Texas Health Resources, the faith-based nonprofit that cares for more North Texas patients than any other provider, doesn't run one big summer internship. Its main door for business, IT and pre-health students is the Texas Health Dallas Academic Internship, an unpaid, seven-month, 380-hour placement in departments like IT project management, supply chain and the Heart and Vascular service line. Applications for the January to July 2027 cohort are open now and close on 12 October 2026. Nursing students have a separate door, paid summer nurse intern programs in Dallas and Fort Worth that usually recruit in January. In plain words: you apply this fall for the Academic Internship, or in January 2027 for a summer 2027 nurse internship.

The Academic Internship for January to July 2027 closes 12 October 2026, and the next cohort (July 2027 to January 2028) opens 29 March 2027. Summer 2027 nurse intern applications aren't open yet; expect them around mid-January 2027. None of these programs recruits through Texas Health's main job board.
Because the Academic Internship is part time and unpaid, many applicants pair it with something else on their resume. Extern's Externships are short, remote project programs with real companies, most commonly 8 weeks long, and they're unrelated to the nursing "extern" roles Texas Health offers its own nursing students. The Healthcare Operations Consulting Externship fits the Academic Internship's service-line and administration work, and the Amazon Fulfillment Center Operational Strategy & People Analytics Externship fits its supply chain seat.
What Is a Texas Health Resources Internship?
A Texas Health Resources internship usually means one of two programs. The Texas Health Dallas Academic Internship is a part-time, unpaid healthcare management internship at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas, the only hospital in the system that offers one. Interns join a single department for at least seven months and 380 hours, at 16 or more hours a week, and the 2027 list includes IT project management, IT field services, the Institute for Exercise and Environmental Medicine, Heart and Vascular, Nursing Administration, Perot Administration, Safety, Supply Chain and Volunteer Services, mostly one seat each. The second is the summer nurse intern program, which Texas Health runs at its Dallas and Fort Worth flagship hospitals for nursing students. Texas Health is a faith-based nonprofit with more than 420 access points across North Texas.

When Do Texas Health Resources Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
Texas Health's student programs run on separate, short calendars, and none of them recruits through its Taleo job board. The Academic Internship takes two cohorts a year: the window for January to July 2027 opened on 26 September 2026 and closes on 12 October, under three months before a January start, and the window for July 2027 to January 2028 opens on 29 March 2027. The nurse intern programs for summer 2027 are expected to open around mid-January 2027, based on a 16 January 2024 listing with interviews from 7 February 2024, and summer 2026 interviews that began on 16 February 2026. Fort Worth hasn't published its open date.
The Academic Internship for January to July 2027 is open right now and closes 12 October. The Gunnin Fellowship for public health graduate students is taking 2027 applications until 30 November. Summer 2027 nurse intern applications aren't open yet; both nurse programs say summer 2026 is closed.
Academic Internship applications for the January to July 2027 cohort close. Your application isn't complete until two reference letters and two forms reach Volunteer Services by email. Decisions usually come two to three weeks after the window closes.
Gunnin Fellowship 2027 applications due. Finalists are notified in January and interviewed in person in January or February 2027; most fellows complete their 400-hour internship in summer 2027.
Summer 2027 nurse intern applications expected at Texas Health Dallas, with interviews in February. Fort Worth's open date isn't published, so check its program page from January. Past windows have been short.
The Academic Internship window for July 2027 to January 2028 opens on 29 March 2027. Summer nurse interns work in June and July: the 2026 Dallas program ran 1 June to 31 July, and Fort Worth's runs nine weeks.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
The Academic Internship is a hard deadline with a 17-day window, 26 September to 12 October, and the next chance after it is a different cohort entirely, starting in July 2027. It's also a small program: the departments list about ten seats in total, mostly one per department, and Facilities and Human Resources are marked as not accepting interns. A late application isn't competing for a late slot; it's competing for nothing.
The nurse intern programs work differently. They don't publish a fixed close in advance, but in 2024 the Dallas program began interviews on 7 February, about three weeks after its listing went up, so an application in the first week of the January window is the safe move.
Which Texas Health Resources Internship Programs Should You Target?
These are Texas Health's student programs with a 2027 window, taken from its own program pages.
| Program | Who it's for | 2027 window | Pay / key detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| Academic Internship (Texas Health Dallas) | Undergrad, master's and PhD students in any accredited degree program | Jan–Jul 2027 cohort: 26 Sep to 12 Oct 2026; Jul 2027 cohort opens 29 Mar 2027 | Unpaid; 7+ months, 380 hours, 16+ hrs/week; ~10 seats |
| Nurse Intern Program, Texas Health Dallas | Nursing students who've completed two semesters | Expected ~mid-Jan 2027 | Paid with shift differentials; about 7 weeks, 24–36 hrs/week |
| Nurse Intern Program, Texas Health Fort Worth | Junior and senior nursing students | Not yet published | Paid; 9 weeks (1 orientation + 8 clinical), 36 hrs/week |
| Gunnin Public Health Memorial Fellowship | Master's or doctoral public health students at a Texas school, GPA 3.0+ | Due 30 Nov 2026 | $10,000 scholarship + $6,400 stipend; 400-hour internship |
| Community health and research placements | Students needing credit-bearing field placements; research by faculty invitation | Rolling or by invitation | Set with a preceptor or lab faculty member |
Texas Health's Dietetic Internship Program closes on 31 December 2026, so it isn't an option for 2027. See all programs on Texas Health's residencies and internships page.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
The gates depend on the program:
• Academic Internship: taking classes in an accredited degree program when you apply, or graduated no more than three months before the start; undergraduate or graduate. You need a Social Security number and must commit at least 16 hours a week for seven months.
• Dallas nurse interns: enrolled and in good standing in an accredited nursing program, with two semesters of nursing school completed, and authorized to work in the US.
• Fort Worth nurse interns: junior or senior nursing students who've completed their first nursing semester, available for the full program and authorized to work in the US. Texas Health calls students who stay on part time after the program "PRN nurse externs," its own clinical title.
• Gunnin Fellowship: full-time master's or doctoral public health student at an accredited Texas school, enrolled for fall 2027, minimum GPA 3.0, and able to live in DFW during the fellowship.
• International students: the Academic Internship requires a Social Security number and the nurse programs require US work authorization, so most international students won't qualify.

