Last updated: October 2026
The IRONMAN Group puts on more than 200 events a year in over 55 countries. Its US internship program is much smaller. On 3 October 2026 its own hiring portal listed five intern openings, all in Tampa, Florida or Louisville, Colorado, and four of the five were listed as unpaid. The marketing role asks for 10 to 15 hours a week on the social channels of IRONMAN, 70.3, Rock 'n' Roll or UTMB North America. The one paid role, an accounting internship, runs 20 to 30 hours a week in the Tampa office. None of the postings names a season or a deadline. In plain words: IRONMAN hires part-time interns year-round, so apply to what's open now, and watch for spring postings if you want summer 2027.

Five part-time intern roles are open today with no deadline, so the nearest door is now. Summer 2027 roles, if IRONMAN posts them, are expected around February to April 2027.
Externships are short, remote programs where you finish a real project for a real company, most running 8 weeks at 5–10 hours a week, so one can sit alongside a part-time internship. The TikTok Social Media Content & Brand Strategy Externship builds the content skills IRONMAN's marketing intern role asks for, and the Amazon Fulfillment Center Operational Strategy & People Analytics Externship fits the warehouse and fulfillment side of the athlete service role.
What Is an IRONMAN Internship?
An IRONMAN internship is a part-time, mostly unpaid role at The IRONMAN Group, the endurance-events company behind IRONMAN, IRONMAN 70.3 and the Rock 'n' Roll Running Series, which also runs UTMB events in North America. It's owned by Advance and Orkila Capital, led by CEO Scott DeRue, and based in Tampa under the legal name World Triathlon Corporation. There's no US summer class. Each internship is a single posting with its own manager: Community Development supports the All World Athlete program, Marketing runs a race brand's social channels, Athlete Service works the Louisville warehouse and event inboxes, and Accounting learns the month-end close. The only branded summer internship program we found is IRONMAN UK's, which isn't open to US applicants in the US.

When Do IRONMAN Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
IRONMAN doesn't run a recruiting season for US interns. The roles open today first appeared on TeamWork Online between July and September 2026: Accounting on 20 July, Marketing on 9 September and Community Development on 18 September. Earlier dated postings fit the same pattern: a Tampa social media internship dated 24 February 2026 and three Tampa openings seen in late April 2022. We expect roles for summer 2027 around February to April 2027, a low-confidence range built on just two dated points. The lead time from posting to start is weeks, not months.
Applications are open right now. On 3 October 2026 IRONMAN's portal listed five intern openings: Community Development (Tampa), Marketing North America (Tampa or Louisville, CO), Athlete Service (Louisville) and Accounting (Tampa, paid). None has a deadline, so apply this week if one fits.
The TeamWork Online copies of the Marketing and Community Development listings reach that board's 30-day expiry. That isn't IRONMAN's deadline: the roles stay live on IRONMAN's own portal until they're filled.
Roles for summer 2027, if IRONMAN posts them, expected in this range. Past examples: a Tampa social media internship dated 24 February 2026 and three Tampa openings in late April 2022. Each posting fills on its own, so check the portal every couple of weeks.
Reviews and starts happen role by role. If the knockout questions screen you out, the portal keeps your application active for 30 days and asks you not to reapply in that time.
Peak race season, when marketing and athlete service teams are busiest. Internships run part-time around your schedule. IRONMAN doesn't publish a return-offer rate.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
This is a rolling program in the plainest sense: every role is a single posting that stays up until someone fills it. None of the five postings we read on 3 October 2026 carries a closing date, so the only deadline is the day a manager says yes to someone else. The marketing posting is hiring three people across two offices, and the other roles are single seats. Date stamps on TeamWork Online look like deadlines, but they're that board's automatic 30-day expiry. If a role fits, apply in the first week you see it, and keep checking IRONMAN's portal, since new roles appear without notice.
Which IRONMAN Internship Programs Should You Target?
These are the four role types open on 3 October 2026. The marketing role is posted twice, once per office.
| Role | Focus | Hours and pay | Key skills |
|---|---|---|---|
| Community Development Intern (Tampa) | All World Athlete inbox, athlete emails and newsletters, swim cap ordering and inventory | Part-time; unpaid | Customer service, writing, Microsoft Office, organization |
| Marketing Intern, North America (Tampa or Louisville, CO) | Social channels for IRONMAN, 70.3, Rock 'n' Roll or UTMB North America; copy, scheduling, influencer outreach, reels | 10–15 hrs/week; unpaid; some weekends | Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook; Photoshop a plus |
| Athlete Service Intern (Louisville, CO) | Warehouse fulfillment and shipments, event inboxes, drafting customer replies | Onsite about once a week; unpaid; academic credit where applicable | Attention to detail, writing, lifting up to 50 lb |
| Accounting Intern (Tampa) | Month-end close, journal entries, account and bank reconciliations, general ledger reports | 20–30 hrs/week in office; paid part-time (rate not published) | Accounting or finance major, organization |
Open roles change often. The live list is on IRONMAN's job portal, linked from ironman.com/about/careers.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
The postings set education and on-site rules and leave several things unstated.
• Education: Athlete Service wants a student pursuing a Bachelor's in business, event or sport management, hospitality or communications, while Community Development also takes recent graduates and Accounting needs an accounting or finance major.
• Location: in person in Tampa or Louisville, Colorado. Every one of the five postings is marked not remote, and the Accounting role specifically requires in-office work.
• Pay: four of the five roles are unpaid, so check with your school about academic credit before you accept.
• Work authorization and GPA: not stated in any intern posting we read.
• Physical: Athlete Service involves lifting and moving materials up to 50 pounds at the warehouse.

