Last updated: October 2026

The Hanover Insurance Group's summer 2027 internships are open now. On October 5, 2026, its student job board listed 18 summer 2027 intern roles, posted between August 20 and September 29, and none of them has a closing date. In plain words: you apply during 2026, you intern in summer 2027, and at Hanover the door opened in late August, about 9.5 months before the June start.

The program runs 10 weeks, full time, from June to mid-August, mostly at the Worcester, Massachusetts headquarters. Every posting but one publishes its pay, from $23 to $32 an hour. Most prefer a 3.0 GPA, and all 18 require US work authorization without sponsorship. Hanover says on its own careers site that 50 percent of interns become full-time employees.

What Is a Hanover Insurance Group Internship?

A Hanover Insurance Group internship is a paid, 10-week, full-time summer program at The Hanover, a property and casualty insurer based in Worcester, Massachusetts that sells only through independent agents and brokers. Interns work on a team's projects, attend weekly development workshops, join a group philanthropy project for a local nonprofit and, in 14 of 18 roles, present their work to leadership at the end. The company traces its roots to 1852 and had about 4,900 employees, all in the US, at the end of 2025, according to its 2025 annual report. It reported $6.59 billion in revenue for 2025. Hanover's early career page says 50 percent of participants become full-time employees. It isn't Hannover Re, the German reinsurer.

When Do Hanover Insurance Group Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?

Hanover posted its summer 2027 wave between August 20 and September 29, 2026, with 13 of the 18 roles going up from August 25 to 31. That's about two weeks earlier than last year, when Hanover announced the start of summer 2026 recruiting in early September 2025. Roles can also be added late: in the prior cycle, a Data Scientist intern applicant was hearing back in mid-December 2024. Applications for summer 2028 are expected from about late August 2027, based on these two cycles.

Now · early October 2026YOU ARE HERE

Applications for summer 2027 are open right now: 18 roles across underwriting, claims, actuarial, finance, data, technology, HR, legal and marketing. Three were added on September 29, including two field safety roles and an operations business analyst.

Apply first. Alongside it, the Attronica Financial Planning & Analysis Externship or the Wayfair n8n AI Agent Engineering Externship gives you a finished project to present, which 14 of Hanover's 18 postings ask interns to do.

Rolling review on all 18 roles. No posting has a closing date, so a role can come down as soon as it's filled. Responses can be fast: one prior-cycle applicant heard back two days after applying.

December 2026 to early 2027EXPECTED

Possible late additions. In the prior cycle a Data Scientist intern role was still interviewing in December 2024, and a Personal Lines Underwriting Strategy intern posting sits on Hanover's main board but wasn't accepting applications on October 5, 2026.

June to mid-August 2027

The 10-week summer 2027 program: team projects, weekly workshops, a philanthropy project and, for most roles, a final presentation to leadership. Hanover says half of its interns become full-time employees.

Late August 2027EXPECTED

Applications for summer 2028 are expected to open, based on the August 20, 2026 and early-September 2025 starts of the last two cycles.

How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.

Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open

Hanover recruits on a rolling basis. None of its 18 summer 2027 postings has an expiry date or a closing line in the body, which means each role stays open until the team fills it, not until a date. That cuts both ways: there's no deadline to miss, but there's also no point at which late applicants are guaranteed a look. The first roles have been open since August 20, and the earliest applicants have had six weeks. Apply now to the roles that fit, rather than waiting for a fall deadline that doesn't exist.

Which Hanover Insurance Group Internship Programs Should You Target?

Hanover posted 18 distinct intern roles for summer 2027. Each appears on both the student board and the main board under different posting numbers, so apply once per role.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

Hanover's requirements are nearly identical across its 18 postings:

• Enrollment: currently enrolled in a bachelor's or advanced degree program.

• Class year: the program page says it's typically for rising college seniors or students in a post-graduate advanced degree; the postings themselves don't restrict class year.

• GPA: a cumulative 3.0 or higher is preferred on 17 of 18 postings.

• Work authorization: every posting requires the ability to work in the US without sponsorship now or in the future.

• Availability: a full-time commitment for the 10-week program, June to mid-August 2027.

Is the 3.0 GPA a Hard Cutoff at Hanover?

