Bloom Energy's summer 2027 internship posting has been open since 28 August 2026, but it isn't a job you can land on its own. The "2027 Summer Internship" req on Bloom's Workday board is a talent pool: Bloom says students "can be sourced from it but should apply to specific roles as they are posted", and that individual internships "will be posted starting in fall 2026 through spring 2027." On 3 October 2026 the pool was still the only intern req on the board.

In plain words: you apply during 2026 and early 2027, and you intern in summer 2027. The pool req publishes $36 to $39 an hour for 10 to 12 week internships, fully on site in San Jose or Fremont, California, or Newark, Delaware. Bloom makes solid oxide fuel cells for data centers, hospitals and utilities, and reported record 2025 revenue of about $2.02 billion.

Bloom hires interns role by role, so a finished project in the function you want carries more weight than a general resume. Externships are short, remote programs where you complete a real project for a real company, most commonly over 8 weeks. What Is a Bloom Energy Internship?

A Bloom Energy internship is a paid 10 to 12 week summer placement at the NYSE-listed maker of solid oxide fuel cells and electrolyzers, headquartered in San Jose, California. Bloom says it has deployed more than 30,000 fuel cell modules, and its growth now comes largely from on-site power for AI data centers: it reported its first billion-dollar quarter in Q2 2026. There's no branded program or cohort: each intern is hired by one team, such as Engineering, Quality and Reliability, Service, Supply Chain or Finance, and works on site with it. Bloom Energy isn't related to Bloomberg, the financial data company.

When Do Bloom Energy Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?

Bloom runs one summer intake but hires for it over many months. Last cycle, summer 2026 role listings appeared from fall 2025, when one Engineering Intern listing said applications in by 24 October 2025 would get a first-round review, through April 2026, when a Failure Analysis Engineering intern req was posted. Most summer 2026 listings gave a start date of 8 June 2026. For this cycle Bloom posted its 2027 talent pool on 28 August 2026 and says role-specific internships for summer 2027 will post from fall 2026 through spring 2027. On 3 October 2026, none had posted yet. That's a lead time of about two to eight months, depending on when your role posts.

The 2027 talent pool is open and is the only intern req on Bloom's board. Apply to it now so recruiters can source you, then watch for role-specific internships, which Bloom says start posting this fall.

Expected first wave of role-specific internships for summer 2027. Last cycle, an engineering listing reviewed applications received by late October in its first round. Apply the week a role in your field appears.

January to April 2027EXPECTED

Expected second wave. Last cycle, data science, failure analysis, electrical engineering and product roles posted between February and April, and one software intern reported an offer in mid-February. Interviews include a short technical round for software roles.

Spring 2027

Offers continue as roles fill. Some Newark plant roles last cycle started as soon as possible rather than in June, so read the start date on each req.

Summer 2027

A 10 to 12 week internship, fully on site in San Jose, Fremont or Newark. Bloom doesn't publish a return-offer rate.

How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.

Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open

Bloom's process is rolling, and it rewards early applicants in two ways. The talent pool has no closing date, but it's how recruiters find candidates before a role is even posted, so being in it early costs nothing. Each role-specific internship is a single req for one team, and it's reviewed as applications arrive. Last cycle one engineering listing set a first-round review for applications in by 24 October 2025, and later applicants were reviewed only "as necessary."

Because roles post over six months, the real risk is missing yours. Check the board at least monthly from now to April 2027, and apply within days of a matching role appearing.

Which Bloom Energy Internship Programs Should You Target?

Bloom doesn't run named tracks. These are the summer 2026 roles we found, which show the kinds of internships to expect for summer 2027.

Start with the 2027 Summer Internship talent pool on Workday, then apply to specific roles as they post.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

The 2027 pool req sets the baseline, and each role req adds its own degree and skill lines:

• Graduation window: "students must be graduating between spring 2027 and summer 2028."

• Degree level: bachelor's, master's, MBA and PhD students; some roles last cycle wanted a master's student (ML/Data Science, Structural Analysis) or an MBA (Commercial Operations).

• Majors: mechanical, chemical, civil, industrial and electrical engineering; computer science and computer engineering; data science; business, finance and accounting; marketing and communications.

• Work authorization: the 2027 pool req doesn't mention it, but all ten summer 2026 role listings we read said Bloom can't provide visa sponsorship for the internship.

• On site: every internship is "fully on-site" at the office named in the req.

Can Freshmen and Sophomores Apply?

Sometimes. The graduation window, spring 2027 to summer 2028, mostly covers juniors, seniors and graduate students, so a freshman won't qualify for summer 2027. A sophomore graduating in spring 2028 may, if they're on an accelerated track or a five-year plan that ends then. One sophomore did report a Bloom software internship offer in April 2026, at $36 an hour plus a $2,000 sign-on, so read the window on each role req before you rule yourself out.

What Skills Does Bloom Energy Look For, and How Do You Build Them?

