Last updated: September 2026
Avnet (Nasdaq: AVT) posted record revenue of $27.6 billion in fiscal 2026, up 24.5%, which makes it the world's second-largest electronics distributor and Fortune 500 #117. Its 12-week Summer Internship Program is tiny by comparison: 42 interns from 20 universities in 2026, most of them hybrid at the Phoenix headquarters. Published pay for the supply chain roles was $19 an hour in 2025 and $20 in 2026.
So when does the summer 2027 class get chosen? Earlier than you'd think. The 2026 program wrapped in August, and based on prior cycles the summer 2027 postings are expected on Workday between September and November 2026, reviewed on a rolling basis. You apply this fall, you intern from mid-May 2027.

Summer 2027 postings are expected September to November 2026 on Avnet's Workday portal, with rolling review; they weren't live as of late August. The program is 12 weeks (May 18 to August 7 in 2026), hybrid in Phoenix, and small (42 interns in 2026). A 3.0 GPA must appear on your resume, and Avnet can't sponsor visas.
Avnet's supply chain JDs ask you to "support supply chain planning operations and optimize parameters to improve supply chain efficiency," and both list analytics as the core requirement. That's the skill set the Amazon Fulfillment Center Operational Strategy & People Analytics Externship is built around, and the Breaking Games E-Commerce Data Analysis & Strategy Externship adds the Excel-and-recommendation deliverable a Phoenix hiring manager can actually read. Both are short remote Externships you can finish while your rolling application is in review. Explore all Externships.
What Is an Avnet Internship?
Avnet's Summer Internship Program is a 12-week, full-time, hybrid program at the Phoenix headquarters that puts students on hands-on projects inside collaborative teams. The careers page lists supply chain, analytics, engineering, GIS, finance, marketing and IT as fields, and the 2026 cohort of 42 interns from 20 universities "contributed across Avnet." Interns get mentorship, soft-skills training, performance feedback, networking events, team-building activities and executive exposure, plus an hourly wage with holiday pay. Vault ranked the program #8 for overall inclusion in 2026.
And the business is more interesting than "distributor" suggests. Founded in 1921, Avnet has been Intel's first distributor since 1973 and sits between semiconductor makers like Intel, TI and NXP and the engineers who design products around their chips. Electronic components are 93.6% of revenue; the Farnell, Newark and element14 brands serve design engineers directly.

When Do Avnet Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?
Avnet runs a single summer intake on a fall-posting calendar. Summer 2025 ran May 19 to August 8; summer 2026 ran May 18 to August 7, and each year's postings appeared months before the start. That puts the summer 2027 postings in the September-to-November 2026 window, reviewed on a rolling basis.
But rolling with a 42-seat cohort is closer to a sprint than a stroll. The candidates who set a Workday alert in September and apply within two weeks of a posting are the ones still in the running by January.
The 2026 program has just ended (Avnet's August post: "Our 2026 Summer Internship Program has come to a close"). Summer 2027 postings weren't live as of late August but are expected any week now. Join Avnet's talent community, set a Workday alert for "intern," and make sure your GPA is on your resume; the JDs require it.
Summer 2027 intern postings expected on Workday (avnet.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com). Prior supply chain roles were posted months before their May start. Apply within the first two to four weeks of each posting; rolling review means early applicants get first consideration for a small cohort.
Rolling review and interviews. Avnet's careers FAQ describes competencies-based interviewing built around its core values (teamwork, inclusiveness, integrity, customer service, innovation). Glassdoor reports show a phone screen, a personality or skills test, and a one-on-one interview; recruiter response times run two to six weeks. Late-cycle roles may still accept applications into February.
Final offers and background checks (expected). Confirm your Phoenix housing and transportation; the JDs state that candidates arrange their own.
The 12-week program, full-time 8am to 5pm, hybrid in Phoenix: team projects, mentorship, soft-skills training, feedback sessions, networking and executive exposure.
How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.
Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open
Avnet publishes no deadline, and its Workday postings stay open until filled. That sounds forgiving. It isn't, for two reasons.
First, the cohort is small: 42 interns in 2026 from a company with 15,000 employees and $27.6 billion in revenue. Second, review is rolling, so a supply chain requisition that opens in late September may have its interviews scheduled before a November applicant is even screened. So set the alert now and submit within days, not weeks, of the posting appearing.
Which Avnet Internship Programs Should You Target?
Avnet doesn't publish a track list. These six come from official JDs, Vault's program profile, the careers page and community posts.
But only the first is documented in depth.
| Track | Focus | Duration & location | Key skills |
|---|---|---|---|
| Supply Chain / Operations | Supply chain planning, inventory and backlog management, parameter optimization (Supply Chain Solutions, Supply Chain Planning Analyst, Supplier Operations) | 12 wks Phoenix (hybrid); 6-month Guadalajara option | Excel, data analytics, supply chain fundamentals, SAP exposure a plus |
| Engineering | Application development and hardware/software engineering | 12 wks Phoenix; developer roles also in Guadalajara | Programming, problem-solving, electronics fundamentals |
| Analytics / Data (incl. GIS) | Data analysis, reporting, geographic information systems | 12 wks Phoenix | SQL, Excel, data visualization |
| Marketing | Product and supplier marketing for a B2B components business | 12 wks Phoenix | Communication, content, supplier relationships |
| Finance | Financial planning and analysis | 12 wks Phoenix | Excel, financial analysis, reporting |
| IT / Cybersecurity | IT support and information security | 12 wks Phoenix | Systems, security fundamentals, troubleshooting |
The supply chain roles are the ones with published JDs and pay ($19–$20/hr); the rest are confirmed as fields but not documented in the same detail. Search "intern" on the Avnet Workday portal once postings open.
What Are the Eligibility Requirements?
The requirements below come verbatim from the two US supply chain intern JDs (summer 2025 and 2026).
And they apply across tracks unless a posting says otherwise.
• Enrollment: currently pursuing an undergraduate degree, preferably completing junior year by May of the internship year
• Majors: data analytics, industrial engineering, operations research or supply chain management for the supply chain roles; business, engineering, IT, marketing, finance and analytics across other tracks
• GPA: 3.0 minimum, and it must appear on your resume
• Work authorization: "Must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S."; Avnet cannot sponsor a visa
• Tools: proficiency in Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Soft skills: proven leadership, self-directed, excellent communication, collaboration, openness to new experiences
• Logistics: interns arrange their own housing and transportation to the Phoenix area