Is There a GPA Cutoff?
Only for Gunnin, which sets a 3.0 minimum. Neither the Academic Internship nor the nurse intern pages state a GPA, so the real gates are practical: the Academic Internship's seven-month, 16-hour-a-week commitment and two reference letters, and for nurse interns, the semesters of nursing school you've completed. Check that the schedule fits your classes before you apply, because the time commitment rules out more applicants than grades do.
What Skills Does Texas Health Resources Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
Texas Health doesn't post its student programs as job requisitions, so the best skill evidence is the duty list for each of the nine Academic Internship departments taking interns. Three patterns run through them:
• Meetings and documentation: every department has interns attending meetings, taking minutes or tracking action items, and most ask for documentation or record-keeping.
• Projects and analysis: most give interns special projects, and six of nine involve analyzing data or reports, such as quality and financial reports in Heart and Vascular and the Women and Infants service line.
• Operations improvement: Supply Chain reviews ordering and replenishment to find savings and recommend new PAR levels, and Heart and Vascular has interns shadow lab workflows to spot efficiency opportunities.

Method: full-text read of the nine department descriptions accepting interns on Texas Health's Academic Internship page for the January–July 2027 cohort (read 3 October 2026). How Is Demand for Operations Interns Moving Right Now?
Operations intern postings · Sep vs Aug 2026
vs 3,952 in August
Most operations internships for summer 2027 posted in September. Texas Health's Academic Internship runs on its own cohort calendar instead, so if you want a January start, the 12 October close is the date that matters.
Daily US job-posting counts, Sep 1–30 vs Aug 1–31, 2026. Covers under half of US postings; shows direction, not market size.
Build These Skills Before You Apply
Each row below pairs an Academic Internship duty with an open Externship that practices the same work.
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| Service-line operations & efficiency | Heart and Vascular: shadowing labs "looking for efficiency opportunities" | Healthcare Operations Consulting |
| Quality & financial reporting | Heart and Vascular and Perot: "Managing various ... reports/data (Quality and Financial)" | TruBridge Healthcare Data Analytics |
| Supply chain & process analysis | Supply Chain: "Analyze complex distribution processes. Improve workflow processes." | Amazon Fulfillment Center Operational Strategy & People Analytics |
| Data organization & records | IEEM and Perot: "Research, compile, tabulate, and analyze data" | Breaking Games SQL Database Architecture |
| Community & public health analysis | Gunnin Fellowship: a 400-hour internship with Texas Health Community Hope | ARCEH Children's Environmental Health Analytics |
If you miss 12 October, an Externship finished by March gives you a stronger application for the July 2027 cohort, which opens 29 March.
What Is the Texas Health Resources Application and Interview Process Like?
Here's the Academic Internship process from Texas Health's own page; the nurse programs use a simpler online form and an emailed interview invite.
1. Pick a department with a seat. Most take one intern, IT project management takes one or two, and Facilities and Human Resources are marked as not accepting interns.
2. Submit the online application by 12 October 2026. The window for the January to July 2027 cohort opened 26 September.
3. Email the supporting documents. Two Academic Intern Reference Letters, the AI Agreement and the AI Availability Form go to Texas Health Dallas Volunteer Services. Without them the application isn't complete.
4. Interview. Virtual or in person, at the preceptor's preference.
5. Decision. Usually two to three weeks after the application window closes, ahead of a January start. Accepted interns complete hospital orientation before starting.
For the nurse intern programs, Texas Health says you'll be contacted by email if you're selected for an interview. Its summer 2026 Dallas interviews began on 16 February 2026.
What Applicants on Reddit Say
Reddit has no thread about a Texas Health student program, but a few applicant threads describe how hiring works there.
One commenter applied to Texas Health corporate roles several times without hearing back, then got hired at its Denton hospital and suggests starting at a single location and transferring later. Others note that each hospital has its own HR team, separate from corporate HR in Arlington.