Bloom's role listings are written team by team, but a few demands repeat across the ten summer 2026 roles we read:

• Communication: eight of ten ask for strong communication, often with technicians as well as engineers.

• Hands-on technical work: testing hardware, failure analysis, CAD in SolidWorks or AutoCAD, and simulation in ABAQUS or Hypermesh, depending on the team.

• Code and data: Python appears in four, alongside SQL and NoSQL databases, and three mention AI, machine learning or automation.

Software candidates should also expect a short technical interview with coding.

What Is the Bloom Energy Application and Interview Process Like?

Bloom doesn't publish its process. This is what its reqs and student reports show:

1. Join the talent pool. Apply to the "2027 Summer Internship - Bloom Energy" req on Workday so recruiters can source you.

2. Apply to specific roles. Watch the board from fall 2026 to spring 2027 and apply to each role-specific internship that fits; Bloom says students "should apply to specific roles as they are posted."

3. Technical interview. Students report a 30-minute technical interview with the senior engineer they'd report to, and a 45-minute interview with a coding portion for a full-stack role.

4. Final round and offer. One software intern reported an offer in mid-February 2026; another, a sophomore, in April 2026.

Non-software roles get less discussion online, so for those, expect questions on the specific hands-on work listed in the req, such as test equipment, CAD or process improvement.

What Students on Reddit Say

Bloom Energy internships come up mostly in computer science subreddits, where students post offers and interview formats.

A student posted a Bloom software engineering intern offer of $46 an hour with $10,000 in relocation support for the Bay Area, and other applicants in the thread said their process was a 30-minute technical interview with the senior engineer they'd report to.

How Do You Stand Out for a Bloom Energy Internship?

Three moves that fit how Bloom hires.

First, apply twice. Join the 2027 talent pool now, then apply to the specific role when it posts. The pool alone won't get you an offer, and the role req alone means recruiters may not have seen you yet.

Second, match the team's hands-on work. Bloom's role listings name concrete tasks: building test fixtures, root-cause analysis on failed components, SolidWorks drawings, time studies on the factory floor, security alerts. Show you've done something like it, in a class, a lab or a project.

Third, know why Bloom is growing. Most of Bloom's recent growth comes from on-site fuel cell power for AI data centers. Being able to explain that, and how your team fits into it, sets you apart from applicants who think of Bloom as a generic clean-energy company.

Bloom doesn't publish an intern conversion rate.

FAQ

Can I still apply for a summer 2026 Bloom Energy internship?

No. Summer 2026 is over, and those role reqs have closed on Bloom's Workday board. What's open now is the 2027 Summer Internship talent pool, posted on 28 August 2026, and Bloom says role-specific summer 2027 internships will post from fall 2026 through spring 2027. Apply to the pool now and watch for your role.

When do Bloom Energy summer 2027 internships open?

The talent pool opened on 28 August 2026. Role-specific internships for summer 2027 haven't posted yet as of 3 October 2026, but Bloom says they'll post starting in fall 2026 through spring 2027. Last cycle, listings appeared from fall 2025 through April 2026, so check the board at least monthly.

What is the Bloom Energy 2027 Summer Internship req?

It's a talent pool rather than a single job. Bloom says students can apply to it and be sourced from it, but should also apply to specific roles as they post. Use it to get on recruiters' radar early, then apply again to the team you want, because offers come from role-specific reqs.

How much do Bloom Energy interns make?

The 2027 pool req lists $36 to $39 an hour. Last cycle's San Jose role listings ranged from $36 to $50 an hour, and Newark plant roles paid about $32 to $34. One software intern reported $46 an hour plus $10,000 relocation in February 2026, a single community report rather than Bloom's rate.

Who is eligible for a Bloom Energy internship?

Students graduating between spring 2027 and summer 2028, in bachelor's, master's, MBA or PhD programs, mostly in engineering, computer science, data science, business, finance or marketing. Each role req adds its own degree requirements, and some last cycle were open only to master's or MBA students. All internships are fully on site.

Does Bloom Energy sponsor visas for interns?

Probably not. The 2027 pool req doesn't address it, but all ten summer 2026 role listings we read said Bloom can't provide visa sponsorship for the internship. If you'd need sponsorship, check the qualifications on each summer 2027 role req when it posts, and ask the recruiter before you invest time.

What is the Bloom Energy intern interview like?

For software roles, students describe a 30-minute technical interview with the senior engineer they'd report to, and a 45-minute interview that includes coding for a full-stack role. Bloom doesn't publish its process. For engineering and plant roles, prepare to discuss the hands-on tasks listed in the req.

Is Bloom Energy the same company as Bloomberg?

No. Bloom Energy is a San Jose fuel cell manufacturer that powers data centers, hospitals and utilities. Bloomberg is a New York financial data and media company with its own separate internship program. Search "Bloom Energy" in full on job boards, or you'll mostly see Bloomberg roles.

Bloom's 2027 talent pool is open now, and role-specific internships post from this fall through spring 2027. While you watch for your role, a remote Externship gives you a finished project to point to when it opens.
