Last updated: October 2026

Mowery & Schoenfeld's internship postings are still up, but its main interview round is almost over. On October 12, 2026, the firm's Campus Recruiting page linked three live internship postings: a Summer 2027 Dual Intern, a Summer 2027 Tax Intern and a Spring 2028 Tax Intern. The firm says applications begin in late August, interviews happen at Talent Days in September, and offers typically go out in October. So a reader arriving now is late for the main round, not locked out.

In plain words: you apply in late August to October 2026 and intern in summer 2027. The spring busy-season tax internship works a full year further out, so the same fall 2026 window fills the class that starts in January 2028. The summer 2027 postings list $25 to $30 an hour.

What Is a Mowery & Schoenfeld Internship?

A Mowery & Schoenfeld internship is a paid, on-site position at Mowery & Schoenfeld, LLC, a CPA and advisory firm founded in 1996 and headquartered in Lincolnshire, Illinois, north of Chicago. Interns work in tax, in audit and assurance, or in the firm's signature dual internship, which splits a summer between both. The firm has more than 200 employees and reports $48 million in annual revenue. INSIDE Public Accounting ranked it #129 on its 2026 Top 200 Firms list. Vault ranks the program #21 on its 2026 Best Accounting Internships list, and lists the intern class at 10 to 20 students. The firm says interns "do similar work to first-year associates" and are paired with a mentor and a buddy. Summer interns work a four-day week, Monday to Thursday.

When Do Mowery & Schoenfeld Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?

Mowery & Schoenfeld states its calendar on its internships page: "The application process begins in late August, with Talent Days in September and offers typically sent in October. Summer interns start the following June. Spring interns start working with us in January a full year later." That gives two lead times from one fall window. The summer 2027 internship starts about nine to ten months after applications open. The spring 2028 tax internship starts about 16 months after. Outside the fall round, the firm says offer decisions are made promptly after individual interviews. Applications for summer 2028 are expected to open in late August 2027, projected from that stated yearly pattern.

Late August to September 2026

Applications for summer 2027 and for the spring 2028 tax internship opened. The firm's 2026 calendar lists 11 campus events between September 3 and 30, and it holds its Talent Day interviews in September.

The Summer 2027 Dual, Summer 2027 Tax and Spring 2028 Tax postings are all still live. Offers from the main round typically go out this month, and later applicants are interviewed one by one. Campus events remain on October 20 and 29 (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign) and November 11 (University of Illinois Chicago, online).

November 2026 to May 2027

Selection for the May 2027 job shadow (freshmen and sophomores) starts in November 2026, and confirmed attendees get details in April. The job shadow is a one-day visit, not an internship.

Early June to early August 2027

The summer 2027 internship runs Monday to Thursday at 32 hours a week. The two-day College Leadership Program follows in the second week of August at the Chicago office.

Late August 2027 to January 2028EXPECTEDROLLING — APPLY WEEK 1

Applications for summer 2028 are expected to open in late August 2027, with Talent Days in September and offers in October. The spring 2028 tax interns hired this fall start in early January 2028.

How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.

Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open

Mowery & Schoenfeld's hiring is rolling, but it runs on a fall calendar. No posting shows a deadline, and the firm's Vault entry says "Applications are accepted on a rolling basis." The firm's own page adds the part that matters for timing: Talent Days in September and offers typically sent in October. Vault lists the class at 10 to 20 interns, so most seats are decided in that one round. For this cycle, that round is ending now. Students who apply after it get individual interviews for whatever seats are left. For summer 2028, plan to apply in the last week of August 2027, before the September campus fairs, so you're in the Talent Day group.

Which Mowery & Schoenfeld Internship Programs Should You Target?

Three internships are posted today. The firm's internships page describes four types in total, and two programs for younger students sit outside them.

Two programs for younger students are separate from the internships: a one-day job shadow each May for freshmen and sophomores, and a two-day College Leadership Program in August for accounting majors who've finished sophomore year with a 3.3 GPA or above. Both are linked from the Campus Recruiting page.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

All three internship postings carry the same requirements:

• Degree: "Currently enrolled in an accounting Bachelor's or Master's degree program".

