Last updated: October 2026
LionTree's summer 2028 internship is open now, and it opened earlier than in past years. On October 9, 2026, the firm published two postings on its job board: the 2028 US Advisory Summer Analyst role in New York and the same role in San Francisco. Both were still live when we checked on October 12, 2026. That's about 20 months before the internship starts. In plain words: you apply in fall 2026 as a sophomore, you intern in summer 2028 as a rising senior.
Neither posting states a deadline, a pay range or a class size. What they do say: the program lasts 11 weeks, it's for rising seniors, and summer analysts "have the opportunity to receive full-time Analyst offers." If you're a junior hoping for summer 2027, no summer 2027 role is on the board.
What Is a LionTree Internship?
A LionTree internship is an 11-week summer analyst program for rising seniors at LionTree, an investment and merchant bank founded in 2012. The firm describes itself as "focused on companies in the technology, media, telecom and consumer-related industries," with offices in New York, San Francisco and London. Summer analysts join the New York or San Francisco office. The posting promises training "from LionTree professionals as well as third-party providers," work "on live client assignments alongside LionTree deal teams," a final project presented to the firm's leadership, and an assigned mentorship team. LionTree says it has "advised on over $850bn of deal volume across over 300+ transactions," including MGM's $8.5bn sale to Amazon and Take-Two's $12.7bn acquisition of Zynga. Vault ranks the firm #25 on its Banking 25 for 2026, where it's listed as LionTree LLC. The firm doesn't publish pay, class size or a return-offer rate for the program, so you won't find those numbers here.

When Do LionTree Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
LionTree's opening date has moved earlier three cycles running. The recruiting tracker Adventis dates the summer 2026 posting to January 2025 and the summer 2027 posting to December 2025; those two dates are third-party. The summer 2028 date comes from LionTree's own board: both postings were published on October 9, 2026, about 20 months before a summer 2028 start. That's roughly 17, 18 and now 20 months of lead time. Because the pattern keeps shifting, any forecast is low-confidence. Our best estimate is that applications for summer 2029 open in fall 2027, possibly earlier.
Applications for summer 2028 are open right now in New York and San Francisco, published October 9, 2026. Neither posting states a deadline. No summer 2027 role is posted.
First rounds with analysts, second rounds and superdays for summer 2028. In earlier cycles, candidates reported interviewing one to three months after the posting went up (community-reported).
Applications for summer 2029 are expected to open. Low confidence: the opening month has moved earlier in each of the last three cycles, so watch the board from late summer 2027.
The 11-week Advisory Summer Analyst program in New York or San Francisco. LionTree hasn't published start or end dates for summer 2028.
Summer analysts "have the opportunity to receive full-time Analyst offers for a post-graduation start date." The firm publishes no offer rate.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
LionTree's postings give you no date to plan around, which is the reason to move early. Neither summer 2028 posting states a deadline. The firm is small, it has two internship postings in total, and it can stop taking applications whenever its interview slots fill. Past cycles moved quickly: candidates on Wall Street Oasis describe first rounds in January and February 2025 for the cycle a tracker says was posted in January 2025 (community-reported). So a sophomore who waits until spring may find the process already finished. The second reason is the drift. The posting arrived about two months earlier in the calendar than last cycle, and at least one recruiting tracker was still expecting it in December or January. For summer 2029, check the board from late summer 2027 instead of trusting last year's date.
Which LionTree Internship Programs Should You Target?
LionTree runs one undergraduate program across two offices. Here's what is and isn't posted as of October 12, 2026.
| Program | Office | Status | What the application asks |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2028 US Advisory Summer Analyst | New York | Open, published Oct 9, 2026 | Resume, current GPA, LinkedIn profile, visa sponsorship question |
| 2028 US Advisory Summer Analyst | San Francisco | Open, published Oct 9, 2026 | Resume, cover letter, LinkedIn profile, visa sponsorship question |
| Summer 2027 Summer Analyst | New York and San Francisco | Not posted. A third-party tracker dates that cycle's posting to December 2025 | Not applicable |
| MBA summer program | Not stated | No posting live. Vault's profile says the firm's summer program also takes MBA candidates | Not applicable |
Both open roles are on the LionTree job board. You can apply to one office or both.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
LionTree's postings have no qualifications section, so the rules come from the program description and the application forms:
• Class year: the program is "for rising seniors." For summer 2028 that means current sophomores, the class of 2029.
• GPA: no floor is stated. The New York form asks "What is your current GPA?" The San Francisco form doesn't.
• Work authorization: both forms ask "Do you require visa sponsorship to work in the United States?" The postings state no sponsorship policy.
• Major: none is named.
• Materials: New York asks for a resume and a LinkedIn profile; San Francisco asks for a resume, a cover letter and a LinkedIn profile.
• MBA students: Vault's profile mentions MBA candidates, but no MBA summer posting is on the board. This page covers the undergraduate program.

