Last updated: October 2026

Transamerica's summer 2027 internships are open right now, and its own internship page says most recruiting happens September through November. On October 5, 2026 its Workday board listed 9 intern roles across spring, summer and fall 2027 cohorts in accounting, investments, actuarial and data, almost all in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, at $21 to $29 an hour. In plain words: you apply during fall 2026, you intern in summer 2027 (or start as early as late January 2027 in a spring cohort).

One warning before you search. Transamerica also owns World Financial Group (WFG), whose "internships" are commission-based associate recruiting: a 2021 WFG application guide lists a $125 non-refundable processing fee and no pay until you're licensed. That isn't this program. The real internships are hourly roles posted on Transamerica's Workday board.

What Is a Transamerica Internship?

A Transamerica internship is a paid, hourly program at Transamerica, the US life insurance, retirement and investment arm of Aegon, with spring, summer and fall cohorts. Interns join a named department such as Actuarial, Corporate Tax, Expense Management, Financial Analysis, Internal Audit, Investment Reporting or Regulatory Reporting, and take part in a speaker series, networking program and community events, per its internships page. Transamerica's postings say it employs nearly 7,000 people and has operated for more than 100 years. One of its businesses is World Financial Group, an agency that recruits independent associates; that route is commission-based and separate from the internship program.

When Do Transamerica Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?

Transamerica posted its summer 2027 roles from early August to September 30, 2026, about 8 to 9 months before a mid-May start, and its spring 2027 roles in early to mid September, about 4.5 months before a late-January start. That makes it a three-cohort employer: spring, summer and fall internships are each posted separately. Its internships page says most recruiting happens September through November. Last cycle, a fall 2026 Corporate Tax role posted around January 23, 2026, so expect more fall 2027 roles around January 2027. Summer 2028 applications are expected around August to September 2027.

Transamerica's main recruiting season. Roles close as they fill and no posting names a deadline, so apply in October rather than waiting for December.

Around January 2027EXPECTED

Spring 2027 interns start in late January for 14 weeks. More fall 2027 roles are expected to post, based on a fall 2026 role posted around January 23, 2026.

May 18 to 19, 2027

The unpaid two-day iLEAD Accounting & Finance Leadership Summit in Cedar Rapids, for freshmen and sophomores, pitched as a way to meet hiring leaders for later internships.

Summer 2027EXPECTED

The summer cohort is expected to run from mid-May to early August, about 12 weeks (2025 ran May 19 to August 8). Summer 2028 roles are expected around August to September 2027.

How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.

Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open

Transamerica recruits on a rolling basis inside a short season. None of the nine postings states a closing date, but the company's own page says "most recruiting happens September through November," and the summer roles have been live since August and September. Several roles hire one person: each Portfolio Analyst posting says Transamerica is "looking to hire one hybrid intern." The original Actuarial Intern posting has already closed and been reposted, which shows roles turn over during the season. Apply in October. If you miss summer, the fall 2027 roles expected in January are the next door.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

Transamerica's rules are consistent across all nine postings:

• Enrollment: currently enrolled and working toward a degree. Internships aren't open to anyone who has graduated or will graduate before the internship ends, unless they're starting a further degree such as a master's.

• Majors: accounting for the reporting and tax roles (finance or business analytics considered), business for Portfolio Analyst, information systems or data analytics for Data Analytics, and actuarial science, math or statistics for Actuarial.

• Class year: Actuarial wants freshmen, sophomores and juniors, and says most interns have passed at least one SOA exam.

• Work authorization: every posting requires authorization to work in the US without immigration sponsorship.

• Schedule: hybrid, in office Tuesday to Thursday; Portfolio Analyst interns work about 15 hours a week during the school year.

Does Transamerica Have a GPA Cutoff?

None of the nine postings names a GPA. Transamerica screens on enrollment status, major and skills instead, and the sponsorship line is the firm requirement: it appears on every posting. For actuarial roles, the practical bar is exam progress, since the posting says most interns arrive with at least one SOA exam passed.

Question 1 of 6

Which summer are you applying for?

Recruiting timelines differ by class year, so we compare you with the right group.

Which group is your school closest to?

Firms recruit on campus in tiers. We match you against admits from schools like yours.

Math and statistics count too. Major is not a hard filter, but it shifts how much your coursework has to prove.

Question 4 of 6

How many internships, externships or research positions have you held so far?

Count anything with a real employer, mentor or principal investigator attached. Retail and food service do not count.

Question 5 of 6

Banking, PE or VC, corporate finance, wealth management, equity research, accounting or consulting. Any size of firm counts.

Question 6 of 6

What Skills Does Transamerica Look For, and How Do You Build Them?