Can International Students Get an Avnet Internship?
Mostly no. The JDs say applicants must be authorized to work for any US employer and that Avnet can't sponsor visas, which rules out anyone who'd need an H-1B or similar later. F-1 students on CPT that requires no employer sponsorship may technically clear the bar, but the "any employer" wording is stricter than most Fortune 500 programs.
So if you're on a student visa, email Avnet recruiting before you invest time in the application, and have a backup plan among peers with looser policies.
What Skills Does Avnet Look For, and How Do You Build Them?
What do the JDs actually ask for? We read three Avnet intern JDs in full: the summer 2025 Supply Chain Planning Analyst, the summer 2026 Supply Chain Solutions Intern, and the Guadalajara Supplier Operations Intern. The soft-skill list is identical across all three: proven leadership, self-direction, excellent communication, collaboration and openness to new experiences. The two US roles both require the Microsoft Office suite and analytical ability.
But the technical bar is lower on paper than in practice. No JD names SAP, SQL or Power BI, yet Avnet runs SAP across 100-plus countries, and the planning analyst role wants a data analytics or industrial engineering major. Bring those tools anyway.

Build These Skills Before You Apply
And the analytical half of that chart maps to remote Externships. Extern has no electronics distribution Externship, so these build the operations, analytics and strategy evidence Avnet's JDs reward rather than component-market knowledge itself.
| Skill (from real JDs) | JD evidence | Externship that builds it |
|---|---|---|
| Supply chain operations & process optimization | Supply Chain Solutions JD: "support supply chain planning operations and optimize parameters to improve supply chain efficiency" | Amazon Fulfillment Center Operational Strategy & People Analytics |
| Data analysis & Excel-based recommendations | Supply Chain Planning Analyst JD: strong analytical capabilities, data analytics major preferred | Breaking Games E-Commerce Data Analysis & Strategy |
| Strategic thinking & business acumen | Program description: interns "connect with leadership" and gain cross-functional exposure at the world's #2 electronics distributor | Corporate Strategy Externship Mentored by Eric Ries |
Each Externship runs 4–11 weeks (most commonly 8), short enough to finish while a rolling Avnet application is under review. Avnet isn't an Extern partner; what you're building is a project to describe when the competencies interview asks for "a time you led a team focused on improving a specific process."

