Last updated: October 2026
Feeding America's national office describes its internships as paid, but it doesn't run a published cycle. The last internship we found was a graduate research internship for the 2025–2026 school year, at 20 to 24 hours a week. Pay is not published on Feeding America's own pages, and the date of that posting is not published there either. As of 16 October 2026 the national office job board lists four openings and none is an internship. This guide covers the national office only: the roughly 200 member food banks hire separately.

The key facts: no internship is open on 16 October 2026, Feeding America has not published pay or a recruiting calendar on its own pages, and the official internships page is stale. The next posting could come at any time, so set a Jobvite alert and check it regularly. Local food banks hire separately.
Externships are short, remote programs where you finish a real project with a real company. What Is a Feeding America Internship?
A Feeding America internship is a paid, department-level role at the national office, not at a local food bank. The national office is headquartered in Chicago with an office in Washington, D.C. and remote employees, and its staff number more than 250. Feeding America describes itself in its postings as a national nonprofit and the largest hunger-relief organization in the United States, working through a network of about 200 food banks. Those member food banks, and the statewide associations and partner agencies they work with, hire on their own, so a local food bank internship is a different application. The official internships page still describes summer 2019, so it isn't a current source.

When Do Feeding America Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
Feeding America's national office doesn't publish a recruiting calendar, and its official internships page is a relic that still says summer 2019. The last internship we found was a graduate research internship for the 2025–2026 school year, but Feeding America has not published its posting date on its own pages. We don't project dates from it.
No internship is open. The national office board lists four openings on 16 October 2026 (a development coordinator, a policy vice president, a capacity-building director and a vendor-management manager) and none is an intern role. The only internship page on the site dates from 2019.
Prepare. Set a Jobvite job alert, since there is no other notification. A cover letter is required with every national office application, and the last posting required Excel and listed Tableau, R, STATA or SPSS and survey tools as preferred. Build one finished dashboard or analysis you can show.
Feeding America has not published when roles for summer 2027 or the 2027–28 school year will post. The old 2019 internships page said summer roles appeared "around January", but that page is stale. Watch the Jobvite board, where any posting could appear.
No summer 2027 timing was found, so we don't name a month. If a summer role posts, expect a short priority window rather than a year-ahead cycle.
School-year timing is not published. The last school-year research role we saw ran at 20 to 24 hours a week, and graduate students were the only eligible group in that posting.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
Feeding America has not published a deadline or priority date on its own pages. Because there is no public calendar and no alert beyond Jobvite, the safe move is a standing job alert plus a cover letter ready to adapt, so you can apply within days of a posting.
Which Feeding America Internship Programs Should You Target?
Feeding America has no current umbrella internship program page. Internships are department-specific and posted when a team needs one. Here is what we can document, and the distinction that matters most: national office versus local food banks.
| Program / Track | Focus | Duration | Key skills |
|---|---|---|---|
| National office: Research & Innovation (Graduate Research Intern) | Supports program evaluation for member food banks and research such as the annual Map the Meal Gap study; builds Tableau visuals and literature reviews | School year, 20–24 hrs/wk (last posting we saw) | Excel (required); Tableau; R, STATA or SPSS; survey tools such as Qualtrics |
| National office: other departments | Other national office departments may host interns; we found no current posting and no published pay | Not found | Not found |
| Local member food banks (not national) | About 200 member food banks hire their own interns and volunteers on separate sites and calendars | Varies by food bank | Varies; apply to your local food bank directly |
The national office board is at jobs.jobvite.com/feedingamerica. Don't treat a local food bank posting as a national office role, or the reverse.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
Eligibility comes from the last dated posting and the careers page, so confirm it against any new posting:
• Education: the last internship posting we saw required a current graduate student working toward a master's or doctoral degree in data science or the social sciences, including public health, social work, public policy or public administration. No undergraduate role is posted today.
• Skills: Microsoft Office, especially Excel, was required. Statistical software and survey tools were preferred.
• Location: commute to the downtown Chicago office at least an average of once a week.
• Work authorization: the careers page says Feeding America can't sponsor visas, and the posting states it participates in E-Verify.
• Application: a cover letter is required with your application.

Is There a GPA Requirement?
No GPA appears in the posting we read or on the careers pages. The posting did prefer a second-year graduate student, or a first-year graduate student with additional professional experience, and said interns are expected to be student learners rather than experts on research or food insecurity.
What Skills Does Feeding America Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
We have one full Feeding America internship posting to work from, so there is no skill-frequency chart. That posting asks for Excel and the Microsoft Office suite, strong analytical, oral and written communication, and knowledge of how to find and use scholarly research. It prefers experience with statistical software such as R, STATA or SPSS, survey tools such as Qualtrics or SurveyMonkey, and data visualization in Tableau.
Note: A single posting (Graduate Research Intern) is too small to chart. We list its skills in the table below instead of presenting percentages.
How Is Demand for Research Interns Moving Right Now?

