Last updated: October 2026
Children's Healthcare of Atlanta doesn't run one internship. Each summer it posts a separate requisition for each department that wants an intern (strategic planning, the Investment Office, HR, marketing, cybersecurity, quality and more), and they arrive in one short burst. For summer 2026 the first wave went up between 13 and 21 November 2025, five weeks earlier than the year before. In plain words: you apply in late 2026, you intern in summer 2027.
None of the summer-2027 roles is posted today (3 October 2026), and the start date has swung by about ten weeks across the last four cycles, so watch the board from early November. Nursing students have a different door that's open right now: the paid Nurse Extern Program's winter cohort.

Extern's Externships are short, remote project programs run by Extern, unrelated to Children's own Nurse Extern Program, which is a paid hospital job for nursing students. Most run 8 weeks at 5–10 hours a week, so one fits before the November postings. The Arceh Children's Environmental Health Analytics Externship builds the pediatric data skills planning and data interns use, and the Healthcare Operations Consulting Externship covers the process work behind the quality and practice-operations roles. What Is a Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Internship?
A Children's Healthcare of Atlanta internship is a summer role in one of the system's nonclinical departments, from strategic planning and investments to marketing, HR, IT security and hospital quality. Every posting carries the same program line: interns work "on meaningful projects alongside Children's professionals," with duties that can include project management, event planning, database management, research and analysis.
Children's is Georgia's only freestanding pediatric health system, with three hospitals, more than 1.2 million patient visits a year and more than 1,200 specialists, and it has cared for children since 1915. The work is specific: the summer-2026 Physician Practice Operations intern was asked to shorten the time between a patient's discharge and the billing charge, and the Data Governance intern built a framework for an enterprise metric library.

When Do Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
Children's posts its summer roles on its own Workday board, and archived postings show when each wave started: 6 December 2022 for summer 2023, about 22 January 2024 for summer 2024, 20 December 2024 for summer 2025, and 13 November 2025 for summer 2026. That's a ten-week swing, so the summer-2027 projection is low-confidence: applications for summer 2027 are expected from mid-November to late December 2026, with late adds into March. Postings go up about six months before the internship starts. Two tracks run earlier: the Investment Office posted its summer-2026 intern on 18 September 2025, and part-time spring interns posted from 22 September to 27 October 2025. Neither had been posted for 2027 by 3 October 2026.
No summer-2027 intern posting is live on Children's board. The winter Nurse Extern cohort is accepting nursing students now. Use this month to pick two or three departments and tailor a resume to each.
Spring 2027 part-time interns expected (last cycle posted 22 September to 27 October), and the Investment Office's summer-2027 intern could post any day. Join the Talent Community so alerts reach you.
Nonclinical intern postings for summer 2027 expected to start. Last cycle's first six went up 13–21 November. Apply in the first week a role appears: postings print no deadline and come down when filled.
More department roles post for summer 2027. The summer-2027 Nurse Extern cohort is expected in December or January, and Child Life applications for fall 2027 run 12 February to 12 March 2027 (or until 75 complete applications).
Internships run on site in metro Atlanta. The 2026 PR/Social Media intern ran 26 May to 31 July. Interns can apply for full-time roles when the program ends.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
Children's postings carry no closing date: each one comes down when that department fills it, so there's no single deadline to plan around. That makes it a short window: a role that posts in mid-November may already be filled by January. The swing in the start date makes it worse, because the first wave has opened anywhere from mid-November to late January in four cycles. So set an alert, check careers.choa.org weekly from early November, and keep a tailored resume ready for each department you want. A Reddit commenter's advice matches what the board shows: Children's posts jobs directly on its own site, so aggregators aren't a reliable early warning.
Which Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Internship Programs Should You Target?

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
Every nonclinical posting uses the same two education tracks, and you need to fit one:
• Non-clinical focus: a "College or graduate student" working toward a bachelor's or master's in journalism, communications, business, marketing, healthcare administration or a related field.
• Clinical focus: a college student "with at least two years in a health sciences related program" (pre-med, nursing, biomedical engineering, biology, chemistry or statistics), or an MPH or medical student.
• Experience: research-type postings ask for "research experience" through a previous internship, work or coursework.
• Location: on site in metro Atlanta, and postings ask for reliable transportation where the role travels.
• GPA and visas: neither is stated in the postings we read.
• Nurse externs: enrolled in an accredited nursing school, with one semester and one clinical rotation done; the live posting prefers graduation in December 2027 or later.

Clinical or Non-Clinical Focus: Which One Are You?
Check the education block on each posting, because it decides whether you qualify at all. A business or communications student fits the non-clinical track for planning, marketing, HR or investment roles. A biology or nursing student needs two full years in the program before a clinical-focus role is open to them, and the posting adds that medical terminology and basic statistical software are "useful." Graduate students fit either track if their degree matches. The Magnet Nursing Intern is a trap for nursing students: despite the name, it's a communications role writing social media content for the nursing team.
What Skills Does Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
All Children's intern postings share a template that lists project management, event planning, database management, research and analysis, so we counted only the department-specific parts of 12 summer-2026 postings. Data analysis and reporting lead (seven of twelve), from interpreting clinical data in Strategic Planning to building performance reports in Marketing. Writing and content creation come next, in six, then project coordination and working with stakeholders, in five each. Investment and data roles add specialist asks: Bloomberg or eVestment "a plus," and "SQL and/or Python preferred."

