# Programs1: The Boxwood Internship, in M&A investment banking

Last updated: October 2026

Boxwood Partners is a boutique M&A bank with three offices and a top-ten internship. Vault ranks it #10 among investment bank internships for 2026. You get in through conversations, not a portal: the application is a web form and an email address, and interns describe a month or more of calls. Last cycle, Boxwood announced on November 4, 2025 that it was accepting applications for its 2026 Summer Internship Program. No announcement for summer 2027 had appeared by October 12, 2026, so we expect it around early November 2026. In plain words: you apply in fall 2026, you intern in summer 2027.

One thing to know before you apply: Vault's profile of the program lists its compensation as "Unpaid," and Boxwood itself publishes nothing about pay.

What Is a Boxwood Partners Internship?

A Boxwood Partners internship is a 10-to-12-week summer program, running May to August, in the M&A practice of Boxwood Partners, a boutique investment bank based in Jupiter, Florida. The firm advises founder-led and private-equity-backed businesses on sell-side deals in the lower middle market. Interns work with live deal teams on client pitches, buyer lists, industry research and due diligence, according to Boxwood's internship page. The program ranks #10 on Vault's 2026 Best Investment Bank Internships list, and Vault also placed it #3 for culture of acceptance and #11 for real-life experience. Boxwood says the program has hosted more than 80 interns from 25 universities across its three offices. It's a small program at a small firm: there's one track, no job portal, and Vault records the number of interns each summer only as "Varies."

When Do Boxwood Partners Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?

Boxwood has no job board, so its calendar shows up in announcements. On November 4, 2025, the firm said it was "now accepting applications for its 2026 Summer Internship Program" in Jupiter, Richmond and Charleston, about six to seven months before a May 2026 start. That's the one dated announcement we have. Two interview reports on Wall Street Oasis fit the same season: one intern interviewed in October 2022 and another in November 2024. Vault's profile says applications "are due in the fall of each year." So the call for summer 2027 is expected around early November 2026, and the call for summer 2028 in fall 2027. The form on the internship page stays up between cycles and names no year.

Now · mid-October 2026YOU ARE HERE

The formal call for summer 2027 hasn't been announced yet. Last cycle it came on November 4, 2025. The application form on Boxwood's internship page stays up year-round and takes submissions, but the page names no cycle year. This window is when you build the proof and start conversations.

Before the calls start, the Yinan Zhao Investing & Financial Modeling Externship or the HP Tech Ventures Deal Sourcing & Startup Analysis Externship gives you finished modeling or company research to talk about.
Early November 2026EXPECTEDROLLING — APPLY WEEK 1

Boxwood is expected to announce that it's accepting applications for summer 2027, about six to seven months before a May 2027 start. No closing date has been published in any cycle.

November to December 2026EXPECTED

Calls and interviews for summer 2027. Interns told Vault they had calls with several employees over about a month, and one Wall Street Oasis report describes calls over two to three months followed by an in-person interview.

May to August 2027

The summer 2027 internship: 10 to 12 weeks, full-time, in Jupiter, Richmond or Charleston. Boxwood's page lists seven former interns on staff today.

Fall 2027EXPECTED

Applications for summer 2028 are expected, if Boxwood keeps to the fall pattern Vault describes.

How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.

Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open

Boxwood's process is rolling in practice, and the reason to move early is the length of the conversation, not a deadline. The firm has never published a closing date. Its form is up all year, and Vault says only that applications "are due in the fall of each year." What takes time is the calls. Interns told Vault they "had lots of calls with multiple employees over about a month," and a Wall Street Oasis report from November 2024 describes a process of two to three months before an offer. A student who first makes contact in December may be starting those calls after other candidates have finished theirs. Send your resume when the summer 2027 call is announced, expected around early November 2026, and treat every call as part of the interview.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

Boxwood's internship page and its Vault profile set out these requirements:

• GPA: a minimum of 3.0.

• Field of study: "Studying finance and/or accounting and show past success within their academics."

• Class year: Vault lists college sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate students and business school students as eligible.

• Skills: "Strong writing, verbal communication, and computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)."

• Work style: self-motivated, detail oriented and able to "manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment."

• Work authorization: Boxwood's careers page says it "is not currently hiring individuals for these positions who now or in the future require sponsorship for employment visa status." Vault lists international students as not eligible.

Is the 3.0 GPA a Hard Cutoff at Boxwood Partners?

The page words it as a minimum, so plan on meeting it. Past that line, interns say fit carried more weight than grades or technical depth. One told Vault the firm "wanted to know if I was coachable and willing to work hard rather than if I knew everything about the industry." The sponsorship rule is the firmer screen: it's stated on the careers page and repeated in Vault's profile. Budget matters here too. With Vault listing the internship as unpaid and no housing support mentioned anywhere, check whether you can afford a full-time summer in Jupiter, Richmond or Charleston before you start the calls.

