INSIGHT doesn't expect finance experience, but your resume still has to show you like hard quantitative problems. If yours is thin, a remote Externship like the Breaking Games E-Commerce Data Analysis & Strategy Externship gives you a real data project to list, though with a deadline of October 25 you should submit first and keep building after.
What Is Jane Street INSIGHT?
INSIGHT is Jane Street's program for women, transgender and gender-expansive students to learn how the firm uses math and computer science in trading. You pick one of three tracks. Trading and Research covers classroom lectures on probability, market structure and arbitrage, plus group games, mock trading and exposure to machine learning and modeling. Software Engineering pairs you with full-time developers for talks and hands-on work on programming fundamentals, software design and development practices. Strategy and Product tours groups such as treasury, compliance, operations and the trading desks, with case studies and problem-solving exercises. Jane Street describes the program as a chance to learn more about what it does.

Who Can Apply to Jane Street INSIGHT?
Jane Street publishes only a few eligibility rules for INSIGHT:
• Identity: the program invites self-identifying women, transgender and gender-expansive individuals
• Finance background: not required; the program page says it doesn't require prior knowledge of finance
• Location: apply only to the location nearest you, so US students apply to New York
• Availability: the NYC form asks you to confirm you're available January 4 to 9, 2027
• Degree level: the form accepts undergraduate, master's, PhD and other degree levels; Jane Street doesn't list eligible class years
• GPA, major and work authorization: not published
If you're a first-year undergraduate, Jane Street also runs FTTP, its First-year Trading and Technology Program, with a later deadline. It's a separate application.
When Is the Jane Street INSIGHT Deadline for January 2027?
These dates are published, not projected. Applications for the January 2027 NYC program close Sunday, October 25, 2026, at 11:59 PM ET, and the program runs January 4 to 9, 2027. Jane Street didn't publish an open date, and the page was already accepting applications when we checked it on October 16, 2026. It also doesn't publish when decisions go out or whether there's an interview step.
Applications for the January 2027 NYC program are open. Update your resume, export it as a PDF and pick your track today.
NYC deadline at 11:59 PM ET for the January 2027 program.
INSIGHT runs at Jane Street's New York office. Travel, meals and housing are covered.
Deadline for FTTP, Jane Street's separate program for first-year undergraduates (NYC, March 21 to 25, 2027). Worth a look if you miss INSIGHT and you're a first-year.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and the employer's own postings. Treat future dates as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The program's official page is always the most current source. If it's posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
How Do You Apply to Jane Street INSIGHT?
You apply on Jane Street's own form, not through a job board:
1. Open the INSIGHT page and choose New York if you're in the US. Jane Street asks you to apply only to the location nearest you.
2. Pick one track: Software Engineering, Trading and Research, or Strategy and Product.
3. Fill in your school, degree level, major, high school graduation year and expected full-time start date, and confirm you're available January 4 to 9, 2027.
4. Upload your resume as a PDF. A cover letter isn't needed, but you can add a short note on why you're interested.
5. Submit before 11:59 PM ET on Sunday, October 25, 2026.
Jane Street doesn't publish what happens after you apply, such as an assessment or interview. Use the optional note: two or three specific sentences on why the track you picked interests you are enough.
Does Jane Street INSIGHT Lead to an Internship?
Jane Street doesn't say it does. It describes INSIGHT as a chance to learn more about what the firm does, and it publishes no guaranteed interview, fast track or offer. What you get is a week inside the New York office, time with traders and developers, and a much clearer sense of whether you'd want to apply for an internship there. Jane Street's internships are a separate application; see our Jane Street internship guide for that timeline.
How Do You Build a Strong Jane Street INSIGHT Application?
With a resume, a track choice and an optional note, the application is short. The resume carries most of the weight, so it should show three things, matched to the track you pick.
| What to show | Why it matters here | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| Comfort with numbers and data | Trading and Research starts with probability and market structure; hands-on analysis shows you'll keep up | Breaking Games E-Commerce Data Analysis & Strategy |
| Code you've built and shipped | The Software Engineering track works with full-time developers on design and development practice | Wayfair n8n AI Agent Engineering |
| Structured business problem-solving | Strategy and Product is built on case studies across treasury, compliance and operations; this is finance analysis, not trading | Attronica Financial Planning & Analysis and Valuation |
Don't wait to finish a new project before applying. The October 25 deadline comes first; submit with what you have and keep building for the internship cycle.

Is Jane Street INSIGHT paid?
It isn't a paid role, but it's free to attend. Jane Street covers travel, meals, housing and social events, plus a set daily amount for other program-related expenses. Jane Street doesn't publish a stipend figure, so don't plan around one.
Who is eligible for Jane Street INSIGHT?
Self-identifying women, transgender and gender-expansive individuals, and you don't need any prior knowledge of finance. Jane Street doesn't publish eligible class years, a GPA minimum, required majors or work-authorization rules. The NYC form accepts degree levels from undergraduate to PhD, and you must be available for the full January 4 to 9 program.
Which INSIGHT track should you pick?
Pick the one closest to the work you'd want as an intern. Trading and Research covers probability, market structure and mock trading. Software Engineering works with developers on design and development practice. Strategy and Product tours groups like treasury, compliance and operations through case studies. Does Jane Street INSIGHT lead to an internship offer?
Not by any published rule. Jane Street describes INSIGHT as a chance to learn more about what it does and doesn't promise an interview, fast track or offer. Internships are a separate application. The program does give you direct exposure to the people and work you'd be applying to join.
Do you need a cover letter for INSIGHT?
No. Jane Street says a cover letter isn't needed. You upload your resume as a PDF and can add an optional note on why you're interested. Use it: a few specific sentences tied to your track give reviewers more than your resume alone.
What if you miss the October 25 deadline?
The NYC program won't take late applications, and Jane Street asks you not to apply to a farther location instead. If you're a first-year undergraduate, look at FTTP, which runs in NYC March 21 to 25, 2027, with a January 31, 2027 deadline. Otherwise, watch the INSIGHT page for the next cycle.
October 25 is close, so apply first and polish later. Once you've submitted, a remote Externship gives you a finished data or engineering project to talk about in January and to list on your internship applications.
