Last updated: October 2026
The Barclays Discovery Program is a virtual insight program for US college sophomores of any major who are interested in a career in financial services. Nothing is posted for the fall 2026 US edition yet (as of October 16, 2026), but it's expected to open between October and November 2026, based on last fall's cycle, which had a November 7, 2025 deadline. That projection rests on one cycle, so register with the Barclays talent community now and check the Discovery page weekly. This page covers the US edition; the UK programme is separate.
Quick Facts

| Next US edition (fall 2026) | Expected to open October to November 2026, based on the fall 2025 cycle. No posting live as of October 16, 2026 |
| Last US cycle (fall 2025) | Deadline Friday, November 7, 2025; Part 1 on November 18, 2025; Part 2 in the first two weeks of December |
| Who can apply | Sophomores of any major; the fall 2025 edition asked for graduation between December 2027 and June 2028 |
| GPA | 3.2 or above (fall 2025 US edition) |
| Format | Virtual, two parts, both mandatory (fall 2025) |

| What it leads to | Barclays says participants may be considered for an internship |
| UK edition | Separate programme with its own dates; the 2026 UK Retail Banking Analyst Discovery Programme ran virtually April 15 to 16, 2026 |
The key detail most applicants miss: the last US edition was two parts, and you had to attend both. Part 1 was November 18, 2025, and Part 2 ran in the first two weeks of December.
Barclays asks for a keen interest in financial services, and a sophomore resume usually needs something to back that up. A remote Externship like the Attronica Financial Planning & Analysis and Private Company Valuation Externship gives you a real finance project to mention in your Discovery application this fall.
What Is the Barclays Discovery Program?
The Discovery Program is Barclays' insight program for students early in college, with separate editions for the UK, the Americas and Asia Pacific on the same careers page. The fall 2025 US edition ran virtually in two parts. In Part 1, students learned about Barclays, its culture and how it serves clients through technical, soft-skills and networking workshops. Part 2 focused on professional development and the next steps toward a Barclays career. The US format has changed over time: in 2023 it was branded the Discovery Diversity Programme for students from underrepresented groups and ran as a two-day program in April, with two internship interviews on the second day.

Who Can Apply to the Barclays Discovery Program?
The fall 2025 US posting set these requirements:
• Class year: sophomores graduating between December 2027 and June 2028
• Major: any degree
• GPA: 3.2 or above
• Interest: a keen interest in financial services and client-facing careers
• Identity: no identity criterion in the fall 2025 posting, unlike the 2023 Discovery Diversity Programme
If the graduation window moves forward a year, the fall 2026 edition would target students graduating around December 2028 to June 2029, which means sophomores this fall. Check the posting to confirm, and to see whether the 3.2 GPA floor carries over. The UK edition targets students two years from graduation, and Barclays doesn't sponsor visas to attend it.
When Does the Barclays Discovery Program Open for Fall 2026?
These dates are projected from one fall cycle, so treat them loosely. The fall 2025 US edition closed Friday, November 7, 2025, with Part 1 on November 18 and Part 2 in early December. Earlier US editions ran in spring instead (April 2023), so Barclays could move the timing again. As of October 16, 2026, the US job link on the Discovery page says the post no longer exists, and a search of Barclays' careers site shows no Discovery Program posting.

