Economic Risk Calculation using Machine Learning

Led the development of a machine learning algorithm to predict economic property and crop damage caused by U.S. tornadoes; conducted a literature review of prior machine learning applications in disaster economics, identified a gap in tornado-specific predictive modeling, designed and compared multiple predictive models, and addressed significant right-skew in damage distributions through data transformation and flexible non-parametric modeling approaches.

Collected academic performance and social demographic data on 60 students from marginalized social groups, modeled relationship between exposure to higher level mathematics and tracked their long-term performance in middle and high school, published the paper in an educational research journal under the guidance of Mr. Syam Chandra, Lead Editor, and presented the paper at prestigious mathematics conferences such as the Joint Mathematics Meeting and the Hawaii International Conference of Education.
