Ace Hardware is the world's largest retailer-owned hardware cooperative: 8,900+ stores in about 60 countries, 5,280+ in the US, and $10.0 billion in 2025 revenue, with Q1 2026 up 10.9% to a record $2.5 billion. Its corporate internship is a 12-week paid program at the Oak Brook, Illinois headquarters that ends with a Final Pitch to senior leadership and a Q&A with the CEO.

And the timing works in your favor right now. The summer 2026 Marketing internship closed applications on November 19, 2025, so applications for summer 2027 are expected to open this fall, roughly September to November 2026. You apply this fall, you intern in summer 2027.

Ace's summer 2027 internship applications are expected to open September to November 2026, with track-level deadlines around November (the 2026 Marketing track closed November 19, 2025). 12 weeks, 40 hours a week, mid-May to mid-August 2027, hybrid or on-site at Oak Brook. Supply chain interns earned $21 to $22 an hour in the 2026 cycle. No GPA minimum is published.

Ace's supply chain JDs ask for forecasting tools, purchase order management, and the fill-rate-versus-inventory-turns trade-off, and the Process track adds Manhattan WMS, SAP ERP, and PowerBI. While you wait for fall postings, build that evidence with the Amazon Fulfillment Center Operational Strategy & People Analytics Externship, which mirrors the warehouse and inventory work in Ace's Retail Support Centers, or the Wayfair AI Agent Engineering for Business Intelligence Externship for the AI-in-logistics angle Ace is actively hiring for. Both are short remote programs. Explore all Externships.

What Is an Ace Hardware Internship?

Ace's Summer Internship Program is a 12-week, paid, full-time placement inside a corporate department at the Oak Brook headquarters, a 250,000-square-foot campus that opened in September 2023 on the former McDonald's corporate site. Documented tracks from the 2026 cycle include Supply Chain Replenishment Planning, Supply Chain Process (branded as AI in Logistics), Marketing, E-Commerce Merchandising, and Buyer/Merchandising, and the corporate careers page names Finance, IT, and Operations as further areas. Interns get real project work, a resume workshop, volunteering, and a Final Pitch presentation to leadership with a CEO Q&A.

So what makes it different from a Home Depot or Lowe's internship? The cooperative model. Ace's corporate entity is a wholesaler serving 5,000+ independent store owners who are also its shareholders, and a supply chain intern here manages inventory for stores the company doesn't own. Ace has held J.D. Power's top ranking for customer satisfaction among home improvement retailers in 16 of 18 years.

When Do Ace Hardware Internship Applications Open for 2027–2028?

Ace isn't an ultra-early recruiter. Its 2026 Marketing internship closed applications on November 19, 2025 for a May 2026 start, and Glassdoor interview dates show January interviews for a summer cohort. That puts the lead time at six to eight months.

So the summer 2027 cycle runs through fall 2026 and early 2027, and it starts now.

Postings for summer 2027 are expected to start appearing this month or next on careers.acehardware.com. October–November 2026 (expected)EXPECTEDROLLING — APPLY WEEK 1

Postings go live and priority deadlines land. The 2026 Marketing track closed November 19, 2025, so treat mid-November 2026 as the working deadline for summer 2027. Apply through Workday the week your track appears.

November 2026–January 2027 (expected)

Phone screens with a Talent Acquisition Partner (30 minutes, including salary expectations), then a 30 to 45 minute video interview with the hiring manager. Some roles add an assignment; your recruiter tells you on the first call.

January–March 2027 (expected)

On-site interviews at Oak Brook for some candidates, then verbal and written offers via Workday, contingent on a background check and drug screen. Glassdoor puts the average intern hiring timeline at 19 days from application to offer.

Mid-May to mid-August 2027

The 12-week internship. 40 hours a week, hybrid or on-site, real projects in your department, and a Final Pitch presentation to senior leadership with a CEO Q&A at the end.

How to read this page: our dates come from tracking previous recruiting cycles and daily posting data. Treat them as informed estimates based on historical patterns, not confirmed dates. The company's official careers page is always the most current source. If a role is posted there, go by that, even if this page suggests the window hasn't opened yet.