Should You Take an Unpaid IRONMAN Internship?
It depends on what you need from it. The unpaid roles are part-time, so many students pair one with a paid job or classes, and the Athlete Service posting says it's meant to complement your academic program and offer credit where applicable. If you need income, the Accounting Intern is the only paid role open right now. Ask about the schedule, credit and expected hours before you accept, and get them in writing.
What Skills Does IRONMAN Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
Across the four role descriptions open on 3 October 2026, organization and attention to detail appear in every one. Written communication and interest in endurance sports come next. The rest splits by role: social platforms and Photoshop for marketing, customer service and inbox work for community development and athlete service, inventory and fulfillment for the warehouse side, and month-end close basics for accounting.

Build These Skills Before You Apply
Each skill in the chart maps to a remote Externship you can finish while you apply.
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| Social content for a brand | Marketing: "create engaging content and copy for social media", reels on trending audio | TikTok Social Media Content & Brand Strategy |
| Audience and athlete insight | Community Development: help identify recurring athlete concerns | Consumer Behavior Insights with Generous Brands |
| Fulfillment and operations | Athlete Service: preparing shipments, inventory tasks, fulfillment processes | Amazon Fulfillment Center Operational Strategy & People Analytics |
| Accounting and financial reporting | Accounting: trial balances, financial statements, account reconciliations | Attronica Financial Planning & Analysis |
A finished project gives a short cover letter something concrete to point at, which matters when a manager is filling one seat.
What Is the IRONMAN Application and Interview Process Like?
The steps below come from IRONMAN's own portal; the interview format isn't published.
1. Start from ironman.com. The careers page links to IRONMAN's job portal, run under the name World Triathlon Corporation. Use that link rather than a copy on another board.
2. Pick the role and office. Marketing asks you to choose between the Tampa and Louisville offices, and each race brand sits with its own product marketing manager.
3. Answer the knockout questions. If your answers don't match, the portal keeps your application active for 30 days and asks you not to reapply in that window.
4. Wait for a call or email. The contact on the postings is the People team at peopleteam@ironman.com.
5. Agree hours and credit. Confirm weekly hours, weekend needs and any academic credit before you start.
A 2024 r/Scams thread found an IRONMAN event-staff listing posted by a look-alike account on a third-party board. If a recruiter contacts you, check the role exists on IRONMAN's portal first.
What Students on Reddit Say
Reddit has no first-hand IRONMAN intern reviews, so these cards come from triathlon and job-search threads that touch on its roles.
A sport management student asked how to get into triathlon work. Commenters said to go for event companies, with IRONMAN as the goal, and to volunteer at races to show commitment, but warned it's a passion industry that pays very little.
One commenter spotted three IRONMAN intern openings in Tampa and pointed the student to a global operations intern role that looked fully remote and eligible for college credit. Today's five roles are all in person.
An applicant worried an IRONMAN event-staff listing was a scam because it came from a second account under the same name. Commenters said a real payroll site and an ironman.com email were good signs, and the safest check was to contact IRONMAN through its own website.
How Do You Stand Out for an IRONMAN Internship?
Three moves, all doable this month. First, show you know the brands. The marketing role covers IRONMAN, 70.3, Rock 'n' Roll and UTMB North America, so name the one you'd want to run and say what you'd post for its next race. Second, bring proof. For marketing, a link to reels or an account you grew beats a list of platforms; for accounting, mention reconciliations or Excel work from class. Third, show up at a race. Volunteering at an aid station or packet pickup is the clearest sign of interest triathlon people point to, and it gives you a real story for the interview. IRONMAN doesn't publish applicant counts or a conversion rate, so treat each seat as a single hire.

