Overview

The externship trained practical equity research skills through autonomous analysis of a public company. The work screened investment candidates and selected Tesla, extracted and annotated material from Tesla's 10-K, compiled a competitors/risks/catalysts spreadsheet with sentiment checks and analyst/insider data, and built a linked financial model with five-year histories and forecasts.

What I've accomplished

I selected Tesla after systematic screening, annotated its 10-K to capture demand and balance-sheet signals, compiled competitors, risks, catalysts, sentiment and trading data into a structured spreadsheet, and built a linked three-statement financial model with forecasts and ratios.

Project breakdown

During the module I screened options, compared candidates, and narrowed my list to Tesla. I explained my selection rationale, tracked its price trend, and completed a final quick check confirming Tesla met the checklist criteria.

The task required reading the company 10-K. I extracted and highlighted important sections in a submitted PDF, noting strong demand, growing assets, rising long-term debt, and no immediate negative flags.

I compiled a competitors list and qualitative analysis, ran earnings-call sentiment checks, listed downside risks and near-term catalysts, and reviewed insider trading and analyst ratings. The submission produced an organized spreadsheet containing these deliverables.
