Last updated: October 2026
MUFG's US internship runs on two calendars, and the banking one has already closed for summer 2027. The Corporate, Investment Banking & Markets (CIB&M) Summer Intern Program took applications from August 3 to September 4, 2026, according to a mirror of the closed posting. The other half is open now. On October 12, 2026, MUFG's Early Careers job board showed eight summer 2027 Summer Analyst postings in Operations, Risk Management, Information Technology and Global Financial Crimes, across New York, Jersey City, Tampa, Tempe and Irving. In plain words: you apply during 2026, you intern in summer 2027.
Each open role is a 10-week program running June 7 to August 13, 2027, and six of the eight postings publish pay of $30 or $40 an hour. If you wanted banking or markets, your next door is summer 2028, and applications for it are expected around early August 2027.
What Is an MUFG Internship?
An MUFG internship is a paid, 10-week Summer Analyst Program at MUFG Americas, the US arm of Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, the Tokyo-based banking group. Interns join one area, such as corporate and investment banking, operations, risk management, technology or financial crimes compliance, and work in a placement group with a mentor. MUFG's postings describe the group as "one of the world's 10 largest financial institutions according to S&P Global," and its Early Careers page cites "over 360 years of Japanese heritage." MUFG Americas ranks #48 on Vault's 2026 Most Prestigious Banking Firms list. The program is written for rising seniors, and the Risk Management posting says interns can receive a full-time offer at the end. This page covers the US programs only. MUFG runs separate summer programs in London, Hong Kong and Singapore on their own calendars. Union Bank, which MUFG sold to U.S. Bancorp in 2022, is no longer part of it; our U.S. Bank internship guide covers that employer.

When Do MUFG Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
MUFG's summer 2027 postings went up in two waves. The CIB&M Summer Intern Program opened on August 3, 2026 and closed on September 4, about 10 months before a tentative May 31, 2027 start. Those dates come from a mirror of the closed New York posting, the only CIB&M posting we could check. The Operations, Risk Management, Technology and Financial Crimes postings went up between August 31 and October 8, 2026, about eight to nine months before the June 7, 2027 start, and none states a closing date. The banking timing looks stable: a candidate reported a superday for the summer 2026 banking internship in late September 2025. So applications for summer 2028 are expected around early August 2027 for CIB&M and from late August 2027 for the other tracks.
Applications for summer 2027 are open right now on four tracks: Operations (Tampa, Tempe), Risk Management (New York, Tampa, Tempe), Information Technology (Jersey City, Tempe) and Global Financial Crimes (Irving). The CIB&M program for summer 2027 closed on September 4, 2026.
Interviews for the summer 2027 corporate-function tracks. Candidates for the Jersey City technology role in 2024 reported first rounds in early November and final rounds later that month, with slow replies afterward.
The 10-week summer 2027 Summer Analyst Program on the Operations, Risk Management, Technology and Financial Crimes tracks. The Risk posting says a share of interns is placed in a three-year rotation program after graduation.
CIB&M applications for summer 2028 are expected to open and close inside about a month. The summer 2027 window ran August 3 to September 4, 2026, and the posting said applicants with no reply by September 18 hadn't been selected.
Operations, Risk Management, Technology and Financial Crimes postings for summer 2028 are expected, based on this cycle's August 31 to October 8 posting dates. Those internships would then start around June 2028.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
MUFG's two halves need different urgency. The open tracks have no published deadline. None of the eight live summer 2027 postings states a closing date, and the two Operations postings have been up since August 31, 2026. That makes them rolling in practice. With no closing date to plan around, the safe move is to apply this month. CIB&M is a hard deadline. The closed posting gave a dated window, August 3 to September 4, 2026, said the role would stay visible afterward "for administrative purposes only," and told applicants that no reply by September 18 meant they hadn't been selected. If you want banking or markets for summer 2028, have your resume ready in July 2027 and apply in the first week of August.
Which MUFG Internship Programs Should You Target?
MUFG's Early Careers page lists eight program areas. Four have summer 2027 postings open, one has closed, and three have no summer 2027 posting.
| Program | Focus | Location and published pay | Key skills |
|---|---|---|---|
| Operations Summer Analyst (open) | Commercial loans, payments, enterprise services, transformation and governance | Tampa, Tempe; $30 an hour | Excel, process improvement, analytical and research skills |
| Risk Management Summer Analyst (open) | Placement in credit risk reporting, liquidity, interest rate, operational, enterprise or quantitative risk control | New York ($40 an hour); Tampa and Tempe (pay not stated) | Excel; Tableau, SQL, Python or Power BI preferred |
| Information Technology Summer Analyst (open) | Chief Data & AI Office and Enterprise Information Security; Business Enablement Technology in Jersey City | Jersey City ($40 an hour); Tempe ($30 an hour) | Python, SQL, Java, cloud platforms, Power BI or Tableau |
| Global Financial Crimes Summer Analyst (open) | Financial crimes and core compliance: process and control documentation, data analysis | Irving, TX; $30 an hour | Excel, Visio, SharePoint, communication |
| CIB&M Summer Intern Program (closed for summer 2027) | Corporate banking, investment banking, global markets sales and trading | New York; some groups in San Francisco and Los Angeles. $45 an hour on the closed New York posting (mirror) | Finance, accounting or economics coursework; Excel, PowerPoint |
| Finance & Strategy, Internal Audit, Human Resources (no summer 2027 posting) | Program areas named on the Early Careers page | Not posted | Not posted |
The "2027 CIB&M Full-Time Analyst Program" postings on the same board are graduate jobs, not internships. Program descriptions are on the MUFG Early Careers page.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
The eight open postings and the closed CIB&M posting set these rules:
• Class year: rising seniors. Operations and Technology also accept first-year graduate students, and Operations says undergraduates are preferred.
• Graduation date: winter 2027 or spring 2028 for the summer 2027 class. Risk words it as "between December 2027 and Spring 2028."
• GPA: Risk Management and Technology require 3.0 or higher. Operations and Financial Crimes say 3.0 or above "is preferred," and CIB&M said 3.3 or above is preferred.
• Major: Risk lists business, finance, economics, accounting, supply chain management, data analytics or marketing. Technology lists information systems, computer science, data science, cybersecurity governance and related fields.
• Work authorization: every posting requires permanent US work authorization with no sponsorship now or in the future. Six of the eight add: "MUFG will not hire individuals for internships whose work eligibility is based on their F-1 or other limited student visa status." The two Operations postings carry a similar line that also covers entry-level positions.
• Work model: four days a week in an MUFG office or at client sites, one day remote.