Not on paper. Every posting that mentions it says a 3.0 is preferred, not required, and the Performance Innovations Process Analyst role doesn't list a GPA at all. Treat it as a screen you can clear with relevant coursework, an internship or a project. The sponsorship line is the firm requirement: it's on all 18 postings and on the program page.

Build These Skills Before You Apply

Each Hanover skill maps to a remote Externship that gives you a finished project to talk about, and to present, before your interviews.

What Is the Hanover Insurance Group Application and Interview Process Like?

Hanover doesn't publish its interview format, so this is what its postings and applicant reports show:

1. Apply on the Dayforce board. Apply to each role separately from the Emerging Professionals board.

2. Resume review. Check the sponsorship line first; it's a requirement on every posting, while the 3.0 GPA is a preference.

3. Screen. A recruiter or team screen. One prior-cycle Data Scientist intern applicant heard back two days after applying.

4. Team interviews. Interviews with the hiring team; the format isn't published, so prepare behavioral stories plus the technical basics your role names (Excel, SQL, Python or Power BI).

5. Offer. Then the 10-week program, June to mid-August 2027.

Our behavioral interview guide shows how to build stories with a clear result.

What the Community Says

Hanover internships get little Reddit discussion, and some threads mix it up with Hannover Re, so we added one first-hand Indeed intern review.

An applicant for Hanover's Data Scientist intern role said the company got back to them two days after they applied, in mid-December. The original poster later said they didn't get the offer.

How Do You Stand Out for a Hanover Internship?

Three moves. First, apply now and to the right board. The Emerging Professionals board shows only the 18 intern roles, and with no deadlines, early applications are read while every seat is open. Second, prove you can present. Fourteen of 18 postings end with a presentation to management and leadership, so put a presentation, a case competition or a finished project with a clear result on your resume. Third, show the tools your role names. SQL, Python and Power BI recur in the actuarial, data and technology roles, which also pay the most ($26 to $32 an hour). Hanover says 50 percent of interns become full-time employees; it doesn't publish class size or an applicant count.

FAQ

Can I still apply for a summer 2026 Hanover internship?

No. Hanover's summer 2026 class finished in August 2026. The open door is summer 2027: on October 5, 2026, Hanover had 18 intern roles live on its student board, posted between August 20 and September 29, with no closing dates. Apply now, because roles come down once they're filled.

When do Hanover summer 2027 applications close?

Hanover doesn't publish a deadline. None of the 18 summer 2027 postings carries an expiry date or a closing line, so each stays open until the team fills it. That makes early applications safer than late ones. Expect occasional new roles through the winter, as in the prior cycle.

How much do Hanover interns make?

Hanover posts a pay range on 17 of its 18 summer 2027 postings: $23 to $25 an hour for most business roles, $24 to $26 for the Financial Analyst, $26 to $31 for the Actuarial Analyst and $26 to $32 for the Application Engineer and Automation roles. All Hanover internships are paid.

Does Hanover sponsor visas for interns?

No. Every summer 2027 posting requires the ability to work in the US without sponsorship now or in the future, and the internship program page says the same. International students who would need sponsorship after graduation should check this line before applying to any Hanover role.

Is there a GPA requirement for Hanover internships?

Hanover lists a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher as preferred on 17 of its 18 summer 2027 postings, and one role names no GPA. It's a preference, not a stated cutoff, so a strong project, internship or relevant coursework can still carry an application below that line.

Where are Hanover internships located?

Most are at the Worcester, Massachusetts headquarters, some on a hybrid schedule. Professional Liability Underwriting is in Windsor, Connecticut, and Marine Underwriting is in Houston, Texas, two days a week in the office. The two field safety interns spend the summer in Worcester with a housing stipend.

Do Hanover interns get full-time offers?

Many do. Hanover's early career page says 50 percent of participants become full-time employees, and every posting describes the program as recruiting for potential full-time roles after graduation. Hanover doesn't publish the class size or an applicant count, so the 50 percent figure is the company's own claim.

Is The Hanover the same company as Hannover Re?

No. The Hanover Insurance Group is a US property and casualty insurer headquartered in Worcester, Massachusetts, listed on the NYSE as THG. Hannover Re is a German reinsurance company. They run separate careers sites and internships, and some online threads mix the two names up.

Hanover's 18 summer 2027 roles are open now with no deadline, so apply this month. Build a project you can present in parallel: a remote Externship gives you finished work and a clear result for Hanover's interviews.
