AMETEK doesn't run one internship program. It runs dozens of small ones. The company has 21,000 colleagues across about 150 operating locations, and each business unit posts its own interns on a single board, jobs.ametek.com. On 6 October 2026 that board held 9 US intern or co-op roles, and the first two summer 2027 roles had just appeared: an Electrical Engineering Co-op and a Mechanical Engineering Co-op for summer 2027 at the Bison unit in Kent, Ohio, posted 5 October.
In plain words: applications for summer 2027 have started, unit by unit, earlier than last cycle, when dated summer roles posted from December 2025 to April 2026. More units are expected to post through about April 2027, and you intern in summer 2027. If you're an engineering student who fits the Bison co-ops, you're on time now; everyone else should keep checking weekly. Spring 2027 co-ops and fall or rolling roles are also open. AMETEK makes electronic instruments and electromechanical devices, from high-speed cameras to aerospace power systems.

What Is an AMETEK Internship?
An AMETEK internship is a paid, hands-on role inside one of AMETEK's operating units, each of which works like a small company with its own products and hiring manager. AMETEK's careers page describes 21,000 colleagues, about 150 operating locations in 31 countries and 175 brands, and says college students can join paid apprenticeship and internship programs. In practice that means a Python intern writes image-analysis tools for Phantom high-speed cameras, a design intern probes CMOS sensor wafers at Forza Silicon, and an operational excellence intern runs Kaizen events at a plant in Aurora, Illinois. There's no central summer class, intern cohort or single deadline. For graduates, AMETEK runs an Engineering Management Program that rotates engineers through different AMETEK businesses and a three-year Financial Management Program.

When Do AMETEK Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
AMETEK doesn't open a summer window all at once. Each unit posts its own summer interns when it's ready, and last cycle's dated summer roles appeared from December 2025 (a product management intern created on 4 December) through April 2026 (an IT helpdesk intern dated 7 April). That puts the lead time at roughly 2 to 6 months before a May or June start, far shorter than most manufacturers. So applications for summer 2027 are expected from about December 2026 through April 2027, and this projection rests on a small set of dated reqs, so treat it as a rough guide. This cycle is already running earlier: the Bison unit in Kent, Ohio posted Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Co-ops for summer 2027 (and two for spring 2027) on 5 October 2026, about two months ahead of last cycle's first dated summer role.
Applications for summer 2027 have started: Bison in Kent, OH posted Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Co-ops for summer 2027 on 5 October 2026, plus two spring 2027 co-ops. Five off-cycle US roles are also live: an AI automation intern in Orange, CA, a design intern at Forza Silicon, a Python intern at Phantom High-Speed, a fall operational excellence intern in Aurora, IL and a CNC co-op in Keene, NH.
Apply to the Bison summer 2027 co-ops if you're an engineering student with sophomore standing and a 3.0 GPA, set a search alert on jobs.ametek.com, and apply to any other role that fits. A Woodstock, NY manufacturing engineering co-op that was live on 28 September had closed by 3 October, so these go quickly.
Most other units' applications for summer 2027 are expected to appear unit by unit in this stretch, as last cycle. Each one is a single role at a single site, so check the board every week and apply the week a matching role posts.
Interviews and offers, run by each unit. One applicant reported an AMETEK offer that had to be accepted the next day, so have your other options mapped out.
Summer internships at the unit you join, typically May or June to August. Strong interns may come back for a different role, but AMETEK doesn't publish a conversion rate.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
AMETEK's summer roles are rolling, and each one is tiny: one req, one unit, often one seat. There's no class to fill and no second wave to wait for, so once a hiring manager finds the intern they want, the req comes down. The board already showed this in the past week, when the Woodstock manufacturing engineering co-op closed five days after we first saw it. Because roles appear one at a time, and the first summer 2027 roles already posted on 5 October, the practical move is a weekly check of jobs.ametek.com from now on, with your resume ready to send the same week a matching role posts. Waiting for a published deadline means waiting for something AMETEK never posts.
Which AMETEK Internship Programs Should You Target?
These are the five off-cycle US student roles live on 3 October 2026. The first summer 2027 roles, Bison's Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Co-ops in Kent, Ohio (posted 5 October), look the same: each tied to one unit and one site.
| Role | Unit and focus | Where | Posted pay (annualized, hourly role) |
|---|---|---|---|
| AI Automation Intern | AMETEK IntelliPower: machine learning for magnetics design, automating firmware calibration in C | Orange and Irvine, CA | $50,000 to $60,000 |
| Intern, Integrated Product Services Design | Forza Silicon: CMOS sensor design, test and wafer probing in a cleanroom | Pasadena, CA | $60,000 to $80,000 |
| Intern, Junior Python Developer | Phantom High-Speed: Python modules for high-speed camera image analysis | Wayne, NJ | $80,000 to $90,000 |
| Operational Excellence Fall Intern | Lean manufacturing: 5S, 3P, Kaizen, value stream maps, time studies | Aurora, IL | $40,000 to $45,000 |
| Co-Op CNC Lathe Operator | Ultra-precision machining: CNC setup, blueprint reading, metrology | Keene, NH | $40,000 to $50,000 |

