Blue Cross NC opens applications for its summer 2027 internships in February 2027, and not before. Its student page lists the whole calendar: apply in February 2027, interview February to April, and intern May 17 to July 23, 2027. In plain words: you apply in early 2027, you intern in summer 2027, and on October 5, 2026 there's no student internship to apply to yet.

That makes Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina a late-window employer, about 3.5 months from application to start, unlike the fall waves at many insurers. The 10-week program is hybrid from the Durham headquarters, and Blue Cross NC's 2026 posting published pay by degree level: $20 an hour for rising sophomores, $22 for rising juniors and seniors, $29 for master's and JD students, and $36 for MBA and PharmD students. Use the next four months to get your resume and one solid project ready for February.

Externships are short, remote programs where you finish a real project for a real company, usually in about 8 weeks at 5 to 10 hours a week. An October cohort ends well before Blue Cross NC's February window. The TruBridge Healthcare Data Analytics Externship fits its data and analytics internships, and the Healthcare Operations Consulting Externship fits its strategy and business operations roles. What Is a Blue Cross NC Internship?

A Blue Cross NC internship is a paid, 10-week summer program at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, the state's only not-for-profit health insurer, based in Durham. Interns work on hands-on projects in areas from IT and data to finance, sales and health care, get a personal mentor, join executive lunch-and-learns and coffee chats, and take part in community service. The program has run since 2005, and its student page links a RippleMatch 2025 Campus Forward award. Founded in 1933, Blue Cross NC's About Us page lists more than 5.8 million total members across all 100 North Carolina counties.

When Do Blue Cross NC Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?

Blue Cross NC runs one application window a year, and it comes in winter, not fall. For summer 2027 its student page says February 2027, with interviews February to April and the program from May 17, so applications open about 3.5 months before the start. The month has moved by about one month each way: applications were open by February 8, 2024 for summer 2024, and the page said January 2026 for summer 2026. Treat February as firm for the month but watch the board from mid-January in case it opens early. Summer 2028 applications are expected around January or February 2028.

Applications for summer 2027 aren't open yet. On October 5, 2026 Blue Cross NC's board had no student internship; its only intern-titled posting is a SkillBridge role for active-duty military. This window is when you build the proof you'll apply with in February.

An October cohort finishes before the window opens: the TruBridge Healthcare Data Analytics Externship or the Healthcare Operations Consulting Externship gives you a finished health care project for your resume.

February 2027EXPECTEDSHORT WINDOW — APPLY WEEK 1

Applications for summer 2027 are expected to open, per Blue Cross NC's student page. Applications are reviewed as they arrive, and the window is about a month, so apply in the first days it opens.

February to April 2027EXPECTED

After the window closes, selected candidates get a 30-minute virtual interview with the Early Career Talent Programs team, then a 45-minute virtual final with the hiring manager and potential teammates.

Summer 2027

The internship runs May 17 to July 23, 2027, 10 weeks with a mentor, executive sessions and community service. Summer 2028 applications are expected around January or February 2028.

How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.

Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open

Blue Cross NC has one short window, not a rolling season. Its hiring page says applications are reviewed as they're submitted and that candidates hear about interviews after the window closes. With the window lasting about a month, a late application competes for whatever interview slots are left, and there's no second wave later in the spring. Last year the month moved from February to January, so the safe plan is to have everything ready by mid-January 2027 and to apply in the first days the summer 2027 postings appear.

Which Blue Cross NC Internship Programs Should You Target?

Blue Cross NC runs one Summer Internship Program and posts individual roles inside it when the window opens. Its student page names these areas.

The student positions page carries the current timeline; individual roles appear on the Workday board in February.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

Blue Cross NC hasn't posted its summer 2027 roles yet, so these come from its student page and its 2026 Beyond Blue posting:

• Enrollment: college students; the 2026 pay table ran from rising sophomores to MBA, JD and PharmD students.

• Class year: the 2026 Beyond Blue posting asked for rising juniors or seniors; other roles may differ.

• Residency: the 2026 posting required interns to live in North Carolina for the duration of the program, working remotely from the state with events at the Durham campus.

• Schedule: full-time, 40 hours a week for 10 weeks in 2026.

• GPA and work authorization: neither was stated in the 2026 posting; check the 2027 postings in February.

Is There a GPA Cutoff at Blue Cross NC?

None is published. The 2026 posting we read listed class year, residency and skills, but no GPA. The rule that's more likely to screen you out is North Carolina residency during the program, so out-of-state students should check it the day the 2027 postings appear. Blue Cross NC also asks candidates not to use AI tools to generate interview answers unless it authorizes them.

