Roughly nine out of ten Brown Gibbons Lang summer analysts get a full-time offer. BGL publishes the number itself: "Our average Offer Extension Rate since 2018 is 90%." And when those offers go out, people take them: BGL's October 2025 press release states that "In 2025, BGL had a 95% acceptance rate for Summer Analyst return offers." Vault ranked BGL's Summer Analyst Program ninth overall in its 2026 investment banking internship rankings, based on a survey of more than 17,000 interns from nearly 250 companies. The catch: BGL recruits its summer analysts during their sophomore year, in a window that opens in early January and finishes with Super Days in mid-February. Summer 2027 applications closed on 20 February 2026 and the requisition is gone from BGL's board. If you are a sophomore now, the Summer 2028 application is expected to open around early January 2027, and you have months to prepare, not weeks.

Application window (2027–28)Summer 2027: CLOSED (opened 1 Jan 2026, closed 20 Feb 2026). Summer 2028: expected to open early January 2027 and close mid-to-late February 2027 (BGL's own published pattern applied forward one year)
Rolling? No. BGL publishes a fixed stage calendar: applications early January, initial interviews mid-to-late January, second round early February, Super Days mid-February. A six-week funnel, not rolling
EligibilityCurrent sophomores at the time of application; rising seniors during the internship. Pursuing a bachelor's in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related. Previous financial services experience required. Strong GPA (no numeric threshold published). No visa sponsorship
Duration9 weeks (1 week training + 8 weeks work), typically early June to early August
CompensationNot published. BGL does not disclose summer analyst pay. For context, the published salary range for an experienced Industrials Investment Banking Analyst is $110,000–$130,000 (full-time, not intern pay)
Return offers90% average offer extension rate since 2018; 95% acceptance rate on 2025 return offers. BGL states: "We aim to fill our Analyst program with returning summer analysts"
LocationsSummer analysts are recruited for Chicago and Cleveland only. BGL also has offices in Boston, New York and Los Angeles, but those do not take summer analysts

The two numbers that matter: a January 2027 expected opening for summer 2028 (sophomore-year recruiting), and a six-week funnel that ends with Super Days in mid-February. BGL fills its analyst class from returning interns by design.

Externships are short, remote professional experience programs where you finish a real project with a real company. BGL requires "previous experience within financial services" from sophomores, which is the hardest eligibility line on this page. The Yinan Zhao Investing & Financial Modeling Externship and the Corporate Strategy Externship mentored by Eric Ries build exactly the financial modelling and strategic analysis evidence a BGL application needs. What Is a Brown Gibbons Lang Internship?

A Brown Gibbons Lang internship is the Summer Analyst Program, a paid, 9-week placement that puts rising seniors into real deal work at an independent middle-market investment bank. Founded in 1989 and still a partnership owned exclusively by its professionals, BGL focuses on M&A advisory, capital markets, financial restructurings, and valuations for middle-market companies, and is a founding member of REACH Cross-Border Mergers & Acquisitions, serving clients in 30 countries. Summer analysts are generalists, rotating across Consumer, Healthcare & Life Sciences, Industrials, Infrastructure, Services, Technology, and Real Estate coverage. The programme includes one week of training, eight weeks of work that mirrors the responsibilities of a full-time analyst, and a culminating case competition. Each intern gets a junior and a senior mentor. Since 2023 the firm has added more than 24 new senior bankers and over 30 new sectors, so a generalist intern in Summer 2028 would rotate across a coverage set that has been actively expanding.

When Do Brown Gibbons Lang Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?

BGL recruits its summer analysts on a sophomore-year, eighteen-months-ahead calendar. That means the cycle a student can act on today is Summer 2028, not Summer 2027. The Summer 2027 requisition opened on 1 January 2026 and closed on 20 February 2026, and it is no longer on BGL's Greenhouse job board. BGL's own campus recruiting FAQ gives the recurring annual calendar: applications open in early January, initial interviews run mid-to-late January, banker interviews come in early February, and Super Days close it out in mid-February. Campus events and the Emerging Women Leaders webinar series typically begin in late October the year before. For the Summer 2028 cycle, that means campus events should start appearing around late October 2026 and applications should open around early January 2027.

Now · September 2026YOU ARE HERE

Summer 2027 is closed. No Summer Analyst requisition is on BGL's job board and the campus events page reads "No Upcoming Campus Events." What you can do right now: join BGL's Talent Community and email campusrecruiting@bglco.com. Build the financial services experience BGL requires.