What Is the Avnet Application and Interview Process Like?
Avnet's careers FAQ says it uses competencies-based interviewing to reduce unconscious bias, which in practice means behavioral questions tied to its five core values.
So prepare examples, not trivia.
1. Open the Workday portal (avnet.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com) or the Internships & Early Grads page and search "intern."
2. Read the JD for the two hard filters: a 3.0 GPA on your resume and unrestricted US work authorization.
3. Create a Workday profile, upload your resume with GPA visible, and answer the screening questions on authorization and availability dates.
4. Wait for rolling review. Recruiter response times run roughly two to six weeks.
5. Interview: Glassdoor reports describe a phone screen, a personality or skills test, then a one-on-one interview covering background, motivation and questions like "How do you see yourself in five years?" and "Give an example of a time you led a team to improve a process."
6. Offer and background check, with final offers expected by spring for a mid-May start.
Glassdoor lists nine intern-specific interview reports for Avnet, so the sample is small. One Reddit posting mentioned a HireVue step for a sales role; nothing confirms it for interns.
So map your stories to teamwork, inclusiveness, integrity, customer service and innovation, the values on Avnet's core values page.
What Students on Reddit Say
Avnet is a B2B distributor, so Reddit coverage is thin: a few job-posting shares and pay benchmarks rather than internship diaries. Is that a red flag? No, it's what a components wholesaler looks like online.
And the threads that exist are still useful for calibrating pay and confirming which tracks are real.
In a Phoenix thread about software engineering internships, Avnet came up twice: once at a much lower historical rate, and later with a commenter saying the company now pays its software interns around $30 an hour, which is well above the $19 to $20 published for supply chain roles.
A shared posting for a six-month Product and Supplier Marketing Intern role confirmed marketing as a real Avnet intern track. Commenters noted the LinkedIn listing appeared as unpaid, which conflicts with Avnet's official page describing paid internships, so confirm pay on the actual Workday posting.
A student in a Spanish-language developer community asked about pay and day-to-day experience for Avnet's Application Developer internship, which points to active hiring for developer interns at the Guadalajara site alongside the Phoenix summer program.
How Do You Stand Out at Avnet?
First, learn the electronics distribution value chain. Avnet isn't a generic logistics company; it's the intermediary between chipmakers (Intel, TI, NXP) and the OEMs and design engineers who build around their parts. If you can explain the difference between broadline distribution (Avnet Electronic Components) and high-service design distribution (Farnell, Newark, element14), or talk about semiconductor cycle swings and what they do to inventory, you'll sound nothing like the candidate who treats this as "a supply chain job."
Second, show SAP and data skills, not just "MS Office." Why? Both supply chain JDs lean on Excel and analytics, and Avnet's backbone is SAP. Coursework-level SAP, SQL for analysis, or a Power BI or Tableau dashboard built on public supply chain data gives the recruiter something concrete.
And third, apply within two weeks of the posting. Forty-two seats in 2026, rolling review, no deadline: the difference between week one and week eight can be the difference between an interview and a closed requisition. Set the Workday alert today.

What Other Companies Should You Consider?
Which other distributors and channel companies belong on the same list? Avnet's true peers are the other electronics distributors, none of which have a published guide yet.
But the broader channel has several with guides, and they recruit the same supply chain and analytics majors.

FAQ
Can I still apply for a summer 2026 Avnet internship?
No. The summer 2026 program ran May 18 to August 7, 2026 and Avnet announced its close in August. The next intake is summer 2027, with postings expected on Workday between September and November 2026 and rolling review after that. Set a job alert now so you see the first requisitions.
When should I apply for an Avnet summer 2027 internship?
As soon as postings appear, likely September through November 2026. Avnet reviews applications on a rolling basis, and the 2026 cohort was only 42 interns from a $27.6 billion company, so early submission matters. Apply within the first two weeks of a posting and expect recruiter contact in two to six weeks.
How much do Avnet interns get paid?
Supply chain interns earned $19 an hour in 2025 and $20 in 2026 per the official JDs, plus holiday pay, at full-time hours. Indeed's company-specific data shows about $17 to $18 for marketing and general interns, Glassdoor about $23 for hourly interns, and one Reddit comment put software interns near $30.
What GPA does Avnet require for interns?
A 3.0 cumulative GPA minimum, and it has to appear on your resume. Both the Supply Chain Planning Analyst and Supply Chain Solutions JDs state this explicitly. No higher threshold is documented for any track, so a 3.0 with leadership and analytics evidence is a real candidacy rather than a long shot.
Can international students intern at Avnet?
Usually not. The JDs require authorization to work for any US employer and state that Avnet cannot sponsor visas. Students on F-1 CPT that needs no employer sponsorship might technically qualify, but the wording is stricter than most Fortune 500 programs, so confirm with Avnet recruiting before applying.
How long is an Avnet internship and where is it?
Twelve weeks, full-time, hybrid at the Phoenix, Arizona headquarters, typically mid-May to early August (May 18 to August 7 in 2026). Interns arrange their own housing and transportation. Avnet also runs a six-month, 20-hour-a-week school-year internship in Guadalajara, Mexico for students at Mexican universities.
Does Avnet convert interns to full-time employees?
Avnet publishes no conversion rate. The program includes performance feedback and direct access to leadership, and an Indeed reviewer described Avnet as a great place to start a career with many roles to explore, which suggests internal mobility. But no figure exists, so treat a return offer as possible rather than probable.
What is the Avnet intern interview like?
Competencies-based, per Avnet's careers FAQ. Glassdoor reports describe a phone screen, a personality or skills test, and a one-on-one interview on your background and motivation, with questions like where you see yourself in five years and an example of leading a process improvement. Map your answers to Avnet's five core values.
Avnet's summer 2027 postings are expected within weeks, the review is rolling, and the cohort is 42 seats. Set the Workday alert today, then use the wait to finish a remote Externship that gives you an operations or analytics project to describe in a competencies interview. Explore all Externships.