Is the GPA a Hard Cutoff at MUFG?
It depends on the track, because the postings word it differently. Risk Management and Technology state a GPA of 3.0 or higher as a qualification, so treat it as a screen. Operations and Financial Crimes say 3.0 or above "is preferred," and the CIB&M program page says rising seniors "preferably have a GPA of 3.3 or above," which leaves room for a strong resume below the line. The work authorization rule has no such room. It's written as a flat statement in every posting, so check it before you spend time on an application.

Could You Get In at MUFG? Compare Your Profile
Based on 543 investment banking summer analysts at top investment banks from the classes of 2025 and 2026 (public LinkedIn profiles, aggregated). Six questions, under a minute.
Which summer are you applying for?
Recruiting timelines differ by class year, so we compare you with the right group.
Which group is your school closest to?
Firms recruit on campus in tiers. We match you against admits from schools like yours.
Is your major finance, economics, accounting or business?
Math and statistics count too. Major is not a hard filter, but it shifts how much your coursework has to prove.
How many internships, externships or research positions have you held so far?
Count anything with a real employer, mentor or principal investigator attached. Retail and food service do not count.
Has any of that experience been finance-related?
Banking, PE or VC, corporate finance, wealth management, equity research, accounting or consulting. Any size of firm counts.
Are you in a finance club, investment fund or case competition team?
Campus clubs are how most admits get their first deal and modelling reps.

What Skills Does MUFG Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
Across the five job descriptions we read (the four open tracks plus the closed CIB&M posting), the common core is Microsoft Excel and Office, written and verbal communication, and analytical or research skills. The tracks then split. Risk Management prefers "Tableau, SQL, Python, Microsoft Power BI." Technology asks for hands-on experience with tools such as Python, Java, SQL, cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, Snowflake) and security tooling. Operations wants "strong proficiency in Excel to research solutions to client problems" plus exposure to process design. CIB&M recommended coursework in finance, accounting or economics.

