Last updated: October 2026
DeciBio's internship for summer 2027 is open now, and it has an unusual gate: you need a life science major. The role is called Life Science Summer Analyst (2027). On October 12, 2026, it was the only internship on the DeciBio job board, based at the Los Angeles headquarters and first published on August 14, 2026. The posting states the pay, $1,500 a week for 10 weeks, and opens with a requirement in capital letters that applicants be dedicated to the life sciences by field of study and work history. In plain words: you apply during fall 2026, you intern in summer 2027.
There's no published deadline, and the odds are long. DeciBio says on its interviewing page that "less than one percent of candidates receive offers" across its hiring. The firm is also running three free Info Session & Case Prep webinars this fall, on October 14, October 28 and November 11, 2026.
What Is a DeciBio Internship?
A DeciBio internship is a paid, 10-week summer role called Life Science Summer Analyst, in which a life science student works on strategy consulting projects for companies in precision medicine. DeciBio Consulting is an independent firm headquartered in Los Angeles, with offices in New York, the Bay Area and London. Its about page says all of its cases cover clinical diagnostics, research tools, pharma and biotech, or health technology, and that every DeciBio consultant has a life sciences degree. The posting says interns "are awarded the same responsibilities as Analysts."
DeciBio ranks #33 on the Vault Consulting 50 for North America (2026 edition), and Vault's 2026 profile also places it #4 among the most selective consulting firms. One correction: the posting still mentions a "#1 in Innovation" Vault ranking. That was a 2023 result, and Vault's 2026 list puts DeciBio at #7 for innovation.

When Do DeciBio Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
Applications for summer 2027 opened on August 14, 2026, the date the posting was first published, and they were still open on October 12, 2026. With a 10-week program starting around June 2027, that's a lead time of about 10 months. DeciBio publishes no closing date. The same board lists three Info Session & Case Prep webinars, on October 14, October 28 and November 11, 2026, which suggests recruiting runs at least into mid-November. The posting title changes its year each cycle ("2026," then "2027"), so applications for summer 2028 are expected around mid-August 2027. That estimate rests on one dated cycle.
Applications for summer 2027 are open right now for the Life Science Summer Analyst role in Los Angeles. The posting has been live since August 14, 2026 and states no deadline.
Three Info Session & Case Prep webinars on Zoom: October 14, October 28 and November 11, 2026, each at 4:00pm Pacific. Sign up through the job board. They cover the hiring process and work through a case.
Interviews for summer 2027: a one-way video case, a live remote interview, a case simulation presented to the Hiring Committee, then a final meet and greet. The firm aims to decide within two weeks of each interview. Exact dates aren't published.
The 10-week internship at the Los Angeles headquarters, with a start date that fits your academic calendar and a possible extension to 12 weeks.
Applications for summer 2028 are expected to open, projected from the August 14, 2026 posting date. Look for a posting titled "Life Science Summer Analyst (2028)."
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
DeciBio's hiring is rolling in practice. The summer 2027 posting has no closing date, and the firm's interviewing page says its Hiring Committee "strives to deliver a decision within two weeks of any completed interview." Candidates who apply earlier reach the later rounds earlier, and a 51-to-100-person firm, the size Vault lists, has few intern seats to give.
The firm is also frank about volume. "In a typical recruiting season, the majority of candidates will not receive a 1st round interview," it says, and fewer than 2% of those who do get a first interview make it past the third round. With numbers like that, a late application has little room. Apply while the posting is up, and use one of the three webinars to see a worked case before your own.
Which DeciBio Internship Programs Should You Target?
DeciBio has one internship. The full-time Analyst posting is open at the same time, so pick by graduation date.
| Role | Who it's for | Location | Pay and status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Life Science Summer Analyst (2027), the internship | Undergraduate or graduate life science students graduating by August 2028 | Los Angeles headquarters | $1,500 a week for 10 weeks; open, posted Aug 14, 2026 |
| Life Science Summer Analyst (2028) | Life science students, graduation cutoff to be set | Expected Los Angeles | Not posted; expected around mid-Aug 2027 |
| Life Science Analyst & Sr. Analyst (full-time) | Life science graduates starting in 2026 or 2027 | Los Angeles or Bay Area; New York in special cases | $86,000 base for Analysts plus profit sharing; open |
| Info Session & Case Prep webinar | Anyone considering an application | Zoom | Free sign-up; Oct 14, Oct 28 and Nov 11, 2026 |
There's no separate MBA or PhD summer program: graduate students apply to the same posting. Everything is on the DeciBio open positions page.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
The summer 2027 posting sets these rules:
• Field of study: life sciences, shown by both your major and your work history. The posting gives bioengineering, biology, biochemical engineering and molecular biology as examples.
• Degree and class year: "on track for an undergraduate or graduate degree in an applicable Life Science field, graduating by August 2028." That's an upper limit only, so no class year is ruled out by name.
• Work authorization: "Authorization to lawfully work in the United States." The posting adds that "most US positions do not qualify for visa sponsorship."
• Skills: strong presentation, writing and analysis, including in Microsoft Office.
• GPA: no number is published. There's no cover letter either: short-answer questions replace it.

Can You Apply to DeciBio Without a Science Degree?
No, and the firm explains why. Its hiring FAQs say "our projects regularly cover complex technologies," and the about page says every consultant has a life sciences degree. A business or economics major without science training is outside the stated requirement. The reverse gap is the one most applicants have: the posting also asks for a visible "interest in business strategy." If your resume is all lab work, add something that shows the business side, such as a case competition, a consulting club project or a strategy Externship.

