Excel Sports Management calls itself the largest independent sports agency, and its internship is a paid, semester-long, hybrid program in New York. The fall program has had the same shape two years running: applications close in the second half of August, the program starts in mid-September, and interns work 24 to 29.9 hours a week. Here's the cycle in plain words: you apply in July or August 2027, and you intern in fall 2027. Fall 2026 paid $17.00 an hour on the four New York postings we read. On 17 October 2026 no internship was open, so you're early, not late.

What Is an Excel Sports Management Internship?

An Excel Sports Management internship is a paid, semester-long role at the New York-based talent and marketing agency, which describes itself on its careers page as the largest independent sports agency, representing talent, brands and properties. The fall 2026 postings call it the intern program, and the fall 2025 postings called it the associate program, but both are the same student cohort: hybrid roles of 24 to 29.9 hours a week, each in one division, with lunch and learns about the others. Excel has offices in New York, Los Angeles, Irvine, Miami, Chicago, Dallas, Charlotte, London and Geneva. It isn't Microsoft Excel, and it isn't a team front office.

When Do Excel Sports Management Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?

Excel's calendar is short-lead. The fall 2025 postings were visible by 1 August 2025 and applications closed on 22 August 2025, for a program that ran 22 September to 12 December. The fall 2026 postings were visible by 29 July 2026 and closed on 14 August 2026, for a program that ran 14 September to 10 December. That's about a month and a half to two months from posting to start. We couldn't establish the exact posting day for either year, only when the postings were first visible, so the July 2027 expectation comes from two dated cycles.

Now · October 2026YOU ARE HERE

No Excel internship is open. The fall 2026 program is under way, having started on 14 September 2026, and the company's Greenhouse board listed 16 jobs on 17 October 2026, none an internship or student role.

~Late July to mid-August 2027EXPECTEDSHORT WINDOW — APPLY WEEK 1

Applications for the fall 2027 program are expected to be visible by about late July 2027 and to close in mid to late August. Both dated cycles gave a stated close date within about three weeks of the postings appearing.

~Mid to late August 2027EXPECTED

Offers are expected in mid to late August, as the fall 2026 postings said. Excel posts a role per division, so apply to the one that fits.

~Mid-September to December 2027EXPECTED

The fall 2027 semester program is expected to start in mid to late September and end in mid-December, at 24 to 29.9 hours a week, as in 2025 and 2026.

How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.

Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open

Excel's fall window is short and has a stated close date. Fall 2026 postings were visible on 29 July and closed on 14 August, and fall 2025 postings were visible on 1 August and closed on 22 August, so each window was open roughly two to three weeks at most. Offers were expected within days of the close, in mid to late August. Nothing we read promises late applications will be considered. Check the Greenhouse board from the middle of July 2027, and apply to your division's role in the first week.

Which Excel Sports Management Internship Programs Should You Target?

Excel posts one role per division. These are the roles we could read on the company's own Greenhouse pages for the last two fall cohorts.

Find every role on the Excel Greenhouse board. Excel's other roles, such as agent, coordinator and director jobs, are full-time positions, not internships.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

From the fall 2025 and fall 2026 postings:

• Class standing: senior standing in college (completed junior year), current graduate students, or those who hold a bachelor's or postgraduate degree.

• Hours: available for fewer than 30 hours a week, 24 to 29.9, between about 9:00 am and 6:00 pm ET on weekdays or as agreed with your advisor.

• Location: in the New York office about three days a week; Properties roles are also in Los Angeles. Housing and transportation are your responsibility.

• Visa: the postings state the position isn't eligible for sponsorship.

• GPA and academic credit: not stated on the postings we read.

Do You Have to Be a Graduate?

No. Seniors who have finished their junior year qualify, as do current graduate students, so you can apply for fall 2027 while you're still in school. A bachelor's degree is one of three ways to qualify, not a requirement. The one hard limit is work authorization, because the postings say the role isn't eligible for visa sponsorship.

What Skills Does Excel Sports Management Look For, and How Do You Build Them?