How Is Demand for Healthcare Interns Moving Right Now?
Healthcare administration intern postings · Sep vs Aug 2026
vs 8 in August
Hospital systems like Children's post their summer interns later than retailers, mostly from November, so an empty board in October is normal, not a sign the program was cut.
Daily US job-posting counts, Sep 1–30 vs Aug 1–31, 2026. Covers under half of US postings; shows direction, not market size.
Build These Skills Before You Apply
Each skill maps to a remote Externship you can finish before the November postings.
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| Data analysis & reporting | Strategic Planning: "Interpreting clinical data to identify key trends in patient populations" | Arceh Children's Environmental Health Analytics |
| Process improvement | Physician Practice Operations: projects to improve patient flow and room turnover in a clinic | Healthcare Operations Consulting |
| Social media & content | PR/Social Media: "Brainstorm and create compelling content for Children's external audiences" | TikTok Social Media Content & Brand Strategy |
| Investment research | Investment Office: "investment research, manager due diligence, and data management" | Yinan Zhao Investing & Financial Modeling |
| Health data & dashboards | Data Governance: assessing a Qlik, Power BI and Epic dashboard inventory | TruBridge Healthcare Data Analytics |
Pick the row that matches the department you're targeting; one finished project tailored to that team beats a general resume sent to five postings.
What Is the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Application and Interview Process Like?
Children's doesn't publish an interview format for its summer interns. This is what the postings and program pages confirm:
1. Find the department posting on careers.choa.org. Each internship is a separate requisition owned by one team, so read its description before you apply.
2. Apply through Workday. External applicants apply on the posting; current employees use the internal Career App instead.
3. Recruiter review. A recruiter screens applications and contacts candidates for interviews with the department.
4. Nurse externs complete digital video screening questions first, and a recruiter reaches out if you move forward. Children's notes that, with limited positions, not everyone who records a video interview advances.
5. Offer and start. Summer roles start in late May or June; the 2026 PR/Social Media intern began on 26 May.
Department interviews usually lean behavioral. Our STAR method guide covers how to structure those answers.
What Students on Reddit Say
Reddit has little first-hand talk about Children's corporate internships, but three threads cover where to look and how the clinical tracks work.
A commenter in a thread about Atlanta hospitals notes that Children's posts its openings directly on its own job site, so that's where to watch instead of the big job boards.
A nursing student who applied to Children's Nurse Extern Program finished the digital video interview and asked how long a reply usually takes, which confirms the video screen comes before any recruiter call.
In a list of child life internships that take students without a university affiliation, Children's Atlanta appears among the sites that accept unaffiliated applicants.
How Do You Stand Out for a Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Internship?
Three moves, all doable before the November wave.
Apply to a team, not a program. Each posting belongs to one department with a specific project: Workday help articles for HR, a metric library for Data Governance, patient-flow fixes for Physician Practice Operations. Write a cover note that names that project and shows you've done something like it.
Bring data you can explain. Seven of the twelve postings we read ask for data analysis or reporting, and Strategic Planning wants someone who can "tell a story using various sets of data." A short deck from a past project, with one clear chart and one recommendation, is the best proof.
Show the mission matters to you. Every posting ends with "People first. Children always." Volunteer work with kids, a pediatric research class or a family connection to pediatric care gives you a real answer to "why Children's." The class size isn't published, so treat each department as competitive.

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2026 Children's Healthcare of Atlanta internship?
No. The summer-2026 postings have all closed, and no summer-2027 intern role was live on 3 October 2026. Nursing students can apply now to the winter Nurse Extern cohort. Everyone else should watch careers.choa.org from early November, when summer-2027 postings are expected to start.
When do Children's Healthcare of Atlanta summer 2027 internships open?
They're expected from mid-November to late December 2026, with more roles through March 2027. The first wave opened on 13 November 2025 last cycle, 20 December 2024 the cycle before, and late January in 2024, so the date isn't stable. Set a Talent Community alert.
Is the Nurse Extern Program an internship?
No. It's paid, year-round part-time or PRN employment for nursing students, with the same duties as a patient care technician. There are two cohorts a year: the winter cohort is open now, and the summer cohort is expected to post in December or January.
Are Children's Healthcare of Atlanta internships paid?
Children's doesn't publish intern pay on its postings, which list interns as temporary or seasonal workers. The Nurse Extern Program is described as a paid employment opportunity, though the rate isn't published either. Ask the recruiter about pay at the interview stage rather than relying on third-party estimates.
Who can apply to the nonclinical internships?
College and graduate students in business, communications, marketing, journalism or healthcare administration fit the non-clinical track. The clinical track needs two years in a health-sciences program such as pre-med, nursing or biology, or enrollment in an MPH or medical program. Roles are on site in metro Atlanta.
Does Children's Healthcare of Atlanta have a research internship?
Not a standalone summer research program. Some department postings involve research, such as Research Finance in 2026. The structured pediatric research internship in Atlanta, PRIDE, is run by Emory for Emory undergraduates and is unpaid, so don't confuse it with a Children's internship.
When is the Children's Child Life Internship deadline?
Applications for fall 2027 open on 12 February 2027 and close on 12 March 2027 at 11:59pm EST, or once 75 complete applications arrive, whichever comes first. There's no summer 2027 child life session. The internship runs 16 weeks and 640 hours.
Do Children's interns get hired full-time?
Children's says interns "may explore career paths and apply for full-time positions upon successful completion of the program," but it doesn't publish a conversion rate or class size. Treat the internship as a strong inside track, not a guaranteed offer, and ask your manager about openings before the summer ends.
Children's summer-2027 postings are expected from mid-November and fill department by department. A remote Externship finished before then gives your application a real project to point to.