BGL requires "previous experience within financial services" from sophomore applicants. The Yinan Zhao Investing & Financial Modeling Externship and the Corporate Strategy Externship are remote, real-company projects that give a January 2027 application finished financial work to point at.
Late October – December 2026EXPECTED

Campus events expected: firm overviews at Midwest universities and a virtual Introduction to BGL session. The 2027 cycle visited Ohio State, Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Miami University and Indiana Bloomington. Watch bglco.com/careers/students and BGL's LinkedIn. The Emerging Women Leaders webinar series for female sophomores is expected to run in this window too.

Early January 2027EXPECTEDHARD DEADLINE

Summer 2028 application expected to open. BGL's published pattern: "Application openings: Early January." The prior cycle opened on 1 January 2026. Apply in week one; a Glassdoor candidate reported applying late and finding all but one spot filled.

January – February 2027EXPECTED

BGL's published funnel: initial interviews mid-to-late January, banker interviews (behavioural and technical) early February, Super Days mid-February. One candidate in May 2024 received an offer by phone the same day as the Super Day. The prior cycle's requisition closed 20 February 2026.

Summer 2028

Nine weeks, early June to early August. One week of training followed by eight weeks of generalist deal work across BGL's coverage groups, a case competition, and a formal evaluation. Chicago and Cleveland offices only.

How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.

Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open

BGL's window is six weeks from application opening to Super Days, and the prior cycle's requisition closed on 20 February 2026. That is one of the shortest funnels in investment banking. A Glassdoor candidate who applied late to the 2027 cycle said it plainly: "I applied very late so they had already filled up spots except one." BGL reviews applications as they come in, and the small class size means seats genuinely disappear. Combine that with the fact that BGL fills its full-time analyst class from returning interns by design ("We aim to fill our Analyst program with returning summer analysts"), and the stakes of this six-week window are as high as any in middle-market banking. If you are a sophomore and you miss early January, you are not competing for a late seat; you are probably not competing at all.

Which Brown Gibbons Lang Internship Programs Should You Target?

BGL runs one internship programme and one full-time entry programme. The Summer Analyst Programme is for sophomores; the Analyst I route is for seniors. Both lead to the same generalist analyst seat, but the internship is the intended pathway.

If additional analysts are needed, current seniors can apply. Two-week onboarding training with expert training partners

See all openings on the BGL careers page. The Summer Analyst Programme is the intended entry point; BGL states that the Analyst I class is filled from returning summer analysts first, and posts for seniors only when additional capacity is needed.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

BGL publishes clear, specific eligibility criteria on its campus recruiting page:

Class year: current sophomores at the time of application; rising seniors during the internship. BGL's own words: "Our Summer Analyst program is intended for those entering their final year of undergraduate study. Students apply for this role during their sophomore year of college."

Degree: pursuing a bachelor's in Finance, Accounting, Economics or other relevant fields.

GPA: "a strong GPA" is required, but BGL publishes no numeric threshold anywhere on its campus recruiting page or in its job postings.

Prior experience: "Previous experience within financial services and a solid understanding of basic markets, investment principles & accounting concepts" is listed as a requirement, not a preference. For a sophomore, that is the hardest line on this page.

Work authorization: "At this time, BGL cannot offer sponsorship. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship now and in the future."

How Does a Sophomore Get "Previous Financial Services Experience"?

This is the real question on BGL's eligibility page, and it is the one most competing articles skip. BGL requires financial services experience from students who have had exactly one summer by the time they apply. The realistic paths are a freshman-summer internship at a local wealth manager, accounting firm, or bank branch; a student investment fund with real AUM; a finance-focused externship that produces a deliverable (a model, a sourcing memo, a market analysis); or a strong extracurricular in a university finance club with a portfolio. BGL's own campus events start in late October, roughly three months before applications open, so the preparation window is the summer and early fall of freshman year. The standard "get an internship first" advice does not help a student who needs the experience before their sophomore January. A completed finance project is one of the few credentials a first-year student can realistically hold by then.

What Skills Does Brown Gibbons Lang Look For, and How Do You Build Them?

BGL had no Summer Analyst requisition live at the time of this research (the 2027 requisition closed in February 2026 and the 2028 cycle had not opened), and hiring.cafe returned zero postings for this employer. What BGL does publish is a clear set of selection criteria on its campus recruiting page and a live Industrials Investment Banking Analyst requisition that describes the work a summer analyst mirrors. The pattern is consistent: financial modelling and accounting fundamentals are the hard skills; communication, teamwork and drive are the soft ones; and the interview tests both through a behavioural-plus-technical format ending in a mid-February Super Day.

