What Is a Flex Internship?

A Flex internship is a paid, full-time, in-person engineering or operations assignment at one of the company’s US manufacturing and design sites. Most current openings are semester-length co-ops rather than traditional summer internships, and Flex posts them on a rolling basis across Fall, Winter/Spring, and Summer terms. The company is a four-time Ethisphere World’s Most Ethical Companies honoree and holds a 3.8 out of 5 rating on Glassdoor with 71 percent of reviewers recommending it to a friend. Flex is also preparing to spin off its Cloud and Power Infrastructure segment into an independent publicly traded company (informally called SpinCo), which will focus on AI data center and mission-critical infrastructure while Flex continues as a global advanced manufacturing leader. For students interested in electronics, medical devices, or large-scale manufacturing, Flex offers hands-on exposure that few companies of its scale can match.

Fall 2026 – Winter 2027

Fall 2026 co-ops begin at Orangeburg SC. Winter 2027 co-ops begin in January at Hollis NH. If you missed the current wave, watch the Workday portal for the next term’s postings. Flex posts co-ops roughly one to three months before each term starts.

Jan – Apr 2027EXPECTED

Summer 2027 internship postings are expected to appear. Flex’s blog says summer programs run May through August. Apply as soon as you see a posting that matches your skills; roles fill individually and there is no batch review.

May – Aug 2027

Summer 2027 internships run 10 to 12 weeks, paid, in person at a Flex US site. Community-reported pay is approximately $20–$26 per hour. Expect sites in Orangeburg SC, Hollis NH, and potentially other US locations such as Austin or Milpitas.

Jun – Dec 2027

The cycle repeats. Fall 2027 co-op postings are expected around June to August 2027 for assignments starting in September. Flex hires across every term, so missing one window means the next is only months away.

How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.

Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open

Every one of Flex’s nine live US job descriptions says applications continue “until the position is filled,” and some add that postings may close sooner due to application volume. There is no batch review date and no late entry once a role closes. Flex posts co-ops just one to three months before the term starts, so the only reliable signal is the Workday portal itself. Join the Beamery Talent Community and check the board regularly, because the window between a posting going live and a role filling can be short.

Which Flex Internship Programs Should You Target?

Flex does not run a single named internship program. It posts individual co-op and internship requisitions by function and site, and all nine live US positions fall into seven distinct engineering and operations tracks.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

These requirements appeared consistently across all nine live US co-op and internship postings, read in full on 23 August 2026.

Current enrollment at a four-year accredited university — every JD requires this, with at least one specifying junior or senior standing.

Minimum 3.0 GPA — stated identically in all nine postings. No role asks for a higher minimum.

No visa sponsorship — all nine US postings state “Is Sponsorship Available? No.” Flex’s FAQ says sponsorship is assessed “on a case-by-case basis,” but the US job descriptions are unambiguous.

Available 40 hours per week, in person — every posting requires full-time, on-site attendance for the duration of the assignment.

Major aligned to the role — engineering disciplines (electrical, mechanical, industrial) for engineering tracks; supply chain, business, or operations for operations tracks.

Does Flex Have a GPA Cutoff for Interns?

Yes. Every one of the nine live US co-op postings requires a minimum GPA of 3.0, and no posting asks for a higher threshold. This is a hard gate rather than a preference: Flex lists it as a formal requirement in every job description. A 3.0 clears the bar for every track at both the Orangeburg manufacturing site and the Hollis medical device design center.

What Skills Does Flex Look For, and How Do You Build Them?

Across all nine live Flex US co-op and intern job descriptions, collaborative teamwork and communication appeared in every single posting. Data analysis and reporting showed up in eight of nine, reflecting how deeply Flex embeds metrics-driven work even in hands-on engineering roles. Problem-solving, Microsoft Office proficiency, and documentation skills each appeared in seven of nine postings. The split between the Hollis medical-device site (oscilloscopes, LabVIEW, SolidWorks) and the Orangeburg manufacturing site (Lean, takt time, ERP) means the specific tools differ sharply by location.

What Is the Flex Application and Interview Process Like?

Flex’s application process runs through Workday with no umbrella application and no standardized online assessment.

1. Go to the Workday portal. flextronics.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/Careers is the source of truth. Use the intern/co-op filter or Flex’s own filtered link to see only student positions.

2. Join the Beamery Talent Community. Sign up at pages.beamery.com because Flex posts on a rolling basis and does not announce application windows. This is the only early-warning mechanism Flex offers.

3. Apply to a specific role. Each co-op and internship is a separate requisition with its own site, function, and term. Flex’s FAQ says to create an account after your first application to simplify future ones.

4. Customize your resume for the site. Hollis NH wants circuit design, oscilloscopes, LabVIEW, and SolidWorks for medical device work. Orangeburg SC wants Lean, data analysis, and manufacturing experience. Applying to the wrong site with the wrong resume is a wasted application.

5. Interview. Glassdoor rates the Flex intern interview at 2.9 out of 5 difficulty with roughly 59 to 67 percent of candidates reporting a positive experience. Common stages include a phone screen and a one-on-one technical interview. No online assessment or coding test was found.

Check your application status through Workday at any time. For more details, read Flex’s candidate FAQ.

What Students on Reddit Say

Flex intern discussion on Reddit is sparse compared to larger tech companies, but a few threads offer useful context.

One commenter noted that Flex took over hardware development at a Vancouver office and described close collaboration with the San Jose team. The limited number of responses suggests Flex internships receive far less Reddit attention than FAANG or startup positions.

How Do You Stand Out at Flex?

First, match your application to the site. The Hollis NH “Farm” design center builds medical devices from home-health wearables to surgical robotics; name SolidWorks, LabVIEW, or PCB layout experience if you apply there. Orangeburg SC runs server assembly and fulfillment, so Lean Six Sigma certification, takt-time analysis, or ERP familiarity makes that resume stand out. Second, apply the day a posting appears. Flex fills roles individually with no batch review, and some postings warn they may close early due to volume. Third, show you understand the business context: Flex is preparing to spin off its Cloud and Power Infrastructure segment into SpinCo, which means AI data-center engineering is growing fast while the core company doubles down on healthcare, automotive, and industrial manufacturing. Demonstrating awareness of where the company is headed signals that you have done more homework than the next applicant.
