NVIDIA Ignite is a paid, 12-week summer pre-internship in Santa Clara for first- and second-year undergrads at US four-year universities. Applications for summer 2027 are open now and close October 18, 2026, in two tracks: Software Engineering and Hardware Engineering. If you're reading this on or before October 18, apply today, because the window is only two weeks long. If you're reading it later, the summer 2027 window has closed. The next one, for summer 2028, is expected in early October 2027, based on the October 6 to 19, 2025 and October 5 to 18, 2026 windows of the last two cycles.

The detail applicants most often miss: your resume has to state your anticipated graduation month and year clearly. The posting asks for it directly, and eligibility depends on your class year.

Ignite asks for basic coding knowledge, not internship experience, so a finished project you can talk through is what makes a freshman or sophomore resume stand out. A remote Externship like the Wayfair n8n AI Agent Engineering Externship gives you a real AI build to list, and it's useful for the 2028 cycle too if you miss this one.

What Is NVIDIA Ignite?

NVIDIA Ignite is a 12-week summer pre-internship that NVIDIA created for current freshmen and sophomores from a wide range of backgrounds. It runs on-site in Santa Clara, California. Participants work hands-on with NVIDIA technical experts on real projects and get an inside look at NVIDIA's products, culture and ecosystem. For summer 2027 there are two tracks. The Software Engineering track lists example internships in AI and machine learning, automotive offensive security, embedded software, GPU software, robotics system software and Vulkan driver performance. The Hardware Engineering track lists AI developer technology, ASIC physical design and timing, GPU verification and design, CPU infrastructure and power architecture. The 2026 cycle also had a Business Operations track, but NVIDIA hasn't posted one for 2027.

Who Can Apply to NVIDIA Ignite?

The 2027 postings set these requirements for both tracks:

• Class year: a first-year (class of 2030) or second-year (class of 2029) undergraduate

• School: pursuing a bachelor's degree at a four-year university in the United States

• Major: computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, math or a related field

• Skills: basic knowledge of one or more of C, C++, Python, Perl or MATLAB

• Coursework: enrolled in computing or engineering courses that cover software basics (SWE track) or hardware basics (HW track)

• Resume: your anticipated graduation month and year must be clearly shown

• GPA and work authorization: not stated in the postings

Juniors and seniors aren't eligible for Ignite. They apply to NVIDIA's regular internships instead. Business, marketing, finance and HR majors had their own Ignite track in 2026, but there's no 2027 equivalent on NVIDIA's board as of October 16, 2026.

When Does NVIDIA Ignite Open for Summer 2027?

The summer 2027 dates are published, not projected: the window opened October 5, 2026 and closes October 18, 2026, the same for both tracks. Last year's window ran October 6 to 19, 2025, so the two-week early-October pattern has held for two cycles. That's the basis for the projected summer 2028 window below. NVIDIA hasn't published decision dates or the exact summer 2027 program dates.

How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and the employer's own postings. Treat future dates as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The program's official page is always the most current source. If it's posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.

How Do You Apply to NVIDIA Ignite?

You apply through NVIDIA's Workday careers site, one posting per track:

1. Pick your track: Software Engineering (JR2026958) or Hardware Engineering (JR2027047).

2. Update your resume so it clearly shows your anticipated graduation month and year, your major, and the languages you know (C, C++, Python, Perl or MATLAB).

3. List the computing or engineering courses you're taking that cover software or hardware basics, plus any project where you wrote real code.

4. Submit before October 18, 2026. NVIDIA reviews resumes on an ongoing basis, so earlier is better, and a recruiter may contact you if your experience fits.

NVIDIA doesn't publish its assessment or interview format for Ignite. Treat anything you read on forums as one person's experience, not the official process.

Does NVIDIA Ignite Lead to an NVIDIA Internship?

NVIDIA doesn't promise one. Its university recruiting page says its internships are "our primary pipeline for new college grads and early-in-career hiring," but that's a general statement about NVIDIA interns, and nothing published guarantees an Ignite participant a later internship or full-time offer. What Ignite gives you is a summer of real project work with NVIDIA engineers, at a point in college when most students can't get a technical internship. When you're a junior, you'd apply to NVIDIA's regular internships: see our NVIDIA internship guide for that summer 2027 timeline.

How Do You Build a Strong NVIDIA Ignite Application?

Ignite is built for students early in college, so NVIDIA isn't looking for past internships. It's looking for basic coding skills, the right coursework and a clear interest in one of its areas. Here's how to show each one.

With days left in the window, don't wait on a new project to apply. Submit with what you have now, then build the project for the summer 2028 cycle or your first regular internship applications.

FAQ

When is the NVIDIA Ignite deadline for summer 2027?

October 18, 2026. The window opened October 5, 2026 and is the same for the Software Engineering and Hardware Engineering tracks. If you miss it, the next window, for summer 2028, is expected in early October 2027, based on the October 6 to 19, 2025 and October 5 to 18, 2026 windows.

Is NVIDIA Ignite paid?

Yes. The 2027 posting lists an hourly rate of $20 to $56 for interns, up from $18 to $54 in the 2026 posting. You also get intern benefits, a one-time round trip if you're traveling more than 50 miles, and a supplemental housing stipend for the summer in Santa Clara.

Can juniors apply to NVIDIA Ignite?

No. The 2027 postings are for first-years (class of 2030) and second-years (class of 2029) pursuing a bachelor's degree at a US four-year university. Juniors and seniors should look at NVIDIA's regular internships, which run their own summer 2027 recruiting. Our NVIDIA internship guide covers that timeline.

Can international students apply to NVIDIA Ignite?

The 2027 postings don't say. They require enrollment at a four-year university in the United States, but they don't state any citizenship, work authorization or sponsorship rule. If you're on a student visa, check with your school's international office and ask an NVIDIA recruiter before you count on it.

What GPA do you need for NVIDIA Ignite?

NVIDIA doesn't publish a GPA minimum for Ignite. The postings ask for a CE, CS, EE, math or related major, basic knowledge of C, C++, Python, Perl or MATLAB, and courses that cover software or hardware basics. Your resume must show your anticipated graduation month and year.

Is there an NVIDIA Ignite Business Operations track for 2027?

Not as of October 16, 2026. The 2026 cycle had a Business Operations track for business, marketing, finance and HR majors, but searches of NVIDIA's Workday board show only the Software Engineering and Hardware Engineering postings for 2027. Check the board directly in case NVIDIA adds one.

Does NVIDIA Ignite lead to a job offer?

Not by any published promise. NVIDIA says its internships are its primary pipeline for new college grad hiring, but it doesn't guarantee Ignite participants a later internship or full-time offer, and it doesn't publish a conversion rate. Treat Ignite as early experience that strengthens your later NVIDIA applications.

The October 18 deadline is days away, so apply first and polish later. If your resume is light on code, a remote Externship gives you a finished project to point to for the summer 2028 Ignite window or NVIDIA's regular internships.