What Skills Does DeciBio Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
We read the summer 2027 internship posting, the full-time Analyst posting and DeciBio's interviewing page. The two postings list the same case work: primary research ("guide and conduct primary research campaigns," meaning expert interviews), secondary research in technical publications, Excel models and PowerPoint presentations that you present to clients. All three sources name the traits the firm screens for: emotional intelligence and business intuition, analytical rigor, and an entrepreneurial hunger. The interviewing page adds one concrete skill to practice, market sizing.

Build These Skills Before You Apply
DeciBio wants science training plus business proof. These remote Externships build the business half.
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| Interest in business strategy | Posting: a proven "interest in business strategy" | Lean Startup Co. Corporate Strategy, mentored by Eric Ries |
| Secondary research in technical documents | Posting: "reviewing technical and professional publications" | Pfizer Advanced: AI-Powered Document Insights & Data Extraction |

For most biology and bioengineering majors the strategy row matters most, because the science is already on the transcript.
What Is the DeciBio Application and Interview Process Like?
DeciBio publishes its process on its interviewing page. Most candidates see up to three remote rounds plus a final meet and greet:
1. Apply with short answers. There's no cover letter. The firm says most candidates in a typical season won't get a first-round interview, so the short answers carry real weight.
2. First round: one-way video. A recorded, case-based interview. The firm may skip it when it's moving a candidate quickly.
3. Second round: live remote interview with a team or management member, again largely case-based with some behavioral questions.
4. Third round: case simulation. You present to the Hiring Committee at the end of a case exercise.
5. Final round: meet and greet with management and the team, held remotely or at the local office. The firm says most final-round candidates receive offers.
DeciBio's own casing advice is to understand market sizing and to think for yourself instead of reciting memorized frameworks. Our behavioral interview guide covers the fit questions that run through each round.
What Employees Say on Vault
Reddit has no first-hand account of the DeciBio internship; the threads we found only name the firm in passing. These cards come from Vault's 2026 employee survey, so they're staff voices, not interns.
A respondent described hiring as four stages and extremely competitive: a one-way video interview, an online case interview, an online job simulation and an in-person culture and fit interview.
On culture, a respondent praised the camaraderie and said the hours can be long, which they saw as normal for consulting.
How Do You Stand Out When Fewer Than 1% of Candidates Get Offers?
That figure is DeciBio's own, for candidates across its hiring, not an internship acceptance rate. Three moves follow from how the firm screens. First, write the short answers like they're the interview. They replace the cover letter, and they decide whether you get a first round at all. Second, go to a webinar. The Info Session & Case Prep sessions on October 14, October 28 and November 11, 2026 walk through a case and the hiring process, and the sign-up is on the job board. Third, practice out loud and on camera. The first round is a recorded video case, and the third ends in a presentation. Size a market you know from your coursework, such as a diagnostic test or a sequencing tool, and explain your reasoning in your own words. DeciBio doesn't publish a class size or a return-offer rate.

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2026 DeciBio internship?
No. The summer 2026 Life Science Summer Analyst posting is closed and that program is over. The open door is summer 2027: the Life Science Summer Analyst (2027) posting in Los Angeles has been live since August 14, 2026, with no stated deadline. Full-time Analyst roles starting in 2026 or 2027 are also posted.
When do DeciBio internship applications open for summer 2027?
They're open now. DeciBio published the summer 2027 posting on August 14, 2026, about 10 months before a June 2027 start, and it was still live on October 12, 2026. For summer 2028, expect a new posting around mid-August 2027, an estimate based on this one dated cycle.
Is there a deadline for the DeciBio internship?
No deadline is published. The posting states no closing date, and the firm says it aims to decide within two weeks of each interview, so hiring moves as applications arrive. Its case prep webinars run through November 11, 2026, but nothing promises the posting stays up that long. Apply in October.
How much does the DeciBio internship pay?
The summer 2027 posting says summer analysts are paid $1,500 a week. Over the standard 10 weeks that's $15,000, or $18,000 if your internship is extended to 12 weeks. The posting doesn't state weekly hours and doesn't mention housing or relocation. The full-time Analyst posting lists an $86,000 base salary.
Do I need a science degree for a DeciBio internship?
Yes. Applicants must be on track for an undergraduate or graduate degree in a life science field, and the posting names bioengineering, biology, biochemical engineering and molecular biology as examples. DeciBio says all of its consultants have a life sciences degree because its projects cover complex technologies. Business majors without science training don't meet the requirement.
What is the DeciBio interview process?
DeciBio describes up to three remote rounds plus a final meet and greet. The first is a one-way video case, the second a live interview, and the third a case simulation that ends with a presentation to the Hiring Committee. The firm says most final-round candidates receive offers, and it aims to decide within two weeks.
Does DeciBio sponsor visas for interns?
Probably not. The posting requires authorization to lawfully work in the United States and says most US positions don't qualify for visa sponsorship. It doesn't name an exception for the summer role. International students should confirm their own work authorization with their school before they spend time on the application.
Do DeciBio summer analysts get full-time offers?
DeciBio doesn't publish how many summer analysts return full-time. The posting says interns get the same responsibilities as Analysts, and the full-time Analyst posting is open for 2027 starts with candidates evaluated case by case. So the summer is a direct look at the full-time job, but an offer isn't promised.
DeciBio's one internship posting is open, with no deadline and a life science requirement. Apply, sign up for a case prep webinar, and add business proof to your science resume: a remote Externship gives you a finished strategy or healthcare data project to talk about.
