Last updated: October 2026
The San Francisco 49ers Internship Program is a paid, full-time, season-long program for people who have already finished a degree, not a summer internship for current students. The team's own internships page lists a "Completed Bachelor's degree or postgraduate degree" under its requirements and says the term runs from mid-July to February.
As of 17 October 2026 nothing is open: the Internships Opportunities list on 49ers.com/employment is empty. Last cycle applications went live on 18 December 2025 and closed on 5 January 2026 for a program that began on 6 July 2026. In plain words, you apply in December and start the following July. If you're a senior, the December window is the one to plan around; if you're earlier in college, this program isn't open to you yet.

Externships are short, remote programs where you finish a real project for a real company, most commonly over 8 weeks, so a typical one fits before the expected December window. The Pinterest Gen Z Consumer Behavior Externship builds the fan-audience and content thinking behind the team's digital and fan engagement roles, and the Breaking Games E-Commerce Data Analysis & Strategy Externship builds the analysis skills behind business analytics and strategy postings. What Is a San Francisco 49ers Internship?
The San Francisco 49ers Internship Program (presented by University of the Pacific in 2025-26) is a paid, full-time placement with the NFL team's front office, part of its "Fans for Life" program. It's for graduates: the team's page requires a completed bachelor's or postgraduate degree, and its December 2025 article describes the program as hands-on experience for college graduates.
Each intern works in one department with a mentor, a team and a real project, plus group networking events, training and one-on-one meetings. The team lists Communications & Public Affairs, Community Impact, Finance & Accounting, Business Strategy & Analytics, Investments, Marketing, Partnership & Membership Services and the 49ers Foundation as past hosts. The 49ers hire for this program themselves; no parent company posts for them, and the league office has a separate program.

When Do San Francisco 49ers Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
The 49ers run one annual intake with a winter window for a July start, about 6.5 months of lead time from opening to first day. For the 2026-27 class the team's article dated 17 December 2025 said applications would go live on 18 December, and the requisition said they closed on Monday, 5 January 2026. The first day was Monday, 6 July 2026 and the last day Friday, 26 February 2027.
That's one documented cycle, so treat the December 2026 estimate as low-to-medium confidence. Archived copies of the internships page show no postings in captures from May to early December 2025, so the list only appears when the window opens. The posted dates are for the 2026 NFL season; the program starting in July 2027 serves the 2027 season.
Applications aren't open. The 2026-27 class is mid-program and the Internships Opportunities list on 49ers.com/employment is empty. This is the window to prepare materials and, if you're finishing a degree, plan how you'll show it.
Pick the departments you'd target from last cycle's 20 postings, tailor a resume and cover letter to them, and decide how you'll cover your own housing and transportation, which the team requires.
Applications for the program starting July 2027 are expected, based on last cycle's 18 December 2025 opening and 5 January 2026 close. Apply in the first week; the team stated a close date.
Selection happens after the window. The team doesn't publish interview stages or offer dates. If you're a senior, your degree should be complete before the July start.
The season-long term is expected to run mid-July to end of February, as the 2026-27 class does. The 49ers don't publish class size or a conversion rate.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
The 49ers' requisitions stated a close date, and the window lasted about 18 days: live on 18 December 2025, closing 5 January 2026, with the holidays in the middle. That's a hard deadline, not a rolling process, so don't plan to apply on the last evening. The team accepts applications only through 49ers.com/employment.
Two things slow people down: the application needs a cover letter tailored to a specific posting, and there were 20 separate postings last cycle. Choose your department in advance so you can submit in the first days of the window.
Which San Francisco 49ers Internship Programs Should You Target?

| Creative | Graphic Design, Photography, Creative Video Production, Creative Podcast and International Content, Live Events Creative | Mid-July to end of February | Portfolio-style roles |
| Business and partnerships | Business Analytics, Business Strategy, Corporate Partnerships | Mid-July to end of February | Analytics postings sit in Business Strategy & Analytics |

The full description and live postings are on the team's internships page. The 49ers also run a separate fellowships program, which isn't covered here.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
The team's requirements are short, and the first one decides who can apply:
• Completed degree: the team lists a completed bachelor's degree or postgraduate degree under Internship Requirements. This is a graduate program, not a student internship.
• Housing and transportation: you must provide your own to your work location.
• Full commitment: interns commit to the entire term from mid-July to February and work flexible hours that include nights, holidays and weekends.
• On site: the 2025-26 requisition said no remote internships are available.
• GPA and work authorization: not stated on the pages we read.

