Encompass Health is the nation's largest provider of inpatient rehabilitation, with 175+ hospitals as of 2025, and its summer 2027 Home Office internship program is already open. Sixteen department roles went up between 1 and 21 September 2026, from Corporate Finance and Tax Accounting to IT Security, BI/Data Warehousing, HR and Marketing, and all 16 were still live on Encompass's own job board on 3 October 2026. The program runs Monday 7 June to Friday 30 July 2027, on-site at the Home Office in Birmingham, Alabama. None of the postings lists a closing date. What Is an Encompass Health Internship?
An Encompass Health internship is an 8-week paid summer placement at the company's Home Office in Birmingham, Alabama, where a college student joins one department, from Corporate Finance to IT Security, and finishes with a final presentation.
The program page lists the shared pieces: orientation, master classes from in-house experts, virtual intern meetups, community service, mock interviews and networking, and a final project presentation. Each intern is paired with a mentor and placed on a team, according to the company's careers blog.
The company behind it was founded in 1984 as HealthSouth and took the Encompass Health name in 2019. About one in three US patients who get inpatient rehabilitation receive it at an Encompass hospital, per its About page. The Home Office internship is the corporate side of that business; bedside roles for students are posted by the hospitals themselves.

The roles are specific. Each department posts its own requisition, so a finance student and an IT student aren't competing for the same opening. That makes it worth applying to the one or two roles that match your coursework now rather than spraying applications later.
On-site availability is a hard filter. Every posting asks you to work at the Birmingham Home Office from 7 June to 30 July 2027, so settle summer classes and housing before you apply.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
These requirements come from the 16 summer 2027 postings on Encompass's Oracle board:
• Enrollment: you must be actively enrolled in a college or university. Seven postings prefer junior or senior standing.
• Major: Tax Accounting, Non Income Tax/Reimbursement and Financial Reporting want accounting majors; the five tech roles want computer science, IT or a related field; Corporate Finance wants finance or business.
• Availability: you must be able to work at the Birmingham Home Office from Monday 7 June to Friday 30 July 2027.
• Office skills: 13 of 16 postings ask for intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills.

Do You Need a Specific Major?

An Externship won't replace the coursework a posting asks for. It gives you a finished project and a presentation you've already delivered, which is exactly how the Encompass summer ends.
What Is the Encompass Health Application and Interview Process Like?
Encompass doesn't publish its interview format for interns. This is what the postings and careers site show:
1. Find your department. Search "Summer 2027" or "student intern" on the careers site. Each of the 16 roles is a separate requisition with its own duties and major requirements.
2. Apply through Oracle Cloud Recruiting. The careers site hands off to Encompass's Oracle board. Apply to the role that matches your coursework; you can apply to more than one.
3. Screening and interviews. The format isn't published. Expect questions on the department's work and why you want healthcare operations experience.
4. Offer and onboarding. Paid roles are employment, so expect standard pre-employment steps before 7 June 2027.
5. The program itself. Orientation, master classes, community service, mock interviews and a final presentation on 30 July 2027.
Nursing and pharmacy students should search "Nurse Extern" or "Pharmacy Intern" instead. Those roles are hired by the hospital that posts them and follow their own timelines.

An earlier Home Office intern in Birmingham described a paid internship with a kind supervisor and real exposure to how the company's operations work.
On the clinical side, a speech-language pathology student who did a placement at an Encompass hospital said sessions were mostly one-on-one, with an occasional stroke group, but the site had no instrumental swallow studies.
How Do You Stand Out for an Encompass Health Internship?
Three moves, all doable this month.
First, apply to the right requisition. Read the qualifications line by line: the tax and reporting roles want accounting majors, the tech roles want CS or IT, and Corporate Finance wants finance or business students who can build models. A clean match beats a broad application.
Second, connect your skills to rehab care. Encompass runs inpatient rehabilitation hospitals, so a finance applicant who understands hospital economics or a data applicant who knows what a patient outcome metric is will read differently from one who doesn't.
Third, prepare for the final presentation now. Twelve postings mention it. If you've already presented a finished project, from a class, a research lab or an Externship, say so and be ready to walk through it.
