CGI runs its US summer internship on two application windows, and the first one for summer 2027 just closed. Its 2027 Software Developer, Business Analyst and Cyber Security intern reqs state "Fall Application Period - August 24, 2026 - October 2, 2026." Two Reno, Nevada reqs posted later carry their own window, open until October 30, 2026.

In plain words: you apply during fall 2026 or spring 2027, you intern in summer 2027. CGI reopened applications in January in each of the last two years, so if you missed October 2, the next realistic door is early 2027.

What Is a CGI Internship?

A CGI internship is a 10-week, paid summer role in CGI's US business, where third-year students work as Software Developer, Business Analyst or Cyber Security interns on client projects from June to August. The US early careers page describes support from mentors, managers, internship coordinators and fellow interns.

The 2027 reqs put real client work and AI tools at the center. Software Developer interns help design, develop and test software features, and every track is asked to use AI-enabled tools "with appropriate human oversight."

This guide covers US programs only. CGI is headquartered in Canada, and its Canadian co-op terms run on a separate calendar.

When Do CGI Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?

CGI's US internship recruiting runs on two dated windows for each summer. For summer 2025, the fall window ran 26 August to 11 November 2024 and the spring window 13 January to 4 April 2025. For summer 2026, the spring window ran 19 January to 27 February 2026. For summer 2027, the fall window ran 24 August to 2 October 2026.

The windows have been getting shorter: fall went from about 11 weeks to about 6, and spring from about 12 weeks to about 6. So treat the expected spring 2027 dates below as low-confidence until CGI posts them.

How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.

Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open

CGI's windows are hard deadlines, stated in every 2027 req as a fixed "Fall Application Period." Once the date passes, the window is over even if the posting stays visible for a few days, as the 24 reqs that closed October 2 still were on October 3.

The windows are also shrinking. The summer 2026 spring window lasted just under six weeks, half the length of the summer 2025 one. If CGI reopens in January 2027 on a similar schedule, the students who apply in the first week get the whole window to be reviewed, and the ones who wait for February may find it already shut.

Which CGI Internship Programs Should You Target?

CGI hires interns into three tracks, each posted as a separate req per city. Pick the track that matches your major, as CGI's early careers page advises.

CGI's own "Explore internship opportunities" link filters by a job type that doesn't show the US intern reqs, so search the US job board for "intern" instead.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

Across the 2027 reqs we opened:

• Class year: "Current enrollment as a third-year student in a bachelor's degree program," so juniors now, rising seniors in summer 2027.

• Majors: Software Developer: Computer Science, Software or Computer Engineering, Information Systems. Business Analyst: Business, Information Systems, Economics, Analytics. Cyber Security: cybersecurity, information security, IT or CS.

• Work authorization: "Authorization to work in the United States on a permanent basis without current or future employer sponsorship." Some positions also require US citizenship or clearance eligibility; the Huntsville Cyber Security req requires US citizenship and DHS Public Trust eligibility.

• Background check: every US offer depends on a background investigation, which can include a credit check for some roles.

• GPA: none stated on the reqs we read.

What If You're a First- or Second-Year Student?

You can't apply to the 2027 intern reqs, since they ask for third-year students. CGI's early careers page lists programs for you instead: Consultant for a Day for first- and second-year students, the Consulting Challenge and virtual open houses. Those put you in CGI's campus pipeline before your third-year application.

What Skills Does CGI Look For, and How Do You Build Them?

All three tracks share one qualifications template, with track-specific duties on top.

Communication and analysis. Every req we read asks for clear written and verbal communication and strong analytical problem solving. Responsible AI use. Every 2027 req asks interns to use AI-enabled tools with human oversight. Track skills. Software Developer reqs prefer exposure to at least one programming or scripting language, Business Analyst reqs list requirements, workflows and user stories, and Cyber Security reqs list risk assessment and threat research.

How Do You Stand Out for a CGI Internship?

Three moves for the spring window.

Apply on day one. CGI's windows are short and getting shorter. Set an alert on the US job board in early January and have your resume ready for the track you want.

Show projects, not certificates. The reqs make programming exposure "preferred but not required," and interns report being hired on the strength of personal projects. A GitHub project or a finished analysis carries weight.

Talk about responsible AI. Every 2027 req asks interns to use AI tools with human oversight. Have one example ready of how you checked an AI tool's output for accuracy or privacy.

CGI doesn't publish an intern-to-full-time conversion rate, but community reports include interns who converted to full-time roles at its Fairfax office.

No. Summer 2026 internships ran June to August 2026, and their last window closed on 27 February 2026. For summer 2027, the fall window closed October 2, 2026 on most reqs, two Reno reqs stay open to October 30, and a spring 2027 window is expected around January.

When is the CGI summer 2027 internship deadline?
