There's no single WNBA internship. The league's 15 teams each hire on their own boards and calendars, and their summer programs open in short windows: Golden State's summer internship (shared by the Warriors and Valkyries) takes applications for just 15 days, 1 to 15 February. For summer 2027, expect most team windows between February and April 2027. In plain words: you apply in early 2027, you intern in summer 2027.
Some WNBA team work is already open. On 2 October 2026 the Washington Mystics had two part-time intern roles live at $18.40 an hour, and Pacers Sports & Entertainment had five intern roles that include Indiana Fever games. League-office interns are a separate route: they're hired through the NBA Summer Internship Program, whose 2027 cycle is due to open later this fall.

Externships are short, remote programs where you finish a real project for a real company, most often over 8 weeks. With summer windows months away, the TikTok Social Media Content & Brand Strategy Externship builds the short-form content work team digital interns do, and the Breaking Games E-Commerce Data Analysis & Strategy Externship practices the revenue and customer data analysis behind ticket sales. What Is a WNBA Internship?
A WNBA internship is usually a placement with one of the league's teams, in ticket sales, partnerships, marketing, digital content, game operations or basketball analytics. Most are on site, many run during the May to September season, and nights and weekends come with the job. Some are paid hourly, and some are for academic credit only.
The league has one program of its own: the WNBA HBCU Event Intern Program presented by Mielle, a week at All-Star for HBCU students. It started with six interns in 2025 and had eight in 2026. Front offices are still being built, too: the WNBA has 15 teams and plans 18 by 2030, with Cleveland, Detroit and Philadelphia joining.

When Do WNBA Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
WNBA teams run short lead times, about 1.5 to 4 months from posting to start, and many run more than one intake a year. In the 2026 cycle, Golden State's window was 1 to 15 February, the Liberty and Sparks summer roles appeared in early February, and the Dallas Wings' eight summer roles were open for about four weeks from early March. So summer 2027 isn't the next door for everyone: part-time in-season terms are open now.
None of the 2027 summer dates are published yet. Every summer window below is expected, projected from the 2026 cycle, and a few dates come from job-board mirrors rather than the teams' own pages.
Some WNBA team roles are open right now: the Mystics' part-time Marketing and Ticket Sales internships ($18.40 an hour), and five Pacers Sports & Entertainment intern roles that include Fever games, for fall 2026 and spring 2027. No team has posted a summer 2027 internship yet.
The NBA's league-office summer 2027 program, which places interns across the NBA and affiliate leagues including the WNBA, is due to open later this fall. Build your team list and portfolio in the same weeks.
Golden State's summer 2027 window is expected to repeat its 1 to 15 February dates. Liberty and Sparks summer roles are expected in early February too. Apply in the first week; two weeks is the whole window.
Dallas Wings summer roles expected around March to April (open about four weeks in 2026), and the Chicago Sky Scholar program around April to May (one prior year, low confidence).
Summer internships run in season; 2027 is the WNBA's first 50-game season. All-Star week in July is when the HBCU Event Intern Program runs, if it continues.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
Team summer programs are short-window hires. Golden State's own page puts its window at 15 days and says it received "thousands of online applications" for 2026. The Dallas Wings' 2026 summer roles were open for about four weeks.
Each team is a separate employer, so there's no single date to watch. In practice you need the list of teams you can live near, each board bookmarked, and a resume ready in January. A reader who waits for a WNBA-wide announcement will miss most of the windows.
Which WNBA Internship Programs Should You Target?
These are the WNBA internship routes we could document, from team boards, job mirrors and league releases:
| Program | Focus | Term and status | Pay |
|---|---|---|---|
| Golden State Summer Internship (Warriors and Valkyries) | Business departments across both teams | Summer; window 1 to 15 Feb (2027 expected) | Not stated |
| Washington Mystics part-time internships | Marketing (30th-anniversary archive), ticket sales | Fall to spring, part-time; open now | $18.40/hr |
| Pacers Sports & Entertainment (Indiana Fever) | Photo, video, digital content, partnerships, game operations | Fall 2026 and spring 2027 terms; open now | Not stated |
| Dallas Wings summer interns | Marketing, social, content, partnerships, ticket sales, community | Summer; ~Mar to Apr window (2027 expected) | Academic credit only (2026) |
| Chicago Sky Scholar Internship | One department, chosen by interest; need-based | 10 weeks, June to mid-August | Paid, amount not stated |
| WNBA HBCU Event Intern Program | All-Star week: shadowing league staff, networking | One week in July | Not stated |
The Liberty (through BSE Global) and Sparks also ran summer programs in 2026, and the Sparks posted an unpaid basketball analytics internship in December 2025. League-office internships sit in the NBA program; see our NBA internship guide.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
Each team sets its own rules. These are the ones written into the postings we read:
• Enrollment: current undergraduate or graduate student (Mystics, Dallas Wings); Pacers Sports & Entertainment asks for juniors, seniors or graduate students.
• Academic credit: required for the Dallas Wings' 2026 summer roles and the Sparks' basketball analytics internship, both unpaid.
• Chicago Sky Scholar (2025): rising juniors or seniors, eligible for need-based aid such as a Pell Grant, minimum 2.5 GPA.
• Availability: nights, weekends and holidays appear in most team postings; the Mystics' ticket sales role asks for at least 20 hours a week.
• Location: on site in the team's market; no team posting we read offered a remote internship.
• Not stated: work authorization or visa sponsorship, in any team posting we read.