• GPA: "3.0 GPA minimum".

• Class year: "Junior standing and above preferred". The internships page describes the typical intern as a junior or senior.

• CPA track: "Anticipate CPA or CPA-eligible upon graduation".

• Location: on-site. The application asks whether you can commute daily to Lincolnshire or downtown Chicago, and adds that housing "may be available as needed".

• Work authorization: the application asks whether you'll need visa sponsorship now or later, including OPT and CPT. Vault's profile lists international students as not eligible. The postings don't state a policy.

Is the 3.0 GPA a Hard Cutoff at Mowery & Schoenfeld?

It reads like one. The postings say "3.0 GPA minimum", a requirement, while class year is only "preferred". We found no statement from the firm about exceptions, so if you're below 3.0, ask the recruiting team before you spend time on the application. The College Leadership Program sets a higher bar of 3.3. Two location details are worth checking early. The dual internship is in Lincolnshire only, a north suburb, and the housing note gives no amount or terms. The tax postings show a third location that isn't named in the application, so we'd treat Lincolnshire and Chicago as the confirmed offices.

What Skills Does Mowery & Schoenfeld Look For, and How Do You Build Them?

The three postings are short on tools and long on traits. Each one asks for an accounting degree in progress, a 3.0 GPA and a CPA plan, then describes who does well: people who "take initiative without waiting to be asked", "communicate clearly and confidently" and "care about the details and the bigger picture". The firm's internships page names teamwork, communication, adaptability and "a strong service mindset". No posting names tax or audit software. Interns surveyed by Vault describe the actual work: employee benefit plan audits, individual and business returns, and for client advisory work, QuickBooks and Excel.

Build These Skills Before You Apply

The postings name traits more than tools, so this table uses the work interns describe. Each row maps to a remote Externship that gives you a finished project to discuss.

Skill (from real JDs)JD evidenceExternship that builds it
Financial statements and month-end closeIntern account on Vault: "help prepare a month-end close, pull certain reports for clients"Yinan Zhao Investing & Financial Modeling
Excel and transaction dataIntern account on Vault: "code bank transactions on QuickBooks" and use Excel to explain client financialsBreaking Games E-Commerce Data Analysis & Strategy
Document handling and evidenceDual posting: "both assurance and tax training"; interns describe audit testing of payroll, distributions and loansPfizer Advanced: AI-Powered Document Insights & Data Extraction
Transaction advisory exposureDual posting: "other topics of interest including Wealth Management, Transaction Advisory, or Client Advisory Services, as available"HP Tech Ventures Deal Sourcing & Startup Analysis

The first two rows matter most for a dual intern, because the audit half and the client advisory work both start from reading a client's books.

What Is the Mowery & Schoenfeld Application and Interview Process Like?

The firm describes its process on the internships page, and interns surveyed by Vault fill in the interview detail:

1. Meet the firm on campus. The application asks which career fair or campus event you met the firm at. Its 2026 calendar lists 15 events at schools including Loyola, DePaul, Notre Dame, Marquette and the University of Illinois.

2. Apply through the Campus Recruiting page. Pick the Dual, Summer Tax or Spring Tax posting and answer the questions on commuting, sponsorship and referrals.

3. Talent Day interviews. Selected candidates are invited to the office on pre-scheduled Talent Days in September.

4. Offer. Offers from the fall round are typically sent in October.

5. Outside the fall round. The firm interviews candidates individually and says decisions are made promptly afterward.

Interns report two interview rounds, sometimes on Zoom, with no technical questions. Our behavioral interview guide covers the fit questions that format relies on.

What the Community Says

Reddit has little on this firm's internship, so most of these cards come from Vault's 2026 intern survey, with one older Reddit comment.

A dual intern spent the first half of the summer on audit work, mostly employee benefit plan audits covering payroll, distributions and loans, and the second half preparing returns for individuals, companies, gifts and trusts. Hours were 9 to 5, Monday to Thursday, with Fridays off.