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
Each AMETEK unit writes its own requirements. Across the live reqs:
• Degree: currently pursuing a degree in the req's field: engineering, data science or computer science for the technical roles; industrial engineering, operations or business for operational excellence; manufacturing technology or precision machining for the CNC co-op.
• Class standing: the Phantom Python role prefers senior undergraduate or graduate standing; the others don't state one.
• Citizenship and export control: the Phantom role says "US Citizenship preferred", and last week's Rotron aerospace co-op required authorization to access export-controlled information.
• GPA: none of the five live reqs states a GPA; the closed Rotron co-op preferred a 3.0.
• Work model: every role is on site; the Orange role requires commuting between the Orange and Irvine offices.

Can International Students Get an AMETEK Internship?
Sometimes, and it depends on the unit. The live reqs don't include a blanket no-sponsorship line, but aerospace and defense units handle export-controlled work, and those roles can require U.S.-person status. The Phantom imaging role prefers U.S. citizens without requiring it. Read the unit's requirements before applying, and ask the recruiter directly if the req is silent.
What Skills Does AMETEK Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
Because each unit hires for its own work, AMETEK's reqs vary more than most. Code and electronics: Python, C and Verilog, plus oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers and wafer probers at the imaging and sensor units. Lean manufacturing: 5S, Kaizen, value stream mapping and time studies in the plant roles. Self-direction: almost every req asks for someone motivated, independent and able to present results, which fits small units where an intern often owns a project end to end.

vs 207 in August
Most engineering employers are hiring for summer 2027 right now, so apply to them this fall and watch AMETEK's units, whose summer 2027 roles started posting in October and keep coming through about April.
Daily US job-posting counts, Sep 1–30 vs Aug 1–31, 2026. Covers under half of US postings; shows direction, not market size. Pay = median of employer-published ranges only (87 postings in September, 36 in August).
Build These Skills Before You Apply
AMETEK's live reqs describe projects you can rehearse in a remote Externship while more units post their summer 2027 roles.
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| Firmware & connected devices | AI Automation Intern: "automate the firmware modification and calibration process" in C source files | Hydroficient IoT Cyber Defense |
| Lean & operations analysis | Operational Excellence Fall Intern: "time studies, spaghetti diagrams, and process mapping" | Amazon Fulfillment Center Operational Strategy & People Analytics |
| Data & automation tooling | AI Automation Intern: "Implement AI Agents or other productivity tools that drive simplification, efficiency, and speed" | Wayfair n8n AI Agent Engineering |
For the plant and machining roles, the best proof is hands-on: a machine shop course, a capstone with real measurements, or a Kaizen-style project where you cut waste and can show the numbers.
What Is the AMETEK Application and Interview Process Like?
AMETEK doesn't publish an interview process, and each unit runs its own. Here's what the board and first-hand reports show:
1. Search, then read titles. Searching "intern" on jobs.ametek.com returns hundreds of rows because of words like "internal"; only a handful are internships.
2. Research the unit. Each req names its business (IntelliPower, Forza Silicon, Phantom High-Speed), and the work follows that unit's products.
3. Apply to the single req. There's no general application; each role is its own search.
4. Interview. A Drexel student who got a QA co-op offer described questions on programming experience, teamwork and hobbies.
5. Offer. Decisions can be quick: one applicant in 2025 had a single day to accept an offer from AMETEK's aerospace and defense division.
AMETEK's careers page warns that it never asks candidates to pay or buy equipment, and a Reddit user reported exactly that fake-check scam using AMETEK's name in 2024. Real offers follow a real interview.
What Students on Reddit Say
Reddit has a handful of first-hand AMETEK threads, mostly from co-op students. These three are the most useful.
A Drexel student said their AMETEK QA co-op interview covered the usual ground: programming experience, working in a team, and hobbies. Later in the same thread another student flagged an emailed "offer" with no interview and a promised equipment check as a likely scam.
A student juggling several internship processes got an offer from AMETEK's aerospace and defense division for a manufacturing planning role and had to accept by the next day. A reply suggested that doing well there could lead to a return in a different role.
When a Tennessee supply chain student asked for local internship leads, a commenter pointed to an onsite AMETEK role in Oak Ridge running through the following summer, a sign that some units hire for supply chain as well as engineering.
How Do You Stand Out for an AMETEK Internship?
Three moves. First, apply to the unit, not to AMETEK. Phantom builds high-speed cameras, Forza Silicon designs CMOS image sensors, IntelliPower builds rugged power systems. Most reqs link to the unit's own site, and a cover letter that mentions the unit's products will stand out from generic applications.
Second, check the board on a schedule. Summer roles post one at a time, starting in early October this cycle and running to about April, and a single co-op closed within five days this fall. A weekly check from now on, plus a saved search, is the simplest edge you can get.
Third, show you can own a small project. AMETEK units are lean, and the reqs ask for motivated, independent people who can present results to leaders. One project you scoped, built and presented, with numbers, will do more for you than a long list of coursework.

