Lufthansa's US internships aren't a summer program. The Lufthansa Group runs paid, six-month, full-time internships in the United States with a spring intake and a fall intake and no summer intake. On October 25, 2026, three were open at Lufthansa Technik Component Services in Miami Lakes, Florida: business analytics (closes November 3), corporate procurement (November 5) and strategy and business development (November 9). The postings don't say which intake they fill or when the six months start. In plain words: if you want one of these, you apply this month, and the next intake has no published date.

Externships are short, remote programs where you finish a real project for a real company, most often in 8 weeks at 5 to 10 hours a week. The SQL & Database Architecture Externship with Breaking Games builds the SQL work the Business Analytics ad lists, and the Lean Startup Co. Corporate Strategy Externship, mentored by Eric Ries practices the market and partner analysis in the Strategy & Business Development ad. Explore all Externships.
What Is a Lufthansa Internship?
A Lufthansa internship in the US is a paid, six-month, full-time placement inside the Lufthansa Group's American operations. The program page, titled 6-Month Business Internships in the United States, lists areas such as corporate communications, B2B and B2C marketing, global market strategy, area management support, customer care, and people and crisis management, across its US operations, including New York. The three roles open today all sit at Lufthansa Technik Component Services LLC in Miami Lakes, the Component Services unit of Lufthansa Technik. Lufthansa Technik describes itself as the worldwide leading independent provider of maintenance, repair, overhaul and modification services for civil aircraft. This guide covers the US program only; Lufthansa's German student programs are outside it.

When Do Lufthansa Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
Lufthansa's US internships run on two intakes, spring and fall, not on a summer calendar. The three open postings went up between October 8 and 13, 2026 with application deadlines of November 3, 5 and 9, a window of three to four weeks. The postings give no start date, so we can't say which intake they fill; an October posting would fit a spring start, but that's our reading, not Lufthansa's. We found no earlier cycle to compare. Neither the program page nor the job ads has an archive, so we can't project the next window and won't guess one. There is no summer 2027 term to plan around.
Three US internships are open, all at Lufthansa Technik Component Services in Miami Lakes, FL. No other Lufthansa Group US internship area (communications, marketing, customer care, people and crisis management, market strategy, area management support) has a posting today.
Each posting closes on its own date: Business Analytics on November 3, Corporate Procurement on November 5 and Strategy & Business Development on November 9. Every ad needs a CV, and Business Analytics also requires a cover letter.
Selection runs in three steps: an initial conversation about motivation, availability and fit, a hiring-manager interview, then a final decision. Lufthansa doesn't publish timing between steps. Candidates who need a J-1 start that process through the Lufthansa Group NYC Global Mobility team, with the German American Chamber of Commerce as sponsor.
Each internship lasts six months, full time. The ads state no start date and don't say which intake they fill.
Lufthansa lists a spring intake and a fall intake every year. We found no prior-year postings, so there's no expected window to show. Check the portal's University internship filter and the program page.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
These are hard deadlines, not rolling reviews. Business Analytics was posted October 13 and closes November 3, Strategy & Business Development was posted October 12 and closes November 9, and Corporate Procurement was posted October 8 and closes November 5. Lufthansa doesn't say it reviews applications early, so don't assume you have until the last day. Start now if you need extra steps: the Business Analytics role requires a cover letter, and candidates who need a J-1 visa should expect to pay roughly $1,000 to $1,500 themselves.
Which Lufthansa Internship Programs Should You Target?
There's one program, but the open postings sit in three business functions. The table separates what's open from what Lufthansa lists without a posting.
| Program | Focus | Duration | Key details |
|---|---|---|---|
| Business Analytics Intern (Miami Lakes) | Power BI dashboards, SQL queries, KPI and project documentation, data models | 6 months, full time, extension possible | Closes Nov 3, 2026; Bachelor's or Master's in business analytics, engineering or related |
| Strategy & Business Development Intern (Miami Lakes) | Customer insights, competitive intelligence, product innovation, partner and supplier strategy | 6 months, full time | Closes Nov 9, 2026; business, entrepreneurship, economics, data analytics or finance |
| Corporate Procurement Intern (Miami Lakes) | Sourcing, market analysis, supplier management, RFQs, cost savings; exposure across Hamburg, Miami and Hong Kong | 6 months, full time | Closes Nov 5, 2026; business, supply chain, procurement, engineering or aviation management |
| Corporate internships (New York and other US sites) | Communications, B2B and B2C marketing, global market strategy, area management support, customer care, people and crisis management | 6 months, full time | Listed on the program page; no posting today; spring and fall intakes |
Search the Lufthansa Group career portal and read the program page for the intake and J-1 details.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
The program page sets the baseline and each ad adds its own requirements. These come from the three open postings.
• Student status: currently enrolled in an accredited university or college program, or a recent graduate who finished within the last year, subject to the posting.
• Field of study: Business Analytics wants business analytics, engineering or a related field. Strategy & Business Development wants business, entrepreneurship, economics, data analytics or finance. Procurement lists business administration, supply chain, procurement, engineering or aviation management.
• Work authorization: all three ads say you must possess a legal work permit in the US.
• J-1 route: the program page says eligibility depends on work authorization and describes a J-1 visa sponsored by the German American Chamber of Commerce, with costs of roughly $1,000 to $1,500 paid by the candidate. Read the ad's work-permit line first, since it's the stricter statement.
• Relocation and housing: none provided. Interns arrange their own housing.
• Language and GPA: fluent English in every ad; German and/or Spanish is a plus. No GPA is stated.

