finance and technology company and also a student loan servicer. It offers six internship tracks: Traditional (accounting, marketing, finance and more), IT, Catalyst, Pathway, Legal and AI Cohort. Interns work at least 15 daytime core hours a week around classes. Nelnet says it filled 81 internship roles in 2025 and doesn't publish an overall conversion rate.
When Do Nelnet Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
Nelnet doesn't run one application season. It posts requisitions one at a time for several starts, so the nearest open door depends on your term. The requisitions went up between September 28 and October 21, 2026: spring 2027 starts about 3 to 4 months ahead, a May 2027 start about 7 months ahead, and summer 2027 starts about 7 to 8 months ahead. The Pathway program, an academic-year rotation that begins in August, runs its own window. Its last documented dates were mid-February to early March, with interviews in mid-March and offers in late March, from an archived Nelnet page. Nelnet has since merged that page into its internships page, so the mid-February 2027 window is expected, not confirmed.
Applications are open. Thirteen internship requisitions were live on Nelnet's Workday board on October 26, 2026: spring 2027, May 2027, summer 2027 and the Catalyst program.
Apply this week for a spring 2027 start. Those postings went up September 28 and October 9, and no requisition lists a closing date, so a posting can leave the board when Nelnet fills it. The Marketing Communications role asks for a cover letter and two or more work samples.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

• Degree: pursuing a degree in a field that fits the role. Finance and accounting postings ask for accounting or finance; the Investments internship adds economics; software postings ask for an IT-related field.