A pre-nursing student had applied since November 2025 to apprenticeships at Texas Health and other DFW systems, plus PCT, CNA and front-desk jobs, without landing an interview, a reminder of how competitive entry-level hospital roles are in the area.
In an older thread on breaking into hospital social work, commenters suggest volunteer roles in health systems as a low-commitment way in. Texas Health's Academic Internship is run through its Dallas Volunteer Services office.
How Do You Stand Out for a Texas Health Internship?
Three moves matter here.
First, pick one department and write to it. With about ten seats spread across nine departments, a generic healthcare-management pitch is weak. Name the department, quote one of its duties and explain the experience you bring: an Excel tracker you built for a club fits Perot Administration's reporting work, and a retail inventory job fits Supply Chain's PAR-level review.
Second, show you can commit the hours. Seven months at 16 or more hours a week, unpaid, is the real filter. Include your weekly schedule on the availability form and make it easy to see that you'll last the full cohort.
Third, line up references early. Two reference letters have to reach Volunteer Services by email for the application to count, so ask your references this week, not on 11 October.
For nursing students, Texas Health says Dallas nurse interns in their last semester can be among the first candidates to interview for its graduate nurse residency, and Fort Worth says many interns move into residency or PRN roles. It doesn't publish a conversion rate.

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2026 Texas Health Resources internship?
No. Both summer 2026 nurse intern programs say applications are closed. What's open now is the Academic Internship for January to July 2027, which closes 12 October 2026, and the Gunnin Fellowship for 2027, due 30 November 2026. Summer 2027 nurse intern applications are expected around mid-January 2027.
When does the Texas Health Academic Internship application close?
The window for the January to July 2027 cohort closes on 12 October 2026; it opened on 26 September. The next window, for the July 2027 to January 2028 cohort, opens on 29 March 2027. Decisions usually arrive two to three weeks after a window closes.
Are Texas Health internships paid?
It depends on the program. The Academic Internship is unpaid, though interns get a free meal, drink and parking. The Dallas and Fort Worth nurse intern programs are paid with shift differentials, but no rate is published. The Gunnin Fellowship pays a $10,000 scholarship and a $6,400 stipend.
Does Texas Health have a summer business internship?
Not as a summer program. The structured option for business, IT and pre-health students is the Academic Internship at Texas Health Dallas, which runs seven months part time in departments like IT project management, supply chain and service-line administration. No corporate summer internship was posted on Texas Health's job board on 3 October 2026.
When do Texas Health nurse intern applications open?
Around mid-January for summer programs, based on past cycles. A Dallas listing went up on 16 January 2024 with interviews from 7 February 2024, and summer 2026 interviews began on 16 February 2026. Fort Worth hasn't published its 2027 date, so check both program pages from early January.
How long is the Texas Health Academic Internship?
At least seven months and 380 hours, with a minimum of 16 hours a week. It runs alongside your classes in two cohorts a year, January to July and July to January, so it isn't a summer-only program. Make sure your semester schedule can carry the weekly commitment.
Can international students apply to Texas Health internships?
Usually not. The Academic Internship requires a Social Security number, and both nurse intern programs require authorization to work in the United States. The Gunnin Fellowship also asks for proof of eligibility to work in the US. Texas Health's research institute notes that student visa requests are very restricted.
Does Texas Health have a dietetic internship?
Not for 2027. Texas Health says its Dietetic Internship Program will officially close on 31 December 2026, while it supports current interns through completion. Dietetics students should look at other DFW health systems or university-affiliated programs for a 2027 placement instead.
If the Academic Internship fits your schedule, apply before 12 October 2026. If it doesn't, the next windows are January for nursing and 29 March 2027 for the July cohort, and a remote Externship finished before then gives you a concrete project to put on that application.
