Last updated: October 2026

Keiter has two internship postings open right now, and both are for spring. On October 12, 2026, the firm's job board listed a Spring 2027 Tax Intern and a Spring 2027 Audit Intern, both in Glen Allen, Virginia, both posted July 31, 2026, and both with an anticipated hiring range of $30.00 to $32.50. The firm's calendar says spring candidates hear back in early November, so this window is in its last weeks.

Summer is less clear. Keiter's website still has a page for a Summer Intern 2027 role, but the application link on it leads to a posting that's no longer on the job board. We go by the job board: as of October 12, you can't apply for summer 2027 there. In plain words, Keiter recruits its spring and summer interns together, starting in late summer of the year before. For summer 2028, plan to apply in August 2027.

What Is a Keiter Internship?

A Keiter internship is a paid tax or audit role at Keiter, a CPA firm in Glen Allen, Virginia, just outside Richmond, where students do work the postings call "typical of a first-year associate." Spring interns work part-time from January to April in either tax or audit. Summer interns rotate through both. Every intern gets a Performance Coach and a Buddy. Keiter has served the Richmond area since 1978 and was named the 132nd largest US accounting firm by INSIDE Public Accounting in 2026.

Keiter is ranked #17 on the Vault Accounting 25 (2027 edition). Vault's 2026 internship rankings placed the Keiter Internship Program #5 among accounting internships, and its program profile lists a class of 21 to 50 interns. The firm says the program also made the WayUp and Yello Top 100 Internship Programs list in 2025 for the second year running.

When Do Keiter Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?

Keiter publishes its recruiting calendar on its student page. For both programs, applications open in "Late Summer" of the year before. The spring 2027 tax and audit postings went up on July 31, 2026, about 5 months before the January 2027 start. Spring interviews run August to September and selected candidates are notified in early November. For summer, interviews run August to January and candidates are notified in early January. The firm's Summer Intern 2027 page was last updated on August 27, 2026, which would put that posting about 9 to 10 months ahead of a summer start. On October 12 its application link no longer led to a live posting. The two externships follow their own calendar: the winter application posts in October and the summer one in February.

Now · October 2026YOU ARE HERESHORT WINDOW — APPLY WEEK 1

Applications for spring 2027 (January to April) are open in tax and in audit. The summer 2027 posting isn't on the job board, although the firm's own page for that role is still up. The Winter Externship application for January 2027 is due to post in October and wasn't on the board on October 12.

Apply for spring first if you qualify. Alongside it, an Extern Externship (a remote project program, not Keiter's on-site externship) gives you finished work to talk about: try the Breaking Games E-Commerce Data Analysis & Strategy Externship or the Yinan Zhao Investing & Financial Modeling Externship.

Selected spring 2027 candidates are notified, according to the firm's calendar. Winter Externship screenings and invitations for the January 2027 session also go out in November.

January to April 2027

The spring 2027 internship runs through tax season, at 20 hours a week or more around your classes. The Winter Externship takes place in early January. The firm's calendar also puts summer 2027 decisions in early January.

Summer 2027

The summer 2027 internship runs Monday to Thursday with rotations through audit and tax. The Summer Externship for rising sophomores and juniors takes place in August 2027; its application posts in February 2027.

Late July to August 2027EXPECTEDSHORT WINDOW — APPLY WEEK 1

Applications for spring 2028 and summer 2028 are expected to open, based on the July 31, 2026 posting date and the firm's "Late Summer" calendar. Spring interviews follow within weeks, in August and September 2027.

How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.

Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open

Keiter's window is short even though no posting prints a deadline. The firm's own calendar is the evidence. Spring applications open in late summer, spring interviews take place in August and September, and offers go out in early November. That's about three months from posting to decisions, with most interviews done in the first two. A student who finds the spring posting in October is applying after the main interview period.

Summer shows the same thing from the other side. The firm's calendar says summer interviews run until January, yet the summer 2027 posting was already off the job board on October 12, 2026. We don't know why. It may be full, paused, or due to be reposted. If you want summer 2027, email the campus recruiter listed on the student page and ask. For 2028, apply in the week the postings appear, which was the last day of July this year.

Which Keiter Internship Programs Should You Target?

Keiter runs two internships and, separately, short externships for younger students. The table shows which is which.

Keiter's externships are multi-day programs at its office, which isn't the same as the multi-week remote Externships run by Extern. Returning summer interns may specialize in tax or audit. Program details are on the Keiter Internships & Externships page.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

The two spring 2027 postings and the summer 2027 page list the same requirements:

• Coursework: "Completion of at least one semester of an intermediate-level accounting class." This is the one firm requirement.

• Major: pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in accounting or accounting systems is preferred, not required.

• Skills: strong written and oral communication, and proficiency with Excel and Word.

• Intent: an interest in a public accounting career and in sitting for the CPA exam.

• Work authorization: candidates must be authorized to work in the United States throughout their employment. The postings don't mention sponsorship.

• Externships: open to rising sophomores and juniors, so you can apply before you've taken intermediate accounting.

Is There a GPA Cutoff at Keiter?

The postings don't state one. Vault's profile of the program lists a minimum GPA band of 3.00 to 3.49, so treat 3.0 as the practical floor, but know it comes from Vault and not from Keiter's postings. Vault also says applicants submit a transcript with the resume. The requirement Keiter does print is coursework: one semester of intermediate accounting, finished before you apply.

