Last updated: October 2026
BPM LLP, the San Francisco accounting and advisory firm, hires interns twice a year, and both intakes are open now. On October 12, 2026, its Lever job board carried exactly three internship postings: Assurance Intern (Summer 2027), Risk Assurance Intern (Summer 2027) and Tax Intern (January 2027). Each one covers several offices, so job sites that show a separate row for every city make the list look far longer than three. Pay is printed in each posting: $30 to $35 an hour for the two summer roles and $29 to $33 for tax.
In plain words: you apply during 2026, and you intern either from January 7, 2027 (tax, part-time around classes) or in summer 2027 (audit and IT audit). No posting states a deadline, and the tax role starts in less than three months.
What Is a BPM Internship?
A BPM internship is a paid role at BPM LLP, a San Francisco accounting and advisory firm founded in 1986 whose name stands for "Because People Matter." This page is about that firm, not business process management jobs. Interns join the assurance (audit), tax or risk assurance (IT audit) practice, get "a personal Coach and Buddy," attend regional intern events and partner speaker sessions, and finish a group project with other interns. BPM's Who We Are page describes a team of over 1,300 professionals, a Certified B Corporation, and a #32 rank on INSIDE Public Accounting's 2026 Top 500. BPM LLP is #34 on Vault's 2027 Most Prestigious Accounting Firms list. The firm's Early Careers page says its internships are "primarily remote, with opportunities to be in-person if you're local to our office."

When Do BPM Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
BPM posts each intake separately. The Tax Intern (January 2027) posting was created on April 28, 2026, about 8 months before its January 7, 2027 start. The Assurance Intern (Summer 2027) posting was created on September 9, 2026, and Risk Assurance on August 25, roughly 9 months before a June start; BPM doesn't publish exact summer dates. Those are posting-creation timestamps from the job board, so treat them as the earliest the roles could have gone public. Archived copies of the board show the same rhythm in the last two cycles: summer postings appeared between July and October of the year before, and January postings between April and July. A year ago BPM also listed an Assurance Intern (January 2026) role; no January 2027 assurance posting is on the board today.
Applications are open right now for the January 2027 Tax internship and for the summer 2027 Assurance and Risk Assurance internships. None of the three postings states a closing date.
Interviews for all three roles are likely to continue. Hiring for the January 2027 Tax internship has to finish before the January 7 start, so that posting is the one most likely to come down first.
The January 2027 Tax internship starts on January 7, 2027 and runs through the April tax deadline: 20 hours a week in January, then at least 30 hours a week from February to April.
Next cycle's postings: the Tax internship for January 2028 is expected between about April and July 2027, and the Assurance internship for summer 2028 between about July and October 2027, based on the last two cycles.
The nine-week summer 2027 Assurance internship and the Risk Assurance internship. BPM is already hiring full-time Assurance Associates for a September 2027 start, which is the class these internships feed.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
BPM's hiring is rolling. None of the three internship postings carries a closing date, and the Early Careers page says the IT assurance internship is offered "with no deadline for applying." That doesn't mean the seats wait. The Tax posting has been open since late April for a January 7, 2027 start, so most of its hiring season is behind it. The summer 2027 postings are about five and seven weeks old, and each covers several offices under one listing, so when BPM closes a posting it closes for every office at once. BPM publishes no class size, so you can't tell how many seats are left. Apply this month, and name the office you can work from.
Which BPM Internship Programs Should You Target?
Three BPM internships are posted today. Two more are described on the Early Careers page but have no live posting.
| Program | Focus | Term and offices | Published pay |
|---|---|---|---|
| Assurance Intern (Summer 2027), open | Audit procedures, financial statement analysis, internal control testing | Nine-week summer program; San Francisco, San Jose, Santa Rosa, Sacramento, Long Beach, Santa Monica, Las Vegas | $30 to $35 an hour |
| Risk Assurance Intern (Summer 2027), open | IT audit: SOX, SOC, ISO 27001, FedRAMP | Summer 2027; hybrid in San Francisco or San Jose | $30 to $35 an hour |
| Tax Intern (January 2027), open | Tax returns, work papers and tax research | January 7 to April 2027, part-time; Irvine, Las Vegas, Long Beach, San Francisco, San Jose, Santa Monica, Santa Rosa, Walnut Creek | $29 to $33 an hour |
| Assurance Intern, winter (not posted) | Part-time audit internship around classes | January through May, per the Early Careers page | Not posted |
| Outsourced Accounting and Advisory internships (not posted) | Small-business accounting; valuation, ERP and transaction advisory | Not stated | Not posted |
BPM's Early Careers page says it hosts audit internships "twice a year, in the winter and summer." The winter assurance role isn't currently posted, so check the job board before you plan around it.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
The three postings set these requirements:
• GPA: a minimum of 3.0 on all three.
• Major: accounting, business administration, finance or economics, at the bachelor's, master's or certificate level. Risk Assurance also takes accounting information systems and cybersecurity.
• Graduation window: between 09/2027 and 12/2029 for the two summer 2027 roles; between 2026 and 2029 for the January 2027 Tax role.
• Credential track: "interest in pursuing or obtaining CPA" licensure requirements for assurance and tax, and interest in the CISA for risk assurance.
• Availability (tax): start on January 7, 2027 and work at least 30 hours a week from February to April.
• Location: you work from one of the listed California offices or Las Vegas. Risk Assurance is only for candidates in the San Francisco or San Jose area.
• Work authorization: the postings don't mention sponsorship. Vault's internship profile lists international students as not eligible, so confirm with the recruiter.