Paid or Academic Credit: How Do You Tell?
Read the posting's title and benefits line. The Dallas Wings wrote "College Credit Only" into every 2026 summer title, and the Sparks' analytics posting said it was unpaid and for students receiving credit. The Mystics state $18.40 an hour.
If a posting says credit only, check with your school before you apply that it can grant credit for the term.
What Skills Does the WNBA Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
Across nine team intern postings from 2025 to 2026, the same three things recur: organization under game-day pressure, clear communication, and willingness to work nights and weekends.
The technical layer depends on the role. Content and photo roles want Adobe Photoshop or Premiere and short-form video; the Sparks' analytics intern built statistical player comparisons and cut video breakdowns; ticket sales interns manage a group sales database.
What WNBA looks for in interns
Skills across 9 WNBA intern & analyst job descriptions · team intern postings, 2025 to 2026 (Mystics, Fever via PS&E, Wings, Sky, Sparks)
Method: full-text read of nine team intern postings: Mystics Marketing and Ticket Sales, four Pacers Sports & Entertainment roles that include Fever work, Dallas Wings Marketing, Chicago Sky Scholar and Sparks Basketball Analytics. Skew: four of the nine come from one employer (PS&E), so content and game-day skills are over-represented.
How Is Demand for Marketing and Communications Interns Moving Right Now?
Marketing intern postings · Sep vs Aug 2026
vs 1,424 in August
Corporate marketing internships for summer 2027 are being filled now, while WNBA team windows don't open until February. Applying to both is the safer plan, and a fall marketing role builds the portfolio a team will ask for.

