Albertsons Companies is the second-largest supermarket chain in the United States by store count, with 2,200+ stores, 1,732 pharmacies and roughly 290,000 associates across 34 states and D.C., ranking No. 58 on the 2026 Fortune 500. Its 2027 Summer Business Internship at the Jewel-Osco division went live on August 12, 2026, and that program picks about 35 interns from 600+ applicants each year. Technology and engineering postings for summer 2027 are expected between November 2026 and January 2027.

So where does that leave you in September 2026? Ahead of the curve, if you move now. You apply in fall 2026, you intern in summer 2027.

The Jewel-Osco 2027 Summer Business Internship is open now with no published close date, so apply in September 2026. Technology and corporate Boise roles are expected to post Nov 2026 to Jan 2027, The United Family subsidiary program closes March 15, 2027, and pharmacy student intern roles run year-round.

Albertsons' business internship is built around store operations, staffing and a group project on a real company problem. While your application sits in the Oracle HCM queue, build the operations evidence they'll ask about with the Amazon Fulfillment Center Operational Strategy & People Analytics Externship, or sharpen the data skills the tech and supply chain tracks want with the Breaking Games E-Commerce Data Analysis Strategy Externship. Both are short remote Externships you can finish before interviews start. Explore all Externships.

What Is an Albertsons Internship?

An Albertsons internship is a paid, 10 to 12 week summer placement at one of the country's largest grocery operators, with five distinct entry points. The Jewel-Osco Summer Business Internship puts you inside daily store operations for 10 weeks, with a leadership development class, a distribution center visit, a district manager ride-along and an executive presentation at the end. The Technology & Engineering track hosted 16 interns in summer 2024 working on generative AI, payment systems and merchandised search, supported by 4 program leads and 15 mentors. The Boise headquarters runs its own corporate summer class, The United Family subsidiary in Texas runs a 12-week program across 11 functional tracks, and pharmacy students can join in-store placements year-round.

And while Albertsons isn't an Extern partner, its hiring criteria map cleanly onto skills you can build before you apply.

When Do Albertsons Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?

Albertsons doesn't run a single campus calendar. Store-side business internships post in late summer, corporate technology roles historically appear in late fall and early winter, and the Texas subsidiary keeps a fixed March deadline.

So here's how the summer 2027 cycle lines up from where you're standing in September 2026.

Now · September 2026YOU ARE HERE

The 2027 Summer Business Internship (Jewel-Osco, Itasca IL, Job ID 751321) has been live since August 12, 2026 with no published close date. Apply this month while the applicant pool is still filling, and join the Talent Community so the tech postings reach your inbox the day they go up.

Nov 2026 – Jan 2027EXPECTED

Expected posting window for Technology & Engineering internships (Boise and Pleasanton) and Corporate Summer roles at Boise HQ, based on prior cycles. These fill through the Oracle HCM portal, not campus recruiting, which accounts for only about 1% of Albertsons hires per Glassdoor.

Mar 15, 2027

Expected application deadline for The United Family Summer Internship (Lubbock TX). Email a resume, unofficial transcript and a 500-word essay to careers@unitedtexas.com; the program has 11 tracks from Marketing to Supply Chain.

Apr – May 2027

Offer decisions expected to finalize across tracks. United Family notifies applicants by May 2. Glassdoor reports an average 14 days from interview to hire, so most business and tech candidates hear back quickly once interviews start.

May – Aug 2027

Summer programs run. Jewel-Osco is 10 weeks at 40 hours a week; technology, corporate and United Family placements run roughly 12 weeks. High-performing business interns may be offered Store Management Trainee roles at the end.

How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.

Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open

The Jewel-Osco posting has no published close date. Sounds relaxed? Remember the math: about 35 seats and 600+ applicants in a typical year. With no deadline to anchor the review, recruiters read applications as they arrive and schedule interviews on a 14-day average clock, so applying in September 2026 puts you in the first wave of reads.