Why You Must Apply the Week Applications Open

Ace doesn't publish one universal deadline. Some tracks carry a fixed date (Marketing closed November 19, 2025 last cycle), while the supply chain postings listed no close date at all. What fills the seats is campus recruiting: Glassdoor data shows 80% of intern hires came through it, and the average hiring timeline is 19 days.

So the practical rule is simple. Positions close as fall career fairs progress and hiring managers meet candidates, and a posting with no deadline can vanish once a team has its pick. Apply the week your track appears in October or November 2026, and show up at Ace's campus events if it visits your school.

Which Ace Hardware Internship Programs Should You Target?

Ace documents five intern tracks from the 2026 cycle in enough detail to plan around. Two have full JDs with pay; the rest come from listings and the corporate careers page.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

Who can apply? The published bar is class year and major rather than grades.

Class year: Supply Chain Replenishment Planning targets seniors; Supply Chain Process targets Class of 2027 or 2028 graduates in the 2026 cycle (expect Class of 2028 or 2029 for summer 2027)

Enrollment: Working toward a bachelor's degree

Majors: Supply Chain, Economics, Business Administration, Analytics, Finance, or related (supply chain tracks); Marketing or related (marketing track)

GPA: No minimum listed in any reviewed JD

Availability: 40 hours a week, Monday to Friday, for the full 12 weeks (mid-May to mid-August)

Work authorization and sponsorship: Not stated in postings; no mention of F-1 CPT/OPT support was found

Does Ace Hardware Have a GPA Cutoff for Interns?

No published one. The supply chain JDs list desired qualifications around skills (analytical mindset, communication, time management) and class year, and none of the reviewed postings mention a GPA threshold.

But absence of a number isn't the same as absence of a filter. The JDs explicitly ask for "knowledge and interest in Ace Hardware Corporation," and the interview process is behavior-based, so cultural fit and understanding of the cooperative model carry weight a GPA can't. If your transcript is average, your store visit and your grasp of the business are the levers.

What Skills Does Ace Hardware Look For, and How Do You Build Them?

Three summer 2026 JDs were inspected: the two supply chain postings and the Marketing listing. The soft skills (analytical mindset, communication, time management, presenting to managers and directors) appear in all three.

But the technical asks split by track: replenishment interns work with forecasting tools, purchase orders, and vendor portfolios, while Process interns touch Manhattan WMS, SAP ERP, PowerBI, and AI logic frameworks for inventory accuracy.

What Is the Ace Hardware Application and Interview Process Like?

So what does the process look like? Ace publishes it in unusual detail on its corporate careers page, and Glassdoor's intern reviewers (100% positive across 5 reviews, difficulty 2.4 out of 5) back it up.

1. Search openings at careers.acehardware.com/job-search and filter by Corporate. You can also text ACE to 30914 to reach Grace, Ace's recruiting assistant, for job search and scheduling.

2. Apply through Workday. Upload your resume and complete the application; you get an automatic email confirmation.

3. Phone screen (30 minutes) with a Talent Acquisition Partner: resume walkthrough, motivation, and salary expectations.

4. Video interview (30 to 45 minutes) with the hiring manager. Behavioral, STAR-format questions such as "Tell me about a time you failed" and "Why Ace Hardware?"

5. Assignment, if your role requires one. Ace says the recruiter explains it on the first call; 12% of Glassdoor intern interviewees reported a skills test.

6. On-site interview at 2915 Jorie Drive, Oak Brook, for some candidates: meet your prospective manager and tour the office. Business casual.

7. Offer and screening. Verbal offer, then a written offer via Workday, contingent on a background check and drug screen. HR coordinates your start date.

Ace describes its approach as behavior-based interviewing.

And its own interview tips recommend visiting a local Ace store and researching the cooperative model before you talk to anyone. Full details are on Ace's corporate careers page.

What the Community Says

Reddit has no threads about the Oak Brook corporate internship; r/acehardware is store employees and customers. Glassdoor's intern reviews are the better signal, so two cards below come from there, with one Reddit thread on how the brand reads on a resume.

A former intern titled their review "The Helpful Intern Experience" and described excellent work-life balance, simple directives, and managers who were easy to work with. They recommended Ace to anyone wanting to learn the industry.