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2026 IRONMAN internship?
Summer 2026 is over, and IRONMAN doesn't run a US summer class anyway. You can apply right now: on 3 October 2026 its portal listed five part-time intern roles in Tampa and Louisville, Colorado, with no deadline. Roles for summer 2027, if posted, are expected around February to April 2027.
Are IRONMAN internships paid?
Mostly not. Four of the five roles open on 3 October 2026 are listed as unpaid: Community Development, both Marketing North America postings and Athlete Service. The Accounting Intern in Tampa is paid part-time, but the rate isn't published. The Athlete Service posting mentions academic credit where your school allows it.
When should I apply for a summer 2027 IRONMAN internship?
Watch IRONMAN's portal from about February to April 2027, when past spring postings appeared, though that's a low-confidence estimate from two data points. Roles are posted one at a time and stay open until filled, with no deadline. If a current role fits, applying now is the surest way in.
How many hours a week is an IRONMAN internship?
It depends on the role. Marketing asks for 10 to 15 hours a week, plus some weekends. The paid Accounting Intern role is 20 to 30 hours a week, all of it in the Tampa office, the biggest commitment of the five. Athlete Service means about one onsite day a week in Louisville.
Where are IRONMAN internships located?
Tampa, Florida, where IRONMAN has its headquarters, and Louisville, Colorado, where it has an office and warehouse. None of the five open roles is remote. IRONMAN has offices in Australia, New Zealand and Europe, but none had intern postings on its portal that day.
Is there a GPA requirement for IRONMAN internships?
No GPA appears in any of the intern postings we read. They ask for a degree in progress in business, marketing, communications, sport or event management, hospitality or a related field, and an accounting or finance major for the Accounting role. Organization, writing and real interest in endurance sports matter most.
How do I know an IRONMAN internship listing is real?
Start from ironman.com/about/careers, which links to IRONMAN's own job portal under the name World Triathlon Corporation. Copies appear on boards like TeamWork Online, and a 2024 Reddit thread found a look-alike account posting an IRONMAN job. The postings list peopleteam@ironman.com as the contact.
Does IRONMAN hire interns full time after the internship?
IRONMAN doesn't publish a conversion rate or promise return offers. It does post entry roles in Tampa, such as Assistant Planner and Operations Coordinator, that an intern could apply to later. Doing well in a part-time role and building contacts on one team is the realistic path.
IRONMAN's intern roles are open now and fill one seat at a time. While you apply, a remote Externship gives you a finished project to point at.