One intern interviewed on Zoom over two rounds and said neither was hard and neither had technical questions. Another said the firm reimbursed gas for the interview and train tickets into Chicago.

Some interns said there wasn't much work at times and they filled gaps with training binders. Dual interns noted they saw each side for less than a month. Views on pay ranged from very generous to decent but not the highest in accounting.

A commenter who interviewed with the firm while finishing undergrad wasn't selected but still recommended it. They said the firm reimbursed students from their school for the drive of several hours and that they'd have accepted an offer.

How Do You Stand Out for a Mowery & Schoenfeld Internship?

Three moves. First, get into the fall round. Talent Days are in September and offers go out in October, so the strongest position is an application filed in late August and a conversation at a campus fair. If you're reading this in October, apply now and go to one of the remaining campus events. Second, choose the track on purpose. Pick the dual internship in Lincolnshire if you're undecided between tax and audit, and the tax internship if you want depth or the Chicago office. Third, treat spring as a separate decision. The January 2028 busy-season class is hired this fall, not next. On outcomes, the firm says that in 2025 "nearly 75% of interns accepted full-time roles". That counts acceptances, and the firm doesn't say how many interns it was measured against. It publishes no applicant count.

FAQ

Can I still apply for a summer 2027 Mowery & Schoenfeld internship?

Yes, as of October 12, 2026. The Summer 2027 Dual Intern and Summer 2027 Tax Intern postings were both live on the firm's Campus Recruiting page. The main round is ending, though: the firm holds Talent Days in September and typically sends offers in October, so later applicants get individual interviews for the remaining seats.

When do Mowery & Schoenfeld internship applications open for summer 2028?

Applications for summer 2028 are expected to open in late August 2027. That follows the firm's stated yearly pattern: applications begin in late August, Talent Days are in September and offers typically go out in October, about nine to ten months before a June start. Spring 2029 tax recruiting is expected to share that window.

Is there a deadline for the Mowery & Schoenfeld internship?

No deadline is published. None of the three postings shows a closing date, and the firm told Vault applications are accepted on a rolling basis. In practice most seats are decided at September Talent Days, with offers in October. After that, the firm interviews candidates one at a time and decides promptly.

How much do Mowery & Schoenfeld interns get paid?

Both summer 2027 postings list $25 to $30 an hour. The spring 2028 tax posting shows $25 to $30 in its header and $25 to $35 in its body, and the firm's internship FAQ also says $25 to $35 an hour. The application mentions that housing may be available as needed, without giving terms.

What is the Mowery & Schoenfeld dual internship?

It's a summer-only internship in Lincolnshire that splits your time between the tax team and the audit and assurance team. The posting says interns may also spend time on wealth management, transaction advisory or client advisory services, as available. Interns surveyed by Vault describe roughly half the summer on each side.

What GPA do you need for a Mowery & Schoenfeld internship?

A 3.0 minimum. All three internship postings say "3.0 GPA minimum" and ask for enrollment in an accounting bachelor's or master's program, with junior standing and above preferred. You should also expect to be CPA-eligible when you graduate. The separate College Leadership Program for rising juniors asks for a 3.3.

When should I apply for a spring busy-season tax internship at Mowery & Schoenfeld?

More than a year ahead. The firm hires its January 2028 spring tax class in fall 2026, and the Spring 2028 Tax Intern posting is live now. Spring interns work early January to mid-March or mid-April, Monday to Friday, 40 hours a week, and the firm says dates can be adjusted to your school schedule.

Do Mowery & Schoenfeld interns get full-time offers?

The firm says that in 2025 nearly 75% of interns accepted full-time roles, and that most of its entry-level hires are former interns. That figure counts acceptances, not offers, and the firm doesn't give the base it was measured against. Fall 2027 associate roles in assurance, tax and client advisory are posted now.

Mowery & Schoenfeld's summer 2027 and spring 2028 postings are live while its fall round wraps up, so apply this week. For an individual interview, a remote Externship gives you a finished financial modeling or data project to talk through.
