Last updated: October 2026
Acuity Insurance's summer 2027 internships are open now, and they opened early. Acuity posted its first summer 2027 internship on August 21, 2026, and on October 5 its job board carried five internships, each marked "Start Date: Summer 2027". In plain words: you apply during fall 2026, you intern in summer 2027.
Four of the five are at Acuity's headquarters in Sheboygan, Wisconsin: Actuarial, Data Analytics (Data Science), Strategic Information and Claims. The fifth, Insurance Customer Service, is fully remote on weekday evenings. None of the postings states a deadline or a pay rate. Two rules apply to every role: Acuity includes at least one in-person interview in its hiring process, and it doesn't sponsor U.S. work authorization.
What Is an Acuity Insurance Internship?
An Acuity Insurance internship is a paid summer role at Acuity, A Mutual Insurance Company, a property and casualty insurer headquartered in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Interns join a department such as actuarial, data analytics, strategic information or claims and do the department's real work, from rate change support to investigating auto damage claims. Acuity's company profile says it has been in business since 1925, sells in more than 30 states and insures over 125,000 businesses and nearly half a million homes and private passenger autos. It calls itself the only commercial regional insurer rated A+ by both AM Best and Standard & Poor's. It's unrelated to Acuity Brands, Acuity Scheduling or the accounting firm Acuity Advisors.

When Do Acuity Insurance Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
Acuity's summer 2027 wave opened in late summer: the Claims internship was posted August 21, 2026, Data Analytics and Strategic Information on August 28, and Actuarial and Insurance Customer Service on September 14. That's about nine to ten months before a summer 2027 start. Last cycle, Acuity was promoting summer 2026 internships such as Business Systems and Commercial Underwriting on LinkedIn by mid-September 2025, so the calendar looks similar and may have moved a few weeks earlier. Neither of those two tracks was posted for summer 2027 on October 5 (low confidence that they will). Applications for summer 2028 are expected around late August to September 2027.
Applications for summer 2027 are open right now: Actuarial, Data Analytics (Data Science), Strategic Information and Claims in Sheboygan, plus a remote evening Insurance Customer Service internship.
No posting states a deadline, so expect Acuity to review applications as they arrive. Apply in the fall so your application is in the pile before interviews begin.
Other tracks may post. Acuity promoted Business Systems and Commercial Underwriting internships for summer 2026; neither was live for summer 2027 on October 5, so check the board again in November.
Interviews. The Customer Service posting says interviews start in early 2027, and every Acuity posting says the process includes at least one in-person interview, which for the headquarters roles means Sheboygan.
The internship itself, paid hourly with a 401(k) contribution and vision insurance. Acuity doesn't publish the length or a return-offer rate; summer 2028 internships are expected to post around late August to September 2027.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
Acuity's postings don't carry a deadline, so the board looks patient. It isn't a reason to wait. Acuity posted its summer 2027 roles in late August and mid-September, earlier than many insurers, and each track is a single posting for a small team: one actuarial internship, one claims internship, one data analytics internship. When interviews start, the hiring team works from the applications it already has. The Customer Service posting puts interviews in early 2027, and the headquarters roles require an in-person interview in Sheboygan, which takes time to schedule. Applying in October puts you in the first group they call.
Which Acuity Insurance Internship Programs Should You Target?
Acuity posted five summer 2027 internships. Four sit at headquarters; one is remote.
| Internship | What you'd do | Location | Who it's for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Actuarial Intern | Support rate change procedures, prepare reports and improve processes in the Actuarial Department | Sheboygan, WI | Math or actuarial science majors with progress toward an actuarial exam |
| Data Analytics Intern (Data Science) | Analytic insights and visualization using mathematical models, algorithms and machine learning | Sheboygan, WI | Math, actuarial science or related majors |
| Strategic Information Intern | Build reports and dashboards for business unit insights and performance monitoring | Sheboygan, WI | Math, actuarial science or related majors |
| Claims Intern | Investigate auto physical damage and basic liability claims, evaluate coverage, set reserves, negotiate settlements | Sheboygan, WI | Four-year college students, business majors preferred; December 2027 or May 2028 graduates preferred |
| Insurance Customer Service Intern | Answer after-hours calls, enter new losses, process payments and index documents | Remote, 5 to 10 p.m. Central on weekdays | Prior customer service experience required |

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
Acuity's five postings set these requirements:
• Enrollment: currently enrolled in an undergraduate program; the claims posting asks for students pursuing a four-year degree.
• Major: mathematics or actuarial science for actuarial; math, actuarial science or a related field for data analytics and strategic information; a business major is preferred for claims.
• Grades and exams: the actuarial and analytics postings ask for a "high level of achievement, including academic grades" without a GPA number; actuarial also asks for progress toward an actuarial exam.
• Graduation: the claims posting prefers December 2027 or May 2028 graduates.
• Work authorization: every posting says Acuity "does not sponsor applicants for U.S. work authorization."