Can a Current Student Apply?
Not for this program as the team describes it. Its page requires a completed degree and its December 2025 article calls the internship hands-on experience for college graduates. The team doesn't say whether a senior with a pending degree can apply in December; a spring 2027 graduate would hold the degree by the July start, so confirm the rule on the posting. If you're earlier in college, build your materials now and look at other clubs' and the league's internships in our sports guide.
What Skills Do the San Francisco 49ers Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
The 49ers publish skills for the Community Relations internship only: organization, communication, professionalism and event planning. The team's values named in that requisition are collaboration, adaptability, integrity and strong communication. We read one requisition in full, so we can't say how the other 19 postings differ. The evidence from the department list is that marketing, creative and analytics roles dominate, and the team's own intern interviews say the projects are real, from a fundraising event that raised more than $1.4 million to a fan experience for people with low or no vision.
Note: We read one 49ers internship requisition in full (Community Relations, December 2025), and the other 19 postings aren't archived in readable form, so we left the skill chart out rather than build one from a single description.

Build These Skills Before You Apply
Each row pairs a 49ers internship area with a remote Externship that builds a matching skill. Evidence is the department list from the team's December 2025 postings and its internships page.

A finished project helps most in the cover letter, where the team asks you to tailor your case to one posting.
What Is the San Francisco 49ers Application and Interview Process Like?
The team publishes the application route but not the interview stages:
1. Apply on 49ers.com/employment. Submit a resume and a cover letter; emailed applications aren't accepted.
2. Tailor to one posting. Current interns' advice on 49ers.com is to match your materials to the job description.
3. Prepare for the interview. Interns say to come with thoughtful questions, a clear "why" and a personable approach; the team doesn't publish rounds or timing.
4. Plan the logistics. Confirm you can provide housing and transportation and commit mid-July to February.
Interview stages, offer dates and class size aren't published.
What Interns Say on the Team's Own Site
We found no first-hand 49ers internship threads on Reddit, so these cards paraphrase two intern testimonials the team publishes on its internships page. They're team-curated, so read them as promotional.
A Foundation fundraising programs intern said the role let her try different things and take the lead on several projects, that the team listened to her ideas, and that it was her first job in sports with the team she grew up loving.
A Community Relations intern said he wanted to break into the sports industry and that interning with his hometown team gave him room to grow and a lot of opportunities.
How Do You Stand Out for a 49ers Internship?
Three moves.
First, be application-ready by early December. The window lasted about 18 days last cycle and ran through the holidays, so have a resume and a tailored cover letter finished for one department before it opens.
Second, show you can commit to a full season. The team asks for the whole term from mid-July to February, nights, holidays and weekends included, and your own housing and transportation. Say plainly how you'll manage it.
Third, bring evidence for your department: a content sample, an analysis or a community project. The team publishes no class size or conversion rate, though its podcast page introduces a Digital Content Coordinator who is a former intern.

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2026 San Francisco 49ers internship?
No, and it was never a summer program. The 2026-27 class started on 6 July 2026 and runs to 26 February 2027, and applications closed on 5 January 2026. It's for people with a completed degree. The next window is expected from about mid-December 2026 to early January 2027.
Is the 49ers internship for current students?
No. The team lists a completed bachelor's or postgraduate degree as a requirement, and its December 2025 article describes the program as for college graduates. Seniors finishing in spring 2027 should confirm on the posting whether a pending degree is accepted, since the July start comes after graduation.
Are 49ers internships open right now?
No. As of 17 October 2026 the Internships Opportunities list on 49ers.com/employment is empty, and the board shows only four full-time and four part-time jobs. The next application window is expected from about mid-December 2026 to early January 2027, based on last cycle's dates.
When do 49ers internship applications open?
Last cycle applications went live on 18 December 2025 and closed on 5 January 2026, about 18 days, for a program starting 6 July 2026. For the program starting in July 2027, expect mid-December 2026 to early January 2027. That's one documented cycle, so check 49ers.com/employment from early December.
Are 49ers internships paid?
Yes. The team says interns are paid hourly and expected to work 30 to 40 or more hours a week. The 2025-26 Community Relations requisition listed $19.00 an hour; we didn't check other departments. Housing and transportation aren't provided, so interns cover their own.
How long is the 49ers internship?
It's a season-long program running from mid-July to the end of February. The 2026-27 class began on 6 July 2026 and ends on 26 February 2027. Interns commit to the whole term and work flexible hours that include nights, holidays and weekends, mostly on site in the Bay Area.
Which departments hire 49ers interns?
The December 2025 cycle had 20 postings across Communications, Marketing, Creative, Business Analytics and Strategy, Corporate Partnerships, Community Relations, IT Support, Game Presentation and the 49ers Foundation. The team's page also names Finance & Accounting, Investments and Partnership & Membership Services as past host departments.
Is the 49ers internship remote?
No. The 2025-26 requisition said no remote internships are available, and interns work mostly on site around Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara and the team's Bay Area facilities. You must also provide your own housing and transportation to your work location, according to the team's requirements.
The 49ers' next window is expected in about two months, and only graduates qualify. Use the time well: a remote Externship gives you a finished project to cite in a cover letter.
