| Where to apply | Stout's Student Careers site on Workday (linked from the students and early career page). The Complex Securities posting appears only on a second Workday site, Stout-Careers-URL, so search both. That second site also carries stale 2021 to 2023 postings; ignore them |

Summer 2028: expected from fall 2027 (one dated cycle observed, so low confidence) |

Last updated: October 2026
Stout's summer 2027 internships are open now, but only for some teams. Six postings went up on Stout's Workday board between September 15 and October 6, 2026: four in Disputes, Claims & Investigations (Chicago, Cleveland, San Diego and Washington, DC), one in Real Estate and one in Complex Securities. Stout says all its internships are paid, and the postings list $32 an hour for Disputes and $20 to $40 an hour for the other two. The investment banking summer analyst postings have already come down. In plain words: you apply during 2026, you intern in summer 2027, and Stout fills roles on a rolling basis, so apply early. This guide covers Stout, the global advisory firm (legal name Stout Risius Ross, LLC), not the beer or the University of Wisconsin-Stout.
What Is a Stout Internship?
A Stout internship is a paid summer placement at a global advisory firm that Stout describes as delivering "clarity and confidence in high-stakes financial, operational, and strategic situations." Founded in 1991, Stout organizes its work into service lines that include Valuation Advisory, Disputes, Claims & Investigations, Investment Banking, ESOP Advisory and Transaction Advisory. This week's open internships sit in three of those practices, and each one is its own posting with its own GPA floor and pay line. Stout doesn't publish a class size or a conversion rate. London internships run on a separate page and fall outside this guide.

When Do Stout Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
Stout posted its summer 2027 internships in three steps this fall. The four Disputes, Claims & Investigations roles went up on September 15, 2026, the Real Estate role on September 25 and the Complex Securities role on October 6. The postings give no start date, so we can't compute the lead time exactly; for an assumed early-June start, they sit about 8 to 9 months ahead. Stout's own students page says most summer internship applications open in the fall of the prior year, typically August to October, which matches. We found no first-party dates for the summer 2026 postings, so the summer 2028 window is a projection from one observed cycle: expect postings from late summer to early fall 2027.
Applications are open for six summer 2027 postings: Disputes, Claims & Investigations in four cities, Real Estate and Complex Securities. We re-checked Stout's Workday board on October 26, 2026. No investment banking summer analyst posting is listed today.
Apply this month. No posting states a closing date, but Stout says roles are filled on a rolling basis. Check your GPA against the floor for your practice (3.2 for Disputes, 3.0 for Real Estate and Complex Securities) before you apply.
Stout says it partners with select universities for campus events and interviews, and doesn't publish its interview stages. First-generation students can join NextGen in Finance virtual workshops: investment banking tentatively in December 2026 and Valuation Advisory in February 2027.
The internship itself. Stout hasn't published start dates or length. The Disputes posting describes work on engagements in a litigation setting, such as financial models, document review and research.
Summer 2028 postings expected, if the 2026 pattern repeats. We observed only one dated cycle, so treat this as low confidence and check Stout's student Workday site from August.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
Stout fills internships on a rolling basis, by its own account, and none of this fall's postings names a closing date. That means a posting can close once the team has its intern, so the first weeks matter most. The investment banking summer analyst postings show the risk: Stout posted ESOP investment banking roles for 2027 and 2028, and both are already gone from its board. Apply to your practice now rather than waiting for a deadline that won't be announced.
Which Stout Internship Programs Should You Target?
Stout hires interns practice by practice, so the table separates what is open from what isn't. The first three rows are live postings; the last two aren't internships you can apply to today.
| Program | Focus | Duration | Key details |
|---|---|---|---|
| Disputes, Claims & Investigations Summer Intern (Chicago, Cleveland, San Diego, Washington, DC) | Engagements in a litigation setting: forensic accounting, fraud investigations, damages, shareholder, IP and employment disputes | Not published | $32.00/hr; 3.2 GPA required; no bonus or benefits |
| Real Estate Summer Intern (Dallas, Houston, Chicago, Denver, Detroit, San Diego) | Valuation and advisory for estate and gift tax, financial reporting, purchase price allocation and litigation; on-site property inspections | Not published | $20 to $40/hr; 3.0 GPA required; driver's license and travel |
| Complex Securities Summer Intern (New York, San Diego) | Valuing derivatives and complex securities: option pricing, Monte Carlo, binomial trees; Python, R and VBA | Not published | $20 to $40/hr; junior or higher; 3.0 GPA required |
| Investment Banking and ESOP Summer Analyst | Summer analyst postings for 2027 and 2028 existed and have been taken down | n/a | Not open today; join the Talent Community for alerts |
| NextGen in Finance and Future Leaders in Finance (not internships) | Virtual workshops on investment banking and Valuation Advisory; NextGen is for first-generation students | Workshops | Investment banking workshops tentatively December 2026; Valuation Advisory February 2027 |