What Skills Does Keiter Look For, and How Do You Build Them?

Keiter's postings are unusually specific about tools. Tax interns prepare "Forms 1040, 1065, 1120, 1120S, 1041, and gift tax returns" in CCH Axcess and SurePrep, and reconcile K-1s and trial balances. Audit interns run participant and contribution testing on 401(k) plans, plus cash, payroll and investment testing, in CaseWare and XCM. All three texts list the same core skills to build: Excel data cleanup, analysis and review, self-review, and responding to review notes. Summer interns do both sides, with a training week before each rotation.

Build These Skills Before You Apply

Each skill in Keiter's postings maps to a remote Extern Externship that leaves you with a finished project.

The Excel row matters most: it's among the core skills in every Keiter text, and it's one you can show before you've taken a tax course.

What Is the Keiter Application and Interview Process Like?

Keiter's student page gives the calendar, and Vault's profile of the program describes the steps:

1. Apply on the job board. Vault says the application is a resume and a transcript. Postings appear in late summer for the following spring and summer.

2. Meet the firm on campus. The calendar lists campus recruiting events in September and October. Keiter keeps school pages for Christopher Newport, James Madison, the University of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth, Virginia Tech and William & Mary.

3. Recruiter screen. Vault describes a first screen with a Campus Recruiter.

4. Second-round interview. Vault says this is with a member of the Recruiting Committee.

5. Decision. Early November for spring and early January for summer, per the firm's calendar.

6. Training. Spring interns start with a week of formal in-person training; summer interns train before each rotation.

Interns told Vault they were asked why they wanted Keiter, where they see themselves in five years, and when they plan to take the CPA exam. Our behavioral interview guide helps with the first two.

What Interns Say on Vault

Reddit has no usable thread on Keiter internships, so these come from intern reviews on Vault's profile of the program.

A tax intern described pulling returns from a shared pool and preparing them: individual, partnership, corporate and trust returns, plus personal property tax returns.

How Do You Stand Out for a Keiter Internship?

Three moves. First, apply when the postings appear. This year that was July 31, and spring interviews ran in August and September. Sign up for the firm's student newsletter so you hear when it visits your campus. Second, have your CPA answer ready. The postings ask for interest in sitting for the exam, and interns report being asked for their timeframe. Keiter's student page says it considers candidates with 120 credit hours and supports them in reaching 150, so explain your plan. Third, say whether you can be in the office. In-person work is strongly encouraged for first-time interns, and interns report being asked about it.

Keiter doesn't publish an applicant count or a conversion rate. Vault lists the class at 21 to 50 interns. If you're a rising sophomore or junior, the firm's multi-day externship is the earlier way in.

What Other Companies Should You Consider?

FAQ

Can I still apply for a summer 2027 Keiter internship?

Not through the job board as of October 12, 2026. Keiter's website still has a Summer Intern 2027 page, but its application link leads to a posting that's no longer listed. Email the campus recruiter to ask whether it will reopen. Spring 2027 tax and audit internships are open now, and summer 2028 should open around August 2027.

When do Keiter internship applications open?

In late summer of the year before, for both programs. Keiter posted its spring 2027 tax and audit internships on July 31, 2026, and its student page says applications for the following summer open in late summer too. Expect spring 2028 and summer 2028 postings in late July or August 2027.

Does Keiter have an application deadline?

No date is printed on the postings, but the calendar works like one. Keiter's student page says spring candidates are notified in early November and summer candidates in early January, with spring interviews in August and September. Apply in the first weeks after posting, since later applicants reach a process that's mostly finished.

How much do Keiter interns make?

Keiter lists an anticipated hiring range of $30.00 to $32.50 on both spring 2027 postings and on its Summer Intern 2027 page, depending on experience, qualifications and skills. The range is printed without a unit and reads as an hourly rate. The postings also mention paid opportunities to help you reach your CPA exam goals.

What are the requirements for a Keiter internship?

You need at least one semester of an intermediate-level accounting class. The postings also ask for strong communication, Excel and Word skills, and an interest in public accounting and the CPA exam. An accounting or accounting systems major is preferred. No GPA is stated, though Vault lists a minimum band of 3.00 to 3.49.

Is the Keiter internship full-time?

It depends on the season. Spring interns work at least 20 hours a week from January to April, in blocks of three to four hours scheduled around classes. Summer interns work Monday to Thursday with Fridays off. In-person, hybrid and remote options exist, and in-person work is strongly encouraged for first-time interns.

What is the Keiter externship?

It's a multi-day program at Keiter's office for rising sophomores and juniors, with workshops, case studies, shadowing and networking. The winter session is in early January and the summer session in August; applications post in October and February. It isn't the same as an Extern Externship, which is a remote, multi-week project program run by Extern.

Do Keiter interns get full-time offers?

Keiter doesn't publish a conversion rate. Its postings say interns do projects typical of a first-year associate, and a firm blog post says former interns have gone on to become partners. Returning summer interns may specialize in tax or audit. Ask about return offers and the 150-credit-hour path during your interview.

Keiter's spring 2027 postings are open and decisions come in early November, so apply now if you qualify. To build a project before the next window, try a remote Externship from Extern, which is a multi-week project program and not Keiter's on-site externship.