Build These Skills Before You Apply
Each skill in the chart can be practiced on a real project before February:
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| Social media and short-form content | "Shoot social-style video"; "copywriting of social captions" (PS&E Digital Content) | TikTok Social Media Content & Brand Strategy |
| Data and ticket sales databases | "Research, expand, and manage the group sales database" (Mystics Ticket Sales) | Breaking Games E-Commerce Data Analysis & Strategy |
| Fan and consumer insight for marketing | "Marketing campaign planning tied to ticket sales and theme nights" (Dallas Wings) | Consumer Behavior Insights with Generous Brands |
| Partnership and business strategy | "Understand the brand and business objectives of each ... Partner" (PS&E Corporate Partnerships) | Corporate Strategy Externship mentored by Eric Ries |
None of these is a basketball project, but each one ends in work a team hiring manager can look at, from a content calendar to a sales analysis, which is what short-window programs screen for.
What Is the WNBA Application and Interview Process Like?
No WNBA team publishes its interview process, so we won't invent rounds. Here's the path the postings themselves describe:
1. Pick your markets. List the teams you could live near for the term; every internship we found is on site.
2. Find each team's board. Most use TeamWork Online; the Mystics use Monumental's Greenhouse board, the Fever use Pacers Sports & Entertainment's careers site, and the Liberty hire through BSE Global.
3. Apply inside the window. Summer windows run 15 days to about four weeks; in-season part-time roles stay open until filled.
4. Show the work. Content roles ask for photo or video skills, analytics roles for statistics and video breakdowns, so bring a portfolio or sample.
5. Confirm pay or credit before accepting, since several summer roles are credit-only.
The NBA league office is a different program with its own process and pay (from $26 an hour for undergraduates); our NBA internship guide covers it.
What Reddit Shows About WNBA Internships
We found no first-hand Reddit account from a WNBA team intern. These threads show how the listings and programs look from outside.
A fan's late-March 2026 roundup of WNBA job postings listed eight Dallas Wings summer internships, every one marked college credit only, plus summer ticket sales and graphic design interns at the Sky and a PR intern at the Sparks.
A repost of coverage of the first WNBA HBCU Event Intern Program described six HBCU students working All-Star 2025, and several commenters asked whether the interns were paid. Nobody in the thread could say.
Fans cheered when retired star Tina Charles began a New York Liberty internship while studying for a master's in sports management at UConn, a sign that front-office internships draw people from very different starting points.
How Do You Stand Out for a WNBA Internship?
Only Golden State gives any sense of demand: "thousands" of applications for 2026. No team publishes a class size.
Three moves fit what teams actually post:
1. Get a WNBA line on your resume this season. The Mystics and Pacers Sports & Entertainment roles open now put team work on your resume before the summer windows open.
2. Bring the sample the role asks for. A short photo or video portfolio for content roles, a player-comparison or projection exercise for analytics, or a sales story for ticketing.
3. Say yes to nights and weekends, and mean it. Six of the nine postings we read mention evenings, weekends or holidays, and game days are when interns are most visible.

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2026 WNBA internship?
No. Summer 2026 internships ran during the season and have ended. But some WNBA team roles are open now: the Mystics' part-time Marketing and Ticket Sales internships and Pacers Sports & Entertainment roles that include Fever games. Summer 2027 team windows are expected from February 2027.
When do WNBA team internships for summer 2027 open?
Mostly February to April 2027, based on the 2026 cycle; no team has published 2027 dates yet. Golden State's window was 1 to 15 February, the Liberty and Sparks posted in early February, and the Dallas Wings' summer roles were open for about four weeks from early March.
Does the WNBA have its own internship program?
Only one: the WNBA HBCU Event Intern Program at All-Star. League-office interns are hired through the NBA Summer Internship Program, which places interns across the NBA and its affiliate leagues, including the WNBA. Most WNBA internships are run by the 15 teams themselves.
Are WNBA internships paid?
It depends on the team. The Mystics pay $18.40 an hour for their part-time interns, while the Dallas Wings' 2026 summer roles and the Sparks' analytics internship were unpaid and for college credit. The Chicago Sky Scholar program is paid, though it doesn't state an amount.
Are any WNBA internships open right now?
Yes. On 2 October 2026, two Washington Mystics part-time internships (Marketing and Ticket Sales) were live, along with five Pacers Sports & Entertainment intern roles that include Indiana Fever games, for fall 2026 and spring 2027 terms. No summer 2027 team posting was live yet.
What skills do WNBA teams look for in interns?
Organization, communication and teamwork lead the nine team postings we read, along with availability for nights and weekends. Content roles add Adobe Photoshop or Premiere and short-form video, ticket sales roles add database work, and the Sparks' analytics intern built statistical player comparisons.
Can HBCU students get a WNBA internship?
Yes, through the WNBA HBCU Event Intern Program presented by Mielle, which brought eight HBCU students to All-Star 2026 after six in 2025. The league hasn't published an application route, so watch WNBA and NBA channels in spring. HBCU students can also apply to any team program.
Do WNBA interns get hired full-time?
There's no published answer: no team or the league publishes a conversion rate. Team front offices are small, and the league is expanding to 18 teams by 2030, with Cleveland, Detroit and Philadelphia joining. New teams could add entry-level roles over the next few years, though nothing is guaranteed.
WNBA summer windows open in February and close within weeks. Use the months before to finish something you can show: a remote Externship gives you a finished project for a real company, ready for your first application.