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
Requirements differ by practice. These come from the three posting types, which we read on October 26, 2026.
• Degree: Disputes asks for a student pursuing a BA or BS in accounting, finance, economics or a related field. Real Estate lists real estate, finance, business, economics or related. Complex Securities lists financial engineering, computational or mathematical finance, finance, business analytics or related.
• Class year: Complex Securities requires junior or higher. The Disputes and Real Estate postings state no class year.
• GPA: 3.2 required for Disputes; 3.0 required for Real Estate and Complex Securities, with 3.5 or higher preferred.
• Work authorization: all three postings require you to be eligible to work in the US without employer sponsorship, now and in the future.
• Other: Real Estate asks for a valid driver's license and the ability to travel to client sites.

Is the GPA a Hard Cutoff?
Stout's postings use the word "required" for the floor: 3.2 for Disputes and 3.0 for the other two. Real Estate and Complex Securities add that 3.5 or higher is preferred, which tells you the competitive number sits above the floor. Stout doesn't say how it treats an applicant just under the line, so don't assume an exception.

Could You Get In at Stout? Compare Your Profile
Based on 543 investment banking summer analysts at top investment banks from the classes of 2025 and 2026 (public LinkedIn profiles, aggregated). Six questions, under a minute.
Which summer are you applying for?
Recruiting timelines differ by class year, so we compare you with the right group.
Which group is your school closest to?
Firms recruit on campus in tiers. We match you against admits from schools like yours.
Is your major finance, economics, accounting or business?
Math and statistics count too. Major is not a hard filter, but it shifts how much your coursework has to prove.
How many internships, externships or research positions have you held so far?
Count anything with a real employer, mentor or principal investigator attached. Retail and food service do not count.
Has any of that experience been finance-related?
Banking, PE or VC, corporate finance, wealth management, equity research, accounting or consulting. Any size of firm counts.
Are you in a finance club, investment fund or case competition team?
Campus clubs are how most admits get their first deal and modelling reps.

