Nuro, the Mountain View autonomous driving company, hires interns one requisition at a time. On 26 October 2026 its Greenhouse board listed 98 openings and only two were internships: a Software Engineer, AI Platform intern and a Social Media Intern. Nuro's early careers page says the best time to apply is August through October for positions starting in the next calendar year. In plain words: you apply during 2026, you intern in 2027. Neither open posting names a season, so confirm the start window when you apply.
What Is a Nuro Internship?
A Nuro internship is a 12 to 16-week placement at a self-driving company in Mountain View, California, for undergraduate and graduate students. Nuro calls its program the Pathfinders Internship Program and describes three parts: a manager and mentor, a project you own and present at the end, and a hackathon on problems outside your regular scope.
Nuro was founded in 2016 and describes itself as a physical AI company developing Level 4 autonomous driving technology; its postings say it has raised over $2B. The engineering intern posting lets you work across some or all of five teams: Data Platform, Onboard Systems, ML Infrastructure, Simulation and Technical Infrastructure. The marketing posting reports to Nuro's Director of Brand and Marketing. Nuro has also posted a full-time New Grad software engineering role, which is a separate, non-internship job.
When Do Nuro Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
Nuro doesn't run a dated cohort. Its early careers FAQ says opportunities are available throughout the year and the best time to apply is August through October for positions starting in the next calendar year, and an archived copy of the page from September 2024 carries the same wording. The engineering posting appeared on Greenhouse on 22 October 2025 and was last updated on 9 October 2026; the Social Media Intern posting appeared on 29 September 2026.
That puts the lead time for a role starting in mid-2027 at about 7 to 8 months, if the engineering role follows a summer start. Its posting doesn't say, so treat the start date as something to confirm.
Two internships are open: Software Engineer, AI Platform - Intern and Social Media Intern, both in Mountain View. Neither carries a closing date, but each is a single requisition, so it can come down once the role is filled.
Nuro's stated best window for roles starting in 2027 ends this week. Nothing on the live postings closes at the end of October, so a November application is still possible. The engineering posting has stayed up since 22 Oct 2025.
Nuro doesn't publish its interview steps. One r/csMajors poster who applied to the AI Platform intern posting reported a HackerRank assessment about a month after applying (April 2026), so expect a gap before you hear back.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
The two postings ask for different things:
• Software Engineer, AI Platform - Intern: a current BS or MS candidate in computer science, electrical engineering, robotics or a related field, graduating in December 2026 or later. The posting lists backend API design, large-scale distributed systems, data processing, C++, Python, machine learning and performance tuning as areas of experience.
• Social Media Intern: enrolled in or recently graduated from a program in marketing, communications, journalism, media, advertising, business, design or a related field, with 1 to 2 years creating social content through internships, student orgs or personal projects, and a portfolio.
• Undergraduates and graduates: Nuro says it hires students at both levels.
• Work authorization and sponsorship: neither posting says. Ask the recruiter before you apply if you need sponsorship.
Is the GPA a Hard Cutoff?
Neither posting states a GPA. The engineering posting asks for strong problem-solving and programming skills and a list of systems experience, so projects, code and coursework carry the application. The marketing posting asks for a portfolio, so your work samples matter more than a grade.

The engineering posting looks for backend and distributed-systems experience, data storage and processing, C++ and Python, machine learning and multithreading, and it names robotics frameworks and CPU, GPU or FPGA compute as relevant. What Is the Nuro Application and Interview Process Like?
Nuro doesn't publish its process, so this is what the postings and community reports show:
1. Pick a posting. Open the Software Engineer, AI Platform - Intern or Social Media Intern posting from Nuro's early careers page and apply through the Greenhouse form.
2. Online assessment (engineering). A r/csMajors poster who applied to the AI Platform intern posting got a HackerRank assessment about a month later (April 2026). A commenter disagreed on whether it's automated: one said it's mostly automatic, another said it was not for new-grad hiring.
3. Interviews. The same commenter, writing about new-grad hiring, called Nuro's interviews among the hardest they had done. Treat that as one person's account, not a published format.
4. Social media portfolio. The Social Media Intern posting asks for a portfolio, so have samples of short video, posts and a content calendar ready.

Nuro internship discussion on Reddit is thin. These are the two first-hand accounts we found, one recent and one from 2021.
An applicant to the Software Engineer, AI Platform intern posting said they received a HackerRank assessment about a month after applying. Replies disagreed on whether it's automated, and one said the interviews for new-grad hiring were among the hardest they had done.
A 2021 data science intern applicant said the interview covered their resume, then statistics, product analytics and SQL coding. They asked for a fall co-op option and were told it wasn't offered. That role isn't on Nuro's board today.
How Do You Stand Out for a Nuro Internship?
Three moves, all doable this month.
Pick a team and say why. The engineering posting lists five teams and says you may work on some or all. Tell Nuro which one you want, such as simulation or ML infrastructure, and show a project that fits it.
Show systems work, not only algorithms. The posting names distributed systems, data storage and processing, C++ and performance tuning. A project that handles real data at scale beats a list of contest problems.
For marketing, bring the portfolio. The social posting asks for samples and names the tools. Show short-form video or carousels that explain a technical idea in plain words, because the role is about translating complex ideas into clear stories.
Nuro doesn't publish an applicant count or a conversion rate, so there is no number to benchmark against.