Note: Chart suppressed — BGL had no Summer Analyst requisition live at the time of research, and hiring.cafe returned zero postings for this employer. Skills analysis is drawn from BGL's published campus recruiting criteria and a live analyst requisition instead.

How Is Demand for Middle-Market Investment Banking Interns Moving Right Now?

Middle-market investment banking intern hiring right now: September 2026

Across US middle-market IB intern postings tracked this month · aggregate market data, all employers

Sophomore-year recruiting continues to spread: more middle-market banks now recruit summer analysts 18 months ahead, compressing the window and rewarding early preparation
=
Midwest-anchored banks hold steady: firms like BGL, Harris Williams and William Blair maintain Chicago and Cleveland intern classes while bulge brackets concentrate on New York
Healthcare and industrials coverage is expanding: middle-market M&A advisory firms are adding sectors and senior bankers, creating more generalist intern seats

September 2026 is this tracker's baseline month. The signal for middle-market IB is that the sophomore-recruiting calendar is now standard, not exceptional, and that Midwest-anchored firms offer a genuine alternative to the coastal bulge-bracket funnel for students who want live deal exposure in a smaller class.

Method: aggregate analysis of US middle-market investment banking intern postings, September 2026 baseline. Sample indexes under half of all US postings; figures show direction and relative level, not total market share.

Build These Skills Before You Apply

BGL requires "previous experience within financial services" from sophomore applicants. Each externship below produces a concrete deliverable a January application can point at.

Skill (from real JDs)JD evidenceExternship that builds it
Financial modelling & investment principlesSummer Analyst criteria: "a solid understanding of basic markets, investment principles & accounting concepts"; intern deliverables include "comparables research, financial models"Yinan Zhao Investing & Financial Modeling
Strategic analysis & case presentationBGL's internship ends in "a culminating case competition"; banker interviews assess candidates "through a behavioral and technical lens"Corporate Strategy Externship mentored by Eric Ries
Data analysis & commercial diligenceAnalyst requisition: "Performs financial analysis"; intern projects include "comparables research" and "market research"Breaking Games E-Commerce Data Analysis

How close is the overlap? The Yinan Zhao deliverable is a financial model and investment analysis in BGL's own vocabulary, the Corporate Strategy project builds the case-presentation skill tested in both the banker interviews and the culminating case competition, and the Breaking Games project produces commercial data analysis of the kind that underpins the comparables research and business due diligence BGL lists as intern work.

What Is the Brown Gibbons Lang Application and Interview Process Like?

BGL publishes its own three-step hiring process on its campus recruiting page, and its FAQ gives the full stage calendar. Combined with Glassdoor candidate accounts (employer name confirmed on the returned page), the funnel is unusually well documented:

1. Apply at bglco.com/careers/students when the requisition goes live in early January. BGL's own step 1: "After submitting your application in early January, you will hear back from our recruiting team, should there be a fit."

2. Recruiter screen (mid-to-late January). BGL: "a virtual interview for us to get to know you, confirm the information on your application, and discuss the details of the program as well as our firm." Glassdoor candidates report a mostly behavioural format with one or two technical questions mixed in.

3. Banker interviews (early February). BGL: "Qualified candidates will meet with our bankers in February to discuss their experience through a behavioral and technical lens." A Chicago candidate reports the second round was with a VP who focused more on technicals.

4. Super Day (mid-February). A Cleveland candidate in May 2024 described three rounds: HR screen, technicals round, then a combined behavioural and technical round, and received an offer by phone the same day. Another candidate described a four-round Super Day with an associate, a director and a senior managing director.

5. Offer and onboarding. Offers can come the same day as the Super Day. The internship starts in early June with a one-week training period before eight weeks of generalist work.

Because BGL's window runs only six weeks from application opening to Super Days, preparation must happen in the autumn before applications open. Read BGL's own guide to evaluating summer analyst programmes and practise the classic three-statement question ("Which financial statement would you pick if you could only use one?"), which is a real reported BGL interview question.

What the Community Says

BGL has no usable Reddit footprint: across every reddit.com URL returned for the firm, Brown Gibbons Lang appears only as a name in peer lists, never in connection with an internship. The cards below draw on Glassdoor (21 Investment Banking Summer Analyst interview reviews) and Indeed (one dated first-hand intern review), both with employer names confirmed on the returned pages.

A Summer Analyst candidate in Cleveland described a three-round process: an HR screen, a technicals round, then a combined behavioural and technical round. The process was similar to most investment banking interviews, and the candidate received an offer by phone the same day as the Super Day.