What Skills Does Stout Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
Only three distinct postings are open, and the four Disputes roles share one text, so we haven't counted skills across enough postings to chart them. Reading all three: Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) appears in every one, and Communication and analytical writing come up in each. Financial modeling and statement analysis lead the Disputes and Real Estate roles. Valuation methodology appears in Real Estate and Complex Securities. Complex Securities adds Python, R and VBA with option pricing and Monte Carlo, and prefers Bloomberg and S&P Capital IQ. Real Estate prefers Argus.
Note: Three distinct postings are too few for a skill chart, which would overstate any single skill. The skills above come from Stout's Disputes, Real Estate and Complex Securities postings, read on October 26, 2026.
How Is Demand for Finance Interns Moving Right Now?
Finance intern postings · Sep vs Aug 2026
vs 336 in August
For Stout applicants: Stout's own Workday board had six summer 2027 intern postings live on October 26, 2026, all posted between September 15 and October 6, so its wave is already open rather than still to come.
Daily US job-posting counts, Sep 1–30 vs Aug 1–31, 2026. Covers under half of US postings; shows direction, not market size. Pay = median of employer-published ranges only (60 postings in September, 57 in August).
Build These Skills Before You Apply
Each skill below maps to a remote Externship you can finish while Stout's postings are still open.
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| Valuation and financial statement analysis | Real Estate and Complex Securities: valuation methodology; Disputes: analyzing financial statements | Attronica Financial Planning & Analysis and Private Company Valuation |
| Financial modeling | Disputes: assisting in creating financial models; Complex Securities: option pricing and Monte Carlo models | Yinan Zhao Investing & Financial Modeling |
| Company and deal evaluation | Real Estate: valuation deliverables for client matters; Stout's Investment Banking practice | Mangusta Capital Deal Sourcing & Startup Analysis |
| Data handling | Disputes: data entry, document organization, quality control checks; Complex Securities: Python, R, VBA | SQL & Database Architecture with Breaking Games |
The overlap is closest on the valuation and modeling rows. No open Externship covers forensic accounting, litigation support or option pricing, so the data row builds a general data skill rather than a Stout-specific one.
What Is the Stout Application and Interview Process Like?
Stout doesn't publish interview stages for its internships, so these steps cover only what its pages state.
1. Choose the posting. Disputes, Real Estate and Complex Securities are separate postings; apply to the one that matches your degree and GPA.
2. Apply on Workday. Use Stout's Student Careers site, and check the second Workday site for Complex Securities. You can also join the Talent Community for alerts.
3. Campus events and interviews. Stout says it partners with select universities for events and interviews, and that you can still apply online if it doesn't visit your campus.
4. Offer. Stout doesn't publish timing between steps or the number of interview rounds.
Stout doesn't publish interview stages for investment banking either, so sign up for alerts if that's your target.
What We Found on Reddit
Nothing we can use. The Reddit threads we found about Stout are from 2018 and 2020 and describe the full-time analyst job or give a one-line opinion, not the internship. We'd rather show no quotes than borrow an old one.
How Do You Stand Out for a Stout Internship?
First, pick the practice that matches your degree and read its floor: 3.2 for Disputes, 3.0 for the others. Second, show the work, not just the course. Disputes postings describe financial models and statement analysis, and Complex Securities names option pricing, Monte Carlo and Python, so bring a model or analysis you built. Third, apply this month, because Stout fills roles on a rolling basis and its investment banking postings have already come down. Stout doesn't publish an applicant count, class size or conversion rate; its student FAQ says only that many interns receive return offers.

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2026 Stout internship?
No. Summer 2026 internships ran last summer and are over. Summer 2027 is the cycle open now: six postings went up between September 15 and October 6, 2026, in Disputes, Claims & Investigations, Real Estate and Complex Securities, and none names a closing date.
When do Stout internship applications open?
Stout's students page says most summer applications open in the fall of the prior year, typically August to October. In 2026, Disputes opened September 15, Real Estate September 25 and Complex Securities October 6. We expect summer 2028 postings from late summer 2027, with low confidence.
Are Stout internships paid?
Yes. Stout's student FAQ says all internships are paid. The Disputes postings state $32.00 an hour and say the role isn't eligible for bonus or benefits, and the Real Estate and Complex Securities postings state a range of $20.00 to $40.00 an hour.
What GPA do I need for a Stout internship?
It depends on the practice. Disputes, Claims & Investigations requires at least a 3.2 GPA. Real Estate and Complex Securities require a 3.0 minimum and prefer 3.5 or higher. Complex Securities also requires junior standing or higher. Stout doesn't state an exception for applicants below the floor.
Does Stout sponsor visas for interns?
No. All three posting types say you must be eligible to work in the US without employer sponsorship, at the time of hire and in the future. International students who will need sponsorship after graduation shouldn't expect these roles to work, based on the posting language.
Where do Stout interns work?
Disputes roles are in Chicago, Cleveland, San Diego and Washington, DC. Real Estate covers Dallas, Houston, Chicago, Denver, Detroit and San Diego, and requires travel to client sites. Complex Securities is in New York and San Diego. The postings don't say whether any role is remote.
Does Stout have an investment banking summer analyst program?
Stout has posted investment banking summer analyst roles, including ESOP investment banking for 2027 and 2028, but none is listed on its Workday board today. They have been taken down. Join Stout's Talent Community and watch its student page for the next posting.
Do Stout interns get full-time offers?
Stout says many interns receive return offers and join as full-time analysts or associates after graduation, but it doesn't publish a conversion rate or a class size. Treat any percentage you see on job-board or review sites as unverified, because it isn't coming from Stout.
Apply to the practice that matches your degree this month, and check Stout's second Workday site if you want Complex Securities. While you wait, a remote Externship gives you a finished valuation or model to talk about in the interview.