Do You Need German to Get a Lufthansa Internship?
No. All three open ads ask for fluent English, and German, Spanish or both appear only as a plus or as desirable; the procurement ad accepts either. What the ads do ask for is aviation interest. The analytics ad invites applicants who are passionate about aviation, and the procurement ad names aviation MRO services, so say why aircraft maintenance or airline operations draws you in.
What Skills Does Lufthansa Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
Three themes run through the three postings. Data tooling: Power BI appears in two ads, SQL and Python in the analytics ad, and Excel or Microsoft Office in all three. Analysis and communication: every ad asks for analytical thinking and for communication and interpersonal skills, and the analytics and procurement ads have interns prepare presentations and reports for management. Supplier and market work: the procurement ad lists RFQs, supplier evaluations and cost-saving analysis, and the strategy ad has interns evaluate partnerships and supplier strategies. German or Spanish helps in all three.

Build These Skills Before You Apply
Each skill in the chart maps to a remote Externship you can finish for the next intake or to talk about in an interview.
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| SQL, dashboards and data analysis | Business Analytics ad: Power BI dashboards and SQL queries | SQL & Database Architecture with Breaking Games |
| Strategy and competitive intelligence | Strategy & Business Development ad: customer insights, competitive intelligence | Corporate Strategy, mentored by Eric Ries |
| Sourcing and operations analysis | Procurement ad: market analysis, supplier evaluations, RFQs | Amazon Fulfillment Center Operational Strategy & People Analytics |
| Evaluating partners and startups | Strategy & Business Development ad: evaluate partnerships and supplier strategies | Mangusta Capital Deal Sourcing & Startup Analysis |
| Excel, cost and financial analysis | All three ads: Microsoft Office; Procurement ad: cost-saving opportunities | Attronica Financial Planning & Analysis and Private Company Valuation |
The overlap is closest for the analytics and strategy roles. Procurement is the loosest fit: no open Externship teaches RFQs or supplier negotiation, so the operations-analysis Externship is a stand-in, not a match.
What Is the Lufthansa Application and Interview Process Like?
Lufthansa describes a four-step journey on the program page. It publishes no interview questions, assessment or timing.
1. Find the posting. Search the Lufthansa Group career portal for the USA and the University internship level, or follow the links on the program page.
2. Apply online. Upload a CV; the Business Analytics ad also requires a cover letter.
3. Initial conversation. Selected candidates talk through motivation, availability and role fit.
4. Hiring-manager interview. A follow-up with the hiring team covers projects, expectations and how you would contribute.
5. Final decision. Successful candidates hear the decision and next steps. If you need a J-1, the NYC Global Mobility team starts that process.
Lufthansa doesn't say how long each step takes, so plan for the six-month commitment and your own housing before an offer arrives.
What We Found on Reddit
Nothing we can use. The Reddit threads we found mentioning Lufthansa are about flights, travel and aerospace careers elsewhere, and none is a first-hand account of a US Lufthansa Group internship. We'd rather show no quotes than borrow another program's.
How Do You Stand Out for a Six-Month Aviation Internship?
First, say why aviation. Two of the three ads name it directly, one inviting applicants who are passionate about aviation and one asking for interest in aviation MRO services, so a specific reason beats a general interest in airlines. Second, show the tools the ads name: Power BI in two, SQL and Python in the analytics ad and Excel in all three. A small dashboard or workbook you built is better evidence than a line on a resume. Third, show you can commit. Six months full time with your own Miami housing is a bigger ask than a summer, so say plainly that you can do the whole term and, if you have German or Spanish, mention it. Lufthansa doesn't publish class size, acceptance rates or a conversion rate, so we won't estimate them.

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2026 Lufthansa internship?
No, because Lufthansa Group's US internships have no summer intake. The program page lists a spring intake and a fall intake, each six months full time. What's open now is three Lufthansa Technik roles in Miami Lakes, Florida, with application deadlines of November 3, 5 and 9, 2026.
Does Lufthansa offer summer internships in the US?
Not as a named program. Lufthansa Group's US page describes six-month, full-time internships with spring and fall entry points, so a ten-week summer slot isn't offered. If you can only work May to August, this program won't fit; check whether your school allows a six-month term.
When do Lufthansa internship applications close?
Each posting has its own deadline. Business Analytics closes November 3, 2026, Corporate Procurement November 5 and Strategy & Business Development November 9. The windows ran three to four weeks. We found no prior-year postings, so the next intake's window is unknown and we don't project one.
How much does a Lufthansa internship pay?
Lufthansa says its US internship positions are paid roles, but it doesn't publish an amount on the program page or in any of the three open ads, so we don't quote one. Figures from Lufthansa's German programs or from job-search sites don't apply to US roles at Lufthansa Technik.
Who is eligible for a Lufthansa US internship?
Students enrolled at an accredited university or college, and recent graduates within the last year, subject to each posting. The three open ads also require fluent English and a legal US work permit. German or Spanish is a plus, and none of the ads states a GPA minimum.
Can international students apply?
Possibly, with conditions. The program page says eligibility depends on work authorization and describes a J-1 route sponsored by the German American Chamber of Commerce, costing candidates roughly $1,000 to $1,500. Each open ad, though, asks for a legal US work permit, so read that line first.
Do I need to speak German?
No. The three open ads require fluent English, and German or Spanish is listed as a plus or as desirable; the procurement ad accepts either. Interest in aviation matters more than language, and two ads name it directly, so explain why aircraft maintenance or airline operations interests you.
Do Lufthansa interns get full-time offers?
Lufthansa doesn't publish a conversion rate for its US internships, and the program page doesn't describe one. The Business Analytics ad mentions a possible extension of the six months. Treat any return-offer figure from Germany or job boards as unverified for US roles.
Apply before November 3, 5 or 9, depending on the role, and put the next intake on your calendar. In between, a remote Externship gives you a finished data or strategy project to discuss in the conversation Lufthansa starts with.