Excel's postings are division-specific. The Communications posting for fall 2026 listed writing press releases and media pitches, monitoring coverage, building media lists and working in Cision, and asked for storytelling, organization, collaboration and integrity. We read the other divisions' postings less fully, so we don't list their requirements. Across the program, interns work with one division and learn about the others through lunch and learns held throughout the semester.

Note: No skills chart on this page: Excel had no internship open on 17 October 2026, and we read too few closed postings in full to chart. The skills above are quoted from the fall 2026 Communications posting.

What Is the Excel Sports Management Application and Interview Process Like?

Excel doesn't publish an interview format. This is what the postings show:

1. Watch the board from mid-July. Both dated cycles had postings visible by the end of July or the first of August.

2. Apply to a division. Each division posts its own role, and the 2025 batch had many divisions.

3. Check the basics. Confirm your class standing, that you can work under 30 hours a week, and that you don't need visa sponsorship.

4. Interview. Stages aren't published. Offers were expected in mid to late August 2026.

5. Start in September. The program began 14 September 2026, with lunch and learns across divisions during the semester.

What Students on Reddit Say

We found no first-hand Reddit threads about the Excel internship. The matches were automated reposts of job ads, so there are no community cards on this page.

How Do You Stand Out for an Excel Internship?

Three moves. First, be ready by mid-July 2027, because both dated cycles closed within about three weeks of the postings appearing. Second, apply to the division you can show work for. Communications wants writing, pitching and media lists, so a short pitch or press-release sample helps, and creative divisions are best served by a portfolio. Third, plan the logistics: the role is in New York about three days a week, interns arrange their own housing and transportation, and it isn't eligible for visa sponsorship. Excel doesn't publish a class size or conversion rate, so treat the internship as the goal and ask about full-time paths once you're in.

FAQ

Can I still apply for a fall 2026 Excel Sports Management internship?

No. Fall 2026 applications closed on 14 August 2026, and the program started on 14 September. Excel had no internship open on 17 October 2026. The next fall cohort is expected to post around July 2027, after fall 2025 and fall 2026 both posted by the end of July.

When do Excel Sports Management internship applications open?

For fall 2027, expect them around July 2027. Fall 2026 postings were visible by 29 July and closed 14 August, and fall 2025 postings were visible by 1 August and closed 22 August. We couldn't establish the exact posting day, only when the postings were first visible.

Are Excel Sports Management internships paid?

Yes. Fall 2026 paid $17.00 an hour on the four New York postings we read. Fall 2025 paid $16.50 an hour for Communications, Properties in New York and Speakers, $16.20 for Analytics and $19.65 for Properties in Los Angeles, according to the postings.

Who can apply for an Excel Sports Management internship?

Seniors who have completed their junior year, current graduate students, and people who hold a bachelor's or postgraduate degree. You must be available fewer than 30 hours a week and in the New York office about three days a week. The postings say the role isn't eligible for visa sponsorship.

How many hours a week is the Excel internship?

24 to 29.9 hours a week, per the postings, typically between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm ET on weekdays or as agreed with your advisor. It's a semester program: fall 2026 ran 14 September to 10 December, about 12 weeks, and fall 2025 ran 22 September to 12 December.

Where is the Excel Sports Management internship located?

New York, hybrid, with about three days a week in the office. Properties roles are also posted in Los Angeles. Excel's postings say interns are responsible for their own transportation and housing, which matters for the budget in an expensive city.

Does Excel Sports Management have a summer internship?

We couldn't verify one. The two cohorts we confirmed on Excel's own Greenhouse pages are in the fall, and aggregator listings mentioning a summer role aren't from Excel. Watch the Greenhouse board for a summer posting, but plan around the fall program.

Is Excel Sports Management the same as Microsoft Excel?

No. Excel Sports Management is an independent sports talent and marketing agency headquartered in New York, with its own careers page and Greenhouse board. Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet program. Searching the agency's full name, or its Greenhouse board, is the quickest way to find its internship postings.

Excel's fall window is expected in July 2027, so the best use of the next few months is a finished project and a clean résumé. A remote Externship takes about 5 to 10 hours a week and gives you something real to show.