Build These Skills Before You Apply
These skills map to finished remote projects you can show in a national office application.
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| Data visualization and dashboards | Posting: "data visualization tools such as Tableau and infographics preferred" | Center for Improving Youth Justice Data Analytics |
| Public-health style data analysis | Posting: gather and interpret secondary data with quality checks | ARCeH Data Analytics, Health Outcomes |
| Program and operations analysis | Posting: support program evaluation for the network of food banks | Healthcare Operations & Consulting |
| Written communication for audiences | Posting: strong oral and written communication | Pinterest Gen Z Consumer Behavior |
Fundraising, food-bank logistics and survey methodology are learned on the job or through coursework. The Externships cover the data and communication evidence.
What Is the Feeding America Application and Interview Process Like?
Feeding America publishes only the basics of its national office application.
1. Set a job alert on Jobvite. The national office posts at jobs.jobvite.com/feedingamerica, and you can create a job alert.
2. Apply with a cover letter. The careers page states a cover letter is required. If nothing fits, a General Application exists for unlisted roles.
3. Showcase your analysis. The last posting asked for Excel, with Tableau, R, STATA or SPSS and survey tools preferred, so include a short work sample.
4. Interview steps aren't published. We found no description of rounds, so ask the recruiter what to expect.
Beware of fake postings: Feeding America says legitimate roles are posted only on its official website.
What the Community Says
We found no first-hand account of a Feeding America national office internship on Reddit. The threads that came up were about food bank jobs in general, not the national office, so this section has no quote cards.
How Do You Stand Out for a Feeding America Internship?
Three moves. First, be ready before a posting, because Feeding America publishes no calendar. Keep a cover letter and a one-page work sample ready. Second, show the exact tools the last posting named: Excel, Tableau and either R, STATA or SPSS, plus a survey tool. A short dashboard on food-insecurity data from a public source shows all of it. Third, tie your interest to the national office's work, such as program evaluation for member food banks or the Map the Meal Gap study. Conversion to full-time isn't published, so treat the internship as research experience.

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2026 Feeding America internship?
No. Summer 2026 is over, and the national office board showed four openings on 16 October 2026, none an internship. The last internship we found was for the 2025–2026 school year. Feeding America hasn't published a calendar, so set a Jobvite alert for the next posting.
When do Feeding America internship applications open?
Feeding America has not published an application calendar or posting dates on its own pages. Roles could post at any time, and the old internships page is stale. Set a job alert on the Jobvite board and check it regularly, since the only way to know is a live posting.
Are Feeding America internships paid?
Pay is not published on Feeding America's own pages we could reach. The national office describes its internship program as paid, and the last graduate research role we saw worked 20 to 24 hours a week. Confirm the rate in each new posting on the Jobvite board before you plan around it.
Is a local food bank internship the same as a Feeding America internship?
No. This guide covers the national office in Chicago and Washington, DC. The roughly 200 member food banks hire their own interns and volunteers separately, with their own sites and calendars. Apply to your local food bank directly if that is where you want to work.
Can undergraduates intern at the Feeding America national office?
We found no current undergraduate role. The last internship posting we saw was for current graduate students in data science or the social sciences. Undergraduate eligibility wasn't stated anywhere we looked, so watch the Jobvite board and check each new posting's requirements.
Does Feeding America sponsor visas for interns?
No. The national office careers page says it is interested in every qualified candidate eligible to work in the United States but can't sponsor visas. The last internship posting we saw also stated that Feeding America participates in E-Verify to confirm work authorization.
Where do I apply for a Feeding America internship?
Apply through the national office Jobvite board at jobs.jobvite.com/feedingamerica. A cover letter is required. Create a job alert, because no internship is listed today, and ignore the old internships page, which still describes summer 2019. A General Application exists for unlisted roles.
Is the Feeding America internship hybrid or remote?
The last posting was hybrid: interns commuted to the downtown Chicago office at least an average of once a week. The national office also has a Washington, DC office and remote employees, but we found no remote-only internship posting, so confirm the work model in each new posting.
Feeding America's national office posts internships irregularly, so preparation beats timing. Set a Jobvite alert, check the board regularly, and spend the wait building proof: a remote Externship turns interest in food security into a finished data project your application can point at.