What Skills Does Blue Cross NC Look For, and How Do You Build Them?

Blue Cross NC's 2026 Beyond Blue posting asked for curiosity, drive, independent and team work, time management and communication, with bonus points for social media engagement, community engagement and public health interest. Its duties were market research, data analysis, program data management and initiative design. The student page lists IT, data and analytics, finance, health care, HR, sales and marketing, strategy and operations as areas. Other 2026 role texts aren't recoverable, because closed postings come down from the board.

Note: No skills chart yet: Blue Cross NC had no student internship posted on October 5, 2026, and only one 2026 posting could be read in full, too few to chart. We'll add the chart when the summer 2027 roles post in February 2027.

What Is the Blue Cross NC Application and Interview Process Like?

1. Apply in February. Summer internship applications are taken in February 2027.

2. Application review. Applications are reviewed as they're submitted; after the window closes, Blue Cross NC tells you if you're selected for an interview.

3. Initial interview. A 30-minute virtual interview with a member of the Early Career Talent Programs team.

4. Final interview. A 45-minute virtual interview with the hiring manager and potential teammates.

What Interns and Applicants Say

Reddit has only one useful Blue Cross NC internship thread, so two cards come from interns' own accounts published by Blue Cross NC.

A UNC Charlotte student invited to a software intern interview with Blue Cross in North Carolina in February 2025 asked how it worked. Another candidate interviewing that month suggested polishing the resume, preparing four or five behavioral questions with STAR, and building stories from the posting's tools.

How Do You Stand Out for a Blue Cross NC Internship?

Three moves. First, be ready before February. With a month-long window and review as applications arrive, a finished resume and a target role list by mid-January matter more than anything you write in the application. Second, show a project. Blue Cross NC's interns work on hands-on projects from week one, so a finished data, operations or community project gives your interviewers something concrete to ask about. Third, connect to the mission. Blue Cross NC calls itself not-for-profit and "people first," and its Beyond Blue Centers work on food access, care access and youth mental health; tie your story to that. Blue Cross NC doesn't publish class size, applicant numbers or a conversion rate.

FAQ

Can I still apply for a summer 2026 Blue Cross NC internship?

No. Summer 2026 ran May 18 to July 24, 2026, and its January 2026 window closed long ago. The next door is summer 2027: Blue Cross NC says applications open in February 2027, with interviews February to April and the program from May 17 to July 23, 2027.

When do Blue Cross NC summer 2027 internship applications open?

In February 2027, according to Blue Cross NC's student page. The exact open and close days aren't published. The month has shifted before, from February in 2024 to January for summer 2026, so check the Workday board from mid-January 2027 and apply in the first days it opens.

Can I apply to Blue Cross NC now, in fall 2026?

Not for a student internship. On October 5, 2026 Blue Cross NC's job board had no student internship posted. Its only intern-titled posting is a SkillBridge role open to active-duty US military members, which isn't a student program. Join the talent community instead and prepare for February.

How much do Blue Cross NC interns make?

Blue Cross NC's 2026 posting paid $20 an hour for rising sophomores, $22 for rising juniors and seniors, $29 for master's and JD students, and $36 for MBA and PharmD students, full-time for 10 weeks. Rates for 2027 will appear in the February 2027 postings.

Is the Blue Cross NC internship remote?

It's hybrid. Interns work remotely and meet in person for events at the Durham headquarters. The 2026 posting required interns to live in North Carolina for the whole program, so out-of-state students should check that rule when the summer 2027 postings go up in February.

What is the Blue Cross NC interview process?

After the February window closes, selected applicants get a 30-minute virtual interview with the Early Career Talent Programs team, then a 45-minute virtual final with the hiring manager and potential teammates. Blue Cross NC asks candidates not to use AI tools to generate interview answers unless authorized.

Does Blue Cross NC have pharmacy or nursing internships?

No separate student pharmacy or nursing internship was found. PharmD students appear in the summer program's pay table at $36 an hour, so they apply in the same February window. Blue Cross NC also runs a pharmacy residency, which is a post-graduate program, not an internship.

Do Blue Cross NC interns get full-time offers?

Some do. Blue Cross NC's blog features former interns now working as a program manager and an enterprise business analyst associate, but it doesn't publish a conversion rate. The program has run since 2005 and pairs every intern with a mentor.

Blue Cross NC's summer 2027 window opens in February 2027. Use the time before it to build a finished project: a remote Externship that starts now ends before the window opens.