Is the 3.0 GPA a Hard Cutoff at BPM?
It's written as a minimum in all three postings, so expect it to screen, and BPM publishes nothing about exceptions. The graduation window matters as much: a summer 2027 applicant graduating before September 2027 falls outside it. One oddity to know about: the summer assurance posting's requirements include a line about being able to start in January, which looks like a leftover from the January version. The title and the Early Careers page both say summer, so ask the recruiter if it worries you.

What Skills Does BPM Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
With only three postings, the pattern is simple. All three ask for strong written and verbal communication and a 3.0 in an accounting-related major. The Assurance posting has interns "analyze financial statements and related disclosures," perform audit procedures and test internal controls. The Tax posting is about "preparing meticulous work papers and tax returns" and researching tax issues for seniors and managers. Risk Assurance is the technical one: "direct auditing work on IT systems through SOX, SOC, ISO 27001, FedRamp," with a sense of audit skepticism. No posting names specific software.

For BPM applicants: BPM's board carried three intern postings on October 12, 2026: Tax for January 2027, and Assurance and Risk Assurance for summer 2027. None states a closing date, and the tax role starts January 7, so apply now.

Build These Skills Before You Apply
No open Externship is an audit or tax program, so these remote Externships match the adjacent skills in BPM's postings.
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| Financial statement analysis | Assurance: "analyze financial statements and related disclosures to identify any material misstatements" | Yinan Zhao Investing & Financial Modeling |
| IT risk and security controls | Risk Assurance: "direct auditing work on IT systems through SOX, SOC, ISO 27001, FedRamp" | Hydroficient Advanced: IoT Cyber Defense |
| Critical analysis of data | Tax: "apply critical analysis to data, preparing meticulous work papers" | Breaking Games E-Commerce Data Analysis & Strategy |
The Risk Assurance match is the closest: that role is about how systems are secured and controlled, which is the subject of the Hydroficient project.
What Is the BPM Application and Interview Process Like?
BPM doesn't publish its interview steps. Here's what the postings and interns surveyed by Vault describe:
1. Apply on the Lever board. There's one posting per program, and you pick your office in the application. Some interns told Vault they applied through Handshake.
2. Interview. One intern described a single interview with a manager and a supervisor together. Interns said the conversation was mostly about them, including hobbies and travel, with questions like why they chose BPM and what they expected from the internship.
3. Offer. Hiring is rolling, with no published timeline from interview to offer.
4. Start. Tax interns start January 7, 2027. Summer interns get a Coach and a Buddy and training from the Learning & Development team.
Vault's intern quotes are undated, so treat the format as typical, not guaranteed. Our behavioral interview guide covers the "why this firm" questions.
What Interns Say on Vault
Reddit has almost nothing first-hand from BPM interns, so these come from the intern survey on Vault's BPM internship profile. Vault doesn't date the quotes.
Interns said they applied on Handshake and had one interview with a manager and a supervisor at the same time. The interviewers mostly wanted to talk about things outside work, like hobbies and travel.
The internship was fully remote, with the option to go into an office. Some interns said their assigned projects had little work for them, so it was up to them to go and find something to do.
