The externship built several n8n-based AI agents that generated visuals, scraped and analyzed market and competitor data, and produced content outputs. Work included setting up workflows, connecting image and data APIs, and merging multi-source data. Deliverables comprised reports, agent code snippets, a live dashboard, and a slide presentation.

What I've accomplished

I documented LLM internals (tokenization, Transformer attention, sequential generation, and pretraining plus fine-tuning with human feedback) and delivered runnable Colab notebooks that performed data cleaning, JSON flattening, image preprocessing for OCR readiness, plus a runnable extraction notebook that pulled dates, vendor, lot, and part fields from SDF PDFs.

Project breakdown

I summarized how LLMs tokenized text, used Transformer attention to capture context, and generated tokens sequentially. I described pretraining on large corpora and subsequent fine-tuning with human feedback to improve instruction-following and safety.

The project cleaned and standardized structured data with Pandas, flattened nested JSON into a DataFrame, applied text-cleaning steps, and tested image preprocessing (denoising, CLAHE, Otsu) to improve OCR readiness; outputs were shared as Colab notebooks and a processed image.

The project processed multi-page SDF PDFs, used PyMuPDF to extract text and bounding boxes, applied regex and anchor-phrase heuristics to pull fields (dates, vendor, lot, part), and produced a runnable Colab notebook with the extraction code.

Iowa Alcohol Sales Forecasting

Built a PySpark pipeline on AWS S3 to ingest, clean, and transform Iowa liquor sales data (20122022, millions of records). Developed time-series forecasting models evaluated with MAE, SMAPE, and ANOVA, and created a Tableau dashboard comparing predicted and actual sales by time, geography, and product category.

CALM: Emotion-Aware Mental Health Chatbot

Built the emotion pipeline on RASA: tokenized emotion keywords with NLTK, computed valence-arousal-dominance (VAD) scores, and used emotion detection fine-tuned on EmoBank (10,000+ annotated sentences). Selected responses using VAD scores and dialogue history stored in RASA's tracker, allowing replies to adapt to the user's emotional state across turns and sessions. Implemented a ten-question mental status screening, custom policies for severe cases, and fallback handling for unexpected inputs. Conducted a needfinding survey, deployed the bot on a Wix site, and ran a one-week study with 11 users; 9 (81%) reported that it helped them achieve their goals.