Does LionTree Have a GPA Cutoff?
Not a published one. The only signal is that the New York application asks for your current GPA as a required question, which tells you it's read. The same goes for sponsorship: the form asks, but the firm doesn't say what it does with the answer. International students should ask the recruiter early instead of assuming either way.

Could You Get In at LionTree? Compare Your Profile
Based on 543 investment banking summer analysts at top investment banks from the classes of 2025 and 2026 (public LinkedIn profiles, aggregated). Six questions, under a minute.
Which summer are you applying for?
Recruiting timelines differ by class year, so we compare you with the right group.
Which group is your school closest to?
Firms recruit on campus in tiers. We match you against admits from schools like yours.
Is your major finance, economics, accounting or business?
Math and statistics count too. Major is not a hard filter, but it shifts how much your coursework has to prove.
How many internships, externships or research positions have you held so far?
Count anything with a real employer, mentor or principal investigator attached. Retail and food service do not count.
Has any of that experience been finance-related?
Banking, PE or VC, corporate finance, wealth management, equity research, accounting or consulting. Any size of firm counts.
Are you in a finance club, investment fund or case competition team?
Campus clubs are how most admits get their first deal and modelling reps.

What Skills Does LionTree Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
LionTree's postings list no required skills, so this section draws on the program description and on candidate interview reports (community-reported on Wall Street Oasis). Financial analysis: the posting says summer analysts "Obtain a strong foundation in financial analysis," and candidates describe technical first rounds on accounting and valuation, including multi-step problems. One 2024 candidate was asked about capital structure theory. Sector knowledge: the firm works in technology, media, telecom and consumer, and San Francisco candidates report technology-industry questions. Presenting your thinking: the program ends when you "Present financial and strategic analysis to the firm's leadership during your final project."
Note: No skills chart on this page: LionTree's two summer 2028 postings (New York and San Francisco, read October 12, 2026) share one program description and carry no qualifications list, so there's nothing to count. The skills above are quoted from that description and from dated candidate interview reports.

Build These Skills Before You Apply
Each skill maps to a remote Externship that gives you a finished project to talk through in interviews.

