In this externship program, students will learn strategic consulting skills to analyze and evaluate challenges from non-profit organizations using consulting frameworks, in an overall effort to help them solve their important problems. Selected individuals will be paired with a specific non-profit organization and dive into their strategic problems, such as development, impact assessment, process improvements, talent engagement, communication, and strategic positioning. Throughout this externship program, professionals from PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers) will provide mentorship and coaching.
In this remote 8-week externship, you will work alongside The Home Depot's Legal team to understand how a large retailer navigates the fast-moving landscape of AI, privacy, and data-use regulation. You will work in one of two research lanes — Surveillance & Algorithmic Pricing or Biometrics & Facial Recognition — both sitting under a shared AI-governance umbrella.
You will develop a consulting-style legal and compliance recommendation for how THD should respond to the state and federal laws most relevant to your lane, analyzing how those laws apply to THD's business practices and translating that analysis into concrete risk and compliance recommendations.
Throughout, you will practice conducting legal research responsibly — verifying sources, cross-referencing authorities, and separating what the law actually says from inference — before delivering an executive presentation that informs THD leadership of the risks, compliance requirements, and reporting obligations these regulations create.
This externship is a strong fit for students interested in law, public policy, compliance, or government affairs, particularly those curious about how emerging technology and AI regulation intersect with business practice. You do not need to be a law student or have formal legal training. Students from any field who are detail-oriented, comfortable with independent research, and want hands-on experience translating statutes into practical business recommendations are encouraged to apply.