All nine postings share one base: Microsoft Excel, written and verbal communication, and working independently and on a team. On top of that, accounting and reporting roles add accounting principles and reconciliations, data and expense roles add SQL, Alteryx and Tableau, portfolio roles add VBA and Power BI, and the Actuarial Intern posting asks for a programming language such as R or Python plus MS Access or similar database tools.

What Is the Transamerica Application and Interview Process Like?

Transamerica doesn't publish an intern interview process, and we found no first-hand intern interview account. What its board and postings show:

1. Apply on Workday. Use the "View internships" link on the internships page and apply to each role separately; the Portfolio Analyst roles each hire one intern.

2. Pick your cohort. Spring roles start in late January and summer roles in mid-May, so check the cohort in the title before you apply.

3. Interviews. The format isn't published. A 2021 candidate for the full-time Actuarial Development Program described two interview rounds, but that's the graduate program, not the internship.

4. Offer. Transamerica's postings say official offers come via DocuSign after a verbal offer, never by text or email, and that it never asks for ID or payment up front.

That last point matters here: Transamerica's postings warn about scammers impersonating its recruiters. A request for a fee is a red flag, whether it comes from a scammer or the WFG associate route. Our behavioral interview guide helps with the interview itself.

What Students on Reddit Say

Most Reddit threads about Transamerica "internships" are really about World Financial Group's associate recruiting; one actuarial thread covers the corporate side.

A student who found a WFG "internship" on Handshake said they were first given a different company name and spent the summer on sales recruiting instead of a real internship, and warned other students to look closely.

Commenters who went through WFG described paying out of pocket for background checks or study materials before earning anything; the amounts they reported varied.

A senior offered Transamerica's Actuarial Development Program after two interview rounds worried about the company's reputation. Actuaries replied that the sketchy stories come from life insurance sales, not the corporate actuarial job, and said to take it.

How Do You Stand Out for a Transamerica Internship?

Three moves. First, apply in October and consider every cohort. Most recruiting ends by November, and the spring 2027 roles are open now with less competition from students who only search for summer. Second, show Excel beyond the basics. Every posting asks for Excel, and the preferred lists add VBA, Power Query, SQL, Alteryx, Tableau and Power BI; one small automated report says more than a skills list. Third, for actuarial roles, bring an exam. The posting says most interns have already passed at least one SOA exam. Freshmen and sophomores in accounting and finance can also use the iLEAD summit in May 2027 to meet hiring leaders. Transamerica publishes no applicant count or conversion rate.

FAQ

Can I still apply for a summer 2026 Transamerica internship?

No. Summer 2026 has already run. The open door is summer 2027: on October 5, 2026 Transamerica had nine intern roles live, six including summer 2027 and four starting in spring 2027. Most of its recruiting happens September through November, so apply this month rather than waiting.

When do Transamerica summer 2027 internship applications close?

No posting states a deadline; roles close as they fill. Transamerica says most recruiting happens September through November, so treat the end of November 2026 as the practical cutoff for summer 2027. Fall 2027 roles are expected to post around January 2027.

How much do Transamerica interns make?

The 2027 postings list $21 an hour for accounting, expense management, investment reporting, financial reporting, tax and portfolio roles, $22 to $25 for the spring Data Analytics role, and $24 to $29 for Actuarial interns. Every Transamerica corporate internship is paid hourly.

Is a World Financial Group internship the same as a Transamerica internship?

No. WFG is a Transamerica-owned agency that recruits independent associates. Its "internships" are commission-based: a 2021 WFG application guide lists a $125 non-refundable processing fee and no pay until licensed. Transamerica's corporate internships are hourly roles posted on its Workday board.

Where are Transamerica internships located?

All nine live roles are in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and actuarial interns can also be placed in Baltimore, Maryland or Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Interns work a hybrid schedule: in the office Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and from home on Monday and Friday.

Does Transamerica only hire summer interns?

No. It runs spring, summer and fall cohorts. Spring 2027 roles run 14 weeks from late January to late April, summer ran May 19 to August 8 in 2025, and fall ran late August to mid-December. Two Portfolio Analyst roles span most of 2027.

Does Transamerica sponsor visas for interns?

No. Every one of the nine live postings says applicants must be authorized to work in the US without the need for immigration sponsorship. International students who need CPT or OPT sponsorship should check this line before applying, because it appears on every role, including the spring cohort.

Can freshmen get a Transamerica internship?

Yes, for actuarial roles: the posting targets freshmen, sophomores and juniors, though most interns have passed an SOA exam. Freshmen and sophomores in accounting or finance can also apply to the unpaid iLEAD summit on May 18 to 19, 2027, built to meet hiring leaders.

Transamerica's main recruiting season ends in November. Apply this month, and build a finance project in parallel: a remote Externship gives you finished work to discuss in your interviews.