Glassdoor intern review, paraphrased

A candidate who came through campus recruiting in January 2025 and got the offer called the process easygoing with a phenomenal HR team, and said you meet the actual team so they can check you're a fit. Another intern reviewer called the program well organized and the culture positive, rating compensation 5 out of 5.

A commenter advised a packaging student to drop the company description for Ace Hardware on their resume, because everyone already knows what Ace is, and to spend the space on what they did instead. Brand recognition works in an intern's favor later.

How Do You Stand Out at Ace Hardware?

First, learn the cooperative model inside out. Ace isn't a retailer that owns its stores; it's a wholesaler and distributor owned by the 5,000+ independent retailers it serves. That changes the supply chain problem completely (you're managing inventory for stores that stock differently and answer to local owners) and interviewers recognize a candidate who gets "we serve our retailers, and they serve their customers" within the first minute.

Second, bring stories for W.E.L.I.G.H.T. Ace's values acronym stands for Winning, Excellence, Love, Integrity, Gratitude, Humility, and Teamwork, and "Love" and "Gratitude" aren't words most Fortune-scale companies put in writing. The interview is behavior-based, so have a specific example ready for two or three of them rather than reciting the list.

And third, visit a store. Ace's own interview tips say to do it. Note what separates Ace from big-box competitors (the greeting at the door, the curated shelf, the local owner's name on the wall) and reference the visit when they ask "Why Ace?" Mentioning that Ace has topped J.D. Power's customer satisfaction ranking in 16 of 18 years tells them you understand why the model works.

FAQ

Can I still apply for a summer 2026 Ace Hardware internship?

No. The summer 2026 program ran mid-May to mid-August 2026 and has finished, and its Marketing track closed applications back on November 19, 2025. The next cycle is summer 2027. Applications are expected to open September to November 2026, so this fall is the window that matters.

When do Ace Hardware internship applications open for summer 2027?

September to November 2026, expected rather than confirmed. Ace hasn't published 2027 dates, but the 2026 Marketing internship closed on November 19, 2025 and Glassdoor shows January interviews for summer cohorts. Watch careers.acehardware.com and your campus career fair schedule this fall.

Is the Ace Hardware internship paid?

Yes. It's a 12-week, full-time, 40-hour-a-week paid program. The 2026 JDs listed $22 an hour for Supply Chain Replenishment Planning and $21 an hour for Supply Chain Process interns. Other tracks don't publish rates; Glassdoor's Oak Brook intern data annualizes to roughly $17 to $21 an hour.

Where are Ace Hardware internships located?

Mostly at the Oak Brook, Illinois headquarters, about 20 miles west of Chicago, in hybrid or on-site formats. Supply Chain Process interns may be based at a Retail Support Center in Visalia CA, Wilton NY, Loxley AL, or La Crosse WI, with travel to other warehouses and a trip to HQ.

What GPA do you need for an Ace Hardware internship?

None is published. The reviewed JDs list class year, major, and skills like analytical thinking and communication, but no GPA threshold. Ace weights fit with its W.E.L.I.G.H.T. values and genuine knowledge of the cooperative model, so a store visit and a clear "Why Ace?" matter more than a decimal point.

What is the Ace Hardware internship interview process like?

Three to four stages over about 19 days on average. A 30-minute phone screen with a Talent Acquisition Partner, a 30 to 45 minute video interview with the hiring manager, an optional assignment for some roles, and sometimes an on-site visit to Oak Brook. Questions are behavioral and STAR-format.

Do Ace Hardware interns get return offers?

Ace doesn't publish a conversion rate. The program is built as a pipeline: interns deliver a Final Pitch to leadership, meet the CEO in a Q&A, and the careers page quotes former interns who moved into full-time roles. New hires can enter the Future Leaders and LEAD development programs.

Is the Ace Hardware internship remote?

Not fully. Ace's careers page says the 12-week program offers hybrid and on-site opportunities at the Oak Brook corporate office, and the warehouse-based Supply Chain Process role is on site by nature. No fully remote internship track has been documented, and no housing stipend was found.

Ace's summer 2027 postings are expected within weeks, and the working deadline is mid-November 2026. That leaves enough time to finish a short remote Externship and walk into a behavioral interview with a real supply chain or marketing project to describe.

So start now, apply the week your track appears, and visit a store before the phone screen. Explore all Externships.