Expected opening for the fall 2026 US edition, based on the fall 2025 cycle. Last fall's opening date wasn't published, so check weekly.
Expected deadline, based on the November 7, 2025 deadline last fall.
Expected two-part virtual program. Last year Part 1 was November 18 and Part 2 ran in the first two weeks of December, and both were mandatory.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and the employer's own postings. Treat future dates as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The program's official page is always the most current source. If it's posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
How Do You Apply to the Barclays Discovery Program?
Barclays only considers candidates who apply through its own careers site:
1. Go to search.jobs.barclays/discovery and register interest through the talent community link so you hear when applications open.
2. When the US Discovery Program posting goes live, apply to that specific posting on search.jobs.barclays.
3. Check the posted dates before you submit. In fall 2025 you had to attend both parts to take part.
4. Barclays hasn't published the selection steps for the US edition, so have your resume ready and expect application questions.
If you're outside the US, apply to your own region's edition. The UK programme has its own posting, timing and eligibility.
Does the Barclays Discovery Program Lead to an Internship?
It can. Barclays says participants of the Discovery Programme "may be considered" for an internship, which isn't a guarantee. Its page still mentions a 2027 internship, which looks stale for the next US cohort, so read the fall 2026 posting for the internship year it applies to. Earlier US editions were more direct: in 2023, students could be assessed for the summer internship through two interviews on day two. For Barclays' summer analyst timeline, see our Barclays internship guide.
How Do You Prepare for the Barclays Discovery Program?
Barclays sets a 3.2 GPA floor and asks for a keen interest in financial services. As a sophomore, the hard part is showing that interest with something more than a club membership. Here's what to build.
| What to show | Why it matters here | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| Hands-on finance work | Barclays asks for a keen interest in financial services, and a finished analysis project proves it | Attronica FP&A and Private Company Valuation |
| Thinking like a client-facing banker | The program targets client-facing careers, which start with evaluating companies and pitching ideas | Mangusta Capital Deal Sourcing & Startup Analysis |
| Turning data into a recommendation | Workshops cover technical and soft skills; presenting numbers clearly is both | Breaking Games E-Commerce Data Analysis & Strategy |
Block the program dates as soon as they're posted. With both parts mandatory, a clash with exams can cost you the spot.

FAQ
When does the Barclays Discovery Program open for fall 2026?
Barclays hasn't posted it yet. The fall 2026 US edition is expected to open between October and November 2026, based on the fall 2025 cycle, which closed November 7, 2025. That rests on one cycle, and earlier editions ran in spring, so register with the talent community and check the Discovery page weekly.
Who is eligible for the Barclays US Discovery Program?
Sophomores of any major. The fall 2025 edition asked for students graduating between December 2027 and June 2028 with a GPA of 3.2 or above and a keen interest in financial services. If the window moves forward a year, the fall 2026 edition would target December 2028 to June 2029 graduates.
Is the Barclays Discovery Program paid?
No compensation is mentioned. It's a short insight program, not an internship, and Barclays didn't publish any stipend for the fall 2025 US edition, which ran virtually in two parts. What you get instead is time with Barclays people and a possible route to being considered for an internship.
Is the Discovery Program virtual?
The fall 2025 US edition was virtual and ran in two parts: Part 1 on November 18, 2025 and Part 2 on several dates in the first two weeks of December. Attendance at both parts was mandatory. Earlier US editions, such as April 2023, ran as two-day programs.
Does the Barclays Discovery Program lead to an internship?
It can, but it isn't guaranteed. Barclays says participants may be considered for an internship. In 2023, the US edition included two summer internship interviews on day two, but the fall 2025 posting doesn't describe interviews. Check the fall 2026 posting for what it offers.
Is the UK Discovery Programme the same as the US one?
No. The UK programme is a separate edition with its own posting, dates and rules. The 2026 UK Retail Banking Analyst Discovery Programme ran virtually April 15 to 16, 2026, with a March 2, 2026 deadline, and targeted students two years from graduation. Barclays doesn't sponsor visas to attend it.
What GPA do you need for Barclays Discovery?
The fall 2025 US edition required a GPA of 3.2 or above. Barclays hasn't confirmed whether that floor carries over to fall 2026, so check the new posting when it goes live. Any major can apply, and the fall 2025 edition was open to sophomores graduating between December 2027 and June 2028.
The fall 2026 window is expected to open any week now and may close by early November. Register with the talent community today, and if your resume needs a finance project first, a remote Externship is a fast way to add one.