What Skills Does Boxwood Partners Look For, and How Do You Build Them?

Boxwood's internship description names the work: interns help prepare "new client pitches and client presentations," identify "potential acquirers and private equity firms," run industry and company research, and support due diligence. The analyst and associate descriptions repeat the same four tasks and add financial modeling and client contact. Interns surveyed by Vault describe the tools behind it: PowerPoint for CIM slides (a CIM is the confidential information memorandum sent to buyers), pitch decks and industry overviews, and Excel for buyer lists and data packs. One intern's advice was to "fully understand the M&A process and get comfortable with Excel and PowerPoint."

What Is the Boxwood Partners Application and Interview Process Like?

Boxwood doesn't publish a formal process. Here's what its page, Vault's intern survey and two community reports show:

1. Send your application. Use the form on the internship page or email a resume to the careers address listed there, and say which office you want.

2. Calls with the team. Interns told Vault they had calls with multiple employees over about a month, mostly about themselves and not technical.

3. Basic technical questions. Reported questions include "What is a CIM?" and how the three financial statements relate. One Wall Street Oasis report from 2022 mentions about five simple technical questions by phone.

4. In-person interview. A Wall Street Oasis report from November 2024 describes calls over two to three months, then an invitation to interview in person.

5. Offer. The internship then runs May to August.

What Interns Say on Vault and Wall Street Oasis

We found no Reddit threads about the Boxwood internship, so these cards use first-hand intern accounts from Vault's survey and Wall Street Oasis.

Interns described lots of calls with several employees over about a month, mostly personal and not technical. One said the firm cared whether they were coachable and willing to work hard.

How Do You Stand Out for a Boxwood Partners Internship?

Three moves. First, treat every call as the interview. Interns say the firm screens for fit, so be clear on why banking, why a boutique and why Boxwood, and be someone the team would want around at 9 pm. Second, know the basics cold. Be able to explain what a CIM is, how the three statements connect and how a sell-side M&A process runs, and get fast in Excel and PowerPoint before day one. Third, know the niche. Boxwood's announcement calls it "Franchising's Leading M&A Advisory Firm," so read a few of its recent franchise and consumer deals. Boxwood publishes no class size, acceptance rate or offer rate. Its page says seven former interns work there full time today, out of 70-plus interns since the program began; that's a headcount, not a conversion rate.

FAQ

Can I still apply for a summer 2027 Boxwood Partners internship?

Yes, the cycle hasn't formally started. As of October 12, 2026, Boxwood hadn't announced its summer 2027 call; last cycle's announcement came on November 4, 2025. The application form on its internship page takes submissions year-round. Summer 2026 is over, so summer 2027 is the cycle to aim for, with calls likely in November and December.

When do Boxwood Partners internship applications open for summer 2027?

Expect a formal call around early November 2026. Boxwood announced its summer 2026 applications on November 4, 2025, about six to seven months before a May start, and Vault says applications are due in the fall of each year. That's one dated announcement, so treat early November as an estimate.

Does Boxwood Partners hire interns on a rolling basis?

In practice, yes. Boxwood has never published a closing date, its form is available all year, and interns describe a run of calls lasting one to three months. There's no portal that opens and shuts. Getting in touch early in the fall matters because the conversations take time, not because of a deadline.

Is the Boxwood Partners internship paid?

Vault's profile lists the internship's compensation as "Unpaid." Interns told Vault it's "technically not paid," with free dinner on late nights and a bonus of unknown size. Boxwood's own internship page and announcement say nothing about pay, so ask the firm directly during your calls and plan your summer budget around the answer.

What GPA do you need for a Boxwood Partners internship?

A minimum of 3.0, according to Boxwood's internship page, along with finance or accounting coursework and strong Excel, PowerPoint and writing skills. Vault lists sophomores through graduate students as eligible. Boxwood also says it isn't hiring anyone who needs visa sponsorship now or in the future.

What is the Boxwood Partners internship interview process like?

It's a series of calls with several team members over a month or more, weighted toward fit. Interns told Vault most calls were about them, not technical, though basic questions on CIMs and the three financial statements came up. One Wall Street Oasis report describes an in-person interview after the calls.

What do Boxwood Partners interns do?

They work on live sell-side M&A deals. Boxwood's description lists client pitches and presentations, identifying acquirers and private equity firms, industry research and due diligence support. Interns told Vault that meant CIM slides, a live pitch deck, buyer lists and data packs, with workdays that often ran long into the evening.

Do Boxwood Partners interns get full-time offers?

Some do, but Boxwood publishes no offer rate. Its internship page says seven former interns are full-time employees today and names them, from a 2023 intern who is now an Analyst to 2008 and 2013 interns who are Managing Directors. That's a count of current staff, not a per-class conversion rate.

Boxwood's call for summer 2027 is expected around early November 2026, and the process is a run of conversations. Go into them with work you can describe: a remote Externship gives you finished modeling or company research to talk through on your first call.
