Last updated: October 2026
The San Diego Padres have no internships posted today, but last year's summer postings appeared in the fall, so the next ones are close. On 17 October 2026 the club's Hireology job board listed nine jobs and none was an internship. For summer 2026, the Padres' own posting said the hiring process would begin "late-October to late November 2025" for a 10-week program running June to August. Here's the cycle in plain words: you apply in fall 2026, expected from late October into November, and you intern from mid-June to mid-August 2027. The 2026 Special Events posting paid $21.06 an hour, and students who attend school in San Diego or are from San Diego are named as highly preferred.

The Padres' interns work across marketing, finance, sales and events, and the 2026 posting asks for Microsoft Office, communication and organization, so finished projects help. Externships are short, remote programs where you complete a real project for a real company, most commonly over 8 weeks. What Is a San Diego Padres Internship?
A San Diego Padres internship is a paid, part-time summer role with the MLB club, based at Petco Park. The Padres' Summer Intern Program page describes a 10-week program that puts interns in departments such as Marketing, Finance, Sales, IT, HR, Ballpark Operations, Baseball Operations and Community Relations, working on game and non-game days, with Lunch and Learns and networking events. The Padres hire for themselves; there is no parent employer. This guide covers the baseball club's student program, not the Game Day Opportunities and Inside Sales Program, which are separate Padres programs, and not the Padres' minor league or spring training jobs.

When Do San Diego Padres Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
The Padres run one summer intake. For summer 2026, the Special Events posting on the club's own Hireology board said the club was "currently accepting applications" and "will begin the hiring process late-October to late November 2025", and an archived copy of it was captured on 24 October 2025. That's about 7 to 8 months before the mid-June start. The program page says recruitment and selection "starts in the winter", so the two statements differ, and the posting is the more specific one. We found only one dated cycle, so summer 2027 postings in late October to November 2026 are an estimate with moderate confidence.
No Padres internship is posted yet. The Hireology board listed nine jobs on 17 October 2026, all in security, accounting, partnership services and athletic training. Check the board weekly and set a job alert.
Applications for summer 2027 are expected to appear, one posting per department. The 2026 posting named no closing date, so apply soon after your department's posting goes up.
Selection. The program page says recruitment and selection starts in the winter and is highly competitive. The Padres don't publish decision dates, and we found no first-hand account of the interview steps.
Offers are conditional on post-offer requirements, including a background check. Confirm you can commit to the full program, mid-June to mid-August, including weekends and evenings.
The 10-week program runs June to August, on game and non-game days, with Lunch and Learns and networking events. Summer 2028 postings are expected around fall 2027.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
We can't tell you the Padres close applications quickly, because their 2026 posting gives a start to the hiring process and no closing date. What we can say is that the program page calls selection highly competitive, that each department posts its own role, and that the club tells you to apply to only one. That makes timing less important than fit. Check the board weekly from late October, read your department's posting closely, and apply as soon as it appears so you're not guessing at a deadline.
Which San Diego Padres Internship Programs Should You Target?
The Padres list the departments below on their program page. Only one 2026 internship posting could be recovered in full, and a separate Sports Science role is listed to show the difference.
| Track | Focus | Term | Key requirements |
|---|---|---|---|
| Summer Intern Program (Marketing, Finance, Sales, IT, HR, Ballpark Operations, Baseball Operations, Community Relations) | Day-to-day projects in a department, game and non-game days, Lunch and Learns and networking events | 10 weeks, June to August | Completed sophomore or junior year, or graduate student; 18 or older |
| Intern, Special Events (2026 posting) | Event planning, venue layouts, vendor communication, Friday Parties in the Park, event social posts | Mid-June to mid-August 2026; $21.06 an hour | Microsoft Office, communication, organization; bilingual English/Spanish a plus |
| Intern, Sports Science (separate role, Peoria, AZ) | Player measurables, Hawk-Eye tracking data and reports at the spring training complex | Seasonal, up to 6 months; $15.15 an hour in AZ in the Dec 2025 posting | Bachelor's or master's degree in a related field |
| Game Day Opportunities, Inside Sales Program (not internships) | Separate Padres programs linked from the careers page | Varies | See the Padres careers page |
Find postings on the Padres' Hireology board. The Sports Science role is a degree-holder seasonal job, not the student summer program.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
The Padres' program page and 2026 posting set these requirements:
• Class year: a currently enrolled student who has just completed the sophomore or junior year of college, or a current graduate student. Recent graduates aren't eligible.
• Age: at least 18 by the start of employment.
• Availability: the full program, mid-June to mid-August in 2026, including home games and special events with weekends and evenings.
• Preferences: students who attend school in San Diego or are from San Diego, and bilingual candidates. The 2026 posting lists English/Spanish as a plus.
• GPA: the program page asks for an "exceptional" GPA and gives no number.
• Physical and pre-employment: able to lift up to 25 pounds and to move around the ballpark for long periods; post-offer requirements include a background check.
• Work authorization and academic credit: not stated on the page or in the posting.

Can Recent Graduates Apply?
No. The program page says recent graduates aren't eligible, and the 2026 posting limits applicants to students who have completed their sophomore or junior year by June, or are current graduate students. Graduating seniors should look at the Padres' entry-level jobs on the same board instead.
What Skills Do the San Diego Padres Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
Only one 2026 internship posting could be recovered, the Special Events intern, so this isn't the program-wide skill set. It asks for advanced computer skills including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, strong written and verbal communication, teamwork, exceptional organization and meeting deadlines, discretion and integrity, and reliable attendance. English/Spanish bilingual is a plus. The duties are practical: event planning, venue layouts, vendor communication, inventory documents and social posts for events.
Note: We recovered one full 2026 Padres intern posting (Special Events) from an archived copy of the club's own board, so a count of skills across postings would read 1 of 1. We left the bar chart out rather than invent a base. The skills above come from that posting.

The Padres posting asks for organization and meeting deadlines, and an Externship deliverable is a finished piece of work you can point to.
What Is the San Diego Padres Application and Interview Process Like?
The Padres don't publish interview steps. This is what the program page and the 2026 posting show:
1. Watch the board. Postings go up on the Padres' Hireology board when the club is ready, so check it weekly from late October.
2. Pick one department. The 2026 posting says to apply to the one internship posting most relevant to your field of study.
3. Apply online. The program page says to apply online when the opportunities are posted.
4. Interview. The format isn't published, and we found no first-hand account.
5. Offer. Offers depend on post-offer, pre-employment requirements, including a background check.
Questions can go to jobs@padres.com, the address on the posting.
What Students on Reddit Say
We found no first-hand Padres internship threads on Reddit. The two relevant results were a 2021 post about a full-time analytics job and a 2023 post from a student who applied for an HR internship and wasn't selected, and the rest were automated job reposts, so there are no cards here rather than padded ones.
How Do You Stand Out for a Padres Internship?
Three moves. First, be ready before the posting appears. Last cycle an archived copy shows it live on 24 October 2025, so have your résumé, a short cover letter and your class-year details ready. Second, apply to the one department that fits. The posting asks for a single application, so choose the department where your coursework and projects line up, whether that's events, marketing, finance or sales. Third, show your San Diego ties and any Spanish. The program page says students who attend school in San Diego or are from San Diego, and bilingual candidates, are highly preferred. The Padres don't publish an applicant count, class size or conversion rate, so treat the internship as the goal and ask about next steps once you're in.