Does Acuity Insurance Have a GPA Cutoff?
Not a published one. The actuarial, data analytics and strategic information postings ask for a high level of academic achievement but name no number, and the claims posting doesn't mention grades at all. Treat strong grades as expected for the math-heavy roles and lead with exam progress if you have it. The firmer rules are the in-person interview, which every posting mentions, and the no-sponsorship line.

What Skills Does Acuity Insurance Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
Three of Acuity's postings share one template. Actuarial, data analytics and strategic information interns research and collect data, summarize findings with the right level of detail, and need math, analytical and problem-solving skills plus clear writing. Data analytics adds models, algorithms and machine learning; strategic information adds reports and dashboards. Claims is a different job: coverage analysis, liability evaluation, reserves, recorded statements and fraud referrals. None of the five postings names a software tool.

Build These Skills Before You Apply
Each Acuity Insurance skill maps to a remote Externship that gives you a finished project to discuss in your in-person interview.
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| Reports and dashboards | Strategic Information: "developing relevant reports and dashboards to drive business unit insights" | TruBridge Healthcare Data Analytics |

What Is the Acuity Insurance Application and Interview Process Like?
Acuity doesn't publish a step-by-step intern process, but its postings set out the main points:
1. Apply on the job board. Submit an application for each internship on Acuity's UKG board.
2. Talent Acquisition review. Acuity's Talent Acquisition team handles applications and accommodation requests.
3. Interviews. Acuity says it "will include at least one in-person interview during the hiring process for all positions"; for headquarters roles, plan on Sheboygan.
4. Timing. The Customer Service posting says interviews start in early 2027; other postings don't give dates.
5. Offer. Paid hourly, with a 401(k) contribution, vision insurance and an Employee Assistance Program for interns.

What the Community Says
No Reddit thread discusses Acuity's internship, and many "Acuity" threads are about other companies. These two give context on Sheboygan and on Acuity's entry-level hiring.
Wisconsin locals described Sheboygan as affordable and family-friendly, about an hour from Milwaukee, and named Acuity among its large employers alongside Kohler and Sargento.
A risk management and insurance graduate chasing underwriting trainee roles was told Acuity was hiring commercial underwriter trainees, with a mix of in-person and virtual roles posted.
How Do You Stand Out for an Acuity Insurance Internship?
Three moves. First, apply this fall. Each track is a single posting, interviews for at least one start in early 2027, and the roles have been up since August and September. Second, prepare for the room, not just the screen. Every posting promises an in-person interview, so practice explaining one analysis out loud: what data you collected, what you found and how you summarized it, since all three analytics postings ask for exactly that. Third, show exam or claims readiness. Actuarial applicants should list exam progress; claims applicants should show customer service experience and a December 2027 or May 2028 graduation date. Acuity doesn't publish an applicant count or a return-offer rate.

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2026 Acuity Insurance internship?
No. Summer 2026 has already run. The open door is summer 2027: Acuity posted five summer 2027 internships between August 21 and September 14, 2026, and all five were live on October 5. None states a deadline, so apply this fall rather than waiting for interviews to begin.
When do Acuity Insurance summer 2027 applications close?
No posting states a deadline. The Insurance Customer Service posting says interviews start in early 2027, so the safest plan is to apply in October or November 2026. Each internship is a single posting, and Acuity can take it down once the role is filled.
How much do Acuity Insurance interns make?
Acuity doesn't publish an hourly rate. The postings say the internships are paid hourly as non-exempt roles, and interns get a 401(k) contribution, vision insurance and an Employee Assistance Program. Headquarters staff also get free breakfast and lunch on Wednesdays, according to Acuity's culture page.
Which internships does Acuity Insurance offer for summer 2027?
Five so far: Actuarial, Data Analytics (Data Science), Strategic Information and Claims at the Sheboygan, Wisconsin headquarters, plus a fully remote Insurance Customer Service internship on weekday evenings. Acuity hired Business Systems and Commercial Underwriting interns for summer 2026, and those tracks may still post.
Is there a remote Acuity Insurance internship?
Yes. The Insurance Customer Service internship is 100% remote, working 5 to 10 p.m. Central time Monday through Friday, with weekends optional. It requires prior customer service experience and a quiet private workspace with your own internet connection. The other four internships are at headquarters in Sheboygan.
Does Acuity Insurance sponsor visas for interns?
No. Every summer 2027 posting says Acuity doesn't sponsor applicants for U.S. work authorization. International students who would need sponsorship, now or later, should plan around that before applying, and check other insurers' postings for their own sponsorship statements.
Do I have to interview in person at Acuity Insurance?
Yes. Every Acuity posting says the company will include at least one in-person interview during the hiring process for all positions. For the four headquarters internships, expect that interview in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Acuity's Talent Acquisition team handles accommodation requests for interviews.
What GPA do I need for an Acuity Insurance internship?
Acuity doesn't publish a GPA minimum. The actuarial, data analytics and strategic information postings ask for a high level of achievement, including academic grades, and the actuarial role asks for progress toward an actuarial exam. The claims posting doesn't mention grades.
Acuity Insurance's five summer 2027 internships are open now with no stated deadline. Apply this fall, and build a project to talk about in parallel: a remote Externship gives you finished work to explain in Acuity's in-person interview.