Another candidate said the first round with the recruiter was mostly behavioural with a single technical question: which financial statement would you pick if you could only use one? The second round with a VP went deeper on technicals. BGL's overall interview experience rating across 21 Summer Analyst reviews is 2.6 out of 5.

A former BGL analyst intern in Chicago said they were eased into responsibilities, that colleagues were readily willing to answer questions, and that hours ran around 60 a week even as an intern. They called it a great experience for someone starting a finance career. BGL has since added a formal one-week training period that directly addresses that reviewer's "minimal training" note.

How Do You Stand Out at a Firm That Recruits Sophomores Eighteen Months Ahead?

Four moves, all executable before January 2027. First, go to the campus events, even if BGL does not visit your school: the virtual Introduction to BGL session is open to anyone, and BGL explicitly says it "open[s] our application process to students across the nation." Second, get the financial services experience line ticked before you apply: BGL lists it as a requirement, not a preference, and as a sophomore you have had exactly one summer. A finished finance externship, a student fund, or a freshman internship at a local wealth manager is the realistic path. Third, prepare the technicals from the standard source: a Glassdoor candidate reports "simple technicals straight from 400 M&I guide," and the classic three-statement question ("Which financial statement would you pick if you could only use one?") is a specifically attributed BGL question. Fourth, read BGL's own research: the firm publishes sector reports on packaging, building products distribution and more at bglco.com/insights, and it published its own guide to choosing a summer analyst programme in April 2026. Citing a specific BGL report in an interview demonstrates work nobody asked you to do. And remember: BGL's small class means every seat matters. A late application found "all but one spot" filled. Apply in week one.

FAQ

Can I still apply for a summer 2026 Brown Gibbons Lang internship?

No. BGL recruits its summer analysts during their sophomore year, roughly eighteen months before the internship starts. The summer 2026 class was recruited in early 2025, and those interns are the "Incoming 2026 Analyst" testimonials on BGL's campus page now. The summer 2027 class was recruited from January to February 2026 and is also closed. The next open cycle is summer 2028: expect applications to open in early January 2027.

When do BGL Summer Analyst applications open?

Early January, and BGL publishes this itself. Its campus recruiting FAQ gives the full calendar: applications open in early January, initial interviews run mid-to-late January, second-round interviews are in early February, and Super Days are in mid-February. The prior cycle's requisition opened on 1 January 2026 and closed on 20 February 2026.

What year of college do I need to be in to apply?

Your sophomore year. BGL states it directly: "Our Summer Analyst program is intended for those entering their final year of undergraduate study. Students apply for this role during their sophomore year of college." You apply as a sophomore and intern as a rising senior, roughly eighteen months later. If you are already a junior, the Summer Analyst programme is out of reach and the Analyst I route as a senior is the alternative.

How long is the BGL Summer Analyst internship?

Nine weeks, typically from early June to early August. The first week is training and the remaining eight weeks are, in BGL's words, "work that mirrors the responsibilities of an Analyst." Every intern participates in a culminating case competition and is assigned both a junior and a senior mentor.

What is BGL's intern-to-full-time conversion rate?

BGL publishes it: "Our average Offer Extension Rate since 2018 is 90%." It also reported that in 2025 it had a 95% acceptance rate on Summer Analyst return offers. And its stated design intent is that "We aim to fill our Analyst program with returning summer analysts." Note the precise meaning: 90% is the share of interns who receive a full-time offer, not the share of applicants who get the internship, for which BGL publishes no figure.

How much do BGL summer analysts get paid?

BGL does not publish summer analyst compensation. What BGL does publish is a full-time salary range of $110,000 to $130,000 for an experienced Industrials Investment Banking Analyst in Chicago or Cleveland, which is the full-time role rather than the internship and is not the starting analyst salary either.

Which offices does BGL hire summer analysts into?

Chicago and Cleveland only. BGL has five investment banking offices (Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Los Angeles and New York), but its FAQ states: "For Analysts and Summer Analysts, we currently recruit for our Chicago and Cleveland Offices." Chicago carries Consumer, Food and Beverage, Industrials, Healthcare, Services, Infrastructure and Debt Capital Markets coverage. Cleveland carries Industrials, Services, Infrastructure and Technology.

Does BGL sponsor work visas?

No. "At this time, BGL cannot offer sponsorship. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship now and in the future." It is stated without qualification.

BGL's Summer 2028 application is expected in early January 2027, and BGL fills its analyst class from returning interns by design. Spend the runway building proof: a remote Externship turns "interested in investment banking" into a finished financial project a sophomore application can point at.