But The United Family track is the opposite case, a hard March 15, 2027 cutoff with notifications by May 2. That one you can plan around, as long as the 500-word essay is drafted well before spring.

Which Albertsons Internship Programs Should You Target?

Albertsons runs five documented intern tracks across its corporate offices, its Jewel-Osco division and its Texas subsidiary.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

Requirements vary by track, and most of them are more open than a Fortune 500 name suggests.

Class year: Sophomore or junior standing at a 4-year college for the Jewel-Osco Summer Business Internship; undergraduate or graduate for technology and corporate roles; enrolled students or recent graduates for United Family

Major: Open to all majors for the business track; Computer Science, Data Science, CS & Economics or related for technology (based on the 2024 cohort profile)

GPA: No published GPA requirement for any track; pharmacy placements may carry school-specific requirements

Pharmacy: Must be actively enrolled in an accredited school of pharmacy, with state licensure or registration requirements that vary by location

United Family documents: Resume, unofficial transcript and a 500-word essay, submitted by email by March 15

Work authorization: 18+ and legally authorized to work in the US; visa sponsorship isn't advertised for intern roles

Do You Need a Business Degree for the Jewel-Osco Track?

No. The official posting says the program is open to all majors and asks for leadership potential, adaptability in a fast-paced environment, communication and teamwork skills, and an interest in retail or operations careers. That list is about evidence, not coursework.

So a history major who ran a campus organization's budget and scheduled 20 volunteers has exactly what the posting describes, as long as the resume says so in those terms.

What Skills Does Albertsons Look For, and How Do You Build Them?

We inspected the four track descriptions in the research file: the Jewel-Osco Summer Business posting, the 2024 Technology & Engineering cohort announcement, the United Family program page and a former Supply Chain Analytics intern's published account. What shows up most? Leadership and communication in every non-technical track, and Python, SQL and data visualization across the technology and supply chain descriptions.

And nothing in the business posting mentions a specific software tool, which tells you the store track is judged on behavior, not software.

What Is the Albertsons Application and Interview Process Like?

Albertsons hires through its own portal, and the process is short by Fortune 500 standards: Glassdoor rates interview difficulty 2.1 out of 5 with a 14-day average from interview to offer.

1. Create an account on the Albertsons Companies Oracle HCM careers portal and join the Talent Community for posting alerts.

2. Search "intern" or "student" and filter by category (Retail/Store Ops, Technology, Pharmacy) and location. For United Family, email your resume, transcript and 500-word essay to careers@unitedtexas.com instead.

3. Submit your resume and any required documents. 62% of successful hires applied online; campus recruiting accounts for about 1%, so the portal is the main door.

4. Complete pre-screening if asked. A minority of applicants report a skills test (13%), drug test (17%) or background check (14%).

5. Recruiter phone or video screen, reported by 11% of applicants, followed by a one-on-one interview with the hiring manager (26%), the most common format.

6. Receive your offer. Average time from interview to hire is 14 days; United Family notifies by May 2.

But don't let the low difficulty score fool you. Interviews lean behavioral, so bring STAR stories about leading a team, handling a rush, and using data to make a call. The full interview statistics are on Glassdoor's Albertsons interview page.

What Students on Reddit Say

And on Reddit, Albertsons comes up less as a dream employer and more as a pleasant surprise, especially among CS students who didn't expect a grocer to pay for tech talent.

CS students were surprised to find Albertsons listed with competitive tech intern pay on a salary-comparison site, and the thread turned into a discussion of grocery technology as an underrated career path.

A first-year pharmacy student weighed CVS against Albertsons for an internship, and replies compared workflow pace, mentorship and pay between the two chains rather than declaring a clear winner.

An applicant asked how long an Albertsons application stays "under consideration," and the consensus was that wait times vary widely by store and role, so following up is reasonable.

How Do You Stand Out at Albertsons?