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2026 AMETEK internship?
No. Summer 2026 is over and those roles have closed. Summer 2027 has started, though: on 5 October 2026 AMETEK's Bison unit in Kent, Ohio posted Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Co-ops for summer 2027, and other units are expected to post through about April 2027. Spring 2027 co-ops and five off-cycle roles in California, New Jersey, Illinois and New Hampshire are open too.
When do AMETEK summer 2027 internships open?
There's no single opening date. Each AMETEK unit posts its own summer interns. The first summer 2027 roles appeared on 5 October 2026 (two Bison engineering co-ops in Kent, Ohio), earlier than last cycle, when dated summer roles ran from December 2025 through April 2026. Check jobs.ametek.com weekly from now on and apply the week a role fits.
What AMETEK internships are open right now?
For summer 2027, as of 6 October 2026: an Electrical Engineering Co-op and a Mechanical Engineering Co-op at Bison in Kent, Ohio. Off-cycle, five US roles on 3 October 2026: an AI Automation Intern at AMETEK IntelliPower in Orange, California; a design intern at Forza Silicon in Pasadena; a Junior Python Developer intern at Phantom High-Speed in Wayne, New Jersey; an Operational Excellence Fall Intern in Aurora, Illinois; and a CNC Lathe co-op in Keene, New Hampshire.
How much do AMETEK interns make?
Each req posts its own range as an annual figure for an hourly role. On the five live US roles it runs from $40,000 to $45,000 for the Aurora operational excellence intern up to $80,000 to $90,000 for the Phantom Python intern. Divided by 2,080 hours, that's roughly $19 to $43 an hour. The summer 2027 Bison co-ops post $35,000 to $55,000, roughly $17 to $26 an hour.
Does AMETEK sponsor visas for interns?
The live reqs don't carry a blanket rule. Aerospace and defense units can require authorization to access export-controlled information, and the Phantom imaging role prefers U.S. citizens. Other units are silent. Read the unit's requirements, and if the req doesn't say, ask the recruiter before you invest in the application.
Why can't I find AMETEK internships when I search "intern"?
The search works, but the keyword also matches words like "internal" and "international", so hundreds of rows come back and only a handful are internships. AMETEK's Internships & Apprenticeships category page has also missed roles before. Search the keyword and scan titles, and save the search as an alert.
Does AMETEK have a rotational program?
For graduates, yes. AMETEK's Engineering Management Program rotates engineers through different AMETEK businesses each year, and its Financial Management Program is a three-year mix of rotational field assignments, classroom training and networking. Internships are the natural way to get to know a unit before applying to either.
Does AMETEK hire interns full time?
AMETEK doesn't publish a conversion rate, and because hiring happens unit by unit there's no company-wide return-offer policy. A one-line reply in a 2026 r/Drexel thread said AMETEK does hire interns full time, and the graduate rotational programs are another route. Treat that as anecdotal and ask your unit directly.
AMETEK's summer 2027 roles started posting on 5 October and will keep arriving one by one through about April. Apply to a live role that fits, and build proof in the meantime, for example with a remote Externship at about 5 to 10 hours a week, so you're ready the week the right unit posts.