On full-time prospects, interns said the firm usually wants to hire most of the interns it takes on, though one noted offers were less common on their own team. Pay was called decent but not top of the market.
How Do You Stand Out for a BPM Internship?
Three moves. First, pick the intake that fits your calendar. Tax is a part-time January to April commitment built around classes; assurance is a nine-week summer program. Check your graduation date against the posting's window before you apply. Second, show the credential plan. CPA interest is a written requirement for assurance and tax, and CISA interest for risk assurance, so say where you are on the education requirements. Third, have a specific answer to "Why BPM?" The B Corp certification and the industry groups named in the postings (blockchain, financial services, real estate, nonprofit) are concrete things to point to. Because the program is mostly remote, interns told Vault you sometimes have to ask for work. Say in the interview how you'd handle that. BPM publishes no applicant count, class size or conversion rate.

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2026 BPM internship?
No. The summer 2026 internship is over and its posting is gone from BPM's board. Three internships are open as of October 12, 2026: Tax Intern for January 2027, and Assurance Intern and Risk Assurance Intern for summer 2027. All three are on BPM's Lever job board, and none states a closing date.
When do BPM internship applications open for summer 2027?
They're open now. BPM created the Risk Assurance Intern (Summer 2027) posting on August 25, 2026 and the Assurance Intern (Summer 2027) posting on September 9, 2026. In the two previous cycles the summer posting first appeared between July and October of the year before, so this timing is typical.
Does BPM have an application deadline for interns?
No posted deadline. None of the three internship postings states a closing date, and BPM's Early Careers page says its IT assurance internship has no deadline for applying. Hiring is rolling, so a posting can close once the class is full. The Tax internship has a fixed start date of January 7, 2027.
How much do BPM interns get paid?
BPM prints pay in each posting. Summer 2027 Assurance and Risk Assurance interns earn $30.00 to $35.00 an hour depending on location, and January 2027 Tax interns earn $29.00 to $33.00, which the posting calls non-negotiable. BPM doesn't say which office sits at which end of the range.
What GPA do you need for a BPM internship?
A minimum of 3.0. All three postings require it, along with a major in accounting, business administration, finance or economics. Risk Assurance also accepts accounting information systems and cybersecurity majors. The two summer 2027 roles are for students graduating between September 2027 and December 2029.
Is the BPM internship remote?
Mostly. BPM's Early Careers page says its internships are primarily remote, with the option to work in person if you live near an office. The Risk Assurance internship is the exception: it's only open to candidates in the San Francisco or San Jose area who can keep a hybrid schedule.
Do BPM interns get full-time offers?
BPM doesn't publish a conversion rate. Interns surveyed by Vault said the firm usually aims to hire most of its interns, though one said offers were less common on their team. BPM is hiring full-time Assurance Associates for a September 2027 start, so the path from intern to associate exists.
Can international students apply for a BPM internship?
Probably not, but confirm it. Vault's BPM internship profile lists international students as not eligible, and none of BPM's three postings mentions visa sponsorship or work authorization either way. If you'd need sponsorship, ask the recruiter before you spend time on the application.
BPM's January 2027 tax posting and both summer 2027 postings are open with no stated deadline, so apply this month. To bring a finished project into the interview, a remote Externship gives you real analysis work to walk through.
