Develop problem-solving skills by analyzing applications of botanical ingredients and market opportunities.

Overview

In this externship program, students will learn strategic consulting skills to analyze and evaluate challenges from non-profit organizations using consulting frameworks, in an overall effort to help them solve their important problems. Selected individuals will be paired with a specific non-profit organization and dive into their strategic problems, such as development, impact assessment, process improvements, talent engagement, communication, and strategic positioning. Throughout this externship program, professionals from PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers) will provide mentorship and coaching.

The Experience

  • Learn about the strategy consulting process and how to help create value for a non-profit client based on their vision and mission
  • Research and develop an understanding of a given field
  • Analyze complex problems ranging from fundraising and development, stakeholder management, impact measurement, as well as use consulting frameworks to help identify problem areas and propose solutions
  • Learn to gather, analyze, and visualize data to inform problem areas and possible solutions
  • Create and deliver a compelling presentation to a non-profit client that incorporates valuable insights, trends, and recommendations

Qualifications

  • Ambitious undergraduate students with an interest in consulting, strategy, and non-profits. This program is for students who would like to understand the consulting profession while generating ideas to help impact non-profit organizations.

From hands-on research with botanical ingredients to product development, we’re taking you out of the textbook and into the world of nutrition and agriculture. Paragon One is collaborating with Cargill Health Technologies to bring you an experiential learning program focused on promoting human and animal health. You will gain research experience while exploring botanical ingredients and their potential for market opportunities. Work alongside 160,000 Cargill employees addressing underlying health challenges through in vitro and in vivo testing. Our program offers you the opportunity to develop your problem-solving skills by working through real-world applications like extracting botanical substances to assess their use in human health supplements to look for products that can make real changes in the health market. This externship is centered around helping you gain research experience in agriculture and nutrition. We’re offering the opportunity to make a difference! But how? Working with a fast-paced team, you will study Cargill’s human portfolio to proactively track opportunities that positively impact human health. But this externship doesn’t just focus on the present; through exploratory assessments, students will work to gather data for future developments in human health products. By analyzing botanicals, from the whole product to extracted ingredients, you’ll work with a team to evaluate scientific and clinical evidence for a market’s potential. You’ll work with products that are currently in the market and analyze the investment activity in the space. Your research will help develop Cargill’s human health portfolio and guide new product development approaches.

Externs Will
  • Familiarize yourself with the terminology, concepts, and background involved in the research of the botanical ingredients space.
  • Research substances and active ingredients extracted from botanicals to identify their applications, claims, and market opportunities.
  • Research clinical trials and scientific discoveries related to substances and active ingredients extracted from botanicals.
  • Identify the market landscape for potential products originated from botanicals, and analyze information about competitor products, brands, companies, etc.
  • Gather information on product/market traction in terms of sales, investment, or R&D efforts.
  • Create an understanding of how a global food enterprise such as Cargill operates regarding product development and R&D.
  • Create and deliver a compelling presentation showcasing insights into the market landscape, and market viability of a chosen botanical ingredient.

Qualifications
  • Ambitious undergraduate and graduate students with a strong interest in food science, agriculture, nutrition, or sustainability. This program is perfect for students who are interested in learning about research & development/product development functions and how to use data to identify viable business opportunities at a global food company.
