Health Care Service Corporation, the Chicago mutual that runs Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Illinois, Texas, Montana, New Mexico and Oklahoma, posted 12 "Early Careers" intern roles between September 23 and October 2, 2026 on its Workday job board, and all 12 were still live on October 5. In plain words: you apply during 2026, you intern in summer 2027.

Most roles are in IT, cybersecurity and business analysis, plus two actuarial tracks. They're paid, with posted ranges of $19.13 to $34.17 an hour for most roles, run 10 weeks (5 for the sophomore-level actuarial track) and sit in Chicago, Downers Grove or Richardson, Texas, on a hybrid schedule. What Is an HCSC Internship?

An HCSC internship is a paid, 10-week summer program in Health Care Service Corporation's Early Careers program, with a formal orientation, a real hands-on project, weekly networking with interns and company leaders, professional development workshops, volunteer activities and a final presentation to department leadership. HCSC calls itself the largest mutual health insurer in the United States, with 27.3 million members and more than 34,000 employees, according to its 2025 company fact sheet. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois, Texas, Montana, New Mexico and Oklahoma are its divisions, not separate employers, so every intern role is on HCSC's one job board. Its careers site says the goal is for interns to become full-time colleagues and that its CEO joined as an intern.

When Do HCSC Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?

HCSC posted its summer 2027 wave between September 23 and October 2, 2026, about eight to eight and a half months before the expected June 2027 start. Last cycle opened at least as early: a summer 2026 sustainability intern posting had already come down by September 30, 2025, and the rest followed by mid-November. Late adds do happen (a cybersecurity intern posting ran December 10, 2025 to January 4, 2026), so keep checking through winter, but don't plan around one. Applications for summer 2028 are expected around late September to early October 2027.

Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open

HCSC's window is short. No posting states a deadline, but its job board sets end dates: the IT QA and Technology Delivery Analyst postings are scheduled to come down on October 9, only 10 days after they went up, and five more come down by October 30. Last cycle followed the same shape. Which HCSC Internship Programs Should You Target?

HCSC runs one Early Careers internship program but posts each function as its own role, and some functions appear twice by location. Here are the 12 summer 2027 postings, grouped.

Apply on the HCSC Workday board. Past cycles also had sustainability, analytics, accounting, audit and operations intern roles, so more may post later. HCSC's PGY1 pharmacy residency is a postgraduate program for PharmD graduates, not a student internship.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

HCSC lists the same requirements on almost every posting:

• Class year: rising seniors with a graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028 on 10 roles; rising juniors graduating December 2028 to June 2029 for the Actuarial Associate track; master's students for the Security Program Management Senior Intern.

• GPA: a minimum cumulative 3.0 on all 12 postings.

• Majors: IT, information systems, computer science or cybersecurity for tech roles; business, data analytics or IT for business analyst roles; actuarial science, math, statistics, finance, computer science or economics for actuarial. Other majors may be considered.

• Work authorization: "unrestricted authorization to work in the United States; sponsorship is not available" on all 12.

• Actuarial exam: the Actuarial Intern asks you to have passed, or plan to pass, one Society of Actuaries exam by graduation.

Is the 3.0 GPA a Hard Cutoff at HCSC?

Treat it as one. HCSC lists the 3.0 under "Requirements You Must Meet," not under preferred qualifications, and no posting mentions exceptions. The graduation window is just as firm: most roles only take students who finish between December 2027 and June 2028, so sophomores have exactly one door, the 5-week Actuarial Associate track.

What Skills Does HCSC Look For, and How Do You Build Them?

Every HCSC posting asks for analytical skills, and 11 of 12 have interns research and analyze data and finish with a presentation to department leadership.