What Is the LionTree Application and Interview Process Like?
LionTree doesn't publish its interview process. The steps below combine the application forms with candidate reports from Wall Street Oasis, which are community-reported.
1. Apply on the job board. Choose New York, San Francisco or both. New York asks for your GPA; San Francisco asks for a cover letter.
2. Check your school's channel. A 2025 New York candidate described a "school specific application process," and a 2024 candidate described an on-campus information session followed by interviews the next morning.
3. First round with an analyst. One New York candidate called it "fully technical, no behavioral questions." A San Francisco candidate had a mostly behavioral first round.
4. Second round. Reports describe another analyst or an associate, with multi-step technical questions.
5. Superday. Candidates report three to six interviews, ranging from HR to a managing director, about a week after the second round in one case.
Our superday interview guide covers how to prepare for back-to-back final rounds.
What Candidates Say on Wall Street Oasis
Reddit mentions LionTree only in lists of firms, so these cards use dated, first-hand interview reports from Wall Street Oasis.
A San Francisco summer analyst candidate described a first round with an analyst, a second round with another analyst, and a superday invitation about a week later with six rounds of interviews. They accepted an offer.
A New York candidate said the process started with a school-specific application and a one-on-one first round with a new analyst that was entirely technical, with no behavioral questions.
Another New York candidate said the firm held a campus information session, then two-on-one interviews the next morning with capital structure questions that turned theoretical, then a two-hour superday of four interviews from HR to an MD.
How Do You Stand Out for a LionTree Internship?
Three moves. First, apply now and pick your office on purpose. New York and San Francisco are separate postings with different forms, and San Francisco wants a cover letter, so use it to explain why that office. Second, prepare technicals past the standard guides. Candidates report multi-step problems and, in one case, questions on capital structure theory, asked by analysts in the first round. Interviewers were described as friendly and willing to give small hints, but you still need the foundations. Third, know the sectors and the deals. The posting names transactions such as the WarnerMedia and Discovery merger and The Athletic's sale to the New York Times. Be ready to discuss two of them and what made them hard. LionTree publishes no applicant count, class size or conversion rate, so nobody can tell you the odds.

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2027 LionTree internship?
No summer 2027 role is posted on LionTree's board. A third-party recruiting tracker dates that cycle's posting to December 2025, and the board now lists only summer 2028 roles. Juniors should ask the firm's recruiters or their career office directly. Sophomores can apply to the open summer 2028 postings in New York and San Francisco.
When do LionTree internship applications open for summer 2028?
They're open now. LionTree published its New York and San Francisco postings for summer 2028 on October 9, 2026, about 20 months before the internship starts. Trackers date the two previous cycles to January 2025 and December 2025, so the opening has moved earlier each year. Summer 2029 applications are expected in fall 2027, possibly earlier.
Is there a deadline for the LionTree summer 2028 internship?
No deadline is stated. Neither the New York nor the San Francisco posting for summer 2028 gives a closing date. Candidates in earlier cycles reported first-round interviews within weeks of the posting, so treat the application as rolling and apply in October or November 2026 instead of waiting for a cutoff to be announced.
How much do LionTree summer analysts make?
LionTree doesn't publish intern pay. Neither summer 2028 posting carries a pay range, even though both offices are in places with pay transparency rules, and Vault's profile doesn't give one either. We don't print estimates from salary sites. Ask the recruiter about compensation once you reach the interview stage.
Who is eligible for the LionTree internship?
Rising seniors. For the summer 2028 program that means current sophomores, the class of 2029. The postings name no major and no GPA floor, though the New York application asks for your current GPA. Both forms ask whether you need visa sponsorship, and the firm states no sponsorship policy in the posting.
What does the LionTree application ask for?
It depends on the office. The New York form asks for a resume, your current GPA and a LinkedIn profile. The San Francisco form asks for a resume, a cover letter and a LinkedIn profile. Both ask whether you require visa sponsorship to work in the United States. You can apply to both offices.
What are LionTree interviews like?
Candidates on Wall Street Oasis describe analyst-led first and second rounds, then a superday of three to six interviews. One New York first round was fully technical with no behavioral questions; a San Francisco one was mostly behavioral. A 2024 candidate was asked theoretical capital structure questions. These accounts are community-reported, not from LionTree.
Do LionTree summer analysts get full-time offers?
They can. The posting says summer analysts "have the opportunity to receive full-time Analyst offers for a post-graduation start date," and describes the program as a realistic view of the full-time analyst job. LionTree doesn't publish how many interns receive offers, and no reliable community figure exists, so treat any rate you see as a guess.
LionTree's summer 2028 postings are live with no stated deadline. Apply now if you're a sophomore, and walk into the technical rounds with finished work: a remote Externship gives you a valuation or deal-analysis project to talk through.