First, show you understand grocery from farm to shelf. Albertsons feeds 2,200+ stores from 22 distribution centers and 19 manufacturing plants, and grocery runs on thin margins where perishables and inventory turns decide the quarter. Mention a specific initiative, its enterprise cloud migration, its generative AI projects or its 49.8 million loyalty members, so you sound like someone who read past the careers page.

Second, lead with data even for store roles. The business track ends in a group project on a real company problem, and the United Family supply chain track names Python and Power BI outright. Bring one example of using SQL, Python or a spreadsheet to answer a real question, even a class project on USDA food price data.

Third, connect to the mission. Albertsons put $435 million into food and financial support in 2024, including $40 million through Nourishing Neighbors. If you've worked a food bank shift or organized a campus food drive, put it near the top of your resume.

Why does that last one matter so much? Because with roughly 35 Jewel-Osco seats for 600+ applicants, fit is what separates similar resumes.

What Other Companies Should You Consider?

And Albertsons isn't the only option. It competes for retail, supply chain and technology interns with the other big grocers and mass merchants, most of which recruit on similar late-summer to winter calendars.

FAQ

Can I still apply for a summer 2026 Albertsons internship?

No. The 2026 summer intern class was welcomed to Boise headquarters in June 2026 and those programs have ended. Current postings target summer 2027, starting with the Jewel-Osco Summer Business Internship that went live on August 12, 2026. Pharmacy Student Intern roles are the exception, since they're posted year-round.

When do Albertsons internship applications open for summer 2027?

They're partly open already. The Jewel-Osco 2027 Summer Business Internship posted on August 12, 2026 with no published close date. Technology and engineering postings are expected between November 2026 and January 2027 based on prior cycles, and The United Family subsidiary accepts applications until March 15, 2027.

How much do Albertsons interns get paid?

It depends on the track. The 2027 Summer Business Internship pays $17.50 per hour per the official posting. Pharmacy student interns average $21.05 per hour nationally, with $28.50 to $33.50 in California. Technology interns earn roughly $35 per hour according to three Glassdoor reports, so treat that figure as an estimate.

Does Albertsons sponsor visas for interns?

Not that it advertises. Intern postings require legal authorization to work in the US and don't mention sponsorship. International students should confirm with the recruiting team (1-888-255-2269, option 4) before applying and check CPT eligibility with their school's international office rather than assuming either way.

How competitive is the Albertsons internship?

The Jewel-Osco Summer Business Internship selects about 35 interns from more than 600 applicants, roughly 6 percent. The technology program hosted 16 interns in summer 2024. Corporate selectivity isn't published, but it's a Fortune 500 name with a small intern class, so expect real competition for every seat.

Where are Albertsons internships located?

Corporate and technology roles sit at headquarters in Boise, Idaho, and the technology hub in Pleasanton, California. The Summer Business Internship runs through Jewel-Osco in Itasca, Illinois. The United Family program is based in Lubbock, Texas, and pharmacy placements exist at stores across 34 states and Washington, D.C.

What is the Albertsons interview process like?

Short and mostly behavioral. The most common path is an online application, an optional recruiter phone screen, then a one-on-one interview with the hiring manager. Glassdoor rates difficulty 2.1 out of 5, 62 percent of candidates call the experience positive, and the average time from interview to hire is 14 days.

What skills does Albertsons look for in interns?

Leadership potential, communication, customer focus and adaptability for business and retail tracks. Technology interns need Python, Java or SQL plus exposure to data science, cloud or AI. Supply chain roles value analytics tools like Power BI. Every track rewards a genuine interest in food retail and the company's community work.

The Jewel-Osco posting is open and the tech postings are two months out. What do you do with the wait?

So the order is simple: apply now, then build something you can talk about. A short remote Externship gives you a real operations or data project for the interview, which is exactly what a 600-applicant pool rewards. Explore all Externships.