Build These Skills Before You Apply
Each MUFG skill maps to a remote Externship that gives you a finished project to discuss in interviews.
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| Process analysis and improvement | Operations: "Exposure to process design/improvement, and/or change management disciplines" | Amazon Fulfillment Center Operational Strategy & People Analytics |
| Data analysis and dashboards | Risk Management prefers "Tableau, SQL, Python, Microsoft Power BI" | Breaking Games E-Commerce Data Analysis & Strategy |
| Cybersecurity and risk identification | Technology: Enterprise Information Security "manages the bank's cybersecurity program" | Hydroficient Advanced: IoT Cyber Defense |
| AI and automation | Technology: the Chief Data & AI Office leads "the responsible adoption of AI" | Wayfair n8n AI Agent Engineering |
| Financial modeling and company research | CIB&M: coursework in finance, accounting or economics recommended | Yinan Zhao Investing & Financial Modeling |
The Operations match is the most direct: the posting asks for process improvement exposure, and an operational strategy project is a concrete example to bring.
What Is the MUFG Application and Interview Process Like?
MUFG doesn't publish a step-by-step process. Here's what the postings and candidate reports show:
1. Apply on Workday. Each city is its own posting, and the Operations posting says to "apply for the appropriate job posting for each location."
2. CIB&M screening. The closed posting said applicants with no reply by September 18, 2026, two weeks after the close, hadn't been selected for a first round.
3. First-round interview. For the Jersey City technology role in 2024, candidates who applied in late August and September reported first rounds in early November.
4. Final round. The same candidates reported final interviews later in November. On the banking side, a candidate reported a superday in late September 2025 for the summer 2026 class.
5. Offer. No timeline is published. Candidates in both threads were still waiting about two weeks after their final round.
A 2020 candidate described a 30-minute panel interview on Zoom, mostly behavioral and resume-based; our behavioral interview guide covers that format.
What Students on Reddit Say
Reddit threads about MUFG internships are few, and most are about waiting to hear back.
A candidate had a superday for the summer 2026 corporate and investment banking analyst internship in late September 2025. Two weeks later the portal still read "under consideration" and the recruiter hadn't replied.
Candidates for the Jersey City technology summer analyst role applied in late August and September 2024, had first rounds in early November and finals later that month, then waited on slow recruiter replies.
A student weighing two offers listed a 2021 MUFG Operations and Technology Summer Analyst role in Charlotte at about $30 an hour with no housing, and described a 30-minute panel interview that was mostly behavioral.
How Do You Stand Out for an MUFG Internship?
Three moves. First, clear the gates before you write anything. Check the graduation window (winter 2027 or spring 2028), the GPA line for your track and the work authorization rule, which rules out F-1 status. Second, apply to the right posting for your city and compare the pay lines. Each location is separate, and the same Technology role lists $40 an hour in Jersey City and $30 in Tempe. Third, show the tools each track names. Bring a project where you used Excel to solve a real problem for Operations, SQL or Power BI for Risk, or Python and cloud tools for Technology, and be ready to explain the result. MUFG publishes no class size, acceptance rate or conversion rate. The Risk posting says only that "a percentage of the intern cohort will be placed in a three-year rotation program."

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2027 MUFG internship?
Yes, on four tracks. As of October 12, 2026, eight summer 2027 Summer Analyst postings are open in Operations, Risk Management, Information Technology and Global Financial Crimes, with no deadline stated. The Corporate, Investment Banking & Markets program for summer 2027 closed on September 4, 2026. Its next window, for summer 2028, is expected around August 2027.
When do MUFG internship applications open for summer 2028?
CIB&M applications for summer 2028 are expected around early August 2027, since the summer 2027 window ran August 3 to September 4, 2026. Operations, Risk Management, Technology and Financial Crimes postings for summer 2028 are expected between late August and October 2027, matching this cycle's posting dates. These are projections, not confirmed dates.
Does MUFG hire interns on a rolling basis?
On the corporate-function tracks, effectively yes. None of the eight open summer 2027 postings states a closing date, and the Operations postings have been up since August 31, 2026. CIB&M is different: it ran a dated window from August 3 to September 4, 2026, and stopped taking applications at the close.
How much do MUFG interns get paid?
MUFG publishes pay in its postings. For summer 2027, Risk Management in New York and Technology in Jersey City list $40 an hour, and Operations, Global Financial Crimes and Technology in Tempe list $30. The closed CIB&M New York posting listed $45 an hour, a figure taken from a mirror of that posting.
Does MUFG sponsor visas or hire F-1 students for internships?
No. Six of the eight open postings state: "MUFG will not hire individuals for internships whose work eligibility is based on their F-1 or other limited student visa status." The two Operations postings carry a similar line, and every posting requires permanent US work authorization with no sponsorship now or in the future.
What GPA do you need for an MUFG internship?
It varies by track. Risk Management and Technology require a 3.0 or higher. Operations and Global Financial Crimes say 3.0 or above is preferred, and the CIB&M program page says rising seniors preferably have a 3.3 or above. All tracks want students graduating in winter 2027 or spring 2028 for the summer 2027 class.
Where are MUFG internships located, and are they remote?
They're in person. The summer 2027 postings are in New York, Jersey City, Tampa, Tempe and Irving, and the CIB&M program page also names San Francisco and Los Angeles for some groups. Every posting says interns work in an MUFG office or at client sites four days a week and remotely one day.
Do MUFG interns get full-time offers?
Some do, but MUFG publishes no conversion rate. The Risk Management posting says interns may receive a full-time offer upon graduation and that a percentage of the class is placed in a three-year rotation program. The CIB&M program page says top-performing summer analysts may receive an offer to join the analyst program.
Four MUFG tracks are open now with no stated deadline, and the banking window comes back around August 2027. Apply to the posting for your city, and build a project you can talk about: a remote Externship gives you finished operations, data or modeling work for your MUFG interviews.
